Serious jogging? Mountain Buggy Terrain or Babyjogger Summit XC. Look for good suspension and the larger the air tyres the better. I'm not a runner at all so this is info from friends who do, BTW.

I like babyjoggers. I have a City Mini which is great from birth without a carrycot and folds really small and light, and a City Classic which has suspension and air tyres and is quite rugged (and old, so we don't mind it getting covered in mud).

Everyone's criteria is a bit different. we all should consider factors such as where you live, how you live, whether you need a compact fold to live in the boot of a car or if the buggy will live in the house and never be put down, or small frame to cope with public transport, suspension if you are likely to go off road a lot, 3 wheels is better off road, 4 wheels generally better in town, whether you are considering another child quickly, in which case a single which converts to a tandem is a good idea, whether you prefer a car seat attachment or a carrycot, or a proper pram and a cheap stroller later on....

I seriously recommend anyone to go talk to the pushchair addicts on the pushchair section of mumsnet. And go to Bestbuggy.co.uk for reviews on what you like.

MamaMary · 18/07/2012 17:34

Just to add my tuppence' worth, I have two buggies. One has 3 big air-filled tyres - it's a travel system (Mothercare). It's big and heavy to lift (though as light as a feather to push) and I thought I'd never use it after DD reached 8 months or so, so I bought a stroller (Chicco) too. How wrong I was. Those big tyres are far easier and make life so much easier going up and down curbs. DD is now 2 and I still prefer to use the travel system (car seat long abandoned of course).

Birdies · 18/07/2012 17:50

I'm on hols at the mo and no chance to read all latest messages but I did see newbie's and YAY that's brilliant news! And actually funnily enough you're in a better position now having had things ruled out than if you'd just been given a low risk in the first place (I'm sure you wouldn't go through all that worry again through choice though!).

And a to everyone else til I'm back

PricklyPickle · 18/07/2012 18:06

Woo hoo Newbie! That's so fantastic. Now you get to tell everyone.

Keep the pushchair advice coming ladies. I just haven't got a clue and they all seem crazy expensive.

OP posts:
BuntyCollocks · 18/07/2012 18:33

I have a stokke xplory and loooove it. I am desperately hoping I don't need a double as I'd be heartbroken to get rid.

pmgkt · 18/07/2012 19:22

bunty can you fit a buggy board? I assume this is dc2 but i havent checked.

SpringFlowers · 18/07/2012 19:29

Congratulations Newbie, that's brilliant news. I hope you enjoy telling everyone!

BuntyCollocks · 18/07/2012 20:15

pmgkt yes, it can take a buggy board, but not sure how well ds will do with it, as he'll still be under 2 when this one arrives, and he loves to wander! I have visions of him dashing off ... I think I'll sling DD in the moby to begin with, and then move her into the pram and DS into the rose and rebellion.

theboutiquemummy · 18/07/2012 21:20

newbie great news

I'm still being sick waiting to blossom Sad n looking at buggies not bothering with a pram looking at travel systems instead x

PricklyPickle · 18/07/2012 22:14

I'm probably being a complete wally, but can someone explain the difference between buggies, strollers, pushchairs and travel systems?

OP posts:
pmgkt · 18/07/2012 22:20

Ah bunty I didn't realise he was quite that young, buggy board will be too much cos they can't walk all the time and still sleep so you don't want to be that restricted. You can get them with seats too, apparently but still think the is a big ask. My ds will be 2 and a half and I have got the doubles kit for my buggy.

Pascha · 18/07/2012 23:05

Stroller is a lightweight umbrella fold pushchair like a mcclaren, tends to be used for toddlers when you don't need a huge pram. Pushchair is when the baby sits up as opposed to a pram when they are still flat. Travel system is just a way of saying you can stick your carseat on the chassis rather than use the seat. Buggy is a catch-all term for everything I think.

It's all a bit arbitrary really. In truth, most modern buggies marketed as "from birth" can lie flat, can take a car seat, have a carrycot option.

DiscoDomina · 19/07/2012 09:41

Mummuypud don't worry about lack of symptoms, i've hardly had any either and i had a private scan at 8 weeks and everything was ok then. Re your scan your not in the West Mids are you? We have the same edd and i didn't have a scan date till yesterday when i was 12 weeks!!!

I'm really cross actually as they don't write to the hospital until after you have booked in to arrange a scan date, i now have less than a weeks notice (scan is next Tues) and now DH says it is unlikely that he will be able to come as work won't give him the time off at short notice. Angry

I'm a bit gutted as will be my DC 1 but i have two step DC also, which DH has had to take short notice time off to cover childcare and attend a sports day -which i don't have a problem with at all they are a big part of my life too and of course he has just as much responsibility and duty for them even though they don't live with us in the week. I'm just upset because he has taken that time recently then it means my DC doesn't feel important enough to say i have to have the time not is it ok if i can have the time. Especially as there was a lot of debate in our house as to wether we would have kids as i always felt it was something more for me as he already done this and didn't want my DC to feel insignificant by there Dad compared to their siblings.

Selfish rant over with.........How is everyone today Smile

eleda · 19/07/2012 09:56

Thanks for the advice ladies and pascha I'll look at those two...- laughable jogging really but yep 5 or 10k a few times a week so I'm after a buggy that'll handle it!
I live out in the sticks so don't often use public transport but don't really want anything too heavy. I'll check out the Pushchair threads, I didn't even know they existed!!

bionic hope your scan goes well today - is that the last one for 12 wk scans?
And emilie how are you doing? Keeping fingers crossed for you xx

happyhow · 19/07/2012 11:14

You know those almost stabbing pains that some of us are having low down in the tummy? I asked my friend yesterday and she said it wasn't totally normal but I'd maybe pulled something at the same time as stuff was stretching. When I was getting ready for bed, I discovered an ingrown hair and managed to get it out - it was 12mm long!!! Needless to say, it's not hurting so much when I cough... Grin

Yay for newbie!! I'm so glad you got good news and I'm glad everyone else's scans have been going well.

newbie6 · 19/07/2012 11:19

hello all!

Going for a scan today for peace of mind that everything is okay. Have not had any bleeding etc since CVS so hoping that is all a good sign. Did have slight soreness in lower abdomen last night (bit like a dull stitch like pain?) but not sure if that is normal or not? I have read that first 3 days is the highest risk period so hopefully I am now past that.

Very impressed at my hospital for agreeing to scan me, nice midwives :)

Hope everyone else getting scans etc gets on well today!

x

BionicEmu · 19/07/2012 13:28

Well, am back from the hospital and there's a baby in my tummy!! Nice strong heartbeat, and s/he was wiggling her/his arms and legs around. Couldn't get the NT measurement though, baby was just in the wrong position despite me jiggling my tummy around, so have to have the quadruple blood test at 15ish weeks instead.

Spend ages talking to the obstetrician due to a complicated medical history, but she was lovely. She surprised me by saying that since I had fairly severe pre-eclampsia at 33/34 weeks with DS, I have a greater than 50% risk of getting it again. I didn't think the risk was anywhere near that much, and I don't want pre-eclampsia again, it was awful! Ah well, am now starting aspirin every day to try and reduce risk, and am apparently also eligible for 2 different clinical trials, so am trying to decide on them.

Hope everyone else is well? and newbie hope your scan goes well too?

Re:pushchairs, I currently have an Out 'n About Nipper 360 for DS and I love it - we are fairly rural and it's perfect for muddy/rocky paths. DS will be 2 years 3 months when this baby is due, so am trying to decide if it's actually worth getting a double buggy or not. When he wants to he can walk for miles (well, a couple), but when he doesn't there's just no persuading him.

Anyway, am updating the list with my due date as it's been brought forwards a couple of days:

Yay bionic - great news!!

newbie6 · 19/07/2012 15:29

Great news bionic!

My scan went well, they checked everything out for me including my placenta (all v weird!)...anyway - everything is fine - bambino was jumping about and posing for the photos, ha ha!

Think I am finally relaxing which is such a good feeling...I am actually going to have a baby - OMG!!!

Love to everyone :)

xx

SquealyB · 19/07/2012 15:48

Great news bionic and newbie and anyone else who's scans I have missed.

Watching the buggy debate with interest. We are planning on having another DC after this one (all things going well (touching wood etc.)) so am particularly interested in the single convertible to double options. I see the Icandy range has a couple of these options so would be keen to hear anyones views.

I am astounded by how much they cost though Shock

Tugstonia · 19/07/2012 15:58

Excellent news newbie and bionic and all those who've had scans lately! Hooray!

I'm having those funny stabbing/achey pains low down too, mostly when I stand up from sitting or move suddenly... is it round ligament pain? Will check for ingrowing hairs though happy in case it's that :)

My next scan isn't until 14 September when I'll be 22 weeks, feels like eternity to wait til then. Even though I only had my 12 week scan last week I still want to know everything's ok! Am I just being mental?! Wish I could just chill out and enjoy it but seem to be constantly anxious.

SquealyB · 19/07/2012 16:15

Tugs - I feel exactly the same way. My next scan is on 10 September.

I am focusing on my 16 week MW appointment (8 August) as I understand they often try and hear the hearbeat then and hopefully that will re-assure me.

Tugstonia · 19/07/2012 16:39

Ooh yes forgot about MW appt, thanks for reminding me Squealy. Mine's on 10th Aug and I'll be 17 wks so hopefully she'll be able to hear heartbeat then.
