Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nebbo I had flutters very early on. They have now become slightly firmer kicks. I never know for sure which twin it is as they are so close together (more on the right hand side). My guess is twin 1 kicks and moves more. Both were transverse at 17 week scan but I have a feeling twin 2 is now breach which is why I get less movement higher up. I maybe completely wrong though. I would have days of no movement but for the last week I have been having kicks everyday now. When I wake up every morning I have a weird big bulge above my belly button that I presume is a head?? It is weird and surprising that my uterus has grown so much.

YellowWellies · 15/06/2012 20:46

Good lord ladies - can we natter! I'm busy for a few days and we're onto a new thread and I've ten pages to catch up on between threads. Hope everyone is doing well. Great news for all of those with gender scans and Lane I hope you are recovering well - that must have been v scary - I cycle up here in Orkney but in most of the UK I find drivers are too unused to dealing with cyclists to dare peddle around. We just don't look out for bikes in this country, bar in Oxford or Cambridge where they're a way of life. If it's any compensation, my sister cycled ten miles every day to work until she was 7 months preggers and it totally cured her SPD.

We had our 16 week appointment (at 17 weeks) yesterday and got to hear the heartbeat - it was between 148 and 153 bpm - so no clues on the gender there. It didn't sound like a train or a horse. Hmmmm. The midwife thought it was relatively fast - so perhaps a girl? Was v funny as I've been feeling kicks for a wee while, or certainly fluttery movements - which my DH hasn't managed to feel yet. Well the bump managed to kick the doppler and we all heard the kick like the boom of a gun :) so he believes me now. As for the sex thing. We're the opposite. DH has decided he finds preggers ladies v sexy and I'm finding him v sexy at the mo too! (Always handy) Tis marvellous. Don't feel preggers and don't have to worry about contraception. My only rule is not on the morning of a midwife appointment just in case they have a look see!!! Am loving having my energy back and really making the most of going for walks etc. The bump is definitely here - a lady in Tesco thought I was due next month (cheeky moo!) but I had just pigged out on fish and chips. Ahem. Anyway lots of love to everyone

daisychain76 · 15/06/2012 20:58

Lovely news nervous and congrats missmummy

I have just spent ages going through all the names on the Pampers baby name finder and am still stuck! There's one girl's name I completely love, goes well with DDs name, etc (even tho I'm not finding out, sure its a girl) but DH has gone from saying its a possibility to saying he doesn't like it at all. Thing is, I am convinced it is the right name. Have said he can choose a boys name and I'II choose for a girl, but he is convinced its a girl too so is having none of it. I may have to be sneaky and keep bringing up other names I know he'll hate until he comes round to the one I want.

StuntNun · 15/06/2012 21:19

Bad news for you first-timers, the worrying never stops! I'm sure even when they're grown up I'll be worrying that they're working too hard or not eating right or driving too fast!

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 15/06/2012 21:23

See my DH is like that with my favourite boys name - Gabriel - he just doesn't like it. Pah I reckon I might have to let him have his way on it as I don't want to force it on him. Also by being 'reasonable' he might let me have my way on the girl's name (and I think it's a girl!), I don't know why but I have stronger feelings on picking a girl's name rather than a boys. I might suggest I pick the girl he picks the boy. I'll just have to develop a strong fake belief that I'm having a boy. My favourite girl's name is an old Swedish one Lillemor (pronounced lillamo) and I've loved it since I was a kid.... Am also liking Beatrice, Tabitha, Pela (short for Pelagia which was my Polish nan's name) Marlinna (which combines my sister and late Mum's names) and other odd ones.

Oh big congrats MissMummy on your degree btw - cracking news. And you did the right thing on the flat and the silly moo downstairs wanting that wiring done - you should (if there's a next time) just say, "sorry we're tenants, we'll have to check with the landlord before giving you permission to make any changes to our flat" (I also wonder if her landlord knows she's doing it?) It's a good catch all excuse to stop them hassling you. Does she know you're pregnant? If so, pfffft bad karma to her....

DesperateHousewife21 · 15/06/2012 21:29

I've got 4 names on my girl list so far, dh doesn't have any that he really likes. Trouble is I love them all and want to use all of them! Poor child!

LittleLolly · 15/06/2012 21:50

To those of you who have had already had babies, please can you advise me on where sells the best baby sheets for Moses basket and cot bed. I've been looking at mothercare and mamas and papas. Also, should I buy jersey sheets or flannelette? I'm fussy about sheets and want really soft, cosy, comfy ones! Some of the sheets I've seen (matalan) didn't feel soft at all.

Also, muslin squares... They are available everywhere at massively different prices! Is there a difference in quality or are they all the same once they have sick on?!

Thanks! Smile

Bluetinkerbell · 15/06/2012 21:51

Yellow I love Swedish names! On my list for a girl is Lotta or Erin, for a boy not sure yet... we had Noah on our list last year, but not so sure about it anymore...

NervousAt20 · 15/06/2012 21:51

Thank you ladies Grin we've had a really nice day got some cute girlie things and it makes my whole pregnancy seem/feel more real like omg in actually going to have a daughter! :)

misslaughalot yeh we did make it over then and it was along dive which lots of traffic so we actually only got just over an hour then but tbh we wouldn't have needed much longer, we got quite a few bits but it looks absolutly huge but hardly any of it is for shopping/showrooms, I think it would be an amazing place to go of you were unsure about what pram and nursey things you would like as it had a floor dedicated to each but for all the other bits I was abit disappointed as there was hardly any clothes to look at but there's a nice shopping mall across from it which was nice to walk round next and mother care :)

Congratulations missmummy :)

YellowWellies · 15/06/2012 21:56

Wooo Lotta is lovely but it doesn't go with our surname - Payne! Grrr... so awkward. I'm joking that it's going to be Wayne or Elaine Payne...

Bluetinkerbell · 15/06/2012 22:02

It is lovely :) DD1 has already decided that if it's a girl, it will be named Lotta :) bless her!
We do have the added difficulty of the name has to be pronounced the same in English as in Dutch, which is not easy...

Chunkychicken · 15/06/2012 22:02

LittleLolly try Asda. Really cheap & reasonable quality, do blue, pink & cream/white options on bedding & muslins, do you can stock up without breaking the bank :)

Sorry, preg brain means I've lost track, but a big CONGRATULATIONS to those with good scans and degrees and so on...Grin

Thank you everyone for the support. Trying to be far more philosophical and think 'fuck him, at my DH isn't a dick much'. Grin

Feeling proper kicks from baby tonight, as had DD sat on my lap drying her hair. Baby always seems to kick when his/her big sister is having a cuddle/close. It's lovely. Feeling s/he might be pink favoured today though, as I'm starting to feel much more like I did with DD - tempting fate now but I might actually be blooming!! Clear skin, bright eyes, glossy, full hair, firm bump, full boobs, no MS, more energy. Def got my sweet tooth back too, which is how I felt with DD... We'll have to wait & see though.

Passmethecrisps · 15/06/2012 22:14

Lots of blethering! all good.

Got my letter today with my blood test results. Apparently I have a 1 in 9624 chance of having a baby with downs. Spina bifida is also marked as beig highly unlikely. All good news.

I am impressed by everyone's organisation looking at Moses baskets and so on. We haven't looked at anything like that. I think I am still in denial that I will have an actual baby. Need to pop to stirling pram centre to have a wee look. We did have a play in John Lewis and were keen on the Uppababy Vista.

Movements have been getting stronger and more noticeable when I am doing other things. Very weird sensation trying to teach with something wiggling about inside you!

Has anyone else already noticed it being uncomfortable sleeping? I try to lie on my left but I feel my bump drags if that makes any sense? It's like he tucks himself away on the right so feels heavy when i lie on my left. So I end up semi on my front but I swear I can feel him wiggling around - in my head it seems like he is trying to get away because he is squished. Then i wake up in the middle of the night on my back with the cat purring contentedly on my bump. Anyone using a pillow yet? Seems so early but last night was pretty awful.

Any nice plans for the weekend?

mrswee · 15/06/2012 22:17

littlelolly John lewis was great for moses basket/crib sheets and plain cot sheets, they have a basic range so not at all expensive. Ikea was great for cot sheets. Both pure cotton stretch with elastic so stay on great.

Still spotting not lots but still happening, I'll call back tomorrow if it hasnt stopped. I thought it had stopped so now feeling a bit down that it hasn't. Slept a lot this afternoon so I'm not sure I'll get to sleep for a while tonight!

YellowWellies · 15/06/2012 22:19

Sleep at night is the bane of my life at the mo - sleep in the morning is a different matter. Have had to put a pillow under one knee and sleep on my tummy with my leg out to one side. The pillow stops bump getting squished. Just can't sleep on my side... need a full body pillow thingy

Evilwater · 15/06/2012 22:20

I've just won a mamas and papas pram with car seat for free, for £145. The pram has got the carry cot.

Evil

Passmethecrisps · 15/06/2012 22:24

Nice one evil!

yellow might have to try the pillow tonight. I know what you mean about night time vs day time sleep. Nap during the day? No problem - asleep in minutes. Night time? Hours of tossing and turning.

MissMummy1 · 15/06/2012 22:24

Thanks YellowWellies! I know for a fact my landlady would have had a fit at the thought of ripping walls apart and the floor up to run a cable through the flat, so I think we made the right decision! No idea if she knows or not, to be honest she must be bloody blind and/or ignorant (probably the latter) not to notice!! We did have a slight chuckle on our way home from dinner tonight at the recent addition of a 'one-for-all' aerial (the flat square box thingy you connect to your freeview to make it work - we have them for all our tvs) sitting at her living room window. A little point proving exercise on her point? I found it amusing anyway.

applepieinthesky · 15/06/2012 22:24

I love John Lewis but we don't have one in our town yet. They are now building one which should be open before Christmas.

passmethecrisps I have used a pillow a couple of times because I like to sleep on my side but my stomach feels quite heavy and uncomfortable when I lay like that.

We have agreed on a name if we have a girl. DP wants Persian names because that's where he's from so we will use Kimiya if it's a girl. Possibly Cyrus for a boy but there are a couple of other possibilities as well. Why are boys names so much harder to choose? There are none I really love. I like Gabriel YellowWellies Smile

MissMummy1 · 15/06/2012 22:24

Also thank you all for the congrats - can't tell you how much of a weight off my mind it is knowing it's all done and dusted!!

Passmethecrisps · 15/06/2012 22:25

Oh, and mrs wee I hope the spotting stops soon - must be concerning. If I nap for half an hour during the day I may as well forget sleeping at night. How does that make sense?

applepieinthesky · 15/06/2012 22:26

Oh wow Evil how did you win it?

MissMummy1 · 15/06/2012 22:27

apple I know what you mean, it's much harder choosing boys names. I kinda liked Angus as a middle name - it was my beloved late grandfather's name and snigger junior was made in Angus just before we move back to Fife! DH's Irish and having none of my Scottish suggestions. Hmmph

Passmethecrisps · 15/06/2012 22:32

Congrats missmummy1 - Job well done! Tutoring sounds like a great idea.

apple I love your names - it's nice to have names which link to heritage. I know exactly what you mean about boy's names. I was getting quite upset at the thought of having a boy because I just didn't love any name. I love the girl's name we have picked so this was making me very anxious. Then one day a name just came to me. I said it to DH and he just replies with "oh well, sounds like we have a boy's name". Now that we have it I feel completely happy with either sex - I almost wish we were having two so we could use both I love them so much!

Evilwater · 15/06/2012 22:36

Apple and pass it a second hand one. My chap does loads on eBay and so he won it for me. I have to pick it up, but for that price it's a steal.

Those that are having trouble sleeping, need to roll on onto the left side. This moves the baby off the one of the major blood vessels.

Apart from my chaps snoring I've slept very well, making sure I keep to the left.
