I think this is the first time I've ever started a brooking thread! Shock

Aw, tock your DS is so lovely! Went all mushy when I read that Grin. Congrats on tri 3 - must check how many weeks I am now, I'm rubbish at remembering. Must point out re: shouting at toddler - sometimes it's necessary to raise your voice, don't feel bad! You sound like you're dealing with him just right, I think it's our role as mothers to feel guilty about the little things. A lot of my behaviour is also a direct response to the way I was parented - I was terrified of my DM as a child, despite loving her deeply. I would hate for DD to feel the same way. Admittedly she could be (and still can be!) a very scary woman... Ah well, parenting was different back then long long ago

fluff no the doc didn't call me back - he was called away on an emergency apparently. I assume personal as our GP's surgery doesn't do home visits or emergency stuff at all. I'm waiting to hear from them now.

cakes good luck, hope everything starts soon. I remember the last few weeks were very uncomfortable for me, I hope you're managing ok.

Gen oh no! Can you get a referral for an osteopath or something?

ScrambledSmegs · 02/10/2012 10:59

Gah! Posted too soon.

Right. Any tips for turning baby? I'm pretty sure it's still breech and it's really uncomfortable! I'm using my ball loads, doing yoga (downward dog anyone?!) and trying to ensure that my clothes aren't too tight around my tummy. NOTHING is working. I'm 32 weeks so time is on my side, but I would much prefer baby to be head down asap, as it's really uncomfortable this way round!

Acupuncture is a possibility, but I need to find someone who really knows what they're doing. Going to ask my midwife to recommend someone as she seems to be quite au fait with this sort of thing.

clickingtock · 02/10/2012 12:20

They reckoned DS was breech, Smeg, which did send me into a panic. I tried quite a laughable bag of tricks: lots of swimming and underwater handstands (at 38wks!); bags of frozen peas on the top of the bump, torchlight at the bottom Confused; visualisation (including drawing the baby in the womb, settled in the perfect position, engaging - though not actually onto my bump as was recommended!); ringing NCT helpline and rambling... I did also have acupuncture which I suspect is the most sensible option. You really need a TCM (preferably trained in China) person who can give you moxybustion as well as needles. This is what makes the real difference and I could tell that it made DS respond/wriggle. A late scan showed that he was in the perfect position and I calmed down; I hadn't felt him turn during the 2 weeks of panic. I slightly suspect that the MW got it wrong! DS was also overdue so it may be that your baby is thinking about biding her time.

34 weeks is the time when they might start engaging, but also a good time to have weekly acupuncture in prep for a really good birth; if you're a believer in acu that is. I swear that it gave me the calm, manageable HB I dreamt of and will be packing myself back there November.

Thanks for your kinds words about DS. You are SO right - it's about being terrified of becoming one's DMa. Mine was a dragon (and is still called the dragon by my nieces, which makes me feel defensive on DMa's behalf as well as amused as she is also terribly kind and caring). I can see the genetic/imprinted dragon curled inside me, waiting to lunge out at DS. But you're right - we're doing our best and using the approved tricks of the trade at least 80% of the time. It's a bit sad to say it, but threatening to take away his privileges, especially TV time, really sobers him up. This feels preferable to losing tempers though.

Cakes - keep going strong and tell your DH clean the skirting boards while he's waiting. This is the usual advice to pg mothers who want to bring on a birth... Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 02/10/2012 12:54

I have a WC jab appointment! Turns out it was probably just the dimwit receptionist I spoke to yesterday. I called up about it again today, spoke to another receptionist who said 'oh yes, the nurse is dealing with those, how many weeks are you?'! I'm booked in for the first free appointment next week, nurse is only part-time so gets booked up fast.

Poor GP, being bothered for absolutely nothing! Glad he didn't call me.

Thanks for the advice tock, am going to do some research into acupuncture now. Hadn't thought of frozen peas, although was doing the torch thing. Didn't like to mention that as everyone thinks I'm enough of a nutter already Grin

Oh, I also have another appointment with the GP to find out if I still have a UTI/strep B. They'll put me on some other antibiotics if not. Love how they're being so gung-ho about it, GP's attitude is 'You want a HB, we'll get you that HB'!

clickingtock · 02/10/2012 14:54

Ah well Smegs, I think everyone knows for sure I'm a nutter so I don't have to pretend otherwise. Smile You are deffo getting your money's worth out of your GP at the mo. Smile

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 02/10/2012 15:25

Oh cakes you have a lovely neat bump! And in the nursery as well, awww :)
Mine is scarily huge, I'm honestly worried I'm going to have to try and pop out a 12lb baby Confused - I put a photo on FB yesterday. I am truly gargantuan.

It's lovely that your DH is so excited. I've not had the "have you had it" messages, but I do get constant "any twinges?" texts. My DH is on night shifts at the moment and he actually phoned me last night at 10.30pm in a panic, to check that if for any reason zombie apocalypse? I couldn't get through to the place he works by phone, I'd just go there en route to the hospital to pick him up - like I'd let him miss the birth or something! :o :o

Oh and well done smegs! Glad you got that sorted :)

Cakes what lovely bump pics! You look very compact and the nursery looks gorgeous. Sure minicake (cupcake?) won't be long now. Next week we are off to Snowdonia - anywhere near you? It's a little village with steam railways nearby and lots of walking etc. Sounds like there is lots for us all to enjoy.

Smegs I would be trying all the crazy things to turn a breach baby, so go ahead and let loose! Glad you got your WC appointment.

Tock, you nutter.

Can't wait until dr's appointment this afternoon - hoping for physio referral.

GenericDietCola · 02/10/2012 15:29

X-post Fluffy - we said the same thing! I loved your FB pic - you look great!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 02/10/2012 15:32

Oh and cakes my bump looks lower when I see myself in photos but I couldn't honestly say I feel like baby's lower/dropped or anything. She hadn't engaged at my last MW appointment, sadly! You?

OP posts:
FluffyJawsOfDoom · 02/10/2012 15:33

xpost! Thanks Gen :o

cakes82 · 02/10/2012 16:09

Fluff it sounds like your dh is excited with phone calls like that, def doesn't want to miss it Grin
baby was 2/5 engaged on 24th dh says bump looks lower but it doesn't feel like it.

Gen we can get to Snowdonia National Park in about an hour and a half I think. We were up that way 10 days ago for my birthday. We went to Barmouth and Dolgellau and Talyllyn Steam Railway it was so nice and chilled and despite weather not being great we still had a good time. From Barmouth you can see Fairbourne Steam Railway. A few years back before we had moved here we went to Precipice Walk which is very pretty.

I spoke to my GP about WC vaccine, they still don't know whats happening,,,

clickingtock · 02/10/2012 16:09

Great bump pic Fluffter. LOL re' the t-shirts. V compact too, Cakes. Wait til baby2 comes along. Mwhaw. Well done on a ready nursery ladies.

Gen - I'm so excited. That's the bit of Wales where I grew up. Very romantic - riding my fat pony and swimming in the sea and getting trollied in the only shite nightclub in the whole of N Wales. Until I became an existentialist punk and then felt v sorry for myself living in the arse-end of nowhere (with a load of Welsh people to boot). Hahaha. Have a fab time. The steam railway is great and try to get over to Portmerion - fab to see and good food to be had in the hotel restaurant too if you're feeling flush. The Welsh Sea Zoo on Anglesey (Ynys Mon to the leekheads round here) island is also v sweet. Take a picnic. Breathe the lovely fresh air for me.

clickingtock · 02/10/2012 16:11

ps I am 50% Welsh therefore allowed to be rude about my kith/kin.

cakes82 · 02/10/2012 16:23

Have just found your FB pic Fluff its a lovely pic, having only bought 2 official maternity vest tops, non fitting tops is quite normal (have just been buying size 14 tops which are mainly doing a good job.)Although my maternity trs don't want to stay up properly?! You look very neat too.

I'm 3/8th welsh and lived here 4 years do I count as Welsh yet Tock?
Anglesey is on our to visit list.

cakes82 · 02/10/2012 16:30

Oh Tock I'm clothes size 12/14 my mum bought me a pair of maternity trs size 16, despite my efforts to get them changed for a smaller size she decided I would 'grow into them, well bump would anyway' a few weeks ago when I was saying my fitting maternity trs were falling down a little she asked if these ones she had bought fitted?! She has now decided that they will probably fit for baby number 2!

TMI question does a show have to have colour to it?

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 02/10/2012 17:04

I think shows can be clear and jelly-like cakes, have you had one?

I actually went down a size in mat jeans - usually a 14 but my jeans are a size 12. My tops are 16s but that's because I found the first batch (14s) shrank in the wash. So i think my 16s are actually 14s now :o

Very jealous of a lovely sounding Welsh hollibob - bring us back some rock! :)

RubberBullets · 02/10/2012 18:18

Cakes I had a show after a sweep so not sure if there was only blood in it because of the sweep or if they can have blood in them anyway.

I didn't wear maternity trousers, my usual ones still fitted me as did most of my tops

GreenOlives · 02/10/2012 18:25

Hello lovely ladies, just a quick hi from me. Thanks for asking Fluff, 12.5 hrs shifts are a killer but colleagues are doing their best to look after me! I am just dreading the swollen feet/ankles I had with DS, that was even whilst wearing compression socks!! I have developed lots of pelvic/back pain over the last couple of weeks too so I have a physio appt in Occ Health this week and Im bidding on a support thingy on Ebay! Full sympathies to everyone else with pelvic/back pain it really is a killer, was the GP any help Gen? And was it you who had it last time Little? And if so do you have any tips? Thought the vomiting had stopped as I had 3 days with none but it returned yest - definitely seems to be going in the right direction though, how are you doing on that front Bartlet?Well that makes me sound like a right moany decrepit old bag - sorry, Im expecting to bloom any day now! Wink
Smegs 32 weeks Shock that seems to have gone so fast, good luck with the turning!
Can't remember what else I wanted to respond to and im on phone so can't scroll back - love to all and special brooking for imminent sneeze births! Grin

TheLittleFriend · 02/10/2012 18:38

green it was me with previous spd and currently waiting for physio appointment as its already getting unbearable this time too Sad. I know physios might disagree with this but I don't actually think the support belts are a good idea. When they're used, your body loses muscle tone really quickly, whereas what you actually need is for those muscles to be built up and strengthened, with Specific exercises. However, if I was doing 12 hour nursing shifts I might change my mind! I really hope you get some relief from it though Smile

TheLittleFriend · 02/10/2012 18:40

Oh, and cakes my show had blood, but I'm confident that isn't always the case, and they can be clear. Exciting!!! Grin

cakes82 · 02/10/2012 18:42

Descriptions online says shows are tinged with pink or brown. So I guess I possibly have had a slight show yesterday and today but then again possibly not Confused

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 02/10/2012 18:46

little that's what my physio said to me - she wanted my muscles to do the work and said she only recommended supports in severe cases - but yes, 12.5hr shifts might have changed her view!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 02/10/2012 18:50

Speaking of sweeps, do those of you who've had one think I'll be ok to drive home (only 2 mins away) after it, or do I need to get dh to take me? It's not for a week of course, brooking I don't need it :o

OP posts:
TheLittleFriend · 02/10/2012 19:48

fluff I would have been fine to drive after my sweep, but definitely get a lift as there is no way of knowing. Brooking she'll be here by then Smile
