I think this is the first time I've ever started a brooking thread! Shock

My show was tinged, Cakes. And several days before the actual birth... I had a night when I thought I had gone into labour - deffo tightenings etc - but then fell asleep and nothing happening when I woke up in the morning. Smile Then I knew for sure when the real thing kicked off the next night (early hours). Exciting.

Tbh - I don't think this bump is any bigger than the last. So I'm sure you'll all be fine. My size 12 Hennes mat cords fit ok but I deffo couldn't do a size 10. I went back to size 10 clothes after 6 months of b-fing. Hope that happens again.

Olives - you poor soul. Long shifts and vomiting. Well done for keeping at it. And sorry to hear about SPD - sounds v painful. I have occasional deep sciatic-type twinges but really nothing to complain about.

N'night.

xxx

GreenOlives · 02/10/2012 21:59

Thanks for the advice ladies, I've not bid much for the support belt so I won't lose out too much if physio thinks its not a good idea. I was wondering whether it would help at night in bed because the pain is often worse then, what do you think? X

itsMYNutella · 02/10/2012 22:21

Hello, just popping in to say a quick hi!

On the subject of clothes I'm a 14/16 trouser and 14 top... But I keep buying size 16 maternity jeans when I probably could have done with a size 14 Hmm ah well, they fit, even if I do have to frequently pull them up (and I'm sure I look very elegant doing it)....
Anyway, MIL was over the other day getting in the way while FIL was ordering everyone about because he knows best about everything advising on what when and how we should be decorating our baby corner
(strange flat layout - it used to have a corner with a dining table and benches around it... Hopefully we will turn into a space where we can put baby and associated baby stuff)
Anyway... to get to the point: MIL said I could look through her wardrobe for some blouses that might fit me Hmm I just turned 30 and MIL is 69.... Also the taste here in Germany seems to be that old ladies (MIL is very apple shaped and dresses very much her age or older) should wear large flowery print shirts... I did my best to very politely say no thank you Confused.
This is also their first grandchild so of course they are really relaxed about it all having only waited about 20 years (DP is 32 his older brothers are 46 & 41)....

Will be popping back for updates Cakes! So exciting!

And on Thursday I am officially hitting the 3rd trimester Shock

clickingtock · 03/10/2012 08:09

LOL at your in-law stories Nutella. My MIL is like Reginald Perrin's hippo

GenericDietCola · 03/10/2012 10:19

Ooh Cakes and Tock thanks for the tips re North Wales - it really looks beautiful where we are staying. And Cakes I am very excited re your possible show! I think mine with DD was a bit tinged, but mainly mucousy and she popped out the very next day, so it might not be long for you now!

Olives I am so sorry you are still sicky and now have back/pelvis pain to boot - it's not easy is it?! I'm sure I enjoyed pregnancy a lot more with DD! My back is still pretty terrible and I have been referred for physio. It's all related to my fall/slip, but pregnancy has aggravated it as the joints are looser. Hopefully physio will start soon and I'll be better. Hope you won your belt - I agree it's probably worth using that when on your shifts and do the physio whenever you can.

Little I hope your SPD is better this time too. Are you getting treatment, or will you do the same exercises as last time?

Fluffy no idea re sweeps I'm afraid, but best to be with DH if possible, I would think.

Tock I am looking forward to the BF weight loss too! I didn't do any dieting or exercise and went right back to my normal size within a few months (hope the same thing happens this time).

Hi Nutella and well avoided on the MIL's hideous shirts!

I need a coat solution - none of my coats do up anymore. All I can think of it to wear one of my normal coats with a scarf underneath to cover the exposed bit of tummy so it doesn't get cold or wet. Too skint/tight to buy a new one!

cakes82 · 03/10/2012 10:20

Have scared myself this morn and don't know whether this is normal or not.

Over night had what I assume were contractions about 10min apart but then they stopped. This morn TMI but there was a small amount of brown so old? blood on my pad so was that my version of a show? Baby is moving as much as it ever does for this time of day. Do I just wait and see or do I ring MW for advice?

Health visitor is coming this morn as well lol

TheLittleFriend · 03/10/2012 10:28

cakes it really sounds like it's starting to happen for you! I'm sure the little bit of brown blood is just part of the show. I think mine started of brown, but (sorry for tmi) I got lots of pink mucousy stuff as the contractions ramped up. Good luck Smile

gen maybe try charity shops for a cheapo big coat? Or see if anyone can lend you one?
Unfortunately SPD is already worse this time round. I'm already doing the exercises from last time, but have been referred for more physio too though I'm quite skeptical that it will help as they are reluctant to touch you when pregnant

ScrambledSmegs · 03/10/2012 11:08

Morning. cakes that sounds very promising - fx that it all starts to happen for you soon. I don't recall even having a show, so can't help with that unfortunately!

gen I second charity shops - swing coats might be the solution for you. I'm still wearing my non-maternity raincoat, but it doesn't really cover the bump so I sympathise. I do have a black wool maternity coat from last time, New Look for £30! Sadly nothing they have this season is as nice or as cheap. Maybe keep an eye out for voucher codes, you might find a bargain? Jojo currently has a 10% off code on MN I think, but their stuff is quite expensive.

olives I hope the pelvic pain can be eased a little - 12.5 hr shifts on your feet sound incredibly tiring and painful Sad.

fluff I would have been fine to drive after my sweep, I haven't heard of anyone going into labour immediately after one yet! Good luck, and i hope it kick-starts labour for you.

Nutella your IL's sound lovely, if slightly over-enthusiastic! Mine are great, hurrah for lovely IL's!

tock Envy at BF weightloss. I put on weight - although maybe something to do with DH constantly making me eat!

Little Sorry that you're getting SPD this time as well. Are you seeing anyone about it?

Maternity clothes - maybe it's where I've been shopping, but they do come up rather big! It's quite nice to be buying jeans in a size 8, but I keep having to remind myself that there is NO WAY I'm that size in non-maternity. I am all bump at the moment, and DH thinks I've actually lost weight in other places because my face is thinner than pre-pregnancy Sad. I guess the morning sickness had quite an effect on me.

Blimey! Thunderstorm! It was beautifully sunny half an hour ago! Anyone else having crazy weather this morning?

clickingtock · 03/10/2012 11:40

Cakes - I think this is all positive and try not to feel nervous/shocked. You may have irregular contractions for a while, even days. You will basically know when the real shabang has begun because the contractions will come close together. We are all brooking for a sneeze birth and I feel positive for you that it will go really well.

Smegs - it doesn't sound like you need any weightloss tbh! I'm v Envy of size 8 mat jeans. The place where I gain weight in pg is on my thighs, sadly - to do with slower metabolism/circulation I guess (and lack of proper exercise). I will never go below a size 10, I'm just not made that way. Did manage to buy a pink/plum striped non-mat stretchy dress today. Only sized medium and looks quite good over bump so feeling chuffed. Grin

Gen - coats are the hardest aren't they? Second charity shop trawl or ebay... You need to keep your bump warm so not sure if a scarf will do it. I, like Smegs, have one from last time round tho' being crap quality all the buttons are off and I can't be arsed to fix! Wales is beautiful - I used an imagined walk with new baby on the banks of the estuary opposite Port Merion in my positive visualisation for birthing DS! - but weather can be wild so take some good gear. Being by the coast though, it tends to clear up quickly.

Little - does swimming or yoga help? My recent yoga class teacher said pelvic girdle pain is more common than ever in the preggos she's meeting/teaching. She recommends legs together whenever possible - ie, getting out of bed etc. Sure you know it all tho'. Poor you...

fluff - take some paracetamol and don't rush home afterwards, but I think you'll be all right without your DH unless you fancy having him around anyway.

Feeling bad as DS is making it quite clear he doesn't like his new creche (2 mornings per week, 8hrs total) and I left him crying his eyes out. This is 6th visit and it seems to be getting worse. Advice v welcome - is it time to call it a day and pay more for an extra morning with his childminder who he loves?

TTFN.

itsMYNutella · 03/10/2012 13:32

Good morning, thank you for the IL feedback; they are lovely and very keen but it does drive us both up the wall sometimes. FIL tends to take over and then we argue because I can't keep up with whats happening and feel like DP isn't keeping me informed; when actually DP just wants to keep the peace with everyone Confused of course pregnancy hormones are making it all so much easier :o

Gen What size are you? MIL (and FIL) have serious coat buying problems perhaps I can send you one of hers - when I go for my shirt rummage ...errrr...
I'm still surviving in my normal coat with the top buttons done up... I'm often warm at the moment as well, hadn't thought of bump getting cold Hmm... hoping that the proper cold weather starts after Christmas (and baby) so I can maybe squeeze back into same coat after hibernating at home while super sized.

Still brooking a sneeze birth for you cakes.... any update????

Stacks · 03/10/2012 14:25

Quick post - a random path through the internet took me to this page on inserts www.kiddiesgames.com/jacketinserts/ which made me think of your post I read earlier Gen.

Cakes all sounding exciting! Waves to everyone else.

Stacks · 03/10/2012 14:26

Sigh - Jacket inserts

RubberBullets · 03/10/2012 14:57
GenericDietCola · 03/10/2012 15:22

Stacks that is weird because after I wrote my post I was thinking that such a thing would be a great invention! Dammit that I didn't get in there earlier! Will have a look. Hopefully that means I won't have to take up Nutella's, er, kind offer of a coat from her MIL.

Tock I don't know what I would do really. DD goes to a playgroup 3 mornings a week (the sort where you leave them behind) and she still sometimes cries when DH drops her off, even after a year of going. Basically she enjoys it, but still gets a bit upset at times at being left. I'd be tempted to carry on a bit longer to see if he settles, but if he is really upset (and this upsets you), then maybe CM is the best option. Does he settle down once you have left? Or does he stay upset for a while? I suppose that's the key thing. DD may cry for a minute, but always perks up when DH has left her (apparently).

Stacks · 03/10/2012 15:35

It's a site from ages ago, with instructions to make your own inserts. Though it's talking about making them from all sorts of technical materials, with storm flaps and what not.

As a simple idea though, could be worth looking into. A fleece jacket is inexpensive, as buying some extra fleece and a couple of zips the same gauge shouldn't cost much either. Of course, it depends what our winter is like this year as to whether we'll need something.

cakes82 · 03/10/2012 16:40

Saw health visitor she seems nice, one of those listens lots so you probably end up saying more than you probably meant to, which can be a little odd sometimes.
Spoke to MW just to be reassured, afraid Gary Barlow and his wife's loss is still in my head. As everyone said all is as normal for 'pre-labour' so just have to wait for baby to decide its properly on its way and put up with the period pain feeling I currently have and hope I can finish one and a half sleeves of the baby cardi before it arrives. Will still have button band to do and sewing up but don't really understand how to do that bit. I'm impressed with what i've achieved so far.
I also have a cold which is very bad timing. Do you think baby will be born with immunity to this particular cold, cause it would be nice for it not to have a cold almost immediately after birth.

GreenOlives · 03/10/2012 18:24

Just a quickie as on my break at work. I second the pre loved coat option Gen, I got one on ebay for £5.50! Its a nice wool and mohair one from Wallis and I've washed it so its good as new. I found the maternity ones were very popular (and therefore expensive!) so I just scoured for loose/swing styles and im pretty certain the one I've got will do up until the end!
Waves to all. X

clickingtock · 04/10/2012 08:30

Thanks Gen - that's right and the ladies at the creche says he's upset for a minute and then gets on with it. I think guilt is a bit bad at mo' because I am a bit prone to losing my rag. I'm trying some tricks with myself - counting to 10 before I react. Yesterday he hurtled off on his bike when we were supposed to be getting into the car and headed for a busy road. I tried to call him back, then had to run (waddle) like mad to catch him and managed to scratch his neck as I went for his coat collar just before he went onto the road. Nasty scratch and feeling awful. He's aware as he's more clingy. Just a phase I know but we both need to work on being a 'team'. I will persevere with creche for now; I think it's good for him to mix with different children not just 2-3 boys at CM's.

Cakes - you're doing well, stay positive. Baby may get a cold but BFing can really boost their immunity so I do hope for your sake that it goes well (if you choose to BF). Also your cold is prob past its worst so by time baby comes there shouldn't be much chance of passing it on. I think in the womb the placenta protects against colds etc... Bad luck for you to have cold now though. Thanks

Biscuitsandtea · 04/10/2012 09:36

Really? No new babies yet?

Come on, I'm needing some newborn snuggles.

Thanks Thanks

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 04/10/2012 17:26

:o at the MIL stories! Mine is actually really rather well dressed? but is also two dress sizes smaller than me so I?ve no hope lol.

It sounds like things are really ramping up at Chateau Cakes!
Sorry to disappoint biscuits but sadly not so much as a mild tightening here Hmm I think this baby is going to have to be crowbarred out of my womb? however I?m enjoying the last few days where I can get DH to clean up the catsick, as it?ll be my job again soon, sigh?

Gen I?ve done without a coat for the most part ? mine was belt fastened so I made do with it having a bit of a gap over the Spring, then went without over the summer - but I second (third?) the suggestion of a cheapo charity shop jobby.

Thanks for the advice on the sweep ladies? I think DH has the day off, but I shan?t worry too much if he has to work, now :)

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 04/10/2012 17:27

Ok, don't laugh but......... you know how you pop the baby's head out in one contraction, and then generally the body follows with a subsequent one (or so I've heard).......... if it's a water birth, the baby's not at risk of drowning, is it? Confused

OP posts:
TheLittleFriend · 04/10/2012 17:34

fluff I'm fairly confident that they wouldn't recommend them if there was a drowning risk WinkGrin
Seriously though, I think newborns have a reflex that stops them breathing in underwater.

I'm exactly 20wks today, which feels nice. Scan tomorrow so get your gender predictions in now! Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 04/10/2012 18:10

Just poking my head in to say I have a JMB maternity coat if anyone is interested. I'll put up a pick later......

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 04/10/2012 18:11
