Had my scan and I'm team blue. Can't believe it, was so sure it would be a girl. Have to have another scan at 28 wks because of a growth thing they saw at the 12 wk scan, (and disnt tell me about) but the sonographer wasn't worried due to the 20 wk results being all normal.

Peaky1 · 18/07/2012 14:18

Yellow - my friend recommended Ina May's guide to childbirth (Ina May Gaskin) and I have just finished it (on hols in Majorca). Everyone's different but it was a great read for me as a first time mum. I was shitting myself about pain and problems and everything beforehand and now I feel much calmer and able to make clearer decisions. The first half of the book is all positive birth stories from real mums (to counterbalance the inevitable load of horror stories we hear) and the second half is advice about birthing. It basically champions midwifery led care compared to hospital led care but I think it's simply a very open, honest and positive book. Im much less frightened about pain and thd unexpected now. She also wrote Spiritual Midwifery, which I haven't read yet but my lovely midwife recommended it to me on my very first appointment... perhaps because I looked like a rabbit in headlights!

OMG the cravings. I was craving cucumber on Monday which was easily satisfied but now I HAVE TO HAVE a Subway veggie delite. I can't stop thinking about it but the nearest Subway is seven miles away so I can't see my boss letting me go get one, I already had lunch so I shouldn't even be hungry. I'm eating an apple but it's just not doing it for me Sad

Anyone else having cravings?

Congrats on your boy Chick! Grin x

Just needed to come on to rant for a moment, my purse was stolen 2 weeks ago (in waitrose of all places) and they spent money on a card (which I got back, but it was hassle to have to replace all of my credit/debit cards etc) and then today someone tried to steal my card at a bank machine by using one of those cover things that keeps the card inside and hooks it out when you peal it off - I only got my card back because the helpful men in the petrol station realised what had happened and pealed off the extra plastic -releasing my card. The most annoying thing is the thief actually talked to me pretending to be helpful and saying maybe if I put my pin in again it would spit it out -I thought it seemed suss and reading on a scams website since I came home apparently its a well known scam! anyway - card cancelled just incase it was copied now, so another 7 days without a debit card - grrrrr.
Stop picking on me when I am obviously pregnant! I've never had anything stolen in my life before and now twice in 2 weeks - it feels a bit personal.

ValiumQueen · 18/07/2012 15:06

Gosh. I was unaware that could happen with cashpoints. How horrid!

yw sorry not to answer yesterday. Had a very busy day.
I am a newspaper designer. It's. Very high pressure at times, deadlines long hours and shift work.
It has it's advantages. No long projects, each day starts again with a new deadline. However no matter what the problems are we have to get a paper out everyday!!
I've been doing it for more than 12 years.
Now they want to make a hub for all titles to be done by our one team from the title I work for. It's only 20% of each title but still massive, lots of differnt deadlines depending on the title. 54 editors all wanting their work right now ect. Editors are tough by nature and many of them actually insane, some geniuses!

mrswee · 18/07/2012 15:39

I'm not sure I should even be posting that now I think of it! Maybe a bit tmi!

ValiumQueen · 18/07/2012 15:45

You can report your post and ask HQ to delete if you want. Sounds like an exciting job though! You must be very clever.

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/07/2012 16:13

chick congrats on the boy!!

ditsy sorry to hear about your cards, it's make me feel sick if my purse was stolen.

Chunkychicken · 18/07/2012 16:26

chick Congrats

That sucks ditsy

Lots track of who else is having a shit time but

Happy that I bought some nice trousers in DP today & a nice dress in the mothercare sale.

Bumped into a lady at toddler grp who has the same pram as me with a particular buggy board, so that solves my to double or not to double issue. Will continue using my current pram with the buggy board & buy a cheapy double if absolutely necessary.

Childcare for DD after #2; as my sister looks after my DD 2 days a wk, I may ask her to still have her for (at least) a morning every wk, as my nephew will be at school, so DD has a bit of routine but it won't put out my sis & won't cost us loads!!

YellowWellies · 18/07/2012 16:42

Ahhh MrsWee my sister was a newspaper subeditor before becoming a SAHM so I understand it's a stressful world for sure - especially as the industry seems to be in semi-terminal consolidation and downsizing mode. That new role sounds like a recipe for a stressful job - if it were me I think I would be inclined to give it a bash though, as it's often the things we don't do that we regret? And if pregnancy issues get in the way, really they can't do much about it. (though I know my sisters' employers were absolute arses about her maternity leave and appointments and stuff so I know that whilst the law says one thing, the old boys journalism club often does something totally different). If it's that or redundancy, then I'd say you're better to go for it, and if pregnancy issues get in the way - they make having a healthy pregnancy difficult for you - then you push for constructive dismissal (which would probably net you more £ than a redundancy payment anyway?).

I'm sure you can do it - you sound a pretty inspiring type! Hope you're feeling more positive.

StuntNun · 18/07/2012 17:02

Got sub. Left work early and am sat in car at the petrol station greedily stuffing my face! Now I know why husbands traditionally get sent out to buy food for pregnant wives in the middle of the night. The cravings will not be denied!

Can I have another one? Grin

capedcrusader25 · 18/07/2012 17:22

Have another one Wink You have my permission! :o

TheDetective · 18/07/2012 17:24

Course you can Stunt!!

My cravings disappeared a few weeks ago! How rude!!

Gutted! Was enjoying all the fresh foods! Now I just never know what I want!

I'm going to have a mini rant if that is okay?! DP's friends are selfish inconsiderate twats! Last year on his 21st we went to watch Harry Potter in the imax in Manchester, we bought Gallery tickets so we could have big comfy chairs, free popcorn/drinks/nachos etc. Got there and found that his friends had bought no ID so they were refused entry. Ended up having to re-buy tickets and go in the standard seats. Not that special for your 21st, right?

So, this year, we are going to a comedy club. It requires ID as it is for over 18's, obviously. His mate text him earlier and said can he use an out of date passport for ID. Um, no (and we rang and checked with the venue to make sure!!). So now his mate isn't coming as I have said he isn't ruining this year like last and causing us to be turned away. I said he could come but if he got turned away there was no way we were going back home, so he would have to get the train home! He is the same age as DP, but both DP and him look relatively young, and I look even younger than them. When I get my ID out I get a lot of shocked faces and disbelieving comments so I would never chance it and not have ID. After last year, surely to god he would maybe have considered this BEFORE the day of his birthday...

Oh well. Off to get dressed up!

ValiumQueen · 18/07/2012 17:39

I would hate to see your major rant detective if that is a mini one Grin seems fair enough though. Hope you have a good time despite his twatty friends.

ValiumQueen · 18/07/2012 17:40

I was asked for ID when I was 34 - made my day!

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/07/2012 17:43

I could do with a subway now!

I've got fish and chips in the oven tonight with apple crumble for pudding so it's not all bad Grin

I've got weird ears, they feel muffled like they need to pop and I keep swallowing and 'popping' them but it won't go away it's really annoying.

On a good note though baby is kicking away good and proper, much higher up now too so she must have shifted position at last!

StuntNun · 18/07/2012 17:55

Lol Valium it does cheer you up doesn't it. How's the ankle?

OP posts:
MissMummy1 · 18/07/2012 18:10

My other half is 35 and quite regularly gets asked for ID while I (who am much younger than him and often the one buying) does not! Great feeling.

The weather with us is really crappy today and loads of the roads around here are flooded, including a train coming off the tracks 3 miles away Shock ! I let DH take the car to work as it's my day off and I was meant to start packing the apartment up... In reality all I've achieved today is a shower, one load of washing and 4 episodes of greys anatomy. Oops..

Re cravings, there's loads of things I've totally gone off. Craving rhubarb, rowntrees fruit pastilles (both tesco and coop own brand ones made me sick) and kfc (i normally hate all junk food!). I really miss seafood - DH brought lobster home yesterday that he'd dived for during his lunch hour, totally forgetting i cant eat it. Grr, he felt so bad he's now promised me grilled lobster wih garlic butter and 'chippy chips' the first night we get home after having junior (doubt we'll want to cook/eat anything so extravagant, but it's the thought that counts right?!)

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/07/2012 18:38

detective are u on the nov fb group?

daisychain76 · 18/07/2012 18:41

I am craving bannoffee pie, and have been for weeks, but at the same time I've eaten so much of it, I slightly feel sick at the thought...odd!

Congrats on your little boy thechick.

Really pleased today, after loads of to-ing and fro-ing finally agreed some compensation with the bank for cancelling all our direct debits on our current account. Gives me enough to buy a moses basket, sling, reusable nappies, bouncy chair (the only things I need) and have enough left for doing some nice things with DCs in the holidays. Must complain more often....

SwissArmyWife · 18/07/2012 19:45

Congrats Chick :) Welcome to team blue!

Peaky I own the Spiritual Midwifery book, my mum gave it to me. She said it was the only book she read when pregnant, and had her three children at home (first was actually delivered by a friend!) with no pain relief. I then went on to have my water birth with gas and air, because that book really helped to put me in the right frame of mind. (of course it wasn't JUST the book, but ykwim)
There are some lovely stories in there and some great tips too.

As for cravings, mine seems to be ginsters cheddar and onion slices, and chocolate. Chocolate anything.
