We aren't close to a name. DH keeps suggesting things but nothing seems right. I want something that isn't twee and that's a little bit different without being kooky. I'm sure we'll find something.

Chunkychicken · 27/07/2012 16:29

Lovely names. Eoin is on our list. Have nearly 50 girls names and around 30 boys on my list at the mo but really struggling to narrow them down. I live the rhythm of my DD's name, as well as the name itself, and I want this one to have the same sort of thing, which is much harder if its a girl (which DH thinks & I'm beginning to agree...) Does any of that make sense??!! Blush Been spending a lot of time on the baby names forum looking for inspiration. The trouble is, DH & I both have quite BIG families, with his patents both re-married, so names gradually become limited, because we want to avoid any family link rather than play favourites iykwim.

My favourites today are;
Lillian
Beatrice
Penelope
Elizabeth

Frederick
Timothy
Theodore
Zachary

I also have the problem that, each time I hear a nice name, I realise I already know a baby/toddler/child named that, with friends and similarly aged work colleagues all producing offspring, and being a teacher, there are no names left!!

applepieinthesky · 27/07/2012 16:37

Grayson is very American sounding but I like it. I?ve seen it mentioned quite a bit and have a feeling it?s going to be a lot more popular in the next few years.

Looks like we have settled on Cassius for our boy. We both love it and it?s the only boys name we could agree on. DP?s family all know but not telling mine until he?s here. I specifically told DP not to discuss names but he is just trying to make his family feel involved because they are so far away and we don?t get to see them much. Which is fair enough I suppose. My mum has had the excitement of coming to my scan with me, going baby shopping together and seeing me all the time but they haven?t had any of that.

Want to know DP?s dad?s response to the name? ?Why can?t you call him David or Tom?? Grin

ValiumQueen · 27/07/2012 16:45

Grayson is a possible as it is an anagram of my husbands name and the word son. I also like the shortening of Gray. No link to 50 shades obviously.

ValiumQueen · 27/07/2012 16:45

Mum suggested Derek today. I politely said no. I secretly love the name Nigel.

capedcrusader25 · 27/07/2012 16:46

Yeah I heard babies tend to go quiet when we're busy. She definitely moved somewhere for a couple of days though, I couldn't feel her at all :( I'm pretty sure the sudden activity of all the walking moved her around so then I could feel her again. Yay! Sorry to all who are having a rubbish time. There are very strong ladies on here who are brilliant at giving advice, making you feel better and just being generally great x

DesperateHousewife21 · 27/07/2012 16:55

Ooh my feet ache, have been to see my friend who lives 45 mins away, we took our two boys to the park then round bluewater. Got some beige coloured mat trousers and a stripy top from h&m, I'm really going to try and not buy anything else now!
Also got a dozen Krispy Kremes, they are DELICIOUS!

applepieinthesky · 27/07/2012 17:13

Krispy Kremes? We can?t get them round here. It?s a 70 mile drive if I want some Envy

Chunky I love Beatrice, Elizabeth and Frederick.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 27/07/2012 17:24

Oh dear my little Jonathan sounds positively dull compared to all your names Grin

ValiumQueen · 27/07/2012 17:27

Little Jonathan will probably be very grateful in years to come!

Chunkychicken · 27/07/2012 17:35

I like Jonathan BUT my Dad's name is John & my cousin (who's roughly my age & do have some contact with) is called Jonathan. It would go well with our surname too...Envy Why do families have to complicate things?!! :)

Chunkychicken · 27/07/2012 17:36

Half considered Franklin as DD's name is Eleanor - geddit??!! Grin

TitsalinaBumSquash · 27/07/2012 17:41

We didn't have a lot of choice DP is unreasonable enough to have the most difficult surname ever! I wanted Sebastian at first. Smile

Also John is the male equivalent of Jayne and my Mum was Jayne. Smile

Chunkychicken · 27/07/2012 17:47

I like Sebastian/en too but I have a mummy friend who's sons are Nathan & Sebastian, aged 2 & 1, so having a child so close in age with either of those names might seem a tad odd iyswim.

Also like Jane, but would probably use it as a middle name although DH & I both have 'J' middle names & DD has 'N'. Would it seem weird to have all our middle names the same letters, with the exception of DD??!!

This name thing is a minefield!!! Confused

TitsalinaBumSquash · 27/07/2012 17:59

We were going to have Jayne as a middle name if squirt was a girl.
We have both mine and DP's dad as middle names so he is stuck with 3 long names - Jonathan Kenneth Nicholas, the surname is only one syllable though thankfully.

Dixiebell · 27/07/2012 18:04

We're thinking of Teddy for our little wriggler. Probably officially Ted so he can use that when older if he wants. DS1 is Arlo. Other options on my list are Laurie, Monty, Jem, Casey (which I love but DH not keen)... It was going to be Betty for a girl (maybe next time..Hmm)

DesperateHousewife21 · 27/07/2012 18:25

I'd quite like her to have my middle name as her middle name which is Jasmin. As long as it goes with whatever first name we go for.

blonderthanred · 27/07/2012 18:27

I have a family name for each sex which will be the middle name. One is my grandmother's middle name (also mine and my mum's) and the other is a surname from my grandfather's side. It will be nice to feel that the baby has a name from my side as well as DH's surname. I don't know my father so had no attachment to my maiden name!

In excellent news, DH has passed his driving test. It was his third go and he was so despondent after the 2nd one I was worried about him and was so anxious this morning although I tried not to show it - I made him do pregnancy yoga with me to distract him! Well it obviously worked and he is delighted.

ValiumQueen · 27/07/2012 18:30

DD1 is Asha Olive Eldy and DD2 is Wilhelmina Hilda Gwendoline. DD2 drew the short straw.

Love Jasmin.

misslaughalot · 27/07/2012 18:40

We have a family name for a boy that runs in both of our families, but we really can't name our baby with it as with my DP's surname it ends up being the name of a famous tv character! It'll have to be a middle name instead. Of course if we're having a girl it won't matter!

Congrats to your DH Blonder, that's a big plus having him to drive you around now!

DH I've never had a Krispy Kreme, is this a big part of my life that's been missing?

SwissArmyWife · 27/07/2012 19:09

I'm not sure about our chosen name now, we were going to name him Ozzy but it was a joint decision and not my first choice. DD would have been Theodore if she was a boy, now I'm stuck and don't even know if it would be right of me to suggest a different name, but I'm tempted to have a look at some!

Krispy kremes imo are sickly and too expensive, chocolate cake on the other hand...

Elizadoesdolittle · 27/07/2012 19:32

We pretty much have a girls name sorted, boys names on the other hand are a bit of a nightmare. I love Elliott but DH point blank refused and I just can't find any other boys names I like nearly as much. I like Monty but my friends nephew is called that and I always associate that name with him. Sure we will find something in a last minute panic. I don't want to wait until baby is here to find a name. I'd rather know what they'll be called before they arrive.

Had a lovely child free lunch along the southbank today. I ate loads and treated myself to a glass of rose. Am still stuffed.

I haven't had a Krispy Kreme since I left work almost 3 years a go. We used to have them every Friday!

StuntNun · 27/07/2012 19:41

I've been lurking for a couple of days due to my work crisis so prepare for a mammoth post...

Swiss I'm sorry to hear about your relationship issues. Pregnancy is a testing time for any couple so IMHO any issues will become more pronounced. I hope you'll be able to look after your health through these troubling times.

Fatima how are the itchy feet now? Any better? Extreme itchiness in pg can be a sign of liver problems so go to your GP if the itchiness is severe.

I'm very interested in the washable nappies discussion especially if it could save me money. Once you take into account your washing machine costs does it still work out more economical that disposables? My washing and ironing is already a full-time job pre-baby so I don't think I would be able to wash nappies as well so I'll probably stick with disposables. I use Pampers for newborn then Lidl when they're a bit older.

Everyone seems to be picking unusual names for their sprogs! My name is unusual (it's the same as a Disney princess) but my boys' names are both in the top ten for Northern Ireland. My DH is desperate to call this third and final child James (his middle name) which I'm not that keen on but he has his heart set on it so I suggested James Andrew because we both went to St Andrews university. Having made the grand gesture of acceding to his request he now says he isn't sure and furthermore doesn't have any other suggestions! Angry I would like this baby to be named before he pops out as DS2 wasn't named until six weeks old and we ended up calling him Voldemort in the meantime. He did look like a Voldemort though.

Anyone else suffering from swollen ankles? Mine are sore and puffy by the time I get home from work but I didn't have any problems in my last two pregnancies, even right at the end.

I decided to drag DH to Mothercare to buy baby essentials at the weekend (teats, nail clippers, hairbrush, shampoo, cotton wool balls hate those things, nappies, wipes, breast pads, dummies just in case, nipple cream etc. etc.) I find out whether I'm redundant or not on Monday so I want to buy all the boring stuff now as I won't be in the mood when I'm in the dole queue at six months pregnant. Sad

Stunt I agree, and have tried explaining that to him, but he's stubborn. I'm just going to try and get on with things by myself for now and leave it in the hands of fate. I've got too much to deal with internally to be trying to persuade him of something he just won't do.
The Voldemort story made me giggle, that is brilliant.
Good luck for Monday, I really hope you don't end up being made redundant. :(

ValiumQueen · 27/07/2012 20:08

Voldemort. Fabulous. Puts on list.
