Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
YellowWellies · 23/06/2012 16:20

Yeah on the surveys - great way to buy something guilt free! I love buying stuff on my boots card points - have my eye on bio-oil when my points get up high enough :)

Lilliana · 23/06/2012 16:36

Nervous some good ideas there for the daddy pack, I'll be borrowing some of those Grin Haven't started on it yet but is on my list of jobs during the summer holidays.

We bought our first things for baby today, we were only going to look as I didn't want to make a big purchase until after the scan ok but the cot bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers we like were on special offer. Dh is convinced all is ok and would have bought the pram/car seat too if he had his way but I managed to out him off until next wednesday.

Am getting a bit nervous about the scan. I keep feeling what I think are movements but they are all in my pelves area so not sure if it is just my innards/wind rather than the baby. Where is everyone else feeling movements? Are they up in your bump or down around the pelvis? Just want to know everything is ok now.

Hope everyone is feeling ok today, I have had 5 nights of no sleep due to hayfever/cough/hip pain so Dh and I are both wondering round looking spaced out and in need of a good sleep before the baby has even arrived! Quiet night for us I think.

YellowWellies · 23/06/2012 17:33

Don't forget some beers for the daddy packs to (practice) wetting the baby's head. I also got DH some baby massage oil and baby bubble bath for the first baths.

Two weeks til our scan and I'm still not feeling movements all that often so I'm with you Lilliana I'm pretty nervous - most nights in bed I feel something but it's so subtle I keep thinking I'm just feeling the placenta pulse as that's at the top of my bump so quite obvious. But I'm always dashing round at the mo' so don't notice it during the day (and have a bit of belly fat probably blocking most sensation, whoopsie, curse my earlier cravings for banoffee pie!). Can't believe how lovely and neat and pretty everyones' bumps are on the FB group - I look like a right lard arse Blush but will put a pic up soon as am being nagged by distant family in RL...

mrswee · 23/06/2012 17:45

YW My bump only looks like that when I've eaten lot of dinner!
Ironically in my first pregnancy I looked fat not pregnant for bloody ages. This time i look like a have a nice neat bump... only it's just fat and food shoved up into a bump shape by the small baby underneath.. it only looks like a bump cause I have naff all stomach muscles and the ones I do have go into a pointy shape when I sit up Hmm still I am as proud of it as I would be if it reallywas full of baby!!

NervousAt20 · 23/06/2012 17:55

Thanks for the ideas on the daddy packs :) I'm going to try and start mine now so I can space the cost out rather then having to get it all in one go.

Had quite a nice day today, brought little one a pink hooded towel with princess on the top and a little baby grow with animals on with a daddy a mummy and me and under neath has my family on which is very cute and on the mother care website there is a lady bug 3 piece set and they didn't have it in store so have ordered it in for me Grin and picked up my bounty pack too

All the ladies worrying about scans try to relax easier said then done and positive thoughts :)

Hope you have all had a good day :)

applepieinthesky · 23/06/2012 18:21

YW We're the same next month. If it's not on the list we're not buying it. We also spend a fortune on food and it has to stop. We have far too many takeaways. Once or twice a month we are going to go out for a nice meal together but no more takeaways, they probably cost us around £2-300 a month which is a lot of money on top of regular food shops.

YellowWellies · 23/06/2012 18:44

I think when we move off the island we might end up spending a fortune on takeaways for a few weeks just for the sheer novelty of having them! We only have fish and chips up here - the Chinese and Indian is just awful, like inedible awful (hence I've been motivated to cook our own courtesy of the Secret Takeaway cookbook and Gok's cookbook). When we fly south to Aberdeen or Edinburgh for a weekend we spend a total FORTUNE on meals out of all of the foods we've missed - sushi, Wagamamas, curry, chinese, BBQ ribs - ohhhhhh we're not going south for another four weeks. Gahhhhhh, drool....

Sophiathesnowfairy · 23/06/2012 19:11

I think everyone else's bump looks lovely and I have just blabbed all over!
missmummy I was was wondering what carries we're.

Am having a cheeky champagne as we have been allocated an address for the house we are in the process of building. Slowly. I have found this strangely exciting.

I didn't do a daddy pack for DS perhaps daddy deserves one now he is cooking my dinner.

I didn't reall feel much movement till the last week or so but now it is increasing so don't worry yw and Liliana.

No new hanging bag for me as I had a lovely leather koochu bag for DS which has to last Envy

Sophiathesnowfairy · 23/06/2012 19:12

I didn't blab I blobbed!

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/06/2012 19:31

valium I thought because it's an eBay shop they'd just get more stock.

We still haven't got our money through from natwest, beyond a joke really.

ValiumQueen · 23/06/2012 19:52

Hopefully DH but I was worried every other mummy on the thread would have one except you x

MissMummy1 · 23/06/2012 20:03

DH21 I'm also screwed bank wise. Car is totally undrivable until the tyre gets replaced and I'm not insured to drive DH's landrover. (Not that I'd want to, the thing is a liability and should have been sent to the scrapyard at least 10 years ago - the term 'off-roader' is used for his car, not because it's driven off road, but because it spends 90% of it's time in the garage...) It's no real biggie as I went a few weeks without one after I wrote off my old car in April, it's just irritating as I know I have the money to buy a new tyre sitting 'somewhere' in cyber bank space. Grr!

YellowWellies · 23/06/2012 20:09

The banks have spent so long offshoring their IT it was only a matter of time before this happened - any move away from a cash economy is scary to me - it only takes one large burst of solar radiation and every electronic bank account would be wiped as our computer networks die. It seems the banks IT strategy is as good as their risk management (i.e. fecking shit). Time to put more of our savings somewhere else me thinks - it's not as if you actually get any real return on your cash in the bank. Hmm premium bonds or precious metals? Or just the lottery - still got to be worth a punt compared to interest rates below inflation.....

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/06/2012 21:17

valium thanks for thinking of me! Grin trouble is our PayPal account is linked to out natwest account so couldn't buy one now even if I wanted to.

I don't think I'll be seeing any cash til at least mon.

ValiumQueen · 23/06/2012 21:44

Oh bother. I cannot begin to imagine what it is like for you guys. We take so much for granted with banks.

Chunkychicken · 23/06/2012 22:34

DH liked the black triple cupcake one.

We're in our house!!! I put my foot down to DH & said we're sleeping here tonight. DD is happy as Larry about it despite a nasty cough & cold.

Have barely thought about baby today, been so busy but finally got scan results. Think it was 1 in 6300 or something which is obviously what they call a 'negative' but doesn't seem that high... Still, have a feeling DD was 1 in 5700 or something so guess its fine. I know its not 'proof' but equally, it would nice to know baby was totally healthy. No idea when my '20wk' scan is either.

Have champagne in the fridge but think I'm too tired to open it!! Maybe tomorrow... :)

mrswee · 23/06/2012 22:38

chunkychicken Congrats on the move! you must be so pleased to have got there... I can't wait till we do the same.. a few fraught months before that for us, but only 2.5 weeks till keys... same week as my 20 week scan!

horseylady · 23/06/2012 23:26

Were on a budget too!! I won't be spending any money on a bag lol but I can like looking at them :) between the horses (who live on a budget!) and everything else were quite strict.

Were starting to buy nappies the pram will be new as mum and dad are buying it. We've been given a brand new Moses basket, mother has bought loads of clothes!! So just need cot and new matters, bedding (though I've bought a couple of pods so hopefully they'll be ok) and toys!! I'm sure there's 1000 other things but using em as diary were ok!!

Iheartpasties · 24/06/2012 01:48

Hi,

Is the ecoegg similar to the soap nuts you can buy? I was tempted a while back to get into using soap nuts but then I read that washing clothes with them was the same as just using water and no deturgent so I didnt bother getting any! Some people swear by them though. Also someone mentioned using Lavender oil in their washing, I'm not sure that its safe during pregnancy, I didnt want to not mention it :)

x

Iheartpasties · 24/06/2012 01:53

I have a massive headache, so I am lazing today. Feel rough.

MissMummy1 · 24/06/2012 08:45

Am I being unreasonable? I've woken up this morning with a really tight pain on my stomach. It's not cramping, it's just a constant tight pain. I've had lots of muscle stretching almost from day 1 but this feels different. Not sure if I've just done too much over the past few days but i've got myself in a panic this morning. DH can't take the day off work so has left me in bed with a load of water and organised for my mum to come round at lunchtime. Blehh i feel so crap and useless :-(

Lilliana · 24/06/2012 10:01

Sorry you are feeling rubbish MissMummy I would rest and if it doesn't ease in a few hours give the mat ward a ring. Hope you feel better soon.

Pasties have you had some paracetamol? You can take that ok, (still think lazing for a day is perfectly alright!)

I was wondering about the ecoegg too, part of me fancies it, part of me thinks I will go back to washing powder in a couple weeks and it will be a waste.

Haven't looked for bags yet but was inspired by you all to start googling, guess what? I like the stupidly expensive ones, going to have to start on ebay I think.

Does anyone know much about mattresses? Know it needs to fit the bed but not much else! We need to order ours next week so any advice would be great. In the shop they were pushing the AeroSleep system that you put over a basic mattress - not sure if it is a gimick or is actually as good as they say. (It is for a cot bed if that makes any difference)

mrswee · 24/06/2012 10:02

missmummy That is what I have had, though my was with intense pain. It probably does mean you have been doing too much.. Every doctor and midwife I have seen over the last 2 weeks has said as much to me.
I found that sipping water constently and resting does a world of good. However I'd mention it to your midwife tomorrow or if it gets any worse call triage and assement for advice. Don't let me worry you, tightenings are really common and a good way of your body saying hey slow down but shouldn't be ignored if they go on and on. May well be braxton hicks?

Passmethecrisps · 24/06/2012 10:03

Poor you missmummy1. That sounds pretty horrible. Wonder if it is ligament pain?

I was loving all the bag chat yesterday - I hadn't thought that far ahead but looks like I should make a start. Told DH about needing to think about changing bags and he asked could we not just use one of the free digital projector bags we got given recently? I told him that he could use those for sure!

I am so tired at the moment - it is almost like being back in the first trimester. Sleeping until about 10 at weekends and then dozing during the day.

mrswee · 24/06/2012 10:11

lilliana I was really tempted to buy a really good mattress for my DD a few yeas ago, I couldn't decide what to get and I ended up buying a much cheaper ikea one when we bought our cot and have been happy with it. It was still high in the ikea range but a lot less than one's I'd seen.
I have actually replaced it once because it got so disgusting with all the spillages. So in hinsight I am glad I didnt spend a lot of extra cash.
If you do go for a more epensive one then buy a really good mattress protector!!
