Whoever said they couldn't print the asda voucher (sorry in so forgetful atm!) I can't print it either.
It downloads a coupon printer program but then doesn't get any further than that, really annoying because I want the free stuff!

TheDetective · 15/08/2012 18:34

I'm a fussy eater, but still eat an awful lot, and a varied range of stuff.

I just don't eat the majority of meat (chicken and bacon only) no fish at all (I was vegetarian from age 9 and started trying bits of chicken when I was 24). I don't eat sandwiches (don't like butter, or sauces, and the vast majority of butties have these things on!) unless I've made it, and only like plain boiled egg with salad tbh. No cereal at all because milk + cereal = unedible mush to me! Don't like tea/coffee or alcohol either!

But my favourite foods are mushrooms and tomatoes! I love veg and salad!

DS is slightly fussy, nowhere near my level though! He won't eat fish, doesn't really like peppers/onions, but he will eat things with them in unless he can pick them out, then he will do that instead. He will devour my veggie chilli which is packed with onion and pepper!

I've always operated on cooking the same meal for us all. I know what DS prefers, and 2/3 meals a week will be DS's favourites, and the other nights will be mine or DP's favourites. So we all get a turn at what we love. DP and I have similar tastes though. Except he likes meat Grin

It seems to have worked well, as things that DS used to whinge about being served just get eaten now, and he even likes most of it! I think it's true about them needing to try things over and over!

Just got myself a few Next baby clothing bargains on eBay yay! Got 3 babygrows for £1.50! And a dungaree set with stars on for £2. I'm currently keeping my eye out for a swing!

Spent all day looking at finances and going round in ever decreasing circles. Come to the conclusion that there is something very wrong with this country as I would be heaps better off not working, and if DH didn't work then the pair of us would get everything handed on a plate. We both work bloody hard, between us earn enough to live comfortably, yet when I have to stop working to have this baby things will be tighter than when I was a student (and that was tight!) He seems to think we can cope fine - no matter which way I try (and that includes cutting back on EVERYTHING) I just cannot get the sums to add up. Feck feck feck. Maybe presenting him with my 20 odd pages of spreadsheets calculating our finances in every which way will be enough to convince him we need to get rid of one of the cars. And he will need to work freelance in one of his weeks off (he gets 2 weeks leave every month as he works crazy offshore hours the rest). And no doubt I'm going to have to go back to work ASAP - again assuming I get more clients as my current 'big client' have just quartered how much they need me due to their own money problems. Ahh I just want to cry :-(

MissMummy1 · 15/08/2012 19:06

Sorry for offloading. Just having a wobble today - blame the weather!

Re fussy eaters, as a child I was ridiculously fussy and my parents completely pandered to it. I went through a period in my teens of having severe eating disorders but don't know if the 2 things were related.

When I met my partner at 18 I was severly underweight and dry toast was about the only thing I ate. He worked on the basis that he would cook for himself and if I was hungry I could try/eat it. Sounds ridiculous now that he basically treated me as if I was a young child but it was probably one of the best things anyone ever did for me! I've not starved myself for years and eat just about everything. Pre pregnancy I even had a healthy BMI of 21! Only wish my mum and dad had taken the same tact with me when I was younger instead of initially only giving me what I wanted to eat and then forcing me to eat when I was ill. I'm a bit of an extreme case obviously, but if I produce another fuss pot I'm definitely going to go with the 'try it, eat it or go hungry' policy.

TheDetective · 15/08/2012 19:07

We are better off with DP working part time MissMummy as he only just earns above min. wage, and is only contracted to 19.5 hours. If we paid for FT childcare, we'd be worse off. Plus the fact we'd be paying on the chance he got overtime, and while he does, its not guaranteed, and for 3 months earlier this year, he was getting no overtime at all (fanfuckingtastic when you are pregnant and need to buy/save for mat. leave!). At the minute he gets between 30-36 hours a week.

I wish he had a slightly better paying FT job, and I wish I could drop a day at work. But sadly, to pay the bills, me working FT and him working his contracted days is the best cheapest option. You have to do what you have to do. We would be scared of him moving jobs in this climate. He works for a supermarket, and has been there 4 years. He'd be mad to go elsewhere right now, when jobs are hard to come by. He has a pretty secure job, as do I. Not rocking the boat seems the better option.

Planning on him working one extra day a week on one of my days off where possible, but that seems crazy as he will get about £35 extra for it. Where as if I did one extra shift during my annual leave weeks I'd get £110-170 dependent on day/time. He is going to look at college courses to do one evening a week for further quals. He has his A levels, but he needed to go to uni to do anything with them the stupid bastard! so they are useless alone. He did software development, and is a whizz on the computer. So who knows what will happen in the future...

I just want to give up work for a couple of years!!!

ValiumQueen · 15/08/2012 19:22

I will be better off dropping to part time. I am hoping to work 9-2.30 mon to fri, and hoping Nursery will agree to shorter days for the younger two. Still waiting to hear back from Tax Credits, but we have worked out a budget that we can get by on while I am off even if they say we did get overpaid last year, and not entitled to anything this year. It has helped financially breaking my leg too as I am getting paid sick pay. I would love to be a SAHM, or think of something I could do to run a business.

Evilwater · 15/08/2012 19:23

Hello everyone, I'm 30 weeks here.

Swiss- I hope things work out for you.

Im still working nights, in fact I've got 4 weeks of nights. I'm not complaining too much as the money will be very helpful. Work is very busy, and my belly muscles tell me when I've done too much. Unfortunatly those damn bells won't stop ringing, and being short staffed and having the extra beds filled doesn't help.

Four weeks left at work, and I can't wait. My son still isnt very active, but is managing the 10 movements per 24 hours.

London was fantasic, I never eaten so well for so much money.
Evil

TheDetective · 15/08/2012 19:32

I'm on nights again tonight Evil This is my last lot for 4 weeks. Then I have 2 weeks of them before my annual leave begins!

The money is nice, but I'm just no good at recovering after them! Fine doing them, but not after!! I'm not even recovered from sunday night, and I'm back on them today!! Arghhhh!

gardenpixies32 · 15/08/2012 19:45

As predicated, I am growing monster babies!

3.2lbs & 3.25lbs! This make them the size of 31 weeks at 28+2! Consultant said I am good at growing babies. Both transverse and midwife says it is causing my uterus to stretch more than normal. Makes sense as I am like a whale.

Glad my girls are doing so well though. Off to bed, I am exhausted after my 3.5 hour hospital appointment.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 15/08/2012 19:48

Glad everything is going well garden Smile

I have a bruise on my ankle, it suddenly appeared about a week ago, no pain and I didn't bang it. It's dark purple and is not even beginning to fade. It went straight to purple too, didn't gradually get worse like normal bruises. Should I be worried at all? It looks like a lovebite! I'm wondering if it's blood related since I have thick blood?

Evilwater · 15/08/2012 19:49

It sounds like we have the same shift pattern. I finish night this week tonight, and then a early on sun, then four nights on the Monday.

I have no milk yet, is that bad? As for child care I havn't even thought about that yet, I'm just trying to take it one step at a time.

!!! TMI ALART!!!!!
This morning I had, a small piece of what looked like mucous. The mucous was white and creamy. Should I be worried? I have had kicks and movements from my son, and no abdo pain or tightenings.

Im off to work, and Ill try and catch up on the posts on my break, as I have discovered mumsnet on mobile.

Catbag · 15/08/2012 19:50

Oh. My. Word. gardenpixies They are some hefty twins! I thought mine were big- they were measuring 2lbs each at my 25 weeks' scan. I'm pretty sure they've put a lot of weight on in the last couple of weeks, but will have to wait until 3rd Sept for my next scan to find out how much. Good growing though Pixies!

Catbag · 15/08/2012 19:53

Evil I wouldn't worry- you're going to get a lot more where that came from in the coming weeks. If, however, it is streaked with blood, or a funny colour or smell, ring the midwife IMMEDIATELY!

ValiumQueen · 15/08/2012 19:55

Well done garden the combined weight so far is not much short of a singleton at term!

Well, nice Mr Tesco brought my food today, and apart from a cucumber, all of it was either value or half price. Mr Approved Food is bringing me another order tomorrow, year supply of couscous etc so I am being a very good frugal person. I am stretching meat and chicken into doing twice as many meals. I am even going to be making soup with a chicken carcass. Have not done that for years! I am spending a lot of time on the credit crunch forum, and the washable nappies have yet to leak! I must change her bedding. Usually she leaks twice a week at least so it is never anything I need to consciously do.

ValiumQueen · 15/08/2012 19:58

evil wot catbag said! Do not worry about lack of milk. Enjoy lack of milk in fact!

StuntNun · 15/08/2012 20:20

Tits I would get your bruise looked at. Could be nothing but it would be worth checking out in case it's a clot.

I hope YellowWellies is ok. I keep checking back to see if she's been on

Passmethecrisps · 15/08/2012 20:21

Evening ladies,

I can't remember who detailed the rewards scheme thing but it was really interesting.

Kids back at school today - bit of a shock to the system! I told one class that I would be on maternity leave come October break and one boy said "but are you sure it's yours miss?" Made me laugh.

I also find the fussy eater chat interesting. When I was wee I would eat anything. I used to suck the marrow out of chicken bones. Then I decided I wanted to be a vegetarian - I was rubbish at it and use to sneak slices of chopped pork from the fridge! Both my DH's parents and mine adopted a fairly relaxed approach to eating - if you don't want it then leave it. Strangely. He and I have similarl eating habits in that we will eat anything but our siblings are pretty fussy. I suppose we are not born empty vessels.

I am still not sure about tightenings/braxton hicks. I have moment when I feel like a swell and my bladder feels like it might burst. Then it fades a bit. I assume it is the baby stretching.

Our cot arrived today. We tested it at the end of our bed and it just fits in the room. It will be a bit of a nuisance but it would work.

kissyfur · 15/08/2012 20:23

Thanks for the info on incredible years stuntnun

Hope things work out for you money wise missmummy and detective

and good growing garden!

anyone heard from yellowwellies yet?

Passmethecrisps · 15/08/2012 20:47

Does missmummy know how YW is?

missmummy re budget - when I first saw my maternity pay conditions I cried properely for over an hour. Total panic.

MissMummy1 · 15/08/2012 20:55

I don't no - sorry! Although I saw her lovely twin sister today who didn't say anything so that must be a good thing? Hope she's okay anyway!

Had a cry to DH tonight when he got off the boat and he reminded me his car loan payments for a car he had before he even met me, grr end in October so that will be an extra 350ish a month I missed. Not a lot but every tiny bit makes a difference. He's also due a big payrise when he's finished his captain exams so that will make a difference too. Not going to get stressed about it. We've managed with a lot less. This will be the first winter i've not been a student and he's had permanent work (the last 3 years he's worked freelance seasonally so had nothing over winter) so that's something else I guess? What I take issue with is the government making it easy for people who have never worked a day in their lives. At least we have the knowledge that everything we have we have worked hard for and aren't waiting for someone to come and take it away...

Passmethecrisps · 15/08/2012 21:01

I know what you mean missmummy. I am the sole wage earner bar a few wee bits and pieces DH brings in. So when I am on mat leave it will be stat pay only. It's going to be tough and, we're neither of us employed or engaged in study, we would be better off. I fully support people being given financial aid if they need if but it can be tough when you do know that some simply choose to take.

I am glad YW's twin didn't mention anything as that must mean things are ok.

MissMummy1 · 15/08/2012 21:12

Yeah don't get me wrong there are a lot of deserving cases! My own mum became medically retired when she was 21 due to knackering her back in an accident and relied on certain benefits to make ends meet when her and my dad separated. I just think it is so wrong that there are people out there who are more than capable of working but haven't worked a day in their lives and see getting a bigger council house as a reason to have another child...

kissyfur · 15/08/2012 21:28

Totally agree missmummy

Sophiathesnowfairy · 15/08/2012 22:03

Everyone, back on the names thing, I would really appreciate your opinions. I already have a Matilda, Violet and a William and we re thinking of adding either:
Oliver
Arthur
Mildred
Edith
Nancy

By the way I have never seen George and Mildred! I don't know if I should be bothered that Oliver is no to on the charts or not.
