candy i started at 8.5st with my first and managed to put on 3st during the pregnancy - and i'm only 5'2". It pretty much all came off during the first 9 months although as i'm far more prone to cake-baking these days, i'm now a bit fatter :) i suspect that come noevmber, we'll have more entertaining things to do with our time than scowl at scales on a regular basis!

NervousAt20 · 17/07/2012 14:56

I check the new thread and were 5 pages in Grin

dixie sounds really painful! Your doctor wouldnt have given you the tablets if he didn't think you needed them, hope they start working soon!

Welcome wannabe :) to our very quite, slow moving thread Grin

caped well done! We got the nursery painted and wall papered yday so very pleased and going to order all ye furniture tomorrow and of finances permit will order the carpet at the end of the month :) been selling some of my old textbooks on eBay so will have a look at curtains and stuff soon too :) can't wait to put her clothes in wardrobes and stuff too

RE midwife appointments, I had one at 8 weeks 16 weeks and have one next week at 25 weeks and not sure when after that, hope I get my normal one this time, didn't like the stand in last time

Glad you've had a better day evil

I brought a tommee tippee close to nature manual breast pump from the baby show in Birmingham and its like a starter pack, has the pump some bottles, breast pads and a cold strilser (I think it was cold) and paid I think £20 for it, I'm hoping to introduce bottle early on too so DP can do some feeds and feel involved

shelly wow your on a roll!! September and Christmas!

valium ouch! That sounds painful!!

So with everyone talking of freezing milk what's the guide lines on defrosting and feeding? I really no nothing !

I've been writing this hugeeeee post and catching up since 11 this morning but have been so busy with work but it's an extra shift so can't moan!

Welcome stateofplay

I put on about 3st with DD1 but lost it all quite quickly - not through trying, just through lack of time to eat, and having to be constantly on the go looking after a newborn and a dog. Ended up weighing less than I was pre-pregnancy - hoping for that again, but seeing as I am even older still, probably unlikely. Not helping myself by indulging in lots of home cooking and baking. Shortbread today. Egg custard tarts tomorrow.

Started clearing out the loft yesterday and today and found some old maternity stuff that I had forgotten about - result! Having to keep my loft activities hidden from DH as he would go mental but won't actually do the sorting out himself. Think he must reckon the whole house is run by a network of unpaid fairies. Oh, it is - me!

Dixiebell · 17/07/2012 15:09

Pumps : I used Medela swing electric pump, worked fine for me, stored 3-4 oz a time in special freezer bags, but ended up chucking most as DS would not take bottle! Gutting. Did take ages to do pumping, wouldn't fancy a manual pump unless as part of exercise routine!

Pillows: have dream genii but doesn't work for me. Try pillow between legs, another under bump, maybe one behind to stop rolling? But my hips hurt whatever. I found usually needed to resort to half sitting with stack of pillows behind me to ease pain. Can't do that until coccyx heals tho! Best tactic I found, clear DH into spare room so thrashing doesn't wake him, and take naps whenever possible (easier for those without DCs!)

Chunkychicken · 17/07/2012 15:10

Welcome state I too have a low lying placenta. Nobody has mentioned taking it easy to me, but have heard that 20% are deemed to be low at 20wks but less than 1% are by full term. Spoke to MW, she was unperturbed and just said 'be aware of bleeding, if you have any, don't let them fob you off, tell them your placenta is low lying'. Mine isn't covering the cervix, so more likely to move & not cause probs, but if it is, it may mean a c-section.

I'm just about to weigh myself as I'm curious. I think I out on more than 'ideal' first time, but lost it through BF etc. I don't tend to gain weight/need to diet, so it wasn't an issue, I just wore clothes that fit until I could get back in my 'normal' clothes :)

daisychain76 · 17/07/2012 15:10

Hi stateofplay.

shelly I like your style re getting organised! Went shopping yesterday and got DS and DD some Christmas presents in the sales, so feel like I'm getting there. Don't know if it is an age or gender thing, but I could buy all DDs presents in an hour, whereas DS I find really hard to buy for (rather like DH). Perhaps part of it is he's nearly 8 so not really into toys but not into music and things like that yet either. Also, really, really proud I have managed to get them both their winter coats already!

On another subject, don't know if anyone here lives near Sheffield, but if so, is there a decent baby shop anywhere in the centre? DH and I are spending a night there this weekend and I want to drag him to somewhere we can look at slings and carriers.

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 15:14

Did the loft clearing involve a ladder? If so, you bad bad girl! Did you not see (holby or casualty I forget) last week?

Well it seems I am a fraudster. No break. The radiographer was so suprised and took more pics as she was sure it was broken. Pictures get checked by dr and they will call me if anything found. One bit looked a funny shape but no obvious break, so she thinks it is an avulsion fracture, just hiding. At least it keeps my mother quiet!

Chunkychicken · 17/07/2012 15:16

7.7kg gained. So nearly 17lb. Not great, but on the pg app, it shows a steady ish gain throughout (after an initial first few wks drop) and hopefully should slow down & meet the 'top end normal' weight gain for my height/weight. But heh, if not, never mind!! I'll just have to walk more pushing a double buggy after #2 arrives Wink

Thechick · 17/07/2012 15:52

Hey all and welcome to the new ladies. I have my 20 wk scan tomo (at 22 weeks), it feels like its been a long time coming. I think I'm more excited than nervous but it also feels like its the end of something. I do want to know the sex but I kind of don't either. It really makes no difference to what we are going to buy or how we decorate the baby's room whether its a boy or a girl. I'm not into the pink for a girl stuff, so I'm not sure whether to bother finding out, this is a huge u turn for me.

On the subject of pumps, I much preferred the electric, the manual was too much hard work. It took too long, not sure if I was doing something wrong.

We haven't bought anything for this baby and I have nothing left from DS (he was born 13 yrs ago) and I don't feel an overwhelming need to get anything just yet. It will happen, the baby won't be without. Am I the only one who feels this way.

Passmethecrisps · 17/07/2012 16:11

afternoon peeps,

welcome state and wannabe

Well, what a fun filled morning for us. DH woke up in a 'we need to look at the finances' mood. Never fun. I ended up in tears as I was completely overwhelmed. In the end I womaned up and got the spreadsheets on the go. It turns out that theoretically, we should be absolutely fine. I honestly do not know where the money goes every month - our bank account has sprung a leak! The problem really is that we have only just got married and paid for the wedding ourselves. Much of it ended up on credit cards as we totally under-estimated what it would cost and just got carried away. Anyway, I don't really mind that as it is manageable and you only do it once hopefully.

I am the only wage earner in the house and with me being on maternity there will be no salary.

Anyway, in the end, it worked out that if we are frugal from this point on we should save enough to keep us afloat until I go back to work. It will be tight but we have done it before so will do it again. DH was very concerned for me - I am not really a crier. He has now decided to work from home today so I have a bit of company beyond the cat.

I bought a massive pillow yesterday on Amazon it is the 'PILLOW PLEASURE (TM) BIG C U MATERNITY SUPPORT PILLOW'. Looks massive unless they have used a tiny woman in the picture.

As for weight gain, I have put on a stone. I was 8st 8ibs at 5ft 2in and am now 9st 8ibs. I was a bit taken aback to see the scales but I don't really feel like I have put on that much so I am not concerned. I have naturally big hips and thighs and I think this is where the weight has gone. I don't massively overeat but I have taken absolutely no exercise since school ended in June. I am sure it will burn off.

Raining again so I can justifiably sit on the computer - I think I am hardwired to think you go outside to play when the sun is shining.

MrsSkinnyLegs · 17/07/2012 16:13

Thechick Me! Meeee!!! we haven't bought a scrap for the new baby yet. we've had lots of offers for some of the big practical stuff and we've still got the Jane from DD1 - it had been lent out to friends and is going strong still.

i agree. stuff will get got in its own time. the baby will not go without.

applepieinthesky · 17/07/2012 16:14

Welcome stateofplay and good luck for tomorrow thechick

I feel like crap today and phoned in sick for the first time since I've been pregnant. I'm just completely shattered and keep feeling really hot and dizzy. Phoned before I was due to start at 8.30 then went back to bed at 11 until 2 and feel like I could sleep some more now. wtf is wrong with me?

Also after feeling baby every day for a week I now haven't felt him for a couple of days. I'm still only 22 1/2 weeks though so maybe this is normal?

WaitingForMe · 17/07/2012 16:17

I sleep on a fleece-lined sleeping bag wrapped in a double duvet on top on the mattress. I've found that far better than cushions.

I mostly sleep in a kind of recovery position on my left hand side. Baby kicks me until I wake up if I roll onto my stomach so that's not an option.

applepieinthesky · 17/07/2012 16:20

I have been sleeping really well with a couple of big cushions from the chairs downstairs but no matter how much sleep I get lately it's not enough.

FatimaLovesBread · 17/07/2012 16:39

Valium This is the teddy I sleep with Grin He goes on holiday with me! I think I'm going to have to trade him in for a Dream Genii though.

Handed my Mat B1 form in and gave my date of starting mat leave today, seems very real and scary all of a sudden. It's actually happening Shock

Thanks for all the bottle and breast pump info. The bottles weve got so far are the Tommee Tippee closer to nature ones. Purely because I like the look of them and I think they look more nipple like. Not that my nipples look like that but I know they definitely don't look like the AVENT teats Grin I haven't really researched bottles yet, which is strange as I've spent hours researching pushchairs/car seats and everything else

I'm absolutely shattered today Sad

NervousAt20 · 17/07/2012 16:42

apple that was the same with me a week or two ago, I feel the little on one everyday but didn't feel nothing for a fewdays and by day 3 I was panicked but felt a big kick and been that way since :)

Thechick · 17/07/2012 16:54

Thanks Fatima, you just reminded me that I need to hand in mine.

My kicks are all over the place. Saw movement and DH got to feel LO this weekend for the first time. But I have been having quiet days every now and again.

capedcrusader25 · 17/07/2012 16:56

Glad you've been seen to valium! I remember with my break they sent me home after the x-ray saying I was fine. Then phoned me at home an hour later asking me to go back because it was broken after all! Brilliant stuff. Take it easy apple and rest up. I'm 23 weeks on thursday but last week was so tired, up until a couple of days ago I didn't feel baby all that much and sometimes all day. But if it's something worrying you phone the midwife. Peace of mind is invaluable :)

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 17:12

Great teddy fatima and he looks happy!

Not very encouraging caped

DD2 just fell asleep in her dinner. Woke her up, and she kept falling asleep inbetween mouthfuls. Had to give her an ice pop to wake her up. Bless!

Chunkychicken · 17/07/2012 17:15

I posted earlier about worrying over movements (22+1) but think baby has just shifted so feel it less, so maybe don't notice it, but its as frequent now I think. Maybe s/he is kicking the placenta??

Valium take it easy. Broken foot, toddler & pg - don't envy you!! Take care.

Chunkychicken · 17/07/2012 17:17

Closer to nature ones were on offer in Asda so we got those last time. Def good for the infrequent use we needed.

Thechick · 17/07/2012 17:29

MrsSkinny Glad I'm not the only one.

Omg do many posts to catch up in the few hours I was out!

I've just weighed myself I've put on v nearly a stone. I was only 8st to start with though so I'm not that concerned and we are over halfway now.

Had a nice day down the beach/ park with my friend who also had a 2 year old and the kids played really well it's a nice age now. She bought me a v cute pink top and pink bootees Grin can't wait to meet my little girl!

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 18:28

Oops. Just bought a practically new P&T off eBay. It was too good an offer to miss, and I need a second double for in the car, and it will sell on for more than I paid for it, and it will work as a single now for DD2 and for DS. And I got it with my pocket money, and I have a sore foot, and...and...and. Blush
