squealy we have a short list with a few bloopers just for a laugh Grin

MrsMallard · 17/07/2012 15:35

On a separate note, I wanted to mention a really important petition that's been started by Professor Cathy Warwick (General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives).

"More babies were born in England in 2010 than in any year since 1972, whilst births to women aged 30 or older were at their highest since 1946. The NHS is desperately short of midwives, and the shortage affects every region of England. We need urgent action from the Government, including a target to recruit the equivalent of 5000 more full-time midwives. Care for women but especially babies at the very start of life should be shielded from the cuts."

You can access and sign the petition here:
epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/13716

It would be great if you would all sign the petition and also spread the word among friends and family as the petition needs 100,000 signatures to be taken to the House of Commons.

SquealyB · 17/07/2012 15:38

Thanks guys - luckily the work was very interesting and so adreniline kept me going. I am pretty exhausted now though in the aftermath.

creepy - My DH's name is Joseph so obviouly I think that this a fab choice. Nancy is really lovely too very.

boutique - I love the bloopers. It is amazing what rhymes with otherwise inoffensive names.

mrsM - we could not resist talking about it!

MamaMary · 17/07/2012 15:59

MrsMallard I have signed the petition. Thanks for linking to it. I completely agree with it.

When giving birth to DD two years ago I could see that the midwives were rushed off their feet and one midwife confided that things were at crisis point. :(

CreepyCrawly · 17/07/2012 16:57

Thanks Squealy, it's the only boys name we agree on, even though we have three friends called Joe.

Oh pretend names are great fun, I've told a few people that we're set on Orinoco for a boy Grin

SquealyB · 17/07/2012 17:19

Our favourite pretend name is "Rio" (for boy or girl) based on place of conception! So celeb. daarling....

Orinoco is a goodie Grin

CountryMama · 17/07/2012 18:36

Hi... may I join you all. I am pg with a 'surprise' 3rd child. (i have an 8 month old baby) I didn't know how pg I was until scan (thus my late arrival on this forum!) My due date is 24/01.

Brugmansia · 17/07/2012 19:23

I love the name Nancy. It was my grandmother's name and if we have a girl it will probably be her middle name. We have middle names decided on for either a boy or girl. We have ideas on first names but I'm sure I'll change my mind between now and January and again after the baby is born so a short list is probably best.

My scan is tomorrow, so I'm a bit nervous at the moment.

Hormonalhell · 17/07/2012 20:23

Hi everybody had my scan today.

Was i agony by the time i went in for my scan ( had drunk 3 1/2 pints of water) almost crying then she said 'go empty your bladder as i cant get a good view!! So i ran to the loo and was there for 5 mins!! God know why they need a full bladder cos she then proceeded to do my scan but unfortunately baby wasnt playing and so she couldnt get measurement for nuchal test Sad

Anyhow had my bloods done then waited an hour to see consultant and then he wasnt happy with scan results so he did it himself!!!again with an empty bladder, baby behaved this time and he measured my nuchal test at 2.1mm, is this good? He also said nasal bone was present so he seemed pretty happy. He then sent me for blood test for that then.

Hormonalhell · 17/07/2012 20:24

Good luck for tomorrow Brugs!!

Pascha · 17/07/2012 21:02

Hi CountryMama, mine is a "surprise" second child, totally out of the blue. We've got over the shock for now though [wan]Smile.

I like Nancy too, its pleasantly old fashioned but fresh. Our girls name is locked down and has been since before DS was born. Boys name is getting closer. We have a second name but not a first really. I really like the idea of a fake name to tell people. Maybe Nebuchadnezzar for a boy and Jezebel for a girl?

Hormonal 2.1 sounds ok, the top figure is 2.5 and the blood test will give you a truer result. I finally got mine back today after getting the midwife to chase them from a month ago. I am low risk so she doesn't need to see me until I've had my 20 week scan, so rather than have a 16 week and then a 28 week appointment I will have a 21 week and 28 week appt instead. Suits me.

Good luck for tomorrow Brugs, and still thinking of you as well Newbie

octanegirl · 17/07/2012 21:53

I've got some random hospital appointment tomorrow. It just said Antenatal clinic, seeing the consultant or a member of his team. Anyone else have one of those? No idea what it's for!

pmgkt · 18/07/2012 07:06

Octane have you asked for cs? Or got any unrelated health issues or had them in the past. Ever fallen off and broken anything serious? Hope it goes ok anyway

octanegirl · 18/07/2012 07:09

Ah yes I did ask for a CS. And yes in the past I've broken just about everything! It's probably the former then.....

pmgkt · 18/07/2012 07:22

I imagine so, mine is next months so I'll be interested to hear what happens. I saw on another post that someone had fallen off and broken her back so she was seen by the consultant.

newbie6 · 18/07/2012 09:14

MrsMallard · 18/07/2012 09:29

Thanks mama for signing the petition to recruit more midwives. If anyone else hasn't yet signed the petition, please please please spend 2 minutes supporting this important issue and share it with family and friends: epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/13716
There's only just over a month left to gather another 40,000 signatures to get this issue debated in the House of Commons.

mrsbugsywugsy · 18/07/2012 10:28

newbie i am so happy for you

newbie6 · 18/07/2012 10:40

MrsMallard - have signed your petition - hope it goes well!

x

SquealyB · 18/07/2012 10:48

brug - good luck with your scan hope it goes well. octane same with your appointment.

mrsM - petition signed.

welcome country! What a surprise !!

BionicEmu · 18/07/2012 11:32

newbie Fantastic news, I'm totally chuffed for you!

brugs good luck for today.

I will finally have my scan at 9am tommorrow morning, followed by consultant appointment. Am starting to feel sick just thinking about it - have been through the mill recently and am worried about some medications I've been taking, but guess I'll just have to wait and see.

So, since you've all (?) had scans now, do I actually need to drink pints of water beforehand? I can't remember what I did with DS, but this time I know my MW told me at my booking appt that I should drink at least a pint of water an hour before, but it doesn't mention anything on my appointment letter about it. I'm getting a bit worried as my appointment's at 9am, and in order to get to the hospital in rush hour as well as drop DS off at nursery I have to leave the house by 7:20am at the latest, so will have to neck water before I leave, and am terrified I'm going to be busting for a wee but stuck in traffic!

Hope everyone's well

mummypud · 18/07/2012 11:34

i am 12 weeks and scan not booked yet.. Getting myself in a state. Syptoms seem
