I have to confess the idea of a home birth terrifies me. I'm fixating on the mess & the clear up - that's the source of the terror. I quite like idea of a birthing pool but as yet no options have been discussed so I'm not sure if that'd be an option available or not.

Frankly whatever I need to do for a healthy happy Socrates is enough for me.

So ladies - are you all discussing names yet? Or am I just an excitable first time mom playing the name game?

Em2010 · 20/08/2012 21:24

mrsR my ds has just turned 2. It's a challenging age!! The word no is a bit of a joke to him but he is better than he was a few months ago, I think as he's getting older he's getting more empathetic and understanding that upsetting mummy is not a good thing! I fully expect this next one to be a boy too so I will probably be just like you in a couple of years!! Are you a sahm? Do the boys go to child care at all and give you a break?

hermione I was in hospital for AGES after I had ds do I tried plenty of rooms! Twin room, ward and single. To be honest (and I am a private person who likes her luxuries) the first couple of nights after I had ds I was so knackered that I could have shared a room with a dance troop and wouldn't have noticed! Having said that it was lovely when I got my single room - lots of peace and quiet. I've heard rumour on the grapevine that our local hospital (which isn't where I had ds) lets you pay for a single room after labour, your hospital might be the same? I don't think it matters where you give birth as long as its where you feel most comfortable - for me, who is very panicky, hospital was the best place but other people are happier at home. Sorry if I'm waffling on!! When I was at uni I wrote a paper on natural childbirth and the benefits of home birthing etc so it's a subject I have a lot of interest in. I had a really positive labour with ds so hoping for the same again! (it wasn't natural though!!)

Em2010 · 20/08/2012 21:25

He he! tramp x posted! I have names picked out already!!!

backwardpossom · 20/08/2012 21:27

We're not discussing names as such. This baby will be nameless for a while I suspect. I come up with a name I like and DH doesn't like it or vice versa. We only had one boy and one girl name last time... we can't even use the girl name anymore as my cousin pinched it Hmm

OP posts:
Em2010 · 20/08/2012 21:29

If ds had been a girl he would have been Isabel. I still live the name but I've met so many since then I feel I can't use it. Shame!

theTramp · 20/08/2012 21:35

Em - not just us then. I've set up a spreadsheet. We deleted a bunch following the 2011 favourite lists publication. I've two faves & two reserve faves. Boys just two names I like, MrM not so sure..

Backward - I'm guessing you're much more worldly wise about this baby lark than I.

backwardpossom · 20/08/2012 21:41

I think just running around after a mad 3 year old all day doesn't really leave me much time to think about everything too much. When I was pregnant with him, it was a totally different story!!

OP posts:
sundaesundae · 20/08/2012 21:43

Scarlett for a girl maybe..

Anyone else got nipples they'd happily cut off? Mine almost look black with ?blood and hurt all the time. Argggh.

Craving of the day is pork pie. Room service menu has a giant pork pie on the front. Pork pie is not on the menu. Holiday Inn Leeds Brighouse, you suck.

Tramp I am too scared of it all too, birthing pool at hospital maybe.

MrsR glad the bastards are in bed, go and look at the pregnancy madness thread, that will cheer you up :o)

hermione I don't like people and can be very shy, so dread being on some sort of ward, I think we might be too out of it to notice though!

Very pleased and well jel that everyone else seems to have had a scan at least already, I want to see a bean!!

JoJoBella84 · 20/08/2012 21:54

I'm happily nattering about names all the time, we have 3 good boy names and a few girls names but were still undecided.
I've had some sad news this evening, my lovely gran has passed away after years of Alzheimer's ill health and generally being a shell of her old self. It was left to me to break the news to my brother and sister who both took the news badly. I on the other hand, the girl who can cry at a McDonald's advert, am sitting here very calm, no tears and revising for an exam. I'm sure on Thursday my head will explode with everything that has happened.

Until then I have the closest thing to alcohol (koppaberg 0%) and am tapping away on the laptop.

Em2010 · 20/08/2012 21:56

jojo really sorry to hear about your gran. It's awful to watch someone you love slip away slowly. ((hugs))

sundaesundae · 20/08/2012 22:00

JoJo I am sorry to hear your news :(

theTramp · 20/08/2012 22:02

JoJo, really sorry to hear that. As someone who has seen what Alzheimers does I can understand the calm. I think you effectively lose people with Alzheimers, so the grieving starts earlier - if that makes sense. But you are overdue a melt down following your exam.

confuddledDOTcom · 21/08/2012 01:35

Getting fed of trying to catch up! Every time I do the internet crashes or if I put it in Word the laptop crashes!

Please stop talking food!!! I have such horrible heartburn right now. I've not had anything to eat because of it. I took some mintec when I fed the girls (supposed to take an hour before food to stop bloating) but after an hour I couldn't face it. About an hour ago I took some Gaviscon and I want more!

I started thinking about the stuff around the birth last night and just burst into tears. Not sure if it was realising what I went through or that I have to go there again that did it. The sooner I can meet with someone and get a plan in the better.

We?ve decided that I really need to learn to drive. When I have four children I won?t be able to rely on others to drive us around - we have two boot seats in our car so we?re ok. I?ve spoken to a man locally who believes in getting you through your test as quickly as it?s safe to and he thinks he should be able to get me driving by November, I don?t want to be learning after then because I?m likely to be spending a lot of time in and out of hospital. I?m going to do an intensive two week course in September/ October.

ATourchOfInsanity ? I love the coincidence! Of course I?m not likely to get that far, but it?s still cool.

Thank you, mandasand there?s been nothing since so hopefully that?s a good sign. After tomorrow I can go to the hospital if I'm worried about anything which helps me feel a little better.

Glad to hear it was a false alarm MrsR. Don?t believe that you?re a bad mum, it?s really not true, everyone always has an opinion on how you could do better. Stress isn?t going to make you miscarry either. It might affect your health, which we don?t want but it won?t make you miscarry before you get very poorly yourself.

HermioneBoo, it?s just a precaution to stop you rejecting the baby?s blood should they mix. It?s entirely optional, many women don?t get it done. Do some research before you decide or just go along with it if you?re happy to, most Rh- women get it. I?d love a homebirth, unfortunately having early babies means that?s out of the question. I supported the most amazing home birth, it was her third and the couple were pros! The midwives and I were just bystanders I think, they got on and did it all themselves. For a normal pregnancy it?s the safest way to deliver, but mum?s sense of security has to come into it and if she doesn?t feel safe at home during labour it will affect the birth.

Sorry to hear your news ChildOfThe1980s, Sad I hope we see you back on these boards soon.

Jojo, that?s one thing I get all the way through! I don?t think it ever goes, not until you?ve done the Day Three thing anyway!

Ouch zoey! Hope you?re feeling better soon.

Em, don?t worry about nails, lots of horror stories about all sorts. Even hair dye, the biggest issue is that your hormones make it take differently. The hospital I deliver in lets you pay for a single room to but I get one for free because I?m a preemie mum on a postnatal ward.

Sundae, I?m usually like that with the nipples but this time not at all, it?s part of the reason I didn?t believe it!

On the subject of maternity clothes, Mum bought me some tops £4 and £6 from New Look last week. I tend to hit Asda and H&M. I have quite a few left over from before, I like wearing them between pregnancies because they don?t put pressure on the belly, keep me warm when feeding and tops are big enough feeds. I let the buttonhole elastic out all the way on my jeans today. Goodness knows what I?ll look like closer to the end ? I?ll just be grateful for not going all the way I guess. I don?t just have a bump, I have a shelf under my boobs!

Another one with a bad sense of smell. I had to get my eldest to smell the baked beans I cooked for tea several time because they smelt vile to me! I don?t like them best of times but that was just nasty!

I?ve been reading about the nub theory lately and just wondering if anyone has tried to sex their picture as there?s lots of 12 week scans going on? Put your scans on your profiles and we can all have a go at guessing!

ATourchOfInsanity · 21/08/2012 02:05

Confuddled funny you say about the nub thing, haven't heard about it tbh but a friend recently said she was told sex at 13wks by sonographer. I didn't believer her tbh as I read 16 wks is earliest sex organs are apparent, but then someone else said they can tell by 12wks yesterday! Amazing! Scan on 29th so will see if I can upload. Definitely see someone though. My chat with the post c-section specialist was brilliant and long overdue. She said she set up the dept because ladies coming in pg again hadn't actually got over the first birth and so booking in appts became counselling sessions, which took over time wise and weren't specialist enough. Hope you get something sorted and soon. I was feeling like a meltdown tbh and the noose has loosened a bit now Wink

I don't drive either and it is pretty hard with just 1. Can't focus enough atm to think about theory test etc. Failed 3 times (should have been a world record as was within 6 seconds of leaving test centre) and gave up.

I actually bought a new toastie maker today people. It became a fixation at about 3pm and I had to go back into town with DD to satisfy my wont. Then got back and wanted baby bell instead Confused

Em2010 · 21/08/2012 06:52

I'm just lying in bed at the mo. feel too sick to get up. Wish I could just spend the day in bed! Another bad nights sleep with weird dreams. Dreamt bean was a little girl with glasses!

sundae Scarlett is a lovely name, I know a baby Scarlett and she is gorgeous!

insanity I read somewhere that about 95% of fully trained sonograohers could tell the sex at 12 weeks! Though given the number of people I know who couldn't find out at 20 weeks I'm a bit sceptical about that stat!

Well better go and get up. Fx I don't end up with my head down the lav....

pinkpeony4 · 21/08/2012 06:57

We found out ds3 was a boy at 12 weeks last time. We went for a private scan at the Fetal medicine centre on Harley St and they will tell you. They give you a % chance but we were told 90% boy and he definitely is! Loads of friends have been and they have been right every time. We are going on Friday for one which is exciting,

The scan is amazing and detailed & they are able to diagnose problems not normally seen until 20 weeks. For a massive worrier like me who likes to be reassured it was fab.

Hope everyone has a lovely day & good luck for any scans. Off to a safari park which should be fun! Smile

pinkpeony4 · 21/08/2012 07:00

JoJo really sorry to hear your news too.

Lexiindisguise · 21/08/2012 07:57

So sorry to hear your news JoJo. Good luck with your exam x

backwardpossom · 21/08/2012 08:12

Am emotional this morning, my baby boy starts nursery school today - don't know where the last 3 years have gone, and it's just the start of his school life bless him. He's so so so excited! Let's see how long the enthusiasm for school lasts...!

jojo sorry to hear your news, hope your exam goes really well.

mandasand · 21/08/2012 08:14

Hello everyone! I'm 12 weeks today which feels really, really good. But both DH and I are now hugely anxious about the scan on Saturday. We so desperately want everything to be okay, but our grand old age is against us and the NHS booklet we've been sent tells us that there's a higher risk of everything with multiple pregnancies. Gah! Please keep your fingers crossed for us! (And toes, just in case.)

Sorry to hear about your gran jojo. And how tough having to break the news to siblings too :-(

Aw, backward, take some tissues!

Crikey, lots to catch up on from yesterday! I'm really sorry to hear about your loo-fall, zoey.Glad all was well with the scans, Lexi, newyears and Tramp!!! I'm seeing a consultant too - 6 Sep, I think. Oxford is very on the ball in sending appts through, I have to say. Hope your hospital hurries up!

Good luck with driving instruction confuddled! I had a 15 year break between passing my test and picking up driving last year so I can empathise a little bit. I had to start again, learning what all the pedals did!

Oh, and we're definitely excitable first parents (FX!) discussing names! DH has a couple of ideas and I have a long list. Ideally something that can be shortened, and the four names we choose (going to keep sex a surprise till birth!) have to have the same number of syllables (don't ask!) One of DH's choices is a lovely name, but its etymology is biblical and I'd like to avoid names with religious connections. Neither of us are religious but I had a not very good over-religious upbringing and DH didn't have any, which is why perhaps I'm a bit more sensitive about it.

Another day at the desk now. Things hotting up with only two weeks till submission of this damn book. Trying not to think of begging for an extra 'pregnancy-related' week!

MrsRigby · 21/08/2012 08:34

Morning everyone.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the downstairs bathroom in the Rigby household is, as of about 8pm last night, wasp free. After complaining about the state of the place DH went in the bathroom, found said wasp and set it free outside. Unfortunately, he didn't get stung in doing so. He asked me how I knew it was a wasp and I told him "because it's thin and said buzz in a really nasty way" Hmm

theTramp just do what DH did and buy a big plastic sheet thing. When I was pregnant with DS2, my waters broke all over the couch I'm now sitting on, we just washed the covers - and then DS2 shit all over them.

You're not the only one already thinking about names, we are too and it's a good thing if you ask me. Sister-in-law didn't have a name for hers until a week after the baby was born. If we have a girl (please, please, please no) then it's easy, Emily after my nan (the one who died, but again it was nothing to do with me). However, if it's a boy... DH is hell bent on Alexander Rigby. I hate this name and besides it's quite hard for me to pronounce and forgive me, but I think that would just give the in-laws more fuel "oh look, she can't even pronouce her own sons name". I really love Lucas Rigby, but would also be happy with Thomas Rigby which is what we were going to call DS2. DS1 is James and DS2 is Miles. James, Miles and Alexander it just doesn't sound right does it.

em2010 no, I'm not a SAHM yet. It was the plan when DS1 came along, but we needed the money. However, DH doesn't think it'll make financial sense going back to work after number 3 arrives so I may become a SAHM. I work Wednesday to Friday so the boys are in nursery during this time. It's my favourite time of the week! If I ever had a second daughter (can't see it happening) I would have called her Isabel. The third, probably Verity.

sundaesundae after I've changed DS2 dirty nappy, I plan on looking at that thread whilst enjoying some wholemeal toast and orange juice.

DS2 seems to have invented a new game, he puts a car (toy one) on the end of the couch and then bangs either side until it falls on the floor and makes a loud bang. Quite cute, but if he doesn't stop soon, I'm going to put him on the edge of the couch and bang either side.

I do hope there's no one from Social Services on here. If so, I'm baking cakes with them today and doing painting - see I'm a good mum.

JoJoBella84 I'm so sorry.

confuddledDOTcom I am in the process of learning to drive too. I've been learning since 17 Hmm

Right, I'm off to get some toast and juice, oh I forgot about DS2 nappy, I suppose I better do that first.

theTramp · 21/08/2012 08:37

Mand - the no biblical names is one of my rules too. MrM is of Irish Catholic descent & it's all very biblical more for girls than boys. Also it lacks imagination.. Unless you go for Job and Bathsheba :)

MrsRigby · 21/08/2012 08:38

backwardpossom I really do feel for you. DS1 starts big boy school next September and I just know I'm going to be an emotional wreck. It was bad enough when he went to nursery, it was the first time I'd ever left him and I cried all the way home.

zoeymlucas · 21/08/2012 08:39

Morning
Congrats on 12 weeks manda how exciting to finally be there :)
MrsR I actually lol'd in the middle of the office at your posts - I think everyone things I am more crazy than normal - wishing you an easier day today :)
We have picked names already and have it down to one for each sex but I am sure that will prob change when we find out what it is - Our girls name was REALLY high on the popular list but we are going to double barrell it as I have a double barrell first name and DH loves the idea so not really fussed as it was a name we loved before that list anyway.
Sorry to hear your news Jojo and good luck for Thursday.
All this talk of scan is making me want mine 2nd & 3rd to hurry up - got my hospital operation paperwork through yesterday which was a little scary made it seem more really and forced the crazy side of me out and the need to control every single thing in the world

zoeymlucas · 21/08/2012 08:45

Love the name Lucas MrsR but as its my surname not sure it works that well, saying that my consultants name is David Davies, lol!! I wanted Thomas as well but hubby is not having any of it so think we have decided on Reece.

For a girl its Amelia-Grace and then her middle name will Mary be after my nan :)

I totally get that wasps buzz in a mean way - only a man wouldnt understand that, lol!
