Glad you are recovering dixie.

Just got back from a night away in a hotel with DH while DCs were at their grandparents. It was sooo nice and relaxing. Best bit was the bigger-than-kingsize bed with a really firm mattress so I didn't wake up every single time I was trying to roll over with my bump. Really not looking forward to going back to a double bed with saggy mattress tonight!

FatimaLovesBread · 22/07/2012 21:50

dixie Hope you're feeling better. DH had the same before I met him. His was lower back (just at the top of his bum crack) He sympathises a lot. But then again he is a 'fat hairy man' Wink

Bump's been very active today, even tried to kick my iPhone off my belly.
We've been out to meet friends in the nice weather but my hayfever has been chronic Sad Think a trip to the GP is in order.

We've had two people we know of have babies this week. Both birth stories make me feel a bit uneasy.
One was 9 weeks early so completely unexpected, the baby was a v good weight though so all is ok. It scares me that we may not have as much time to prepare as we think though.
The other one had a 90 hour labour Shock followed by forceps delivery. I'm cringing a bit at that. I've told DH if it's dragging on that long then I want a C-section. Smile

We've got the consultant appointment on Wedsnesday so i still need to prepare some questions for that. Hopefully the nursery decorating will be finished this week too

Catbag · 22/07/2012 22:05

90 hours?! That's awful. My first, and longest labour, was six and a half hours. My youngest put in an appearance after two and a half. That said, contracting that hard in that time frame is quite painful :s

GTbaby · 22/07/2012 22:22

90hours! Wtf. Think I want to run and hide Sad.

Dixiebell · 22/07/2012 22:37

Yeah that's where mine is fatima. Nurse been to change dressing, she said wound is 4cm wide and 3cm deep Shock. Gonna take some time to heal I reckon...!

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/07/2012 06:20

90?! That must have been v tough, did she have an epidural?

My first was 7 hours so thinking this next one will be fairly quick.

StuntNun · 23/07/2012 07:21

Today I will start shopping for the wain by buying this change table www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Westbury-Changing-Unit---Antique-Pine/219804,default,pd.html?cm_sp=ProductFeatures--Category%2520landing--Mothercare%2520Westbury%2520Changing%2520Unit%2520-%2520Antique%2520Pine&q=westbury&q=westbury since the slipped disc ain't going away.

I'm going to try this swaddle www.gro-store.co.uk/gro-swaddle/little-pop-swaddle.html to see if baby likes it, and this travel gro-bag www.gro-store.co.uk/travel-grobags-and-accessories/safari-so-good-by-grobag.html looks snug and really handy to put LO in the car seat in.

Best wishes to Dixie and Valium with your recoveries and anyone else who is poorly. I hope you're getting pampered.

Anyone got a recommendation for a raised toilet seat? It is ok going down, but getting up it feels like the bottom of my bump is ripping as I have to keep my leg straight. Grr!

horseylady · 23/07/2012 08:31

He's nearly under my ribs!!! I feel huge yesterday both times we walked I really felt like I was carrying him!!

Woke stupidly early freaking out about labour/the rest of my life!!! Everything just seems to be growing very fast!! 26 weeks this weeks. Only 14 left!!!! Omg??!!!!

horseylady · 23/07/2012 08:34

Vallium the hospital or community care may be able to help? Mother in law needed one when she lived with us had they not taken it back I'd have said you could have it!! We still have the chair cushion but one of the cats has it as a bed?! Not sure when that happened lol

Chunkychicken · 23/07/2012 09:12

Just got an email from the company that makes this Revelo Kid Seat has emailed to say it IS compatible with my Britax buggy. Which means I can keep the travel system I spent DAYS researching & hours arguing with DH over & use it with DC#2, and not worry that baby won't be parent-facing (which was a major factor in my original purchase) and get a cheap double buggy for the times its necessary. Think the Graco one in Argos gets good reviews & can be bought for £120 online it seems.

Valium ouch!! Can't make any recommendations but can you ask for advice as horsey said?

My DD has decided she wants the Fisher Price Ducky potty at £33ish!! Shock Worse though, is that it isn't in our local Argos & I don't know where else I can get it today. I want to start potty training asap so that when DD stays at Granny & Grandad's house nxt wk so we can go to watch some Olympic hockey, I know whether we are on our way or whether we should wait a while iyswim. I still don't have broadband so can't order it online even if I wanted to!!

Chunkychicken · 23/07/2012 09:17

Was also thinking it would be useful to have this Baby Hoody for the winter/early weeks when all baby is wearing is a babygro, so we can literally wrap & go, to take DD to play groups etc. As long as the babygro is relatively vom & poo free, nobody else will know that s/he has slept in it!!

Chunkychicken · 23/07/2012 09:18

Think I'll get the red-lined spotty one, as my pram is red & the car seat is black. And those colours suit a boy or girl.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/07/2012 09:18

Morning :)

You have no idea how much I enjoyed not waking for the school run this morning

Just put the Roomba on to do while the kids get dressed, they haven't even has breakfast yet! Shock

My mission today is laundry, mainly getting all the clean stuff away and washing the tons of dirty stuff and I have a blood test.

Iheartpasties · 23/07/2012 10:02

dixie poor you, fingers crossed you heal up well and before the birth.

I cannot imagine a 90 hours labour, your poor friend fatima, I had a precipitous birth so I am imagining another one.

applepieinthesky · 23/07/2012 10:42

90 hours? Shock Not sure I want to hear that!

My friend had a baby last Thursday night having been in hospital since Monday and several failed attempts of induced labour. He was finally born by c-section weighing 10lb 2oz! She?s only a size 8-10 as well so no wonder he wouldn?t come out.

DebussyHead · 23/07/2012 13:02

90 hours?!!! [faints]

My first labour was 38 hours which was pretty horrendous resulting in inductions and narrowly avoiding an emergency c-section- I was being prepped for theatre when a different consultant came in and said she would try the kiwi ventouse and that worked. Had been pushing for 2 hours though so baby was distressed and had to be whisked away when she came out.

Really hoping this time is MUCH quicker and I progress better.

Chunkychicken · 23/07/2012 13:57

As someone who was lucky enough to have a 12hr from-show-to-baby labour, with maybe half of it with regular contractions, & maybe 4hrs active labour, I cannot even begin to imagine how you do that!! However, surely that's not active labour is it??!! I mean, you wouldn't be left for 90hrs at 4+cm in.hospital surely??

Think 2nd & subsequent babies/labours are usually quicker (although realise that saying that on any childbirth thread would probably have me running for cover & women hurl numerous examples of exceptions to the rule...) hence my wanting a homebirth. Quickish labours run in my family though.

ValiumQueen · 23/07/2012 14:50

It would not be 90 hours of active labour. No mother or baby could cope worth that surely? I was in hospital for 4 days before my baby was born as I was induced, and from first pessary it was about that long, but I was only in active labour for 14 hours.

ValiumQueen · 23/07/2012 14:52

What are the exact definitions of labour anyway? I have two kids, but have clearly blocked anything to do with labour out of my mind.

ValiumQueen · 23/07/2012 14:56

From what I can tell labour is the start of painful contractions which lead to the opening of the cervix. I could not cope with 90 hours of that.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/07/2012 15:19

Does anyone have any plans to drink Raspberry leaf tea or take the capsules? Obviously not now but if you do when will you be starting?

Also (tmi) is anyone going to do perineum (sp?) massage to try and avoid tearing? If so again, when do you plan to start?

I'm struggling to remember to cream up my bump everyday atm let alone anything else! Smile

Brockle · 23/07/2012 15:45

I will be drinking the raspberry leaf tea. I did with both my two DC's but I don't think you should take it before 34 weeks. Never bothered with the perineum massage. I have a hard enough time remembering to do my pelvic floor exercises! On the tea front it is a good way not to drink caffeine. I built it up so started with a cup a day for a week or so and buy the end I think three cups or four.

DS1's sports day today. Weird to think that both my DS's will be at the same sports day next year and I will be pushing DS3 about!

applepieinthesky · 23/07/2012 15:51

What's this about raspberry leaf tea?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/07/2012 15:58

It's supposed to tone the uterus ready for labour as far as I know!

I can't actually wait to legitimately get my birthing ball out, it's so comfortable for my hips but I feel a bit silly doing it at this stage. Blush

I have given Jr his own cupboard today, apart from a couple of pairs of trousers (which I think MIL is getting) and the essentials (nappies/wipes) we're all shopped out. Still need to start car shopping though (I hate car shopping)

My bump has gone quite flabby this past couple days I think he's hanging out at back down the bottom. When it returns to its former glory I'll post a piccy on the FB group. Grin
