We're on safari with the labour spotting signs... How long till the next baby arrives?

Pull up a birthing ball, sup some raspberry leaf tea and tuck into the 'big boy pineapple balti'. We're on the home straight!

Congrats lynnie forgetful and 3bears what lovely names too and lynnie my last baby's head just came out like that he was also born in his waters, I had some foreign maternity assistants at the hospital come and they all touched him for luck, apparently in some countries he would of been head of the village!! Never forget that feeling of sheer panic when I realised his head was emerging so hats off to you!!!!

No news here, my dh started a new job yesterday so I had to go from birmingham to Peterboro by train, I was petrified I was going to go into labour! 38 weeks today and last baby was born at this time so here's to hoping.......as someone said hopefully a nice weekend baby, I really don't want to call dh at work in his first few days!

Lucky labour dust for all you that are waiting and sleep and rest dust for those brave ones with the lovely newborns! Xx

Lovemarmite · 17/08/2012 09:39

Hope everyone is fit and fab today x

Some advice please
My whole tummy has red angry stretch marks across and around it and basically it made a mw wince last Sunday and so that must be bad?! Hmm
They only came in about 2 weeks ago and I've been using oils etc but they are very hot to touch now and clothes make them feel like they're burning at times. Is there anything I can put on them to calm the skin more?
I was thinking of greek yoghurt perhaps and I'm sending DH into town later and would love to know any possible aids please
40+6

NeedlesCuties · 17/08/2012 10:20

love I don't have any tips for what creams will work, but just wanted to let you know that the ache will fade and the marks will also fade.

I got lots of stretchmarks with DS, was like a zebra! After a few months they faded to a pale purple colour and didn't sting anymore.

Now I'm pregnant with DC2 they look worse than ever, and have got more in places that I didn't think possible. But am hoping they fade like my first ones did.

Is your skin very pale? I have a very Irish complexion - dark hair, pale freckly skin and pale eyes - and sometimes think that is why I get stretchmarks. Could be wrong though!

susiegrapevine · 17/08/2012 10:24

Oh marmite its sounds horrid. I have been lucky with stretch marks and only have a few but was thinking if you are using something sented it could be irritating it I would use either e45 or sudocreme seems to soothe the skin.
Guess you could try yogart or anything cooling like cucumber or maybe even a fragrance free after sun would help?

Lovemarmite · 17/08/2012 10:37

Thanks Needles
I really hope yours are not too painful?
Yes I'm red haired and definitely have pale skin. Purple marks don't sound too bad, like little trophies perhaps?! At the moment, they're so itchy too and I can't touch them.

I've not put on any weight apart from baby weight as it's all out front and I think this might be a reason for why my skin is so stretched. The mw said, 'oh I see you're usually very small'. Tbh, I'm a little aware of how much my belly hurts that the pain of labour has been distressing me but don't quite know how to embrace the pain yet Confused
I suppose the pain of labour will mean an end to the tummy pain? Oh why am I such a wuss!

Nightfall1983 · 17/08/2012 10:50

In a rush but just wanted to recommend Sudocreme to lovemarmite definitely worth a try xxx

Lovemarmite · 17/08/2012 11:06

Thanks Nightfall there was a little sample of it in a nct pack - will slap on shortly!

MrGeresHamster · 17/08/2012 11:19

Marmite Aqueous cream is another suggestion that you can slather on! Also pure coconut oil (Superdrug sells it) is brilliant for serious hydration!

OP posts:
NeedlesCuties · 17/08/2012 11:20

Love no mine aren't sore, get itchy though and sometimes a dull ache.

After DS was born I used to joke that there was a tiger at Belfast zoo that wanted its stripes back Grin I live about a mile from there and was joking that I'd stolen the stripes for my belly.

I do see them as trophies... sometimes anyway!

(39 weeks today)

Lovemarmite · 17/08/2012 11:32

Thanks susie and MrGeresHamster - will check them out too.
The Neals Yard mothers balm has pure coconut oil as it's base and it's been brilliant for keeping it hydrated and it's definitely calmed it a wee bit, just would love a miracle cure Hmm

Needles that's exactly what they look like - tiger stripes!

Weekipper · 17/08/2012 11:37

Congratulations on all the births! When I get home I'll read the last few pages properly rather than iPhone.

So Esme Alice Kipper was born this morning at 00.55 weighing 6.13lbs. From sweep to baby in 9hrs! Lots of Meconium so in neonates getting observation and precautionary antibiotics. All staff have been reassuring and great. Managed to express a wee amount which she gobbled up and now have managed to breast feed her too.

Can't believe it actually happened. The lorry loads of labour dust must be working!

MrGeresHamster · 17/08/2012 11:42

Congratulations Weekipper!

Now can you send some of that labour dust back this way...? 41+3 today and eviction papers have been served for Sunday which I would love to avoid.

MrsMigginslovespies · 17/08/2012 11:45

Wow, love LOVE hearing all about the new babies and the stories to go with them! Congratulations everyone and hope you don't mind a mass congratulations either, but am on a borrwed ipad as my laptop has yet again packed up Angry.

Love, hope you feel better soon with your marks. Stupid question, but have you tried Bio-oil? I was able to use it quite soon after surgeries etc and it does really sooth. Or E45 may help too? Poor you, no fun at all. I found one ON MY BOTTOM today!!! Beautiful!

So, I think my waters may be breaking bit by bit. Have felt rather soggy today (sorry TMI!) that's different from all the other lovely gunk I've had this week. Was very crampy and backachy last night and this morning and felt exactly like my period is coming. Have had a nice bath, but still very crampy etc. Be so exciting if baby came soon! House is all ready for him, and so are we! Even DDog knows something is going on, bless her!

Hope everyone has a good day and manages to pass the time ok! 40+2 today! x

Lovemarmite · 17/08/2012 11:50

Fantastic news, congratulations weekipper
Lovely name too and hope she's soon out of obs. Sounds like you're doing brilliantly and well done of 9 hours - wow, could this be our August record so far? Wine Thanks

Nightfall1983 · 17/08/2012 11:53

Weekipper Congratulations!! Hope mine is a little one like that Grin

So I've got the day off work today (whoop) and I just went down to my local breastfeeding support group, thought it would be nice to meet people and see whats what before baby's here. It was nice, but for some reason to mums showed up today! I did have 3 staff members to myself though... They were very friendly and said that it varies and sometimes there are too many for the room and sometimes no one shows till gone 12 (group is from 11 to 12:30) but I'm still glad I went...

lovemarmite I second all the recommendations for aqueous cream, bio oil etc for hydration but really recommend trying the sudocream for soreness. I haven't had any stretch marks (touches wood) but I Blush keep plucking at the little hairs on my belly and lately this has been causing a nasty red rash and yucky sores, sudocream helps to start clearing them up within a few hours...

38 + 6 today - so close!!

Lovemarmite · 17/08/2012 11:58

Thanks MrsMiggins was going to check out Bio-oil too - poor DH who hates spending money on lots of things that 'might' help is going to get a list of such things Wink
Also wondering if I'm losing my waters too. I had a few tiny gushes and wet a panty liner which then didn't smell and now have a pad on and it's soggy too (hee hee, carrying on your TMI!). Feeling headachey and belly is very tight but no real dull aches really yet. I've already had one false alarm and so waiting a bit longer before contacting mw or see if any contractions start.
Let us know how you get on Mrsmiggins

justine09x · 17/08/2012 12:02

congrats weekipper and a beautiful name, that is one of my choices, the other is Amelia, but now Ive seen its the number 1 on the top 100 names for this year and I don't want her to have 5 Amelias in her class so i'm a bit stuck now, will have to see what she looks like none of my dc's have had a name until a week old.

been to see doc and he said she is 2/5 engaged so only 1/5 to go so please please please let this be something seems as its 3rd baby.

it's been me tipping the lorry loads of labour dust so i'll back up the truck with the next lot as it seems to be working....................set aside skipload for you hamster as mini hamster must leave the big mother house!

MrGeresHamster · 17/08/2012 12:11

Right. New eviction plan. I have the cd player lined up with 'tunes' currently on Michael Jackson no. 1s. Mini Hamster will actually have to hold on tight if he wants to stay put where he is...?

Any suggestions for tunes to dance baby out with? Grin

How about:
Elvis Presley 'It's now or never'

Lovemarmite · 17/08/2012 14:42

Sorry I am being so needy today! Please some more advice

Just looked at my feet - aghhhh ghastly. They're normally swollen and sore but now they're purple all over and massive. I think it's normal as I've googled it but what should I do? may sit them in a cold bath but at the moment I'm trying to elevate them. Seems a bit daft to call mw about my overly fat feet Hmm

MrGeresHamster · 17/08/2012 15:09

Marmite call your midwife just in case. I have been 'observed' for pre-eclampsia because of blood pressure and one of things they have asked about is sudden swelling which I don't have as mine is continuous. It's worth calling just in case. Are you in one of the hot areas of the uk? It could be the weather but worth talking to your midwife.

Otherwise, cold water, elevation, massage and to keep drinking lots of fluids unfortunately not wine.

OP posts:
Lovemarmite · 17/08/2012 15:56

Thanks MrGeres, will follow your advice!
I was at the hospital yesterday and they took my bp and all was fine and they looked at my feet and said, oh yes the weather isn't helping! Hmm
I've just had them up for 30 mins and the purple has gone down and I'll see what they look like after a bit of ironing. Drinking a pint of water now too.
We're on the south coast and it's 27 degrees and so it might be just the heat but will call mw if they don't look any better shortly. I can describe them now as red puff balls!
Just got some bio-oil and will apply it shortly as a massage for LO too! Sudocream there too as back up later.
Thanks x
