yay popinda what great news! Welcome newbies and congrats on the BFPs!!!

EricNorthmansFangBanger · 05/07/2012 14:34

Great news popinda! Very happy for you :)

Just got back from my 1st midwife appointment. Took about 35 minutes and have a date for a home visit in a week and a half.

Got some lovely pink notes and had my blood taken. She's got me at 6 weeks 2 days, though I think I am a week earlier, but I'll go off her dates. Earliest I will get my scan is 9th August and latest is 29th August, so I feel like I have a rough idea of dates!

Just trying to decide now when to tell parents. I would prefer to wait until after the scan but DH wants to tell them sooner.

whiteandyelloworchid · 05/07/2012 14:43

aw, thanks

great news pops

mandasand · 05/07/2012 17:46

Hello lovelies! Very happy to be joining you having just found out I'm preggers with DC1! Only been trying for a couple of months so v. happy.

Found out Tuesday evening; did another test yesterday morning. went to doc yesterday afternoon, expecting him to do another test. Just got a 'Congrats! Go and see the midwife!' She called this a.m. and have an appointment with her in two weeks. She estimates that I'm due 10 March 2013.

So yesterday I was FULL of symptoms - nausea, sore boobs, tiredness. Today ... nothing, which is making me a bit anxious!

Also, doc said I have to give up jogging, but I'd already been for a three-mile plod that morning! Feel very guilty about that but also a bit annoyed that I can't jog. Loads of conflicting advice on the web too. Can a v-e-r-y gentle shuffle-jog really be that harmful? I took special care yesterday to keep my torso pretty still, just moving my legs, and doing really gentle steps. Far less strenuous than the hill walking I did on Monday before I knew I was pregnant!! I really want to stay as fit as poss and I'm already about a stone overweight and worried about how enormous I'm going to get. Any advice would be appreciated :-)

backwardpossom · 05/07/2012 18:06

Your doc is talking rubbish, manda! The advice is that you shouldn't suddenly take up jogging when you find out you're pregnant, but that if your body is already used to it, you're fine. Welcome to the thread!

Doraemon · 05/07/2012 18:32

manda, NCT website is great for reliable info about all sorts of stuff, see here for exercise www.nct.org.uk/pregnancy/exercise-during-pregnancy It just says running not recommended after 20 weeks.

DH is back from working away, just told him, he looked less shell-shocked than I'd expected which is good :-) Only just feeling like I'm getting used to the idea of DC3 and I've known since Sunday, but he was quite positive :)

Em2010 · 05/07/2012 18:54

Hii to all the newcomers! Congratulations!

manda I'm not a medic at all but everything I've heard completely agrees with what possum says. There are some very vigorous fitness regimes and classes available for pregnancy. I had a great fitness DVD during my first pregnancy- cant remember the name right now but it got good reviews on amazon. I lent it to a friend and that's one thing I'll definitely be asking for back!

doraemon glad your dh took the news well!

tiddleypompom · 05/07/2012 19:16

Congratulations manda & welcome on board! No useful advice from me with regards to jogging I'm afraid - I am not much one for sport!

dora lovely that your DH is so positive about your news :)

So is everyone happy & well? I am shattered (again) after a lovely day visiting friends for a ruby wedding anniversary. Chilled out on a picnic rug with DS and chatted away to folks whilst being brought yummy food. Had to walk 4 miles back to parents house in the sun - bliss except I had dressed for yet more rain & boiled alive in my boots :o

Just sat down in front of wimbles after bedtime routine. Thank heavens for waitrose dine in for £10 deals, which is bunged in oven.

Spamfrit · 05/07/2012 19:34

Hello everyone. Number 2 on the way for us. Due 11 th march ish (there seems to be a bit or variance depending on which calculator I use). Ds1 was 10 days late though so I'm sure it's a rough estimate.
I plan to jog till as long as it's comfortable. Not like I'm a marathon runner or anything but I put 3 stone on with first and have only just managed to shift it after 2 years! Non of this celebrity body bounce back here.

Congrats everyone x

tiddleypompom · 05/07/2012 20:13

Welcome spamfrit! You mean you weren't out clubbing the week after giving birth wearing a minidress & 6 inch choos? Letting the side down, tsk tsk :o

Spamfrit · 05/07/2012 20:19

Obviously I got that wrong the first time round. Will truly be rectified with number 2. I just need to get the nanny and the stylist and personal nutritionist on board!

posypoo · 05/07/2012 20:39

Evening everyone and welcome to manda and spam. I feel totally wiped out today, and had my first wave of nausea (for about two seconds). Woo!

mandasand · 05/07/2012 21:16

hello everyone and thanks for the warm welcome!

thanks also for the really excellent advice on jogging whilst pregnant. this completely puts my mind at rest, and that NCT resource is just fantastic, too!

what a nice list this is :-) really reassuring to be with people at the same stage.

Popinda · 05/07/2012 21:49

Welcome newbies! This is very nice place to be! Everyone so kind in here! Just wanted to say thank you again for all of your support over last 24 hours! I'm much better now and pain has stopped! Can't wait for another scan to see my little baby. Smile it so amazing!
Re gender: I think it's going to be girl and my dh thinks its going to be boy! Grin we will find out what the sex. Need to know what colour to paint the nursery! :-)
Re jogging: they said if you were active before pg you should carry on if it's not causing any discomfort. I unfortunately can't even walk too fast or stretch too much as I instantly get pains! What a great excuse not to do anything! Grin

scubastevie · 05/07/2012 21:49

Hello Manda and Spam :)

I'm feeling totally bloated tonight, it feels so weird, I've read this is The hcg hormone?
I'm in a bit of a dilemma this weekend; we are going to visit my brother and his partner in London. We don't yet want to tell them (but will in about 5 weeks time when see my parents and them). But he has arranged for us all to go to loads of cool pubs and bars but obviously I won't be drinking! I'm going to get lots of Hmm looks, it's not like a gathering where you can blag it Confused. I'm thinking of just saying we are trying for a baby so shouldn't...do you think that will wash?!

tedmundo · 05/07/2012 22:20

Argh lost last post on stoopid phone.

Gist was...

Welcome newbies

Bastard skinflint dh buying me HTC rather than iPhone. Humph.

CatHackney · 05/07/2012 22:33

Hello all

I'm entirely new to this whole mumsnet (and motherhood) thing, but my EDD is March 4th, so thought I'd come along and get a clue! I was fascinated to see the comments about vivid dreams - I'd never heard that vivid dreams were common in pregnancy before, but I had an incredibly vivid dream the other night in which I was in a sort of action-adventure Mission Impossible / James Bond action sequence diving off a cliff . . . all a bit strange. And, somehow, I didn't quite expect this much bloating either . . . nice to know others have similar experiences!

scubastevie, you might just say you're on antibiotics - would avoid the pregnancy question and speculation altogether if you're not ready to say anything yet!

ChiefTittifer · 05/07/2012 23:03

I had a dream the other night that I had non-identical girl twins. Eek! One at a time, please.

CatHackney, unfortunately nothing is likely to arouse suspicion as much as saying you are on antibiotics and so can't drink! You might as well hand out scan pictures :o

We had a massive party arranged for the day I found put I was expecting DS. I just pretended to drip - picked a drink that's easy to fake (e.g. G&T) and then if it was my round, order it with no alcohol. If someone else's round get DP to help, take teeny tiny sips, accidentally chuck it in a plant pot, whatever. After a while everyone else gets so drunk they hardly notice anyway!

I did a test again today, just for fun oh dear, no life. The test line came up quicker and darker than the control, which was most gratifying. Apart from bloating and the odd wave of nausea - oh, and the crashing tiredness, but that might just be my life Wink - I don't seem to be having much in the way of symptoms.

scubastevie · 05/07/2012 23:34

Thanks Cat and chief, you might be right though, and they may ask which ones, sure you can, one won't hurt etc...hmm god not telling anyone is shite!! :o

Leftwingharpie · 06/07/2012 06:26

Agree with Chief, if you use the antibiotics line you may as well put a pregnancy notice in the Times! I was convinced I'd never get away with not drinking at the wedding we went to, particularly as I was sitting at a table with a friend who's just had a baby and a friend who's 20 weeks pg herself and everyone has been waiting for our announcement! I took a couple of sips of wine every so often and mostly drank either water, or nothing. It was almost disappointing how nobody noticed. Obviously it was even easier at the party later when everyone was already drunk!

pipsicles · 06/07/2012 06:55

Congratulations Scuba, Manda and Spam and a particularly big whoop whoop for you Backwards! I think we may need to be hand holding buddies over the next eight weeks or so - what do you reckon?

Re not drinking. I am terrible at lying and consequently at hiding pregnancies! DH and I have always taken the line that in early pg, we tell the people that we know we'd want the support of if it all went wrong. Sadly, last time it did and even though we thought we'd been careful, we still found it heartbreaking having to untell what felt like the world. So this time I said to DH that I want to keep it a bit more quiet. Despite my best intentions, I've told at least one person a day so far! Blush i find it so addictive! Like poas! With my birthday today and my party tomorrow, I was planning on making up mock Pimms and keeping things quiet, but I'll probably spill the beans anyway! Sorry Scuba, I'm absolutely no help at all!

DS kindly woke up at 5:15 this morning and although DH and MiL got up to him, I realised I was desperate for a wee and then felt sick, so gave up on actually sleeping and am just sat in bed on mm eating crackers to keep the nausea at bay! I may have to go and make a cup of fruity tea though.

Enjoy being pregnant today ladies, secret or otherwise!

Spamfrit · 06/07/2012 07:33

Happy birthday Pipsicles!
You're right everyone. I did the antibiotics line when pregnant with Ds1 it didn't wash. So yeah this time doing the pretending to drink thing and tipping it away whenever I get the opportunity. Last time was rubbish as was over Christmas when everyone is trying to give you alcohol/pate/wrong cheese!

Leftwingharpie · 06/07/2012 07:44

Cathackney welcome to MN. Tis a most excellent place! I am also massively bloated, so I do look a little bit pg now! DH says he can't see it, which is infuriating!

tiddleypompom · 06/07/2012 07:44

Happy Birthday pips! Have a fab day - and tell us about your party? Cheese & pineapple hedgehogs?

My strategy for not telling people is avoidance. Holing myself up for a few weeks :o

Just popped onto the July thread where it is all kicking off. Lots of bfps. I think they're going for 100% success - now wouldn't that be great?!

tiddleypompom · 06/07/2012 07:45

Oh bum, sorry I forgot - welcome on board cat! :)
