Who else is waiting for their results back? I feel quite worried. Last time I was 1:510 so am hoping for that or better. It's quite an anxious time.

BionicEmu · 10/07/2012 19:11

Have just thought, about festivals! Check the terms of the festival for if there are special allowances if you are pregnant. I went to Download earlier this year, and they allowed all sorts of things if you produced your NHS maternity card. Access to disabled toilets, you could take a chair anywhere etc. Definitely worth checking!

P.S. Soundgarden were amazing, couldn't believe I actually saw them, well worth it :)

Lora1982 · 10/07/2012 19:44

newbie my friend got told she had a one in seven chance too. she was so nervous for a long time. she had the cvs aswell and all turned out well for her. (just thought u needed a good 'it can be ok' story)

godzookey · 10/07/2012 20:06

Got my scan tomorrow, wish me luck ladies!!!

newbie6 · 10/07/2012 20:11

Hi everyone,

Thanks to all who have posted a reply, it's so nice having your support and understanding. Thanks too to lora1982 it is good to hear a positive outcome. OH and I have decided to go for the CVS and will ask about it tomorrow at our appointment. I just want it done now so I can get the results, feel sick at the thought of yet another wait but hoping it will be good news and I can at least then have some peace of mind for the rest of my pregnancy. Whilst I am worried about the risk of miscarriage, the odds are much more in my favour that I should be okay and I think for the peace of mind it will be worth it. I need to know what the facts are and then I can make a sound judgement rather than feeling I have this number hanging over my head at the moment which is ruining all the positive feelings I have about being pregnant. My instincts tell me my baby is fine so I am holding onto that for dear life at the moment and hopefully whatever the outcome, I will take a decision based on fact as opposed to a statistic. xx

SquealyB · 10/07/2012 20:43

Me too Godzookey - mine is at 9.20 what time is yours?

I am terrified and excited at the same time......argh!

newbie hope your appointment goes well tomorrow and it is great that you are staying positive.

CraftyGirly · 10/07/2012 21:22

newbie so sorry to hear about your results, will keep everything crossed for you

mrsbugsy there was a big sign saying that there was strictly NO use of mobile phones allowed for taking pics or vids inside the ultrasound rooms Grin and mobiles should be switched off! I dont think you'd be able to get a decent pic with your phone without the sonographer noticing what you were doing anyway as the screen is quite far away from you, big but on the opposite wall

PricklyPickle · 10/07/2012 22:05

newbie i just wanted to tell you i'm thinking of you.

Have you had a look at the antinatal tests/choices section of the talk boards? There seems to be lots of lovely helpful people there.

SpringFlowers · 11/07/2012 08:26

Good luck with the scans today. Still hoping not to get a phone call today - fx

Tugstonia · 11/07/2012 08:53

Best of luck to those with scans today.
Newbie good luck to you too, thinking of you
Spring hope you don't get a phone call today

DiscoDomina · 11/07/2012 09:12

Good luck to everyone today x

newbie6 · 11/07/2012 10:17

Hi all,

So am back from the hospital and feel a little more reassured. Have decided to go for the CVS and have been told it is a very experienced consultant who will carry out the procedure. They hope to get me in tomorrow or Friday but worse case scenario it will be early next week. I get the results after 48hrs. I feel so sick and anxious, just praying everything will be okay. The procedure doesn't sound very nice but hopefully the reassurance will be worth the pain!

xxx

allchik · 11/07/2012 10:46

So glad you will get answers real soon newbie have faith that this is a really common procedure and that you are in very safe hands Thanks

newbie6 · 11/07/2012 10:49

thanks allchik x

theboutiquemummy · 11/07/2012 11:02

Good luck today for scans etc fingers crossed for good news for everyone xox

Birdies · 11/07/2012 11:30

Great news newbie, an experienced consultant means risk much lower than the average (which is fairly low anyway really).

Spring hope you don't get call today, keep us posted.

And good luck to those with scans today.

PS I just tried the drinking cold water trick and pretty sure I felt a movement!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 11/07/2012 11:57

Newbie ? hope they get you a scan slot ASAP.

I?m feeling pretty rubbish today ? was awake all night with awful ear ache in both ears. Moaned to DH as he was waking up and he just muttered ?It?s probably just the baby kicking? and rolled over and went back to sleep. Thanks, DH, most helpful.

Anyway, went to the doctor, I have infections in BOTH ears. She was very nice, and very sympathetic when she realised I couldn?t take any ibuprofen! Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon.

I?m feeling a bit ripped off after reading how much you guys have paid for scan pics ? I was charged £10 for mine! And when I got home I realised she had stapled copies of the pictures into my maternity notes anyway, so I could have just photocopied those. Hmph.

I?ve got a busy few days ahead ? two old school friends are coming to stay for the weekend, and we?re all off to a mutual friend?s wedding on Saturday (hooray). I will drop them off at the station on Sunday afternoon just in time to rush back and get everything ready for MIL, who will be arriving Sunday evening to stay for a while.

If I don?t get chance to post for a while, hope you all keep well, and I?ll catch up with you all next week.

mrsbugsywugsy · 11/07/2012 12:35

Good luck to everyone with scans today

newbie hope the test goes well and please keep us posted

Can someone let me know when they usually take the bloods for the downs test? Do they do it when they do the scan or do they use some of the blood which was taken at my booking appointment? The midwife had trouble getting blood out of me so I'm not looking forward to the same thing happening again on Monday.

CraftyGirly · 11/07/2012 12:40

mrsbugsy I had my scan yesterday and they did take blood again in the antenatal clinic. only 1 tube though, and the lady was very good, much better than my midwife who butchered me. I think they do it all the time so they are more experienced, I barely felt it and I'm a real wimp with needles!

mrsbugsywugsy · 11/07/2012 12:47

Thanks Crafty. Oh well I shall just resign myself to becoming the human pincushion.

ChutesTooNarrow · 11/07/2012 12:58

oooh lots of sympathy Cupcakes I had an ear infection at the start of my pregnancy, It was flipping awful. I ended up being prescribed codeine as I was in agony. I hope you feel better soon. I am also currently on antibiotics as just after my ear infection I got a really bad cough and cold which hasn't shifted after six or so weeks. I would kill for a lemsip, or ibruprofen, or a nasal spray right now. I am not even bothering with paracetamol as it is so useless.

newbie I am glad it was a helpful appointment and I really hope you get the CVS appointment very soon.

I still don't have a date for my scan, am just about to ring hospital and harass them about it.

Birdies · 11/07/2012 13:26

Mrsbugsy they will take it again but if you're in the hospital they may send you to the blood taking clinic (I had to take a ticket and wait to be called - like on Tesco meat counter!). But much better as all they do there is take blood, so very experienced. I had one bad blood test by a midwife where she lifted the needle up before taking it out, leaving my whole arm black and blue and couldn't lie on it for day's. Have avoided her ever since!

SpringFlowers · 11/07/2012 13:30

I was feeling a bit glum about my combined test results so called my midwife. She then phoned the lab and gave me my results over the phone instead of having to wait two weeks. It came back as 1:1500 which she said was a fantastic result for someone my age. I am gobsmacked considering at 39 I begin with a 1:150 risk. This is a result I thought I could only have dreamed of. I guess it's probably ok to tell everyone I'm pregnant then...

Cupcakes, sorry you are so poorly. Ear infections are so horrid at the best of times. I hope that your anti-biotics kick in quickly.

Newbie, it sounds like you are being really well taken care of at your hopsital and that you will get your results quickly enough. I really hope that everything is ok for you and that you are coping with the uncertainty ok.

Chutes, harrassing worked for me - although I was very nice about it! How many weeks are you now?

MrsBugsy, blood is taken a few times during pregnancy. The person who did mine on Monday only takes blood so you should get someone pretty experienced who will be able to do it easily enough.

Any news on todays scans?

MamaMary · 11/07/2012 14:05

Hello, just checking in. Good luck to newbie and those who may or may not get phonecalls. Springflowers, great news on your ratio - that's reassuring.

Cupcakes, hope you start to feel better soon.

My main symptom is tiredness now - could be because I am getting up hourly at night to use the bathroom. Can't remember it being this bad last time! I also have a slight headache and of course occasional nausea. Hoping it all subsides at 13 weeks! I forgot myself yesterday and took ibuprofen because it was in my handbag. But I'm quite relaxed about things this time round - my MW told me it's not that they don't know over-the-counter drugs are unsafe in pregnancy - it's just that they haven't been tested - paracetamol is the only one that has been tested.
