I think this is the first time I've ever started a brooking thread! Shock

There is a risk of the baby taking its first breath underwater, but only if you first stick its head out of the water. Or so I read somewhere recently. The midwife OFC is trained not to let you put your half born baby's head out of the water. I find it hard to imagine what position you'd be in in the pool to let that happen though :)

I have a very wriggly bump today/this evening. He has noticeably less room these days. I'm also really tired, but noticed this morning that I must be grinding my teeth or something over night. I've cut the insides of both cheeks like I've been chewing on them. Anyone have any ideas why, or how I can maybe stop?

itsMYNutella · 04/10/2012 20:20

Stacks can you now help me to scrub clean my mind?! I am chuckling away imagining some poor labouring woman manoeuvring herself round in the bath to pop the babies head out of the water...
Perhaps fluff you can do a handstand if you're worried? :o Sorry, I am intrigued by your question though and the answers because I hadn't thought about it but I guess there could be a delay between head and the rest....

Stacks about the teeth - DP sometimes does this (when realllly stressed) and has a special gumshield thingy.... made by the dentist so it wont slip off.. can't think of the bloomin name! retainer! Aha! Fighting against preggo brain... anyway, sorry it's not an instant problem solver, but it shouldn't take a dentist long to sort out. HTH

itsMYNutella · 04/10/2012 20:21

duh baby's head.... not babies! That would be scary!!! Damn you preggo brain!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 04/10/2012 20:43

I do that when stressed too stacks and also buy copious amounts of yarn I don't really need and although I've never tried gumshields, a friend of mine swears by them.

That's really interesting about the out of water thing - I don't think I'm acrobatic enough though!

Have had a moderately hot curry tonight... Thinking of jumping my husband tomorrow and then sending him out to buy me a pineapple, despite not even being due til Saturday! I've loved being pregnant and I never envisaged myself getting impatient but I've had enough now!!

Right, if anyone is interested I have a size 18, Jojo Maman Bebe maternity coat up for grabs. It is a black, double breasted sort of affair. I think maybe just-below-bottom to mid-thigh length, woollen material. Smart enough for work or I wore it with jeans etc all last winter and it looked casual enough for that too.

I think I paid £75 or something for it last year.

If anyone is interested, give me a shout and I can email you some pics.

Brooking for some sneezing to be going on soon.

whimsicalname · 05/10/2012 03:31

OH MY GOODNESS. Deep fried battered gherkins with jalapeno mayo. I tell you, I'm having gaviscon for pudding.

clickingtock · 05/10/2012 08:37

I think your pudding should have been your starter Whims.

DS wouldn't be with us today defying me and being uncharacteristically clingy if there'd been an issue with water births. The placenta and umbilical cord do all the work right until they get air in their lungs. (I only had the umb cord cut when it had stopped pulsating. Sorry tMI.) The water in the birthpool is rather like amniotic fluid to the babies so they don't get the instinct to breathe. The MW will guide you though. Mine had to remind me to pick him up out of the water once he'd been born because I was so amazed to see him I wasn't thinking straight. He also had his cord around his neck but this didn't interrupt the birthpool process or anything...

Cakes then Fluff as sneeze order is my bet and I put money on Little having a girl... Grin

GenericDietCola · 05/10/2012 08:46

Biscuits, the coat sounds lovely but my sister is lending me a coat - hurrah! Sure someone else will snap it up though. How are your lovely DSs?

Whim that sounds AWESOME.

Tock what am I having?

Come on Cakes and Fluffy - get sneezing! We need some snuggles!

Got physio appointment for week after next - hurrah! My back is more painful than ever. I can hardly walk and I'm not exaggerating. Wondering about getting a walking stick to take on holiday otherwise our days out will be rubbish. Anyway, at least we'll be on hols and all of us together, which is the best thing. Happy Friday, brookers.

GenericDietCola · 05/10/2012 08:46

Ooh and Little I am brooking for a lovely scan!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 05/10/2012 08:56

That's right, we have a proper scan-a-thon today don't we? Both little and olives at 3pm?

Thanks tock - not tmi at all, delayed cord clamping is on my wishlist too - glad to hear it's still an option :)

Oh gen that sounds awful! I can't suggest anything helpful but you really have my sympathies :(

GenericDietCola · 05/10/2012 09:11

Ooh yes, how could I forget Olives! Happy scanning to you too!

Yeah Fluffy, Cakes is very quiet - wonder if she's already had her little 'un!

clickingtock · 05/10/2012 09:52

Gen and Olives are getting boys I think though I'm less confident about Gen - you might have another DD...

Olives - good luck today, v exciting. And good luck to Little of course.

What prizes do I win if I get the sex prediction right? (I started a thread in pg on this about your toddler knowing - some great spooky anecdotes...)

I think Cakes is deffo snuggling. You soon, Fluffter. Get on with that curry, shagathon and pineapple.

Gen - sorry about your back. How tricky for you. I have this weird, quite shocking pain in my left chest just above heart, but I think it is just a pulled muscle. Fortunately I am working today not on MN at all naturally so not wrestling with my defiant DS.

Waves to my mentor Biscuits - your boys at university yet? Grin

GenericDietCola · 05/10/2012 11:47

Tock a lot of people have 'told' me it's a boy this time, but that seems to be based on the fact that I am massive (which I just can't believe has anything to do with gender of the baby and more to do with cake/lax abdominal muscles). I just looked up your thread re toddler gender prediction - very interesting! I keep asking DD if it's a boy or a girl, but she changes her mind regularly. Before my dsis knew she was preg with DS2, her DS1 told her she had a baby in her tummy. Spooky.

Your pain sounds very worrying - could be muscular, but always best to be cautious with chest pain.

clickingtock · 05/10/2012 12:23

Yes, people love to tell you don't they Gen? Smile I get the 'neat, out-front bump/can't tell you're pg from behind' comments quite a lot. So I must be having a boy (which I probably am). My placenta is in a different place this time (though still fine) - does this have any bearing?! It is amazing how some toddlers seem really tuned in. My DS kept insisting that I was having a girl for a few months but has since changed his mind - mostly to do with me trying to mitigate any disappointment since I'm pretty sure we're all in for another DS. Romantically I think of myself as a haggard old bit of baggage surrounded by handsome sons and their equally gorgeous friends so I am really quite happy about this. Also happy to have their girlfriends dropping in but not actually living with the clobber that seems to come with teenage girls. Other than that I think each sex and combination of sexes has pros and cons and it really doesn't matter either way.

I think massive bump is to do with lots of good amniotic fluid and maybe the odd cake/hoooooge bar of chocco, not the sex, you're right.

It is q a shocking chest pain but also seems to involve my shoulder-blade area so trying not to feel panicky. I hope you are getting a lot of support re' your back/walking etc.

GenericDietCola · 05/10/2012 13:19

Tock you are spot on re the cake/chocolate, but I haven't been too bad (although I was a bit overweight anyway, so I was never going to be 'neat'). I love your vision of your gorgeous boys and their friends!

Sounds like muscle pain, but please take it easy.

I have bought a walking stick! I decided that might be wise for our holiday as I really am struggling to walk and in terrific pain when I do, so I thought anything to help me walk around on holiday would be good, as we will need to do days out and fun things for DD's sake!

clickingtock · 05/10/2012 13:54

Good plan, lady. I used to do a lot of trekking/proper big walks (like marathon length) and used two sticks like ski sticks. Made a world of difference. So hope your back pain doesn't interfere with your hols. (Ps - I have eaten more crap - but kept up the good basics, lots of fruit and fibre - with this pg. I think you just feel a bit more relaxed or lazy about everything second time round...) xxx

GenericDietCola · 05/10/2012 15:02

I have been eating loads of fruit and veg too. Basically my diet is very healthy, but I have a treat i.e. a chocolate bar or cake most days. I am really into tomatoes at the moment.

Oh I used to love walking, proper countryside all day walks. Hopefully we will get out and do some when DC2 is still small enough for a sling/backpack as I think DD would be up to some proper walking now. I'm sure the hols will be brill and just what we all need!

clickingtock · 05/10/2012 15:29

Those were the days, eh Gen. DS seems a way off being able to concentrate for long enough to stay walking in an agreed direction, but beyond much buggy time too. Sad

BTW Brookers - made marmaluffins at Tock Towers yesterday. Standard muffin recipe with a gloop of marmalade whirled in. Disgusting or delicious - your vote?

TheLittleFriend · 05/10/2012 16:53

Hi all, just a quick one from me to say all was fine at the scan and........ It's a boy! We've not told dd yet, but I'm sure she'll get used to the idea. I'm feeling very happy though Smile

Brooking all good for olives too Smile

BartletForTeamGB · 05/10/2012 17:30

Gen and Tock - we're all doing well. Not quite at uni but I can imagine it won't feel that far away! Ds2 is. 7 mths next week. Can you believe it? He has 6 teeth through too Shock

Looking forward to Cakes and any other newbies coming across, and of course any preggo (or non preggo) visitors who want to acclimatise their babies to the postgrad room before the birth Smile
