Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ooh, your own Spanish villa, sounds like a wonderful way to spend your time...

No overnight stay, at 36 my festival camping days are well behind me (Reading 1994 anyone?!!). We'll be driving back afterwards, it's only just over an hour from us.

I say 'we', it'll be me won't it! My DP and brother are coming too, and Elbow's own brand of beer is on sale during the event, so I think as the pregnant lady I'm the designated driver of the group!

TheDetective · 22/06/2012 09:49

DP said I can't have a girly changing bag! As he will have to carry it too! Good job the one that comes with the pram isn't girly Grin .... for him anyway!

Dunno why he is so fussed. He carries my handbag around half the time for me anyway. He's not exactly a mans man, if you know what I mean! But he was very insistent over the changing bag! Confused

Glad I'm not with NatWest. Up until we started saving for this baby, we lived month to month too. We have no credit card, and come payday, it was quite usual for us to have absolutely no money left, no petrol in the cars, and no food in the house! I'd of been up shit creek without a paddle! I suspect I could have borrowed money off the mother, but that's not the point is it?!

I'd of been fuuuuuuuuming! As it is, I'm with RBS, and its payday on wednesday for me. They better not fuck it up, or they will have my pregnant hormonal rage to deal with!!

applepieinthesky · 22/06/2012 09:52

What I would give to be flying off to Spain Envy We will definitely be going abroad next year when baby is six months old. My parents and brother are coming as well and I'm sure they'll be happy to babysit.

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/06/2012 09:57

Im really looking forward to getting away from this rubbish weather/ country for a week.

I keep checking the weather where we are staying and its 30 degrees and sunny Grin

applepieinthesky · 22/06/2012 10:04

My manager is in Spain at the moment, another colleague is in Tobago and my cousin is in Monte Carlo so I?ve got a serious case of holiday envy. There are some cheap last minute deals around but if we went now we wouldn?t be able to afford to put a deposit down for next year as well and I?d prefer to take the baby with us. So I guess I?ll just have to wait. Sigh.

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/06/2012 10:06

You'll enjoy it all the more for having waited! We wont be having a hol abroad for quite a while after this one as we wont be able to afford it with two kids when Im not working.

We literally have no spare money left at the end of the month as it is.

mrswee · 22/06/2012 10:19

Morning everyone.
Intersting to read so many of you are in the same payday to payday situtation as we always are. We both got paid on friday luckily, all the back and forth to hospital stuff has cost us a fortune, so lucky we just got paid or we'd have had no petrol in the car and no money for parking or food while we were there!
I would be totally stuck if I was with natwest!
Hope natwest sort it out for you all affected today!

Feeling considerably better today and off to the doctor again in a bit. I am going to ask her to sign me off for next week though I am also going to feel horribly guilty about it as from next week we are perminatly short staffed on top of an already bad staffing problem. Someone is leaving today and isnt getting replaced and all the annual leave starts this week and goes on every week until mid september. But that means work is even more stressful and I can't risk it till I know I am fully better... makes ever leaving the house a bit difficult though. people will wonder why I can pop to the shop but not get to work. I live fairly local to work and close to many of the people I work with! argh

applepieinthesky · 22/06/2012 10:32

We wouldn?t be able to afford it either if I didn?t book it and pay for most of it before I start mat leave. We do have a bit of disposable income each month but it usually gets frittered away and then the final week before payday we struggle. It shouldn?t be like that really so I have started to do a budget and when I get paid next week we are sticking to it rigidly. No excuses. If we can?t manage on what we have coming in now then we?ll be buggered when I go on mat leave so we need to get used to sticking to a budget.

mrswee don't feel guilty. They will have to manage without you soon anyway and baby has to come first.

LittleLolly · 22/06/2012 10:47

DH21 I would love to be flying off to a Spanish villa, have a fab time. We are going to Ireland next week for 4 days... I'm sure we will get the same weather.. Not! Grin

applepie google pink lining and take a look at their changing bags. John Lewis have a good range on their website too. They are gorgeous!!

Thechick · 22/06/2012 10:47

mrswee glad you are feeling better than last week. You need to do whats best for you right now and if that means taking another week off then do it. Good luck with the doctor.

On the subject of changing bags, i think we are going to use a rucksack. We have quite a few in the house and with the baby in a sling at the beginning it will be a bit easier having it behind, rather than the side. Might get the free boots one, for when the baby is a bit older in the pushchair.

LittleLolly · 22/06/2012 10:48

mrswee hope you feel better soon, if you go back to work too quickly you will feel worse so don't make yourself feel guilty!

MissMummy1 · 22/06/2012 10:55

I have a couple of hundred pounds left on my student overdraft and a tiny negligible student loan so have no real debt issues. We do however live very much month tks month with virtually no disposable income, but then when i was at uni i had £20 a week for food, drink, petrol, etc and was great at budgeting and those sober nights out getting drunk mates to pay for fuel as i played taxi driver have paid total dividends now theyre all sitting in 30k + of debt!

Got great news today. DH has been headhunted for the job he's been working towards for the past 3 years! His salary is going to triple and, well, call me the captains wife! Its two weeks on, a week off so Will work great with baby and hours are much more sociable too. Relieves pressure for me to go back to work quickly and it's permanent for at least 5 years! Hello security at last!

Although not to put a damper on things, we Will no doubt still be living and to mouth every month. As the old saying goes, you cut your cloth accordingly. We'll still have outgoings every month that will be matched to our income - and come November that will be just one income..

littlelolli'm bidding on one on ebay. I think its the orange blossom one? Very unisex. I love it! (and hope DH Will love the pricetag more...) lol!

MissMummy1 · 22/06/2012 10:56

(apologies for the typos. Smart phone is not so smart..)

horseylady · 22/06/2012 11:01

I've bought some mat clothes off eBay. Bundle of trousers and tops for £20. Was quite pleased. Need to look at some baby bits etc. My parents are buying the pram, so it will be new, just need to kit the nursery out though thinking of using the bigger room now, and if we have two same sex they can share? Not sure how practical that is but will mean we won't need an additional wardrobe and dh will HAVE to throw out some if his 100 t shirts!!

StuntNun · 22/06/2012 11:18

MissLaughALot I was at Reading '94 as well, you must be the twin sister I never had! The Red Hot Chili Peppers were amazing weren't they? I still have the bootleg of that concert!

I'm sitting in the car in the rain waiting for DS2 to wake up to take him into school after hisBCG this morning. The poor little mite was so brave but I think he was quite scared about it too. A Power Rangers Samurai Morpher phone helped with the pain.

OP posts:
applepieinthesky · 22/06/2012 11:19

I?ll check the bags out later thanks.

horsey we have given baby the bigger room as well. We only have two bedrooms and are also thinking ahead to when we have two children and they need to share. Luckily they are both quite big bedrooms and both have massive built in wardrobes.

horseylady · 22/06/2012 11:43

We've got a 4 bed house, one of the bedrooms is used as an office, obv were in one!! Then there's another double room and the room we were going to use as a nursery. That's got a double fouton in it ATM, so if we had people over they could stay in there, then the baby have the bigger room as he will be there all the time!! Then if we did have second, we'd have the option of what we did. Seems silly keeping a double room which is only used a few times a year for that purpose? Guess the alternative is moving the office and futon into the double room and using the two smaller rooms if needed. I think im going to go with my new idea. Right must finish this research.....

FatimaLovesBread · 22/06/2012 11:53

Ive just spent half an hour looking at change bags now Grin I really need to get my housework done

applepieinthesky · 22/06/2012 11:59

Sick again today at 19 weeks. Do I take the record? Sad

ValiumQueen · 22/06/2012 12:29

apple still sick at 21weeks. I feel your pain.

In relation to work absence and going to shops, if you're signed off they cannot complain.

MissMummy1 · 22/06/2012 12:43

We had a teacher at the last school I taught at who was signed off work with a bad back. Despite getting caught on the dry ski slope by some of his pupils AND the depute head, there's nothing anyone could do about it. A doctors note is just that and noone will argue with it. Take all the time you need until YOU are ready to go back! X

mrswee · 22/06/2012 13:06

Thanks every one. Feel a lot less guilty already because the doctor immediately agreed to sign me off for next week and said she was going to suggest it. I have had a total of 7 health professionals tell me over the last week that I need to rest now and slow down completely till the baby is born. My doctor said I was not to help my friends anylonger by looking after their children and if they ask to tell them she said so!
Having said that I REALLY NEED to get to the Gap sale and the only Gap here that sells maternity stuff is in the middle of town!

ValiumQueen · 22/06/2012 13:26

Gap sale is therapy. Everyone knows that!

ditsygem · 22/06/2012 13:42

Hi guys,
mrswee glad you are feeling better.
Everyone else - i'm jealous of the holiday and spending spree talk - i will have to get looking on ebay soon!
Well last night was eventful, i went to sleep as normal around 9.30 and woke up again around 11 with so much abdominal pain i couldn't get comfortable, couldn't bend over or lie on my side etc. It was really bad. typically it was the one night in the last 4 months when my DH had stayed out after work at a leaving do, and then his phone died so i couldn't even call him. He came in around midnight and called NHS direct and they sent me to A&E - they were useless and said they didn't have the right docs there to see me, so we had to go to another hospital (me driving everywhere whilst in pain as DH had had a few beers). The second A&E were much better but then the doctor I needed to see on the early maternity unit was called to an emergency. In the end it took me 4.5 hours from arriving at a hospital to being seen by a doctor. Not fun at all. He checked my cervix and said everything looked fine and closed and there was no bleeding, so basically there are lots of things that could cause the pain in pregnancy, and to go home and take paracetemol and to try not to worry unless there was bleeding or waters breaking.
So I got home at 5.30am and have managed to sleep wuite a bit since. I used my doppler when I got home too, so it was nice to hear baby happy as anything in there. So i can cope with pain as long as I know baby is ok.
The pain isnt as bad now, but is still there - just going to take it easy today.

Gosh - no one told me pregnancy could be so worrying!

horseylady · 22/06/2012 13:49

My stomach pains I think have all been digestion related but really painful!

Glad you're ok though!! Must be so scary. I wonder whether to get a Doppler? How much are they?

I've just eaten, baby going mad, stomach going mad!!! I was so hungry but now wish I'd not bothered :( still if I can keep it down and get it through my system everything will be better!!

Might start taking fibrogel!! Yuk :(
