Ho hum, was just looking at tickets for the 6 Nations, particularly Scotland v Wales at Murrayfield... almost went to buy a pair and then realised it's on the 9th of March... quite likely to have a newborn and still be in hospital on the 9th! Oops!

Quick one back to tiddley to say good luck too! My students have got good A level results today so I'm hoping it's a sign of a good day all around... Confused

Lexiindisguise · 16/08/2012 10:37

Welcome Lanny & hope you feel better soon! And good luck to scan ladies!
Had awful heartburn last night & gave myself a good talking to, no wonder my stomach is awful with the diet I've been eating! Granola, Greek yogurt & fruit so far today & a pile of healthy snacks in my bag. And Gaviscon Blush
Am excited and scared about 12 week scan on Monday. Definitely starting to look a bit pg now, boobs are bloody massive & stomach a different shape. Boss desperate to advertise my job as we struggle to recruit so if scan goes well think the cat will be out the bag when the maternity cover post goes out! She keeps asking me to confirm plans in writing but it feels super early.

mandasand · 16/08/2012 10:55

Yay for your lovely dancing babies Kirtsy and Sheldonella! Fabulous! Grin

Good luck for those with scans today - thinking of you and hopeful of yet more good news!

Welcome lanny Smile

Just back from 2nd appt with midwife who was very excited to learn about the private scan showing twins. I've lost a kilogram, oddly, and she couldn't find any heartbeats for the twins with the handheld thing, but had warned me beforehand that it may not be possible before 12 weeks (I'm 11+1) so I'm trying not to worry about that too much ? I have scan a week on Saturday so not too long to wait till I see them again and hopefully everything will be okay. But I have to say I'm a bit down.

Zoe how lovely to be by the seaside ? all the time! Lucky you - must be great for the kids too.

JoJoBella84 · 16/08/2012 11:09

manda I was reading online last night about feral heartbeat etc and it says that some parents can't hear it until 16-18 weeks, even 12 weeks is a bit early but there is lots to factor in, like how big the baby is and it's position, how large the mum to be is, extra weight around the Tim can make it difficult to hear, and how high your uterus is. It did point out that you can normally hear the heartbeat on a ultrasound machine though from about 6 weeks onwards. I'm not sure why- I guess just a much better piece of equipment!!
No panicking! Enjoy your almost nausea free pregnancy :) not long until the 12 wk scan :)

JoJoBella84 · 16/08/2012 11:09

My feral I clearly meant fetal!!!!

JoJoBella84 · 16/08/2012 11:10

And tum, not Tim...

JoJoBella84 · 16/08/2012 11:12

Oh good grief, let me start again!!!
BY feral I clearly meant fetal.
Have I missed any more??

tiddleypompom · 16/08/2012 11:13

Dancing tiddley-bean :)

EDD 25/02/13 but I'll stay with you guys if you'll let me? DS was 6 days late and I'm determined to get a March birthday :)

Phew. Almost shaking with relief.

backwardpossom · 16/08/2012 11:14

tiddleypompom · 16/08/2012 11:15

manda don't fret - I didn't hear ds's till 16 weeks as I have an anterior placenta (late movements too). Please don't worry!

zoeymlucas · 16/08/2012 11:20

I am sure everything is fine manda they were just playing hard to get :) I didnt let my midwife listen in last week as she said its hard to find at 9 weeks but sometimes they can and I knew if they couldnt which is normal before 12 weeks I would worry so decided not to.

Yeah the kids love it and its nice to go for a walk with them and grab a picnic and trundle down the beach/ park with a ball and towels :)

I rang the hospital and now have consultant at 10.00am on 30th aug and normal scan at 10.35 on 30th Aug!

zoeymlucas · 16/08/2012 11:21

Congrats tiddley Grin

Em2010 · 16/08/2012 11:31

Congrats tiddly thrilled for you and don't you dare go leaving us for another thread!!

manda when I was pg with ds the mw refused to even try and listen to the heartbeat before 16 weeks as she said it was too hard to find before then and might cause unnecessary worry. Could well be an anterior placenta as they really do pad things out down there!

Hope everyone else is having a good day. Sun is shining here which means only one thing! Laundry....

Sheldonella · 16/08/2012 11:36

Yay kirsty and tiddley Nooo don't leave us tiddley, you make me laugh!
manda No worrying allowed. Not long now until your scan.
zoey My scan is the 30th too, only 2 weeks to go!
I can't stop smiling today :)
Another pram I have discovered - Phil & Teds Dot. Anyone seen one? Claims to be same as mountain buggy swift.
Also, the maternity exemption for prescriptions thingy - where do I get this? I had one with last pg but can't remember how I got it.

GummiberryJuice · 16/08/2012 12:02

Manda if you lived over hear they wouldn't even try to check for heartbeat until 16 weeks as it really is hard to pick up before then, so please don't worry,

Yey for Kirsty and Tiddley March thread is the place to be!

Hope Sheild is just really busy with her writing she hasn't been about

Welcome Lanny

ME! I'm still waiting on my first scan (just incase anyone had forgottenGrin)

Oh and is anyone else very windyBlush I think my digestive system is all over the place!

GummiberryJuice · 16/08/2012 12:03

over hear?? over here obviously

zoeymlucas · 16/08/2012 12:14

Good for you sheld with the smiling I am far to tired for that, lol!! However am excited about my mum making my fav dinner tonight for me so that might get a half smirk when I FINALLY leave the office :) thats cool we have scans the same day however I do sort of feel I dont need 2 35 mins apart from each other in just different rooms by different people.

Cant you phone them gummi and chase them for your scan date - I have a habit of ringing if there not fast enough and it tends to kick at lease someone up the bum!

You cant go tiddley and anyway we may all be due March but some of us will go over to April and a few might go in Feb anyway - I am hoping for Jan/Feb (Feb would be amazing but being realistic)

mandasand · 16/08/2012 12:22

Yay for baby-tiddley! Brilliant, brilliant news! Pleeeease stay with us! All being well, mine will be Feb babies too but I'm not going anywhere Smile

Sheldon, my MW gave me the maternity exemption form at the first appt not that I've sent it off yet

You lot are fantastic. I went to bed for an hour feeling really despondent and you've so cheered me up! I think I was just a bit extra freaked out because she tried sooo hard to find it and didn't (I think) make eye contact with me again after that (tho that could be me being hormonally paranoid), even though I was waffling on about 'oh well hopefully it's not a double MMC!' etc. There was no problem hearing the heartbeats at the scan, but perhaps that machine - being so much more powerful - is just better than the hand-held machine, like you say, JoJo?

Also, although she was perfectly lovely again, I got the sense that in a way she signed off on me a bit: apparently because it's my first birth and twins, and the other 'high risk' factors which have to be assessed, the likelihood of a natural birth in the MLU is very low and there's a high chance it will be a c-section. Which is fine, but she kept saying, oh, ask your consultant about this and that, and suddenly it seemed as if everything was going to be more medicalised than before. But two healthy babies is the most important thing.

Anyway, thank you so much. I feel better hearing your encouragements and advice. Really, thanks. Thanks

Chefette · 16/08/2012 12:50

gummi is your scan on the 4th same as me? Congrats on good newsies all round everyone, its very nice to hear x

tiddleypompom · 16/08/2012 12:53

Thanks guys :) am all choked up!

Also still waiting for bloods - an hour so far ho hum. At least I have piccy to look at whilst we wait...

Welcome on board lanny! Sorry I was a bit distracted earlier :o

Windy gummi? Yes. Yes. Yes.

Parp :o

zoeymlucas · 16/08/2012 12:58

manda with the ultrasound machine they can see the baby and the heart beat so know where to zoom into to hear it with a dopplier they are chasing blind to a point and the little monkeys can bounce around and move now and the placenta could well get in the way :) The MW was prob just caught up finishing paperwork and finishing your appointment :) Also C-sections are not to bad and I suppose for twins 'better' wouldnt want to labout and then need a c-section easier to have one or the other :)

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 16/08/2012 13:21

Hi all

manda I know four people who have had twins in last two years, all of them had consultant led care. I think even if in normal circumstances you would be low risk, the fact you are having twins seems to pop you into that high risk bracket. Of those 4, two lots came on due date (38 weeks by c sec) one lot at 36 weeks (vag birth) and one lot at 33 weeks, c sec.

So there are options open to you, depending on the lie of the babies. I think the problem in most cases is that one of them us quite often breech, so that complicates things.

Don't worry about the Doppler either, like the others have said, the sensitivity us much less than the ultra sound equipment which can zoom in and in!

Congrats on fab scan news ladies! V jel!

Already have my mat exemption card AND a letter from the health visiting team! That made me laugh cos I haven't seen hide not hair of them for well over 18 months with DD!!!!

Gave just stuffed my face, massive sandwich and toffee donut! Piglet! Blush

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 16/08/2012 13:24
