Morning all, just got to hospital waiting for scan! I thought I was over the MS but it appears not as I brought my Cheerios back up this morning. I'm so nervous, can't wait to see it just wish they'd hurry up and call me! Smile

SpringFlowers · 10/07/2012 09:41

Good luck Crafty!

Allchik - I have been off work for four weeks so three days sounds pretty good going to me. I have never felt so unwell. I am hoping to go back on Monday for the last week of term.

We are ok with girls names but hopeless on boys. I can't find anything I like except Spike and my husband things I am utterly mad. I suppose it is quite a pointy sort of name.

I am hoping not to get a phone call this week too. My midwife said they would call within 48 hours if there was a problem. The hospital said they would call by the end of the week of there were a problem. I'm half expecting to come out as high because of my age. At 39 I am automatically a 1:150 of Downs which is high risk.

SquealyB · 10/07/2012 10:33

Good luck Crafty - hope it all goes well.

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/07/2012 10:55

mrsbugsywugsy I did a festival at five months, but it was All Tomorrow's Parties which is a rather civilised affair and held at a Butlins. The biggest issue for me at the time was killer backache and not being able to stand for long. I was grateful for the proper beds as I think camping would have done me in. Can you take a fold up camping chair to sit on between bands?

We are ok for boys names. I just can't find a girl's name I LOVE. Luckily we pretty much agree on names so no disagreements over it, just a lack of inspiration.

On the food front I have eaten nothing but buttery toast, buttery jacket potatoes and strawberry yogurts for about a fortnight now. If I even think of anything else my stomach turns. Bizarrely I hadn't eaten a yogurt for years before this pregnancy!

CraftyGirly · 10/07/2012 11:41

I'm finally home from the hospital! scan was amazing, the little one was kicking around and it was so surreal as I couldnt feel any of what it was doing on the screen! was in there a while as she was finding it hard to get a measurement for the nuchal fold (little bugger wouldnt keep still! takes after it's dad obviously Grin ) but did eventually and said it looked OK to her but obv the true results will come in post after bloods etc. Just got the one pic, it was £5 even though the letter we had said it would be £3! cheeky sods!

MarasmeAbsolu · 10/07/2012 11:57

have projectile vomited at work yesterday - nice.
Just as I thought I was over this kind of stuff.

Got my bloods done also (here they do not do the AFP bloods at same time as NF scan?). Had a student midwife who tried to feed me the natural birth spiel despite ELCS being written in big and bold on my notes. Kept asking me if this baby would be a boy or a girl. Kept telling her that at 14wks, I did not know. She kept asking whether my first was a girl or a boy.... I kept telling her DD is a girl.... depressing conversation.
She then proceeded to tell me that she would not look for the fetal heartbeat because it was "way too early" - then tried to do my bloods, and did not have a tourniquet.

Managed to scare her off (weedy veins and big bruises from last time) and the midwife came in at that point, did tell the student off for not doing fetal heart beat (which she found in a matter of seconds) took bloods in no time...

allchik · 10/07/2012 12:19

Thanks Spring and Bugs just woke up!!! Feeling much better and have managed to keep some breakfast down. My nausea started straight away....its how I knew I was pregnant...at first it was all day nausea but wasn't really sick, then it turned to retching all the time, then at 10 weeks the sickness started. Now its not every day...I often get a days break in between, but when it happens its a lot worse.....and the constant headache that goes with it is even worse. I've lost count the amount of times I've been sick at work...but often once I'm ill Im kind of ok again....but this morning I was a sobbing mess so prob best I didn't go in!
Think I was just very naive and expected to get to 13 weeks and magically feel better!! The thought of going back to school in September and STILL feeling like this is depressing!

Marasme that sounds like a nightmare! Its a bit of a joke between my hubby and I that I always get student medical people...dont normally mind but would be pissed off if that happened! Ive got my midwife appointment a week on Monday, I'll be 16 weeks, will he definitely be able to find a heartbeat by then dya think???? xxx

Hope everyone is ok :)

Lora1982 · 10/07/2012 12:40

men are selfish and annoying.... jus sayin.

Pascha · 10/07/2012 12:49

Craftygirly glad your scan went well. Am a bit Shock at the price of your picture though! I got 3 pics and all for a voluntary donation. There are signs on the wall but no money was mentioned and I had to ask where the collection tin was - locked away in the sonographers drawer and brought out on request.

Marasme I had a student in my 12 week scan but she was very new and just watched and asked questions. I got the feeling this was the first she had seen as she was just as excited as us to see it all on the monitor. Sounds to me like your student was left alone too soon, the MW should have stayed in the room to intervene when necessary.

Last pregnancy I had a student in with my community MW at ?28 weeks, when I lay down on the couch for fundal measurement and HB check she brought out an old fashioned ear trumpet thing instead of the usual doppler, apparently they are all taught to use them in case the doppler breaks but she had no chance of hearing my baby as the little sod was breech and hiding on the other side of my tummy. 5 or 6 minutes she spent with her ear to my abdomen turning this way and that, looking more and more worried. I wasn't concerned, I could feel him dancing the light fandango on my cervix Hmm. In the end the normal MW came over and did what the student hadn't - feel for position first, then listen in the right place. Of course HB was good and strong Smile. Students have to learn somehow but not sure I appreciated being prodded and poked quite so much. I suspect my MW knew i'm easy-going and deliberately let me be used as a teaching aid, I didn't mind really.

Pascha · 10/07/2012 12:52

Yes they are Lora Wink. Any particular reason or just in general?

Birdies · 10/07/2012 12:59

newbie I don't think you'll get the dreaded phone call today, I'm sure with these things as soon as they know they ring (regardless of what they say). Definitely better for you to go out though, you'll go insane staring at the phone!

Crafty good news re scan. I paid £5 too but got about 7 pics (meant to be 3 they printed too many by mistake). It was only £3 last year, bit of a rip-off but as if we'd ever refuse pics of our babbas, whatever the price! I guess that's why they can get away with charging whatever they feel like.

BuntyCollocks · 10/07/2012 13:11

Great news, crafty!

I also think you won't get that phonecall, newbie.

My nausea has also resurfaced, tends to be about 4pm onwards, not pleasant, so I'm back on the avomine.

allchik, I'm sure they'll find the heartbeat then :) I have a hi bebe lcd doppler, and have been listening since 13 weeks

I had to pay at the hospital I had my dating scan with in London with DS, it was a fiver per three, but not had to pay for any since. Must depend on the trust area.

lora agreed! Any particular reason?

Hope everyone is well ... 4 days to the big reveal :D

SpringFlowers · 10/07/2012 14:09

Wow at the costs for scan photos! I have four scans and my baby is well photographed - I probably have 15 pictures now and haven't been asked to pay at all!

newbie6 · 10/07/2012 14:35

Hi all,

Got the call, I have a 1 in 7 chance so going to see midwife tomorrow. Don't really know how I feel, I had prepared to be high risk cause of my age and diabetes but maybe not such a high ratio? I had a miscarriage in March at 6 weeks so although I know I can get the CVS or amnio, I am worried if it caused a miscarriage. Oh dear, don't know what to do or think?

Help!

x

SquealyB · 10/07/2012 14:47

Newbie - sorry about your news. In your situation I would consider the following:

1 - what would I do with the results from CVS or amino? Would a high risk make me consider a termination or is that out of the question? If that is out of the question than perhaps it is not worth the risks associated with CVS/amnio?

2 - if CVS/ amino would help you to either (a) make a decision on termination or (b) help you to get prepared for a wonderful baby that may have a disability then it is worth considering. Given that CVS/amnio miscarriage risk is 1:100 it is "lower" than your current risk and if it is likely to help then it is certainly worthwhile considering.

Either way - it is a difficult decision and there is no right answer hon. You and your DP (if applicable) will need to think about it and decide what is right for you in your circumstances. We are all here should you need/want a place to vent your feelings.

SpringFlowers · 10/07/2012 15:30

Newbie - I hope you are ok, it's really difficult to know what to do and I really feel for you. I don't know what I'd do either. I think Squealy gave some good advice. (((hugs))). What does your OH think?

newbie6 · 10/07/2012 15:41

OH is on his way home. I think my mind is made up though. I think I want the CVS done as I don't think I can cope with going through the rest of my pregnancy with this worry on my mind? Damn statistics!

thank you for your replies! xxx

BuntyCollocks · 10/07/2012 15:50

So sorry, newbie. If I were you, I'd research in your area and see who has the best 'statistics' for performing CVS - some have a much lower risk of miscarriage than others, well below the 1:100 that is average. If you find someone like that, and you can afford to go private if required, it might put your mind at rest.

BionicEmu · 10/07/2012 16:31

Sorry to hear you had the phonecall newbie. I agree with Bunty re: researching where to have the CVS done. I know it's obvious (and don't mean to sound patronising) but 1:7 still means 6:7 chance of everything being fine. I guess just take each step as it comes - at least now you've actually made the decision to have the CVS, so I am crossing my fingers and toes for you that it goes well.

I just thought I'd pop in and say hi again - am jealous that almost everyone seems to have had their scans, mine's a week on Thursday so still waiting. The amount of stress this pregnancy's causing with sorting out medicines for pain management and depression, I just want to get the scan done. I know this sounds awful, but I just need to know if this is actually a viable pregnancy or not. Have had no cramping or bleeding, so no reason to think it's not, but all the same, I've seen so many missed miscarriages (at work) I can't shake that worry.

I've been trying not to think about names until after I've had my scan, but can't help but have a little think. The problem I have is I still absolutely love DS's name, so weirdly feel some sort of pressure to come up with something equally as lovely for DC2, and I'm stuck. Ah well, no point worrying about it yet.

While I'm here on the laptop instead of my phone, I shall update the list with my scan date - am I actually the last one of us then?

Sorry to hear that newbie

I haven't had to pay for any scan photos ye. My first scan was at 9 weeks, didn't have to pay for that one as it was ust a blob, and the sonographer said he wouldn't charge me for the two he gave me at the 12 week scan.

I thought my morning sickness was on the way out at the weekend, but yesterday and today it seems to have gotten worse. Does it get worse before it goes?! Heartburn is back with a vengeance in the evenings too.

allchik · 10/07/2012 17:05

Hey newbie I would also say to research into having a child with ds,maybe visit some parent support groups?Ive taught (in a mainstream school) a few children with ds,who were bright, loving and treated completly as 'one of us' by the other children...as others have said the odds r still in ur favour to have a baby without ds,but perhaps talking to mums who have ds children may help? Hope u get a positive outcome x x x

theboutiquemummy · 10/07/2012 17:41

Oh newbie big hugs, I've had the call today about my booking in appointment bloods and there's something wrong with mine hoping that it's all down to having terrible morning sickness n nothing else serious
Going tomorrow to have more drawn but when I got to the surgery she wouldn't let me have the blood thingy that they go in Angry so I could at least read what it was for will try n peak tomorrow x

mrsbugsywugsy · 10/07/2012 18:30

Newbie I'm sorry it is worrying news. As others have said, you have a 6 in 7 chance that the baby won't have ds.

boutique would they not tell you what was wrong with your bloods? Perhaps your iron levels are low, from the ms?

Apparently my hospital charge £5 for the scan photo too Shock. I can just imagine DP will probably try to take a photo of the screen with his mobile phone camera, to save the money.

Pascha I'm only going for the Friday, and definitely want to see Soundgarden and Iggy Pop. I think if it is sunny we will head there early and see some other bands but if it pours with rain I will be tempted to just get there in time for the headliners. Chutes their website says camping chairs aren't allowed, so I will take a picnic blanket instead and hope it doesn't pour with rain. Someone has given me a London Transport 'baby on board' badge which I will wear in the hope that it stops people from shoving into me!

Birdies · 10/07/2012 18:40

Oh Newbie I felt sure you would get good results, poor you. I think I would be the same, I'd just worry through the rest of my pregnancy. Though I don't know if I could go through a termination if I was the 1 in 7. Keep us posted on what you decide. Perhaps ask for the experience of the person doing the CVS for extra comfort?
