StormBird · 29/06/2012 19:34

Thank you ladies, I'd lived in hope for 6 weeks but had prepared myself for the worst considering this PG was not planned and I had not been taking my high strength folic acid (which believe it or not would've probably prevented this from happening again - I could kick myself). I'm back at the hospital again on Monday so they can administer drugs to suppress my hormones and then Wednesday I will be induced!!
It's a very complicated and fragile thing creating a life....this I have learned over the years. Like I said, sending lots of luck and love to you all Smile xxx

CraftyGirly · 29/06/2012 20:10

on the blood test note, my midwife tried 2 times from 1 arm and 1 from the other and STILL didn't get any blood out. I have ridiculously luminous blue veins and pasty white skin either so it's not like my veins are hard to find, no ones ever had a problem before! she told me it was because I was too nervous Hmm well that might have something to do with her treating me as a human pincushion!

I ended up having to go to the blood bank at hospital to have my bloods taken, where they did it first time!

theboutiquemummy · 29/06/2012 21:48

So sorry storm my heart goes out to you Sad big hugs x

theboutiquemummy · 29/06/2012 21:56

I had the same problem with my midwife the nurse at the Drs said they don't do blood very much x

BuntyCollocks · 29/06/2012 22:27

I think I can beat you all with a blood taking story. I have crap veins, even got turned away from donating blood as they couldn't make me bleed!

Anyway, midwife comes to take my blood Wednesday night, 13+5, only one day left to get it for nt test. No success first time. Or second. Or third. Or indeed the sixth. I filled the sharps box.

Had to go to my doctors for an emergency appt next morning, who were most put out, and she's taken it from halfway down my arm ("very unusual place"), and given me a whopping haematoma and lump on my arm. So seven times in total to get one tiny vial of blood!

Pascha · 30/06/2012 10:33

Oh Stormbird I've just read your news, I'm so sorry Sad. I hope everything goes ok next week for you and your family.

Ouch Bunty! Poor you and Boutique and Crafty and all of you with rubbish veins and rubbish phlebotomists. My veins were bulging and full of blood and very easy to deal with. Nurse was straight in, 10 secs filling the vial, straight out again. No bruise at all. I was in there max 45 seconds.

Godzookey how shit are your hospital? I can't believe that you have had to book a private scan! If I were you I would be making a nuisance of yourself to the midwifery team at the hospital first thing monday morning and shouting very very loudly. Very Angry for you indeed.

AprilMeadow · 30/06/2012 11:04

Storm, I am so sorry to read of your news. Sending lots of love and hugs x

Chutes, lovely to see that you heard your little ones HB x

Things are ticking along with me. My dh is having the big V on Tuesday. I keep chuckling but him, not so much :)

godzookey · 30/06/2012 11:55

Morning Ladies
Pascha - funnily enough i'm going to get on the blower to them right now - taking me ages to even find the number online, no doubt i'll get another answer phone but will keep you posted!

Bunty - oh god, am turning green just thinking about it! x

godzookey · 30/06/2012 12:00

Ok, Pascha you were right, seems they don't work on a Saturday - but at least I think i now have the right number ( number i found online wasn't correct but have been given what i hope is the correct one now)

Am glad to be having scan tomorrow but roll on Monday 9:01am when i can give the hospital merry hell!! Wink

Pascha · 30/06/2012 12:32

We'll all be cheering you on zookey

Hello April hows things for you? DH is planning on doing that as soon as they allow him to. I will be pushing him all the way to the surgery Grin.

A friend took her husband and a friend's husband who had appointments following each other to the surgery for the snip, on the way they had an accident - a lorry coming down the hill scraped her car coming up the hill(not badly) so they were a bit late. She still carried on and got them there though, told them tough shit nothing was going to stop them having it done!

The friend's husband unfortunately got an infected haematoma about 5 days post-op and ended up in hospital with a bollock the size of a melon Shock. He's fine now though...

eleda · 30/06/2012 12:32

Oh storm, I'm so sorry! I hope next week goes as smoothly for you as it can. We'll be thinking of you xxx

I've got my scan on Monday. It feels like we've been waiting for an eternity!
I'm starting to panic a little as up until about a week ago I was feeling huge and considering buying some maternity trousers, whereas now I just feel normal. Jeans seem to fit just like before! Anyone else lost that bloated feeling?

And I had been ravenous but now I can't be bothered to eat! Is it just me?
Still have massive sore boobs though!

Pascha · 30/06/2012 12:40

The lack of bloated feeling is probably related to the not wanting to eat! Think about it, you've (probably) been shovelling anything carb-related in as fast as you can, all that starch makes you bloaty, now you've stopped feeling so hungry so much less starch = stomach back to normal size. The baby is still sat in your pelvis rather than higher up and its only 4-5cm long so if its a first pregnancy there's not likely to be much of a bump at all yet. My first pregnancy I didn't stop wearing normal jeans til about 18 weeks I think, and I didn't actually look pregnant til nearer 6 months.

eleda · 30/06/2012 13:10

Hmm.....you may have a point there pascha!!
So you think those Danish pastries and Chinese, oh and Galaxy could have been to blame for me feeling so big!?? Blush

And yes, first pregnancy - ok maybe I'll calm down a bit then. It is just so disconcerting when you start feeling 'normal'.

And on the snip convo - DB is booked in for his and his friend ended up with a bollock the size of a melon too. I'd say he's a little nervous!

Pascha · 30/06/2012 13:29

Its crisp sandwiches here Grin. The early second trimester is odd, all your symptoms can virtually disappear, loads of energy, normal appetite, no visible bump, too soon to feel any kicks, heartbeat can't always be found easily... you start wondering if its all real. Very disconcerting.

theboutiquemummy · 30/06/2012 15:00

Pascha I can't wait for this carb phase and sickness to be over I've just hit the 12 mark I want to feel better n start enjoying being pregnant

ChutesTooNarrow · 30/06/2012 15:14

Thank you april, I hope all goes well on tuesday for your DH.

stormbird I am sorry to hear your news.

bunty your blood story makes me feel a bit ill. I hate having blood taken, thankfully it was alright last week although I was a massive wuss about it. In my last pregnancy I had a student midwife mangle my arm trying to get blood and I fainted on about the fifth attempt. Now I question any potential blood takers until I am sure they are a master of it!

I don't remember wearing maternity clothes until about 22ish weeks last time. I just looked fat rather than pregnant for ages, and made do with the next size or two up figuring I would need bigger sizes anyway for a few months years after birth.

AprilMeadow · 30/06/2012 16:49

I'm good thank you. It seems that AF has returned already and can't say I'm enjoying it! Although i guess on the positive side of things at least my body is returning to normal. My boss (one of my friends) is 22wks pg with her 1st and it was lovely to see her scan last week, although i was hoping she would find out the sex but she held firm and didn't.

Dh has done A LOT of research, he has read about it and watched videos (he is a bit weird). We haven't told the Dr about the MC as we are sure they wouldn't have allowed it so quickly. We have been talking about it for about 3 years and in that time we have had 3 pregnancies. I have always held back given that it is so final and we are still only in our early 30's, but recent events have made me realise that I couldn't do the pg thing again as i would be a nervous wreck.

I'm not sure how sympathetic i will be given i had 3 of my 4 dc's without pain relief!! He is in America at the moment and i have just face timed him and was laughing about it. I will not be winning wife of the year for 2012

I always found that I packed on the weight in the 1st trimester and then it evened its way out during the 2nd and early 3rd.

I don't know if it would be of any interest but i have a fair few pairs of maternity shorts and vest tops all in a size 10. The shorts are by Jojo Maman Bebe and some linen ones from Next. Not sure if they will be needed as i think Summer has passed us by, but if anyone is interested then just shout. I was going to pop them on ebay along with some jeans and some other bits and bobs.

DontmindifIdo · 30/06/2012 17:11

Hi all, dark bleeds last night and today, I know it's only red blood you need to worry about, but still panicking, I didn't bleed with DS. I ache too like just before AF, doesn't seem good...

Still no scan date through so I've got to call up the hospital on Monday.

All in all, this might not have been the best week to start potty training DS...

AprilMeadow · 30/06/2012 18:27

Dontmindifido, I know it's hard, but try to keep calm. Like you said, it's only bright red blood that you need to worry about and even then that doesn't always mean the worst. If you can try and rest, easier said than down with small ones. Sending you positive thoughts x

happyhow · 01/07/2012 10:10

I'm starting to feel less tired now which is good. Only slightly though... I'm even less bothered about cooking and I can't make a decision on any food that I want. I much prefer if someone tells me what I'm having!

Last time the midwife took blood from me (it was a trainee one) I had a massive bruise that took 2 weeks to disappear! I had to tell my pupils I'd walked into a door handle... Got my bloods taken at my scan by a dr and there was barely a mark.

I'm visiting my mum this weekend and she still can't believe I'm pregnant. I'm the youngest of 4 and this will be the first grandchild. We're going to look at maternity/baby stuff so it feels more real! I've avoided it before now but now I know that the sprog is doing well, I'm prepared to look and maybe even buy...!

octanegirl · 01/07/2012 10:15

Hello all - I was sick for first time yesterday - but it was seasickness as I couldn't take any of the pills I normally take. Awful!
I've got my scan on Tuesday. I'm really nervous but at least it's in the morning so I don't have to wait all day.
Other than that I'm fed up of having such a bloated tummy all the time. Will that get better?

Tugstonia · 01/07/2012 14:42

How are you doing Dontmind? Hope all is ok x

DontmindifIdo · 01/07/2012 15:34

Hi Tugs, well, more blood over night, more today, it's not heavy, and not red so trying not to panic. Other than that, dealing with feeling like death because I couldn't sleep and normal pregnancy tiredness and dealing with a toddler who's really not keen on potty training is not making for a joyful weekend. Am going to get stroppy with the hospital tomorrow so that I get a scan date asap - if I've lost it I want to know as soon as, not in 3 weeks.

On the bright side my SIL has just had a little girl, so I'm an aunty, I'll have a snuggly newborn to cuddle soon anyway!

godzookey · 01/07/2012 15:56

Afternoon Ladies,

Thought i'd check in and let you know that i've just come back from my private scan and all looks great - i even shed a few tears which surprised DH as he says I don't tend to show emotion in public ( I didn't cry walking down the aisle whereas he was in floods !)

All a bit touch and go if i'd even get there today as had chronic food poisoning - or reaction to summat, won't go into the detail so had to cancel my appt at lunchtime and luckily they had a space later this pm. Still feel a bit rough - i'm not sure if it was the fact that i caved in and had eggs benedict at lunch yesterday and then lemon meringue pie in the evening, body maybe rejecting eggs now???

Anyway, off to look at my scan photos but still on for giving my hospital merry hell as NEED that combined scan within the next 10 days!

godzookey · 01/07/2012 15:59

Dontmind -definitely give them HELL!! Hope you can try and get a nice early night tonight and plenty of r&r for the rest of the day!! x
