We're on safari with the labour spotting signs... How long till the next baby arrives?

Pull up a birthing ball, sup some raspberry leaf tea and tuck into the 'big boy pineapple balti'. We're on the home straight!

Lovely birth stories :) congrats to all who have popped!

Had a stretch and sweep on Friday. Ouch! But was over quick enough.

Plug came away today yay! I am still not in a rush to have babe out. But I am getting excited. Went to a BBQ birthday party yesterday. Absolute Fab!

woopsidaisy · 19/08/2012 08:11

INDUCTION DAY! Eek.
Cannot believe that this baby doesn't want to come out! But this time tomorrow I will hopefully have a new baby. Double eek!

Weekipper · 19/08/2012 08:25

Ah Needles and Tash I found my EDD quite hard going cos I like it when a plan works and not being able to really speed my body into action till it was ready was frustrating.

So Esme's birth story: went along to 41wk midwife appt taking DH for hand holding duty during sweep. My BP was up (again) so sent to day Assessment unit and told take my bag this time! Got there and BP settled as has happened previously. Same consultat comes in and is shocked baby hasn't appeared since she saw me at 38.5wks. Gives me a VE and finds cervix 1-2 and gives thorough sweep. (3.30pm) By the time we were in car heading home I was getting crampy. By 4pm I was v uncomfortable and realised these were different and coming regularly. DH started timing them. By 6.30 I tried TENS and found it wasn't for me. Back to back baby meant lots of back pain and almost sciatic type pain in thighs. Pacing was what helped. Paracetamol just got vomited back. Contractions were every 2-3 mins and lasting 1m. DH called hospital and after they spoke to me they said go in.

At triage I was a bit worried about waiting in waiting room but they only kept me there for 2mins, enough for another contraction but I held it together as I didn't want to scare anyone. Given choice of MLU or CLU I chose MLU first to try pool. Room was OMG amazing. Examined and only 2cm dilated, worried I get sent home but they didn't mention in. I paced and paced. Given dihydracodine. Paced till about 8.30 then into pool-amazing! Still powerful but contractions slowed a bit and I dozed in between. Then they ramped up towards 11pm and I decided enough was enough and epidural sounded fab. Examined again and found was 5cms and this would explain the increasing pain. Tried Gas made me feel a bit sick at this point. Pain had moved to lower abdomen. Got transferred upstairs leaning on knees against chair.

Took that position on bed and they started putting cannula in my hand (bit stingy) Gas &air helped. Then the urge to push started. Very hard to not fight it first and tricky to let everything relax. My waters totally went here and perhaps other bodily fluids too, I was beyond caring. Basically never coming off Gas at this point. Onto back about 00.30. Proper pushing with my foot on midwife's hip and ta da Esme born 00.55!

She came out facing my back so she must have turned. Cord wrapped round her body and covered in Meconium and not breathing well so Paed doctor took her. DH went too (he's a doctor). I wasn't too worried yet as I assumed after some oxygen she'd be fine.

DH and Esme back with docs to say she had to go to neonates for obs but we had a cuddle first. Her breathing was quite grunty. Told we could see her in an hr or so after she'd had a chest x-ray.

Midwife got me all stitched (just a wee tear) and I had a bath and toast. Taken to my own room so we could relax until unit called. Got a bit worried when it was 5am or so and no call had come but then it did. All Esme's signs were normalising gradually so staff were reassuring us. Given 48hrs precautionary antibiotics and staff explained how things worked in unit and visitors etc. Docs explaining what all the monitors meant etc and that they were especially interested in her blood gases as the cord showed she had been without oxygen for a wee bit.

Esme got moved from ICU to Special Care when her brain monitoring showed nothing and her heel pricks were good. Another brain scan showed nothing again and so now we're waiting to see what her blood cultures show.

Feeding is going ok but I've chosen to top up with formula till my milk cones in properly as since Esme has come off her drip she's playing catch-up and my boobs can't keep up!

There you go. So a straight forward birth but so speedy it was a bit stressful for LO but looking positive quite soon after.

Lots of labour dust to all those waiting. Flowers

therumoursaretrue · 19/08/2012 08:34

Ladies just a quick quick update! I was due for induction tomorrow at 39 weeks due to DVT, PIH and early pre-e signs...it's been rough! However my waters have just broken on their own so baby could be here sooner. I'm absolutely terrified!

Thankfully I'm already in hospital but of course DP is not contactable, still snoring away I'm sure! Wish me luck!

woopsidaisy · 19/08/2012 08:38

Wow! You did so well weekipper! Congratulations, and glad everything is normalising for wee Esme. Gorgeous name too!

woopsidaisy · 19/08/2012 08:40

Ooooooo, good luck therumoursaretrue! I'm being induced today also! So we can be birth buddies! Not long for us now.

susiegrapevine · 19/08/2012 08:53

Morning everyone that's left, feels so few of us now. tashaw I know how you feel as I had ds at 38+3 and am now 39+5 so feel well over due! Would have been better the otherway round.

weekipper sounds like birth was a not too bad but the aftermath was a bit worrying at least you know your little one was in the right place. Love the name.

woops good luck with the induction!

Gonna go up the hospital today and sneak my grandad out for a picnic lunch with the family only at the lake at the hospital! Should be good then back to mum and dad's for a bbq shame my grandad can't come to that too lol. Hope everyone else has a good sunday and we have more babies soon.

therumoursaretrue · 19/08/2012 08:56

Oh good luck daisy!

Lovemarmite · 19/08/2012 09:01

Lovely to hear your birth story weekipper, sounds positive and really like hearing the positive stuff right now! Hope Esme is doing well now and her bloods comes back as good x

Good luck woops and rumours, hope today goes really well!

To us left, labour dust all round x

Glimpers · 19/08/2012 10:18

Massive congrats to all who now have their babies in their arms Smile
Started with contractions yesterday and have been up since 0315 this morning with them, getting v ouchy but still only between 5 and 9 mins apart so off for a walk in a bit to see if I can encourage things along.
Am 40 + 3 by scan dates but 40 by my dates, so will see if this monkey wants to be punctual!
Lots of labour vibes to those of us still waiting...

tumblebug · 19/08/2012 10:19

Congratulations on all the new babies! Nd good luck to woopsi and rumours, hope you get to meet yours soon.

Weekipper, hope all ok and you can take esme home soon.

I'm also still waiting, due tomorrow but slightly surprised to still be waiting so sympathy for everyone else feeling the same. My DS was born at 39+2, measuring big so had been referred back to clinic (never got there) I just expected this one to be the same! Hoping it's a good sign for my vbac that everything's different though!

My parents are here now to be on standby/ help with ds (who will not do what he's told and thinks being told off is a game).

Really hope it isn't too long or we'll all get a bit bored!

miaboo · 19/08/2012 10:58

Morning, 39+5 to just like you susie getting increasingly fed up and cabin fever has hit big time! been out of the house 4 times since the beginning of July and 3 were to the midwife!! Walking has never been so painful, ds1 was 10 days early and ds2 was 2 days late so dont know whats happening, at the midwife on Tuesday and can have a sweep if I request it she didnt seem keen but as much as I dont want one I think its the only way forward I had one with ds2 the day after he was due and I think thats what started things off. Feel that I've let my children down as really wanted to enjoy ds1 first school holidays and I've hardly done a thing with him, got a couple of things planned once ds3 arrives but looking like he will be back at school at this rate! Planned a soft play trip and then a lovely family meal after and a theme park trip but for the 2nd week of dh's paternity so we have the first week to settle baby in alittle, so he has to come this week!!
Feeling pretty scared about the labour this time no idea why and really trying not to think if I make it to Tuesday whats going to happen!
If dh tells me to hurry up and pop this baby out one more time I may just punch him, I would love nothing more then to be able to take my other 2 boys round the corner - a 5 minute walk! to the park but cant :(

Nightfall1983 · 19/08/2012 12:12

Feeling pathetically sorry for myself, managed to accidentally (and stupidly) drop my whole handbag in the bath. Including all the usual bits, iPhone, kindle, car keys, electronic alarm fob and by bad-timing and coincidence Marriage Certificate and cheques totalling nearly £200.

Have been in tears all morning (silly pregnancy hormones) and to top it off even before the bath event was feeling unwell, nauseous, sore belly (which is why i was having a bath) and baby in an awkward position under my ribs. Feel very Sad

Popysnoss · 19/08/2012 15:14

Hey All.

I'm new, due 31st Aug at BGH, in Scotland.

Hope everyone is well. Smile

tashaw28 · 19/08/2012 16:20

Thanks guys, have been out for lunch and a little potter round shops today which was quite painful (braxton hicks as usual) but at least I feel like I haven't wasted the day, so hot here my feet and ankles are quite attractively puffy!!
Quite a story weekipper hope she's back with you v soon.
Good luck to the labouring/induced ladies too, am trying not to be jealous promise!
And welcome to popys, hope you don't go over too Wink

MrsMigginslovespies · 19/08/2012 16:29

Afternoon all,

Lovely to hear your story Weekipper and although stressful sounding at times, glad all is well and massive congratulations!

Nowt to report from my end at all exccept any exciting symptoms I may have had have gone, apart from soreness under the bump. 40+4 now, so am going to call MW in the morning and see if they can do another sweep (but not by consultant from last week!). Have been bouncing on ball, doing small jobs, going for walks, having baths, drinking RLT and so far, not a lot works. But I guess he'll come when he's ready. Am booked in on Fri for induction, but REALLY hope he's here by then.

Nightfall, what a nightmare about your bag. Hoep you get it sorted soon and my sympathies are with you. Booo.

And finally, welcome to Popysnoss! Hope you're well and nice to see you on here. I'm having my baby at the BGH too (hopefully any day now!) so maybe see you there!

Off to cinema in a bid to get out of the house. Enjoy your evenings and hope it's less rainy where you are xx

Popysnoss · 19/08/2012 19:18

Hi Ladies.

Thanks for the welcome. Wow, can't believe there's someone else on here going to BGH. :-) Look forward to hearing how you get on...

I'm hoping not to deliver early, have got a BIG week at work this week, then would like a week to get organised (if possible)

However, previous babies were early, so best to go to work tomorrow with hospital bag in the car - just incase...

Have a nice evening all.

Loislane78 · 19/08/2012 20:42

Update from me - Baby Girl arrived at 38+5 on Thursday morning weighing 7lb 2oz - 3days before planned induction so v lucky:) Name still TBC!

Great experience with the MWs and docs at the hospital who were fantastic. VB delivery and even with poor position only 12 hrs start to finish and no instruments so feeling incredibly lucky.

Bit of jaundice but we're home and everyone well.

Sending positive labour vibes your way!!

tumblebug · 19/08/2012 22:43

Lois congratulations, glad all well must be nice being home.

Poppysnoss hi! Still at work - wow (slightly jealous as I've had 2 weeks maternity leave already, no sign of any baby yet and starting to get bored, but not mobile enough to do all the house stuff I'd like to...). My prev DS was early, it appears that doesn't mean anything...

Miaboo and nightfall hope your days improved a bit. I also had a bit of a pregnant moment - put some cloths in a 90 degree wash (almost never do this - nesting???) but didn't notice I'd already put some of DS's clothes in the machine. It appears clothes are much more resilient to high temperatures than I expected! (a bit battered looking though).

Congrats lois. Welcome popy.

maiboo fortunatly I don't have the cabin fever as my mum works in a school and is on holidays and my sis has just finished her teacher training so has the summer off. So I have lots of people to get me out of the house!

Went to see my grandad is hospital yesterday and turns out the young man in the bed opposite my grandad who also has a collasped lung like my grandad is my midwifes son! She turned up while I was there! Mad! Was like a sauna at the hospital yesterday! Glad I'm having a home birth!

No baby news here yet tho :(

Missingpate · 20/08/2012 09:15

Hi ladies, well how lovely to hear about all these babies! Huge congrats to everyone and good luck to all those still waiting, hope not long now

Baby Jake was born on Thursday 16 august, so we queue jumped rather with a section at 37 + 5, but still a good weight at 6lb 1oz. He is beautiful with dimples and a full head of hair! It was a stressful late pregnancy in and out and then pretty much just in hospital full time with placenta previa bleeding, but the hospital was amazing and all worked out perfectly in the end.

It's so nice to be home!

geekette · 20/08/2012 09:34

Sounds like it was a bit of a scary one missingpate but you pulled through brilliantly. Well done and Congrats !

justine09x · 20/08/2012 09:35

Congratulations to all and good luck rumours!!

TMI alert, me and dh did the deed last night and this morning woke up with show with blood and a clear out, please please baby I want u out!!

Labour dust for all those waiting xxx

NeedlesCuties · 20/08/2012 10:15

Getting those 'false labour' pains again, the same as those I had on Thursday :( Spent past hour leaning over every 10 mins in pain, but still able to walk and talk, so I'm assuming it's braxton hicks.

Pain is worst when I stand up - really feel like I can feel my cervix move! - but when I sit down it doesn't really hurt.

DS is away out for a few hours with my dad, so if labour comes now that would be handy enough as he wouldn't have to see me in pain.

Come on baby!!
