Well done valium eBay bargains are great.

My friend has kindly offered to lend me her daughters first car seat as we got rid of ours so that's saving us some money so we can afford the slightly nicer double buggy.

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 18:50

The only thing I NEED to buy is a car seat thankfully. Now I have the P&T I can sell my Silver Cross XT travel system. I never used the car seat from that in the car as it was not compatible. It is with our new car, but I will sell it as a bundle.

It was collection only, and I explained about my sore foot so could not collect it just yet, so her husband will deliver it next time he is passing. How kind.

YellowWellies · 17/07/2012 18:51

Valium congrats on the diagnosis - all the cool kids get avulsion fractures! Grin did the doc not mention that an important element of the treatment involves bargain shopping on ebay?

I'm in a bit of a mad nesting mode.... (have decided that the hallway and bathroom shelves both need a mad clean) hope it's not a sign of any early travel plans on behalf of the bellydweller...Confused. Cleaning is most unlike me, I'm the sort that only does it when expecting visitors...

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 18:53
Grin
DesperateHousewife21 · 17/07/2012 19:17

yellow I'd put that down to nesting, although maybe a tad early but you can never be too organised!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 17/07/2012 19:34

I know we dislike rain ladies but I need some on the south coast tomorrow, it's the schools last ditch attempt at sports day.
I know I sound like a bitter cow but the field is boggy so we've been asked to bring blankets to sit on as they can't provide seating, plus I'm meant to be sorting a picnic for 8 people, the thought of it all is making me want to weep, my bump is painful as hell tonight and I'm still dizzy.

I brought a grow bag today, all I need to get is a bouncy chair and a baby monitor then I'm set. Smile

capedcrusader25 · 17/07/2012 19:46

Yellow I've been similar, I think it's more an energy burst than nesting as such?? Just take it easy, I totally overdid it the weekend before last and paid for it the entire following week :(
Aaah sorry Titsalina I can't - my DP is in charge on Enrichment week at his school and as he's a PE teacher it has an Olympic focus which means he desperately needs dry weather! I understand though...and surely they can't expect you to sit on a flipping blanket with no back support for the entire duration?? Tell them no way!!!! Especially if bump is painful tonight Confused x

Brockle · 17/07/2012 19:46

I love my Tommee Tippee manual pump but I have bought a Medela Swing this time as I want to try and express more. I also love the Avent storage tubs. They sometimes have good deals on them and I have used them for everyting: breastmilk, purees and now we taken them with us on picnics with olives and dried fruit in. Brilliant!

Looking for a second hand Moby sling but the prices on ebay are not far away from the new price. I keep randomly bidding but think I need to put some more effort into it.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 17/07/2012 19:49

Ahh bugger, hmm maybe I can hope for localised rain?

capedcrusader25 · 17/07/2012 20:06

Lots of cushions/pillows definitely a must!! Make a little den of cushions and you be propped up like the Queen of Sheba or something :o I can absolutely hope for rain in that area as I'm nowhere near it so fingers crossed for you! Wink

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 20:13

Thawing of breast milk: take out of fridge night before use. Warm to body temperature prior to feed, NOT in microwave. Discard if not used within the hour.

Fresh keeps for up to a week in fridge apparently.

This is what they said 2years ago anyway

SwissArmyWife · 17/07/2012 20:28

On the weight gain front - I have no idea how much i've gained as i've never owned a set of scales in my life, is that bad?
I still fit in all of my clothes and not in maternity clothing yet but have definitely put on some weight.
Either way, I read on here a while back that apparently if you're over a certain weight they won't allow you to have a water birth? Is this true, and why? Does anybody know what this certain weight is? (Sorry for all the Q's but am desperate to have a water birth again)

Also concerning pillows, I have a normal full body pillow from Lidl (£9.99) and that does me, i'm fine sleeping on my sides (normally left, away from DP's gargling) and get dizzy if I lie on my back for too long, but it does make baby kick a lot!

Evilwater · 17/07/2012 20:31

As for the title of the thread, I still have loads to get. Infact the baby's room isnt even painted! The thing is work always gets in the way.

I finally see the midwife tomorrow, I was surposed to see her at 25 weeks (I'm 26 weeks) and the 28 for blood tests, 34, 36, 38, and then 40. Inbetween I have to have anti-d at 30 and 31 at the GP.

The only problem about tomorrow is I have no idea where the midwife is! Brilliant I get used to getting pregnant, and I have no fecking idea where to go!

Evil

NervousAt20 · 17/07/2012 20:45

Thanks valium

GTbaby · 17/07/2012 20:56

So tiered I'm already in bed. Thought I'd porter about with iPad. But after catching up on posts since lunch think I may just sleep instead.

Went for my wax today. Very sore lol. But did notice my leg hair wasn't as long as usual. Strange. Trying to decide if I give up the Hollywood style. But I could just about manage a trim last night and I don't think I can manage the natural look. Blush. Lol.

Ok falling asleep now. So night night. Hopefully won't be bk tonight!

tomatoplantproject · 17/07/2012 20:58

Marking my place on this ridiculously quick thread!

I have bought NOTHING for the baby yet. We've bought and ordered lots for the house though (even though it still a building site). We are due to move in September and only then can we buy anything. But we went to John Lewis and worked out the basics that we need and the mothers and my aunty are getting creative making things for the baby. Oh, and we have some hand me downs from friends. As long as the house is on time and the baby late all will be ok!!

Am in the hip pain club but coping and have physio lined up - I have no idea how you ladies do jobs that stand up all day or run around after little ones.

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 21:04

Not sure what the cut off weight is, but they need to be able to physically heave you out of the pool if you become unwell, pass out etc. seems fair enough. I would not want to drown.

Passmethecrisps · 17/07/2012 21:25

Ok, I have just signed my life away buy signing up for the mum and baby club. I figure I would like as much free stuff as I can get!

I can't see any mention on Boots of a free changing bag. Whatever, I can deal with junk mail if I get free things!

valium glad your foot isn't broken.

TheDetective · 17/07/2012 23:11

I am SO tired. I'll not get in to specifics, but I'm drowning in the tiredness, and am sick of never stopping at work at the minute which is adding to things!

DP's birthday tomorrow, so better get my face sorted with a smile, as I wouldn't want to ruin the day! Going to a comedy club tomorrow night, so that should help provided I don't fall asleep!

I am too far behind to catch up on the thread properly, but I have been reading sat on the loo in work Blush

DP is currently getting right on my nerves. He is on skype with his mates, playing some online game. And he sounds like a 15 year old kid, making stupid noises and shouting stupid catchphrases grrrrr. I just want to shout at him to shut up, but that would be rude!!

As far as it goes though, he's a decent bloke, and I have no real complaints, apart from his uselessness at seeing mess and dirt, the usual man qualities I guess! He does a lot for my DS though, gets up with him to let me have a lie in, takes him to school etc etc. Makes his tea. For a young guy, he's gonna make a good dad! Nothing is too much to ask of him.

Swiss What you need to do is this: send a letter/email to the head of midwifery at your hospital, your community midwife can give you the details, or ring the hospital switchboard. In the letter state that you wish to have a waterbirth, and that you are aware they may have an issue with this due to your 'clinical risk factors', however you intend to continue with your plans for waterbirth, and you would appreciate her putting an individualised care plan in place prior to your birth, so that there are no issues on the day. Discuss this with your community midwife first, she may be able to sort it for you first - some places don't have a limit on BMI, and some have a 30/35/40 guideline for using the pool.

Alternatively, if you are a confident gobby shite like me, you can just demand to go in the pool anyway. Which is what I am doing. :) Besides, its in my house! Who's gonna stop me!

I'm about to start making my birth plan soon. Now I'm 24 weeks, my focus is shifting more towards the birth, and life with a newborn! I might share it on here once its finished! I'm also making an iPod track list for DP to keep him busy sourcing the tracks and putting it together for me. Music means a lot to me, and I know it will help me keep calm and focused during labour. Can't wait to see what I come up with for the tracks!

Still no weight gain Hmm I was 94kg at booking, 88kg now (have been since 15 weeks). Going to ask for my BMI to be recalculated this week at my appointment, as it will go from 37 to 34 :) I'm getting concerned now, not at the lack of weight gain, quite happy with that, as was clearly overweight to begin with, so don't want much extra put on! But more that I might pile it on in a short space of time (which I did with DS) and my stretch marks will get even worse. I clearly have a decent bump now, not huge, but about the right size for 24 weeks with a 2nd baby! And the stretch marks on my tummy which are fine (well finer than the ones on my hips!) have just started showing up, as DS so lovingly pointed out this evening Hmm so clearly stretch marks aren't related to just weight gain, but the elasticity of the skin to stretch! So I don't want any extra weight if this is what I'm gonna get for it! My body was ruined first time, but had just begun to learn to love it again! It is terribly scarred, both from my c/s scar which is awful, and my stretch marks! Pffft.

Anyway, off to do some more eBay bargain hunting!

Hope your foot starts to behave soon Valium, sounds so painful :( Glad you got it looked out though, I was rather worried with what you had said!

TheDetective · 18/07/2012 01:58

Oh wow. My birth plan is 3 pages long. It contains the words 'I do not consent to' rather too frequently than makes me comfortable! Oh dear!

I won't share on here, as its too long, but if anyone wants to see it, am happy to share it!

Was thinking of putting it on the fb group in documents...??!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 18/07/2012 06:58

I would really like to see your birth plan. I haven't started mine yet and didn't do a great job of the others, mthough I am doubtful anyone read them anyway. My main focus is to try and avoid forceps, I suspect that my last rough as anything forceps delivery was because of allowing me to push too early instead of " labouring down", if that is the correct term.

SwissArmyWife · 18/07/2012 07:02

Detective Don't worry, I can be a gobby shite if I need to be, sometimes when I don't and so can DP so I've got him on my side too, but will definitely push the subject as much as I can with the midwives.
My DP also does a hell of a lot for my LO, and a lot round the house even if he puts things in the wrong places all the time so I can't complain either. Plus he plays guitar and last night when he got in from work told me he'd written me a song which made me smile. I'm a sucker for a guy with a guitar.

Definitely stick your birth plan on facebook, it might encourage me others to write theirs Wink

Lilliana · 18/07/2012 07:14

I would love to see your bith plans as I have no clue what to write. Atm mine is 'get baby out quickly and painlessly'.

Think we have all the big things organised now (although DH is adamant there is still loads to sort - not sure what though)

Thankfully we break up on Friday so I can sort the babys room out then as it needs painting etc. Can't wait to have it done.

I stood on the scales yesterday and have put on about 6lb in the last few weeks :( going to have to keep a better eye on what I'm eating and exercise more.

Thanks for all the expressing chat, really interesting as I want DH to be involved but want to BF if poss. DH has said he will put me on a unit in the parlour and not to worry about pumps Hmm (He's a dairy farmer in case you wondered!)

ValiumQueen · 18/07/2012 07:54

My birth plan:

Arrange a day an time that is convenient and fits in with childcare, around the 39 week mark.

Keep my legs crossed until then, and calmly pack everything I need.

Kiss children goodbye and calmly go to hospital. Wait patiently until theatre is free.

Lovely calm section, with skin to skin as soon as possible with my little baby.

Manage the post surgery pain in a dignified manner, using everything I learned after last time, staying two nights and having lots of visitors.

Ensure MIL does not visit for two weeks and when she does visit she stays elsewhere.

Enjoy my family.

Chunkychicken · 18/07/2012 07:58

I didn't really write a birth plan with DD (a few lines in the back of the pg book, in.the birth plan section) but it didn't matter because nobody asked/looked/seemed to care either way!! Angry I was quite vague about what I wanted though because a) I didn't know what to expect from my body because it was nothing I'd experienced before & b) hadn't done any research/looked at MN/read anything that wasn't in the Bounty/NHS literature. I knew instinctively how to deal with the contractions so laboured quite happily at home, but wasn't expecting it to be so quick, so hadn't anticipated the quick return to hospital & being made to labour on my back when I got there.

There is a form on the NHS website (Google birth plan NHS) which might be a good starting point. I'm going to write my plan twice - one with a homebirth in mind, & one if my placenta remains low(ish). Not sure if the position of the placenta will automatically require a c-section in its current position.
