Totally agree, with DS2 I really wasn't excited, too scared/worried, and even this time round still feel like it'll be to much to ask for another healthy DC after 2. Also don't forget the love doesn't always arrive at birth, often it takes weeks to bond properly. Def agree to go and chat to a dr, you want to get the help now whilst you can rather than after.
On another note, more hospital bag tips for those on DC2/3, take snacks for kids in your bag and a pressie from new baby for them, they'll be much happier to see you and share you if you have treats waiting for them I found!!! We bought DD1 a vtech camera from DS2 so she could take pics of him and she loved it.

therumoursaretrue · 08/06/2012 14:59

Hi ladies. Hope your all good I am going to have a quick catch up read now but just want a wee moan and ask you all to keep fingers crossed for me, I've been seeing the MW weekly as I've had high BP and couple of other symptoms of pre-e but now also have a suspected clot in my leg so off to see a doctor now. Hopefully it's nothing but she wanted me checked straight away. This baby growing stuff can be stressful!

Vinolover · 08/06/2012 16:13

Ontheedge you are feeling what so many women feel second time round. Believe me, you will love your second as much as your first but unfortunately it isn't as exciting because it isn't a new experience anymore and that coupled with the fact you are so occupied with a toddler.
I got terrible antenatal depression when pregnant with my second because I was so scared something awful was going to happen to me and my son would be left without a mother - I was literally convinced I wouldn't come out the other side and the dr had me on diazepam at one point to try and calm me. Everything did turn out absolutely fine and I spent all that time worrying for nothing, but having said that, I still get panicked this time round about the same thing but I have to keep giving myself a stern talking to.
Definitely speak to your dr and MW and they will be able to advise you further, plus it's such a good feeling letting it all out!

Rumours I have everything crossed that's it's nothing! What a scary time you're having of it :( Let us know how you get on!!!

ontheedgeofwhatever · 08/06/2012 16:43

Crying reading these responses. Thank you for understanding. DD is 6 so i suppose I expected to feel excited after such a long gap and I just don't (dd is though Grin).

I saw my midwife earlier but couldnt bring myself to tell her even though she's completely lovely. I think I might phone her at some point in the week and ask to talk to her again

hamncheese · 08/06/2012 16:52

hahaha panpipe riverdance is right! I reckon thats a combo of rolling waves and hiccups

Yes ishop breathing is tough but at weird times like I can walk up a hill and it's not too bad but sometimes just getting up makes me feel so breathless!

Sympathy for how you are feeling ontheedge Thanks glad the non-first time mums on our post are giving good advice. Thanks

Good luck rumors hoping it all goes fine and there is nothing to worry about!

Has anyone else considered using cloth/real nappies? One person mentioned it I THINK needles? Apologies if I'm wrong -baby brain- but anyway I'm thinking about it. I think I'm turning into a bit of a late-to-it hippy or something as after going to the sling meet where everyone was quite... progressive? ... I thought hmmm this is pretty cool and they were talking about cloth nappies. Mentioned to DH who wasn't opinionated on it at all and my Mum who was all oh it'll be a faff and too much washing and you were a pampers baby blah blah so kind of went off it but now I'm thinking about it again. SO have any of you used them, know someone who does, or thinking about it yourself. They have meets for mums who use them so I'm going to go to one on 22nd and noticed that our NCT teacher is one of the hosts too so can ask all about it from her on monday too! Apparently can save £500 and also much better for environment so unless there is a real pain in washing etc I don't see why not??

Off out to see a certain torch passing by Grin have a great friday night all x

panpipe · 08/06/2012 17:11

I'm thinking about cloth nappies too ham. A lot of people seem to recommend The Nappy Lady so I looked it up today and she's quite local to me which is lucky - she runs demo sessions and also coordinates the council's scheme where you can try a few different kinds so I may go and see her. It may be worth having a look if your local council run a scheme too. I'm planning on using disposables for at least the first few weeks though as I'm sure I won't want the hassle with everything else that a newborn is likely to involve!

NeedlesCuties · 08/06/2012 17:14

ham yes it was I who was wondering about cloth nappies.... did a post about it on my blog too.

Seems Northern Ireland is the most backward place ever and many websites have info about nappy selling agents who give free/cheap samples to try, just not in this part of UK Angry You're in Scotland, and I've seen a few names and listings for there. PM me if you want a few of the weblinks I've found and liked reading.

Am still searching for info for myself and BabyCuties... going to a sling meet later in June so will hopefully find some enlightened people to advise me.

All the best to everyone else >waves<

Enjoy your weekend :)

Lovemarmite · 08/06/2012 17:35

ontheedge my SIL said very similar things over her third but it was coupled with big money worries too. She is now very happy with 3 DCs and is way in love with all of them. It did take her a little time to get used to 3 small ones to look after at the same time. Hope all is good with you and sending you some Thanks

Yes, really need advice about cloth nappies please - was looking at the NCT shop at the reviews and am going to look at MN for reviews too. DH's brother and his wife used them and they were great apparently, no real leakages and used nappy liners that are thrown away ... just need to know the brand they used and will report back.
I think the outlay is expensive but after that, a nappy bundle should hopefully do for the whole time ( I hope?!) Hmm, I was out of nappies when I was 1 year apparently and so maybe it's possible for LO? Or my Mum is exaggerating?!
Agree panpipe might use newborn nappies to start with until used to it all at first.

0FrillyKnickers0 · 08/06/2012 17:50

Urgh. Totally Gavin the crappiest day. It doesn't help that I'm exhausted from lack of sleep, but I've been off work this week with DH and I haven't stopped, cleaning, washing, decorating...seriously, not stopped. Now I am a blubbering wreck and DH is clearly pissed off with me for being down and now he is in a shitty mood. I can't stop crying and he doesn't get it. We are meant to be going out for a meal with friends tonight (and still will) but I don't have the energy to put on a smile Sad Boo hoo.

Lovemarmite · 08/06/2012 17:58

Ooo frilly perhaps you've done too much and need tomorrow to relax and pamper yourself!
I've been off too with DH, he's working hard to finish the painting tomorrow and I've been doing what I can. I did some cleaning today and did lunch and will do dinner.
Hope you have a good evening tonight!

ImissMiniPop · 08/06/2012 18:32

Oh frilly that's rubbish :( I've been down a lot too, I can't help it, but DP keeps telling me off and that I should be happy, which I am, MiniPop is here are he's doing ok so far, but it's still a lot to go through - but he doesn't get it either, and has a go at me. Sometimes men are just rubbish...!

I've just had to order micro nappies for MiniPop, and they're still huge on him :o

wishing you all a good friday x

Loislane78 · 08/06/2012 18:41

rumours hope all goes well for you. If you want any advice after your appt let me know as I've had blood clots and have taken blood thinner injections throughout my pg so have some insight - but sure you will be fine :)

frilly you've done too much - we're all doing too much!!! Just think what you've achieved and that tomorrow you can have a nice rest. Enjoy your evening, not least cos no one has to cook and will be more difficult once bubs here :)

Re. cloth nappies. Couple of girls at work v positive, one said you can get liners that flush down the loo which i didn't know about. Other friend felt it was too much for her.

Anyone else feel stretched to capacity already!!? Not sure how it works for another 10 wks!

fairtradelu · 08/06/2012 18:48

I'm thinking of using reusable nappies too - have decided to get a Little Lambs Birth to Potty kit. It's £300 but includes EVERYTHING. Am going for bamboo nappies as they have best reviews. I don't know anyone who uses them and my mum went off on one (you're going to have nappies drying all over the house bla bla bla) but as we try to be ethical in all other parts of our lives it doesn't feel right not giving reusables a go!

Thanks for the tips on dealing with sore ribs Ham. Am seriously suffering at mo!

Have a good weekend everyone

The3Bears · 08/06/2012 18:53

Hello everyone, Hope you have all had a lovely friday. Been very busy here so not been on much but hope everyone who is feeling abit rubbish feels better soon.
Everyone talking about sleeping positions I sleep on my side with my top leg lifted up so im more on an angle if that makes sense, seems to be okay for me not even needing extra cushions yet either and no hip ache etc. Ribs are aching alot atm but thats to be expected with a baby all squashed up in there Grin it's alot more uncomfortable for me when im sat up so it's a great excuse for a quick lie down.
ontheedge Dont really have any advice as im currently pregnant with dc2 people who i've spoke to about it have just said that your heart just grows with love :) I have to admit at the beginning of pregnancy I was very upset and all I could think of was that there was noway I could love another baby as much as ds1, but we told ds quite early on as I was so upset and he was over the moon and has been ever since, he came to the first scan and was v excited so it kind of made me feel excited and happy to be expanding our family and making ds1 so happy aswell. Atm I keep having people say to me they'll be a point soon when you just want to cry because you feel like you wont love the new baby the same but atm I dont feel like that at all and I cannot wait to have my 2 little boys :)

I am just so excited now only 64 days to go and I cant wait!!! Im a little bit nervous about going through the newborn phase and the shock to the system but I think because we have already been through that with ds1 were expecting it and will just deal with it and I am planning on sleeping when baby is as I didnt with ds 1 just stayed awake staring at him so I wont feel as exausted, im just looking forward to coming home from hospital and relaxing at home together :)

Sorry for the long post but I cant wait Grin Bugaboo bee arrived yesterday will post pics after cannot be bothered to move from sofa atm and it's lovely, ds1 says it's his pram to push baby in as the handlebars go so low and now nobody else is aloud near it Grin So happy and proud about how excited he is about his new baby brother!

Hope everything goes okay rumours keeping fingers crossed for you x

Going to have a lovely chilled out night with dp and watch a film with some nachos (obsessed with them atm) weather is rubbish so I love being all cosy inside.

How is everyone else?

therumoursaretrue · 08/06/2012 18:53

Thanks ham and vino.
That would be great Lois, just waiting to see if there's anyone about at this time on a Friday to scan my leg. The doctor has examined me and doesn't seem too worried but there is family history of clots so need to be on the safe side really.

Hopefully I'll be home on the sofa with a take away soon!

The3Bears · 08/06/2012 19:00

Frilly you need a good relax, sometimes men dont understand how we feel it's very hard to explain why your feeling so down and fed up when even you dont know :( Hope you have a nice meal and feel better, have a nice bath get dressed up and enjoy x

Poppy Minipop sounds adorable glad to hear he's okay, hope you feel abit better soon but I think it's understandable the way your feeling cant imagine what your going through and you sound so strong Thanks

Loislane78 · 08/06/2012 19:02

rumours oh good, you're at the hospital now so they'll check you out properly :)

Tell the doc you want some compression socks (you need measuring which a GP or nurse can also do). I have black and tan pairs and they're just like knee highs under trousers. You won't want to wear them all the time but aside from clot prevention, they help with cankle swelling.

Good luck :)

0FrillyKnickers0 · 08/06/2012 20:02

Ah you guys Smile Thanks so much! Just on way out and I think I'll treat myself to a small glass of red Grin What would I do without you lot?

Got my sister's baby shower tomorrow (she is 37 weeks), but I've not had to organise it so yes, I think I will just chill the heck out!!

Hope you all have a lovely evening x

Lovemarmite · 08/06/2012 20:27

Hope you get seen asap rumours and all is well!

Yes lois me stretched to capacity too
Yeah to the weekend x

Vinolover · 08/06/2012 20:47

Enjoy your sisters baby shower tomorrow Frilly and your red wine! I had a cheeky small sparkling wine on monday and oh my it was good!!!

I'm feeling stretched beyond belief now and I keep having horrible moments of not being able to catch my breath :( I will be bloody glad when this baby engages but he seems to love lying across and cuddling into my hip!

Lois I have a real fear of clots (have watched too many episodes of Holby city!!!) How often do you wear the compression socks?

Hope you're home soon rumours and enjoy your take away :)

I had a call today from the pram shop to say my pram and car seat are there and ready for collection! This is getting pretty real now :)

ishopthereforeiam · 08/06/2012 20:57

frilly have a large glass Wink hope you're feeling better?

ontheedge hope the chat with mw goes well. I had lunch with a friend who has a 3mo today and had totally forgotten how small they are (!) and how warm and snuggly the cuddles are. I'm now def looking forward to dc2 much more. Hopefully you'll find that too x

Am feeling the love on this thread. you ladies all rock! Ok no more cheesy posts from me...

OP posts:
susiegrapevine · 08/06/2012 20:59

frilly you have my sympathies. I had a boo today about my dad's business as he competley messed up stock levels and I had to deal with some of the fall out! But whole thing has just made me just soooo stressed! Have done it before but not while pregnant. My mind is just sooo baby brain at the mo it takes time to get to grips with it! Have poor ds with me who is at the age where he wants to do stuff and I just stick him in front of the telly with junk food! Feel like such a bad mum at the mo! Think he feels negeleted. Still boo helped get rid of my stress and now me and sis are taking ds out tmw for fun filled day! Will kill my dad when he gets back!!

tashaw28 · 08/06/2012 21:39

Poppy I've bought micro nappies for my bump as both mine were in them for a few weeks at 6.8 and 5.14.
Also for anyone using disposables Ocado has huggies size 1 on offer at the mo seem really cheap, have stocked up with 4 packs so far as last up to 11 lb.
Ontheedge please call your midwife asap, or your gp, they will be able to help you.
Has anyone been really suffering with braxton Hicks? I'm getting about 20 a day and by the end of the day they are so painful, I'm trying not to over do it but doesn't seem to make a difference? Am seeing mw next wed finally, first visit in 14 weeks!!!!
29+5

ImissMiniPop · 08/06/2012 21:59

We have a name! :-) Thomas. :o

He's doing ok, but has a few little issues, and he hasn't gained any more weight, so fingers crossed that improves soon. He was really sleepy today, more so than I've seen him before so the nurse did a blood gas check to make sure he was all ok, which he was, thank goodness. Does the worry ever end? Confused

Gnomi · 08/06/2012 22:05

Hello all, just checking in after catching up with so many posts.

Needles and Ham I'm thinking about www.littlelambnappies.com and www.cheekywipes.com/ after recommendations from friends, although certainly not for the first few weeks - apparently you don't want any tarry poo on reusable nappies. I've got some new born huggies but will probably stock up on a few more brands/sizes when the nursery is finished.

Hope all goes well for you rumours, clots and pre-eclampsia are definitely not something to ignore but at least you sound like you're in safe hands.

Tashaw, no Braxton Hicks here, sorry you're struggling with them. Can't believe you have had so few Midwife appointments! I've got my 31 week on (I'll be 32 weeks but) on monday. I'm sure she's going to say I'm measuring big as I feel huge!

I'm really worried about having a big baby - the baby feels huge already! The other day I was sure I could feel his knees and they were really far apart. What predicts a baby's weight/size?

I'm feeling really hormonal at the moment too. We went away with friends for a few days and yesterday all the girls went pony-trekking. The boys were all planning to play golf, so I had a complete meltdown - I couldn't go pony-trekking and I didn't want to play golf! Fortunately DH sacked off the golf for going round a castle, but I cried for about an hour before I calmed down. It was a bit like being a teenager with PMT again. Aaarrgghhh - 8 + more weeks of this?!
