Hi everyone!

I think I did this correctly! Eeeek! Probably not Blush I think we still have a few messages to go on the old one, so it's here for when we're ready :)

Honey we're scan buddies, mine is also on the 25th! I will be 20w exactly by my dates then, are you the same? When did you find out you were pg, particularly late? There's an idea that for the first few weeks the baby isn't actually attached to your blood supply at all, so not much can effect it? It lives off the yolk sac for a while, but I don't think it's as long as 10 weeks (when the placenta usually starts working, though it's not fully running till 12 weeks?).

This is all stuff I've cobbled together from various information sources, a lot of it mumsnet, so can't really say it's fact. It makes sense though I think.

I'm sure your scan will be fine, try not to worry about it. The odds are in your favour of everything being OK. I'm just trying to think of mine as a chance to see baby, and ignore all the checks they'll be running.

My NCT classes were £170, they have a payment plan you can use to spread the cost, or there are some schemes to get them cheaper if you're on low income. It's worth taking a look, even if you think you can't afford it. I didn't bother with the membership (£60 a year I think) as it just seemed far too expensive, luckily it's not needed to go to the classes or the sales.

MyDaydream · 17/07/2012 17:38

Bubbless for me the pillow was worth it because I've been really uncomfortable in bed and this has really helped fixing me in a place I'm comfy in. Although I woke up last night thinking DP was giving me a big hug when really I'd just got tangled up in it! DP is also benefitting because it wedges me on my side so he's getting a better sleep too now I'm not pushing him out.
I'm not having horrible dreams just vivid ones that leave me really confused and still tired when I wake up.
We decided against NCT since most people say they do them for the social side rather than the learning and I've read some very mixed reviews on the actual content. I'd hate to spend all that money and be disappointed. I'm going to aqua natal from next week and will probably go to baby groups to try and make friends. My mum didn't do antenatal and she managed to deliver me just fine
Honey don't worry yourself about the time before you knew. There are loads of people who were taking/eating/drinking things not advised in pregnancy who have healthy babies, including one mum I know who was taking worse than sleeping pills. And don't forget two of the weeks you were pregnant there wasn't actually a baby so it was a really really tiny part of pregnancy and development. I'm sure it'll all be fine.

HoneyMum21 · 17/07/2012 17:44

Stacks Yay for scan buddies :) I'll be 20+2 (by scan measurements which i still think are slightly out but what do i know-it's onlymy body The digital pregnancy test said 1-2 weeks since conception when we found out which i think equates to about 4 weeks preg? So from what you've said im feeling a bit reassured, thanks :) What time is your scan? Mine isn't till 4 :( but also seeing MW in the morning so will be a full baby day!

Thanks as well MyDaydream :)

Stacks · 17/07/2012 17:50

I'll be 20+3 by the scan dates (which I know are wrong) so we're fairly close.

At 4 weeks baby is still just burrowing down into your uterine lining, and no transfer of substances from your blood supply to it should have been possible.

I'm a bit worried myself as I've been taking Omeprazole for my whole pg so far, and the box says it's not for use in pg. My doctor has tried to reassure me by saying it's not because it's known to be a problem, but because it's not known it doesn't cause problems.. which is slightly reassuring. I just wish I could stop taking it all together.

Stacks · 17/07/2012 17:50

oops, scan is at 13:30.

Equimum · 17/07/2012 17:52

Envy at everyone who's having their scans. Mine's not until 8th August, which feels like forever away!

A bit delayed I know, but congratualtions to everyone who got enagaged Grin

I hope NCT classes aren't a waste of time(!); We've just spent over £200 on them.

We're also looking at doing a Hpnobirthing course. Has anyone else done/ thought about this? I kind of like the idea, and know my friend feels she really benefitted from it, but it's another £200+ so I'm not convinced just yet.

Also, has anyone tried pregnancy yoga. I'm considering joining a class, as much for the social side as anything. My horse has gone on loan so I'm at a bit of a loose end filling evenings.

Bubbless · 17/07/2012 17:54

barbeasty- yeahhhh, it makes it more affordable as its monthly, but i think im talking myself out of how much help it will be!? anyone done NCT before?!

spotty- sounds horrible :( my dream last night was that my DP had been blown up and had left me a video diary to get me through it, basically PS i love you.. woke up at 4am and cuddled him so hard i woke him up Blush

weejo- ive got a bit of rib discomfort, i feel like down my left side they are almost grinding together when i sit down, very odd..

does anyone actually know where abouts our babies are lying at the moment? i find the heartbeat wth my doppler between the bottom of my belly and the top of my pelvis..

honey- i know its a worry, i was on a hen weekend 4 days before i found out.. i was still hungover on the day i did the test?! whats done is done, we are all doing our best now Grin make the most of your baby day and buy something for bump, i plan to on my next scan, its going to be exciting!

where do you find out about classes in your area e.g. aqua-natel and other stuff for pregnant people? ive looked on the net but cant find much :S

SpottyTeacakes · 17/07/2012 17:55

Equimum you're not alone on your scan date there's a couple of us waiting until then!

emilyeggs · 17/07/2012 18:02

My scan not till the 16 aug!!!!!! Sad bump still hiding again Sad maybe it just moved around a bit

Bubbless · 17/07/2012 18:03

equimum- IM ON THE 8TH TOOOOO! so is someone else... knotty possibly? your not alone :)

SpottyTeacakes · 17/07/2012 18:03

I am on the eighth

knottyhair · 17/07/2012 18:04

Equimum, another one waiting for 8th here!

Had 16wk check today and heard the heartbeat which was lovely. Still haven't seen my actual midwife yet though.

knottyhair · 17/07/2012 18:05

Sorry Bubbless, missed your post!

Stacks · 17/07/2012 18:27

I've not seen my midwife yet either, or had a consultant appointment. Apparently my midwife will sort it if she ever gets back from her holidays!

MyDaydream · 17/07/2012 18:35

My midwife gave me a leaflet with the antenatal class details on everything else I've found myself. Have a look on your local swimming pool website they'll have a timetable, its how I found out about aqua natal. Everything else I've just put the activity and my town in google. Aqua natal is the only thing that fits around my work schedule, I really fancied pregnancy yoga too though. I might start if I go on early maternity.

FriendofDorothy · 17/07/2012 19:16

Honey I wouldn't worry too much about the things you did before you found out you were pregnant. I work with people who use all sorts of drugs and drink loads throughout their pregnancy and by and large none of them have any problems!

ISpyPlumPie · 17/07/2012 19:17

We did NCT classes last time. It is expensive, but on the whole I think it was worth it. The main benefit was the group of friends I met. We used to meet up every week until we went back to work. Although it's less frequent now, we still keep in touch, and I found it so valuable seeing people regularly with similar aged DC in the early days.

The breastfeeding session was absoultely fantastic and I still put the fact I went from "lets see if I can get through the first few days" to actually weaning at 2 and half down to the advice we got there.

The other classes were useful too. There perhaps wasn't quite as much specific guidence about breathing techniques etc as I maybe expected but there was certainally more detail about everything than in the nhs ones. They also covered quite a bit about looking after a newborn and how your life will change which I thought was good as it is quite easy to get caught up completely on the birth and not think much beyond.

The nhs ones were free, and worth going to for a chance to see the materinty unit etc but were a totally different atmosphere - shorter sessions, just being given info without any real group discussions and everyone just stuck in couples and didn't really hang around to chat after.

Sorry - another essay Grin

NaomiRuth · 17/07/2012 19:28

Gosh, a lot has been happening! I don't keep up with it as much as everyone else.
Congratulations to those who've had scans, and got engaged!

I had a consultant appointment today, all was fine and I'm put back to low risk and back to the midwife. Very relieved. My scan isn't till 15th August, another late one.

I'm having the odd day feeling sick but getting better. I've found Spatone iron supplements have helped with tiredness, or it could just be second trimester....

Very excited as my lovely Aunty has got me an amazing EBay bundle - Moses basket, stand, blankets, sleeping bag, bath, towels, hats, mitts etc all for £16!! Can you believe it!!!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/07/2012 19:31

That's a bargain Naomi! I'm going to look on there for a new Moses basket now. Already have a stand though and will obv get a new mattress.

NaomiRuth · 17/07/2012 19:40

There are loads of Moses baskets. If you click on the location arrow you can order the results by proximity as many are collection only. My Aunty uses auctionstealer, which gives you 3 free bids per month and it bids in the last 10 seconds up to your limit. It worked for her!

I've found a secondhand cot on eBay, very tempted to bid... but should look for another deal nearer the time, as we're moving house in the Autumn and don't need extra stuff to move. I'd rather spend the money on a good mattress. Little Green Sheep do natural organic ones with no chemicals in, more pricey but they look really good.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/07/2012 19:44

Hmm none near me at the moment got plenty of time though!

Barbeasty · 17/07/2012 19:57

I'm jealous of all the aquanatal. I've found 2 classes within about 30 miles, and one is mid morning on a weekday, and I can't remember if the other is a morning or early afternoon but it's another weekday.

I've always worked on the basis that until at least 4 weeks the baby takes nothing from you so you won't have hurt it.

CODwidow · 17/07/2012 20:12

My mum bought my Moses basket from asda for £25 which I think is a bargain Grin

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 17/07/2012 20:39

I got my Moses basket with rocking stand and 2 sets of linen/ quilts etc for £20 off a local Facebook selling page!

Been to the pharmacy and got some cream for thrush, they'll only give me 1% cream and if that doesn't work then go back to docs. It's stopped the itching at least so hopefully it gets better with it!

I can't believe we're nearly halfway through!!!
