Hi everyone, as we were close to the 1000 message limit i thought i should start a new thread so we could link this one (and we don't all end up wandering in cyberspace for a few days again Grin)

Spotty, pm me and we'll work out where half way is. They're both on the West Quay estate, opposite McD's and Toys R Us. M+P is over the road between Marlands and JL :)

Quick question is anyone an expert on slings?? I'm thinking this could be my saviour when doing housework or just normal bits with ds's when babies here but it all seems very complicated! I'd like something quite simple to put on and something I could breastfeed in. Not looking for something hugely expensive as it'll just be for home. Any suggestions?

SpottyTeacakes · 21/06/2012 16:39

I'm no expert but know someone who loves their moby, I think they're quite cheap so a good starter

Stacks · 21/06/2012 16:42

Afternoon. Just a quick check in from me again. Glad people have had good scans. There was a sign up at our hospital saying they charged for photos, but we then got them for free.. I think it was only £1 each.

My 16w appointment isn't till I'm 17w (5th July), so still got to wait a while. I've never met 'my' midwife, she was on holiday at my booking in appointment, and I think will be on holiday again for this appointment. The girl I did see was nice though, and suggested it might be her I see again for this appointment. It would be nice to have some continuity, but not that important yet I'm guessing.

I bought the 'What to expect when you're expecting' book. It's good so far, with lots of info I didn't know on things like diet e.g. which sugar substitutes are bad for the baby. It is American, so talks a bit about how to choose your health care provider, but lots of the info is useful here too. There's also a description of each of the scans and tests, what's involved in them, how long they should take etc. Some reassuring info on the Down's testing too, and how many false-positives and false-negatives are generally associated with the different testing methods. Anyway, useful book, and I think only £8 from Amazon.

Find a slingmeet, most have a library where you can try them out and hire ones youlike. Think my local one charges £3-4 per month :)

Stacks · 21/06/2012 16:44

COD - look up "ring slings" apparently easy to make yourself, or cheap to buy. I've heard a few people marveling at how good, comfortable, and simple they are. I think I'll probably go to one of these 'sling meet' things close to having the baby, there are also sling libraries where you can borrow slings to try and see if you like them. It all depends on your local area, but maybe worth a google search.

CODwidow · 21/06/2012 16:51

I keep hearing about sling meets so will have to find one nearer the time, thank you Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 21/06/2012 16:57

I work where there's farming land and I just had to phone the farmer to tell him one of the calves is dead! It wouldn't normally bother my but I want to cry poor mummy cow Sad

Chloe55 · 21/06/2012 17:22

I have a ring sling and baby bjorn, dh loves the ring sling but I couldn't quite get on board with it, loved the baby bjorn but no good for breast feeding x

Chloe55 · 21/06/2012 17:23

Ooh how very unmumsnetty-I forgot I was posting and not texting Grin

PurplePidjin · 21/06/2012 17:31

SpottyTeacakes · 21/06/2012 17:35

Yay I got some maternity jeans! They only had size six left but they're stretchy Grin £12 in the sale from mamas & papas

CODwidow · 21/06/2012 18:00

I need to find some decent fitting maternity jeans as I'm sure i'm going to wake up one day and not fit in my trousers. Dh has a day off next wed which is also payday so may drag him round to find a pair

JoJoB77 · 21/06/2012 18:04

Im not sure what i'm more Envy at, the £12 jeans or the size 6 part Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 21/06/2012 18:19

GrinGrin I'm normally an 8/10 but my legs are skinny so luckily they fit!

I think leggings are generally the best bet!

Willyoudothefandango · 21/06/2012 18:26

Rant alert! Letter through today to let me know that the antenatal unit has lost my hep b sample again (2nd time) so can I make yet another appt to have it redone? I hate blood tests [stroppy emoticon]. Glad to hear everyone's scans went well

Willyoudothefandango · 21/06/2012 18:42

Also pidjin I am now in bits! Those pictures need a stronger warning!

MyDaydream · 21/06/2012 18:58

I just googled sling library and my town. Came up with my local library and they also offer a fitting/advice service for about £30. You get a trial before baby comes and another once baby is born and the use of some slings for the first month. Im going to get in touch closer to the time as it seems like a really helpful service.

CODwidow · 21/06/2012 19:01

I've done the same daydream and they have one in a library nr me you can go and chat to others and try different ones so I think I'll do that nearer the time

ISpyPlumPie · 21/06/2012 20:07

Thanks for all the info about slings - something I've been thinking about too. Seemed to do nothing but bf/carry DS around at first (would not be put down!) so think a decent sling will be essential when sorting out a toddler as well.

Didn't get to hear heartbeat afterall today as the mw didn't have a doppler with her. Everything else was fine though, and she wasn't nearly as rushed as usual. Managed to have quite a good chat with her about home births too. We're really undecided at the moment, and I've got about a million random questions so it was nice to get answers to some of them. Still lots to think about though!

Glad to hear the scans have gone well, and also really exciting that some people are feeling movements. I keep getting little flutters, but then convincing myself it was just wind! Had an anterior placenta with DS so didn't feel him until much later so it's thrown me a bit. Also have read that you do feel second babies earlier so could be the baby afterall.

QueenofSiberbia - it was one of DS's favorites too and I still know it off by heart>

ellliebelle · 21/06/2012 20:07

well after 3 attempts she finally got all measurements, she has kept my date as 24/12 and i have to ring up next week for my 20 week scan date o and nuchal was in normal range

cod i agree with spotty about moby being good and not too expensive also i know of another parenting forum which specializes in "babywearing" lots of good advice on different slings local meet ups and a board where people sell there old slings just not sure if im supposed to name them on mn i can pm you if you want just let me know

ellliebelle · 21/06/2012 20:10

also wanted to share this

tonight i read "theres a house inside my mummy" at bed time and put the scan picture in the back of the book, when we got to the end dd1 had a massive smile on her face and said" who's that?, is it me? is it dd2?" and when i said no she was like who is it then and i told her it was our baby :) she was like in your tummy? already???

also scan pic and pics of me using slings in the past on profile :)

Mummycox · 21/06/2012 21:18

Evening, almost Friday.

Has anyone started to think about travel system/pram/ car seats? Apologies if I've missed it in previous thread.

Contemplating, after days of panic (how are we going to afford this) and concern (will Pobble be safe), the maxi cosi Mura 3 or 4. Any thoughts?

CODwidow · 21/06/2012 21:25

mummycox we've decided on the bugaboo bee plus as I have a small boot with 7 seats up and need something that's just a one piece fold rather than separate seat unit just due to school run. I've bought a maxi cosi car seat as friend was selling so got it for £10 looks brand new. Hoping to buy at the end of this month.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/06/2012 21:35

Ellie I love there's a house inside my mummy! It's a wonderful book and the kids have found it useful already comparing ( sometimes mummy feels so sick I don't know what to do, but if I had a house in me I'd feel quite poorly too) Smile
