SilverSixpence · 28/06/2012 11:23

Well I'm in maternity trousers at only 10 weeks Blush. I look very pregnant but it's not so obvious when dressed, so far people haven't guessed! The trousers are from Mamas & Papas (from ebay) and are really comfortable. They have a good sale on but nothing is in my size, they had a lovely dress which was full price 3 days ago and is now half price but most of the sizes sold out.

We're going to Paris at the weekend to stay with DH's friend.. don't really feel like it though! All the packing, long journey and walking...someone tell me to stop being ridiculous Grin

LowLu · 28/06/2012 12:41

Hey ladies, can I join you! I'm 13 weeks and had my scan this morning. It was lovely to see baby wriggling around and a relief that all is ok! Due date is 2nd Jan. This will be DC2, we have an energetic DS who is 2.4. Very excited and happy! I'll add myself to the list.

mrsbugsywugsy · 28/06/2012 12:41

hello everyone,

after weeks of complaining about the lack of summer, it has finally arrived and...I am really suffering in the heat! Our office is so stuffy and I just want a little nap at my desk. Pah!

Sixpence go to Paris and have a lovely time, and tell your DH that he will be carrying all of the bags, and you will decide when you have done enough walking and it is time for a long sit down in a nice cafe somewhere. Will you tell DH's friend that you are pg?

happy I'm sure your DP is just a bit nervous about telling people. I think men feel pretty similar emotions to us most of the time, but just aren't always very good at expressing them.

I don't think anyone would guess I am pg yet, but am an apple shape and I normally have a bit of a fat belly so I wear clothes designed to hide this anyway. I like wrap tops & dresses, and anything empire line.

I'm trying not to think about the birth yet! I mean, plenty of people do it more than once, so it can't be that bad can it ?

DontmindifIdo · 28/06/2012 13:15

Happyhow - if it makes you feel any better, DH was very nervous about telling his parents when we were expecting DC1 - he said it felt like he should be about to be told off for getting a "girl in trouble", and even though we'd been married for just over a year at the time, he said he still felt akward about admitting to them we had sex Grin - PIL's super over-excited reaction stopped any worries! (MIL, who to this point had been very cold and formal at all times with me, burst into tears, hugged and thanked me, and we've had a great relationship ever since.)

I've still not got a scan date, I got a call back from the midwives this morning who said they'd called the hospital who assurred me that I'm a priority for a booking as I'm 10 weeks now, they said if I didn't get my letter by Monday I should call the hospital directly. (I told a white lie, DH is going away when I'm 14 weeks, I said I was too and so they will make sure it's week 12 or 13 - at least I won't have to face bad news on my own then).

DontmindifIdo · 28/06/2012 13:20

Mrsbugsywugsy - worrying about it makes no difference, it's in there now, it's coming out one way or another and there's little you can do about it! I won't lie, it bloody hurts, but it's amazing how you quickly forget the pain when you're holding a snuggly newborn.

mrsbugsywugsy · 28/06/2012 13:38

Did anyone else see the bit in Frozen Planet where the Polar Bear gave birth in her sleep? That's my birth plan, ha ha ha.

Anyone else fancying a water birth DH is being very level headed about us not being able to have the birth we want. He says he doesn't want me to be dissappointed. Meeeh

allchik · 28/06/2012 14:36

Hi ladies...hope everyone is loving struggling with the heat (although up north its kinda just really sweaty and muggy bleurgh!

Firstly - Im so glad I asked the 'sex' question! Feel much more reasured lol, and have told my hubby that most of the mumsnetters aren't up for it...(think he's quite jealous....walked off mumbling something about starting a dadsnet but 'we probably wouldnt have anything interesting to discuss' bless :)

boutique I really, really want a water birth...or at least the option to try it for pain relief while I am in labour. Im from Leeds and am going to go to the LGI (where one born every min has been filmed from recentley) but they only have 2 or 3 pools so it will be case of fingers crossed.....or I could go to the other hospital where there are no pools but the rooms have baths in where you can lie to labour.....may have to talk it through with my midwife.
Have any mums had a water birth??? What did you think???

I'm so silly excited about reaching my 2nd trimester...anyone else??? Im waiting to bloom, have lush skin, loads of energy and no more vomming! (I fear this may be wishfull thinking!) xxx

Lora1982 · 28/06/2012 15:19

ooh id love a water birth... i think tye benefits of pain relief and having the baby given a 'bit of a bath' before its handed over will help me feel less icky :-D unles im at the point where i couldnt care less. My friend was saying when she went into laboutlr she was trying to leave the house in just her tshirt cos she was passed caring and her mum wa like 'get back here right now and put some pants on!!'
allchik im a bit gutted cos my face was spotless and gorgeous all through the so called nasty first trimester and now the spots are starting :'( proably karma cos i didnt suffer with much sickyness or anything.
Hope everyones happy and well xx

Tugstonia · 28/06/2012 16:19

So sorry to see there's been some sad news about scans :( Big hugs to you all. Very happy for those who've had good ones :)

No interest in sex here either allchik! My OH is very patient luckily.

Am also very spotty Lora and hope to god they bugger off in the 2nd trimester. Hope yours are just a blip and disappear too.

I'll be 11 weeks tomorrow and this weekend I'm away with a bunch of v close friends and wondering about how to conceal my not drinking or whether to come clean. I'm hoping they'll be discreet if they are suspicious given two of them have kids themselves. I'm a crap liar and they wouldn't fall for any antibiotics bollocks. I really don't want to tell anyone else before the scan (11 days to go!), even though I've had an early scan already. OH doesn't want to tell anyone til after the scan, not even his parents. What shall I do?? I'm going to take some Becks Blue and try to be sly about it. Maybe if they ask I'll just not answer and they'll hopefully get the message!

Also, I had to tell my manager the other day (and swear him to secrecy) cos I took Monday off after my scare last weekend. He was good about it but asked me "was it planned?" which REALLY annoyed me. It's none of his damn business if it was "planned"! Am I just being majorly over-sensitive?!

BionicEmu · 28/06/2012 16:31

Tugs During my last pregnancy, when I told people at work several of them asked me if it was planned! I was rather taken aback. It had never occurred to me to ask somebody something that personal before, but I came to the conclusion that some people end up feeling awkward when it comes to pregnancy as they have no idea what to say, and that stupid "is it planned?" question just comes out of their mouths.

Wasn't allowed a water birth with DS, and doubt I'll be allowed one this time either - consultant-led all the way. Which I'm fine with TBH, it's what's best for me and baby, even if it means we don't get a pool (they'd better get me remifentanyl this time though or I will not be held responsible for my actions!)

Question - does anyone else have breast leakage yet? Shock (Sorry if TMI!) I never had any when pregnant with DS, but this morning my pj top had unmistakeable little wet patches on it. I then gave my nipples a tiny squeeze and bam - colostrum. WTAF? I'm only 9 or 10 weeks pregnant! Is this normal? Or even ok?!

mrsbugsywugsy · 28/06/2012 17:17

my mum asked me if it was planned!

Birdies · 28/06/2012 17:31

I HATE the 'was it planned' question. I think it's bloody rude. We got it from several people, should have told them to f-off. Can you tell I don't like it lol?!! I think it's true that it pops into people's heads when they dont know what else to say, but I'm sure I have never asked anyone else that.

The other slightly less annoying question is whether we will find out if it's a girl or a boy, just because it gets asked by everyone. The answer of course is: "we already know it's a girl or a boy" :)

Birdies · 28/06/2012 18:09

PS mrsbugsy re the birth, I used a mama tens machine (you can get them from amazon), would highly recommed, and I don't remember any bad pain until I had a couple of stitches in the fanjo (now that hurt a lot, but it was over very quickly!)

Brugmansia · 28/06/2012 18:27

We've been starting to tell people even though I'm only 9 weeks. We told our family pretty much straight away. It's a first grandchild on both sides and they're very excited. Since the scan we've been telling friends if we've spent time with them at social events and I'm not drinking.

It's just a matter of personal preference, but I've decided I don't want people speculating, which I expect will happen if I am not drinking. Based on the scan and I've had no concerning symptoms since the risk is probably pretty low. If the worst does happen, for me it is going to affect me more the further along I am, in which case if people already know there'll be less to explain.

I'm seeing some close friends this weekend who I'll also be telling then. One lives abroad so it will be my only chance to tell her in person.

tugs, do your friends you're seeing know you had been trying? Or would you be ok telling them you are? You could just say you're not drinking because you're hoping to get pg and are being cautious just in case.

DontmindifIdo · 28/06/2012 18:47

Tugs - time to wheel out my trusted 'difficult not drinking' answer - firstly, don't give an elaborate excuse why you're not drinking, you will sound like you're pregnant and making a fuss, most non-pregnant woman who just don't fancy drinking just say "don't feel like it" - or "not feeling 100%, best start with something soft" and then stay on the something soft.

Secondly, any direct question should be deliberately mis-interpreted so: if anyone says "are you pregnant" you answer with "Oh my god! I've gained a couple of pounds, but do you really think I look pregnant!??" they will say something about you not drinking which you ignore again and go with "I thought I looked really good in this dress, do you think it's too clingy on my tummy? I'm never wearing it again!" your friends will then leap to tell you how gorgeous you look in that dress, how of course you don't look pregnant, and how slim you are... Wait for the one who asked to go to the loo, say again to others "be honest, do I look big?" again, you'll get lots of sympathetic comments.

Works really well... right up to the point when you reveal you are actually pregnant and you get lots of "I knew it!" comments.

DontmindifIdo · 28/06/2012 18:49

Oh and this one is planned, I'm fully intending to tell anyone rude enough to ask that I just got drunk Grin

DontmindifIdo · 28/06/2012 18:51

Tugs another option is to get your DH/P to e-mail said friends, saying that he's bet you £100 that you can't go a weekend with those friends without drinking as you lot are all lushes - and they are to report back if you do.

Then while they will say "of course we won't tell" you can say "No, I've got a point to prove and I will win this!"

Birdies · 28/06/2012 19:04

Tugs I've just thought - when I was trying to hide it I used to get a bottle of normal beer (becks is good as the green colour conceals what's inside!) and would pour the beer down the loo and refill with appetiser. Its a pain and a waste of beer, but it worked a treat. Then you just enjoy pretending to be drunk!! Oh but keep your drink close in case someone drinks yours by mistake :)

mrsbugsywugsy · 28/06/2012 19:11

DontmindifIdo the problem with your second idea is, my kindhearted friends would probably sneak vodka shots into my drink!

Can you tell one person you are close to, then get them to be your 'drinking buddy'. So buy rounds only with them, and whenever they go to the bar ask them for 'vodka and coke' which they know means only coke.

I like the idea of the Tens machine, thanks Birdies

godzookey · 28/06/2012 19:33

hi all
OK MAJOR rant today - so the guy that sits opposite me at work phones in sick and says that he's either got mumps or glandular fever - GREATT!!

There is a girl who's 7 months pregnant so he was concerned for her which is fine as no one knows about me but not sure what that means.

I still have no scan date and i'm circa 12 weeks, can i use this as an excuse to phone and DEMAND scan date if i say annoying burk opposite me has one of the above to get me moved up the list.
It really panicked me but of course couldn't let on to anyone why i felt panicked, this whole not telling anyone is becoming quite isolating :(

Tell me what you think ladies!!!

DontmindifIdo · 28/06/2012 19:52

godzookey - have you had the mumps as a child or the MMR? If so, you should be fine with that. not sure on glandular fever, you should call your midwive and ask.

Re being 12 weeks and no date - you need to call up tomorrow and get difficult, if you want the combined test they can't do that after 14 weeks so it's got to be within the next fortnight, you should have your date now (if you weren't thinking of having the combined test, that might be why they've pushed you back).

godzookey · 28/06/2012 20:08

Hey Don'tmind

I can't remember truth be told. I don't even know who my midwife is, when i saw the community midwife at the hospital, she kept a load of notes and then said i'd get them presumably with details of actual midwife, when i pick them up at the scan.

Is the combined test when they test for Down's - i'm so ignorant, if so then i definitely would want that - being classified as an older mum i think at the grand old age of 35!!

DontmindifIdo · 28/06/2012 20:24

yes, the combined is the Downs test. Call up the general community midwife number for the hospital (I also could only tell you the name of the one I'm booked on by looking at the name on my notes, it doesn't really matter, you can talk to any of them), they definately need to get you booked in before end of 14 weeks. Mention you want the combined test and are concerned you'll run out of time. (The combined one is a blood test along with them taking measurements on the scan, they can only get those measurements acurate at 12-14 weeks)
