Oh also I got my underarms waxed today and was thinking whilst having it done "there is no way anyone is doing this down there!" ouch! Also got eyelashes died so no more mascara in this humdity! Plus will bode well for post-baby when makeup is the last thing on my mind.

This is a bit trivial but is anyone else planning on getting some sort of low maintenence hair cut prior to baby? I usually have layers but then if I'm not having time to blow dry never mind use straightners it'll stick out like mad. May go get a straight trim...

Weekipper · 27/06/2012 20:50

Hello everybody! Finally settled after moving house and only 1.5days to go till maternity/holidays! Then I'll get on with organising for the baby. Fingers crossed they don't make an early appearance. I, too have been shocked by my nipples in the mirror and when I catch site of my reflection I can't believe how much my bump has grown in last month.
Is anyone else finding their socks are leaving big indents on their ankles? I'm pretty sure the ankles don't look particularly swollen ... Also I've been fighting the urge to get baby's HB checked after a pretty quiet 24hrs however since I sat down to midsommer murders have had some big movements so probably just been too busy to notice at work. Can't wait till baby is out and I can see it! If you see what I mean.

panpipe · 27/06/2012 21:01

ham not trivial; I've also been thinking about hair/beauty sort of things. I plan on getting an eyelash tint too, which I did for our wedding and honeymoon so I could go without mascara and still feel 'done' - mascara is my one staple which I'll put on even if I can't be bothered with anything else! I had a brazilian blow dry (no nothing to do with the 'other' kind of Brazilian Grin) last year which made my hair noticeably less frizzy - but still not poker straight as they led you to believe - and also made it sooo much easier to look after. My hair is long and thick and after the treatment it only took 5 mins with a hairdryer instead of the usual 15+! It's quite pricy though so I may ask for vouchers for the hairdresser as a birthday present!

Hopefully it'll be some 'me time' and a chance to make myself look vaguely presentable since I won't have time once baby arrives!

Weekipper I've barely been able to get socks on lately so can't remember if I get the elastic indents!

eightieshopaholic · 27/06/2012 21:32

Went for my hospital visit Sunday, invitation was for 2 people so me and partner, my mom got funny as she also wanted to come!!

Couldn't believe they told me to bring a pillow as they have a shortage and only provide water during labour so to bring food and energy drinks.

I didn't think about a towel but have to take one. Rooms private for labour but in rooms of four until in full labour then in fours after and for £100 per night can have a private room after felt like being sold to!!

Looks like my hospital bag needs to be a suitcase lol!! we have had nice weather yday and today have been washing baby clothes for hospital bag seems so strange seeing things so little!! cute!!

33+3 today

ChicBabyP · 27/06/2012 21:37

Sorry haven't participated much since I joined the thread, but thoroughly enjoying the TMI and ladygardens discussions!!
Just to add my tuppence on the subject, I'm also a "waxer" but nowhere near as daring as some of you are! my limit is an extended bikini wax (sides and top)and trim the rest a little with scissors. I have to admit that I haven't been for a wax in a few months and now am waiting another few weeks to have it done in time before the birth.
But I really laughed at some of your stories of legs akimbo and bum cracks :o

As for the TMI of leakage topic, I have had some sort of creamy discharge for quite a while now, and cannot live without my panty liners, day AND night. Would definitely not be able to sleep without anything on, can't bear the feeling of wetness IYKWIM.

pint sorry to hear about your dog...and about your mum not being supportive. You are the one having to go through the process and you should choose whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

ham, i sympathise about the itching, had it for months at the beginning of the pregnancy and it had nothing to do with the liver either. Have you tried moisturising? I used a cream for dry skin and it seemed to help for a while but not a real solution. Re haircuts, I would go for anything that can be tied up in a bun or ponytail, not sure I'll be able to handle anything more sophisticated.

Also having difficulty sleeping at the moment, can't get comfortable and keep moving a lot which wakes me up, and i feel those pains that someone mentioned when you turn from one side to the other, like pulling inside. Also felt baby turn head down (from breech) 2 nights ago (which was confirmed on scan yesterday), it was SO uncomfortable that I had to get on all fours in the middle of the night, for 10min to help it settle. But I'm glad the head isn't in my ribs anymore!

I'll try and participate a bit more from now on..
Hope everyone gets some shut eye tonight!

34+3

frillylemons · 27/06/2012 21:49

Ah Vino Sad Sorry to hear you're not feeling to good. Though we hadn't heard much from you recently. I keep meaning to message you on FB, I will get round to it I promise!!

Well I've had a lovely evening with DSis who is due with her first baby tomorrow!! Exciting times Grin

DH got a heck load done in the nursery today! He cut and stuck in place all of the skirting board and all that's left to do is paint it! So excited Grin then we can start putting the furniture up!!

You all well?

quickchat · 27/06/2012 22:26

Sorry to hear about your dog pint. I know what it's like normally but with PG hormones you will be a lot worse.

OMG OMG, with all the waxing talk - and also the never ending footy on TV I decided to go for a pamper bath - hair treatment, exfoliate, shave legs and under arms then a trim in the nether regions.

Nothing could have prepared me Shock for the sight in the hand held mirror.
I had this horrible bulgy vainy thing on one side of my lady garden.

At first I thought cancerous tumour - naturally, then I remembered someone on here talking about varicose vains down there.

I had to make poor DH look and he said it is indeed a vain and not cancer. WTF!! I didn't have this with my other two. I've since googled it and people have literally tons of them and are in agony and have to hold ice packs.

I wasn't aware of it at all until tonight but apparently they get bigger and bigger until the end of PG then they go away after birth. Now Im PANICKing that I will have millions of them or one huge one by the time I go in. Here is me embarrassed about a bit body hair and now my lady garden is slowly morphing into a Turkey's neck.

I HATE this.

Right, I will say something normal about my day as im now obsessing with all things yucky and am not normally one of these folk who talk constantly about bits/sex/poo etc (you know the type). BlushBlushBlush

Im generally a prude which is why im falling to pieces about getting my bits out.

You'd think by my third id be so over it but now Im so aware.

With my first I was rushed in hemorrhaging blood due to placenta previa.

One minute the midwife was having a discrete look and the next a surgical team flew into the room, filing in one by one, students and all.
There was Asian Doctors, Chinese Doctors, and many others. I thought the united nations had come for a look at my fanjo.

The cover between my legs was lifted and all 12 of them literally tilted their heads to one side and did a sort of worried but interested look on their face.

I cannot tell you how much ground swallowing I was praying for at that moment.

I thought id explain my fascination with my lady garden looking prim and proper!

Anyway, yes about my normal day. It was 5 yr old DS's nursery day out to a farm today so DH stayed off work to watch DD so I could be one of the mums to help.
Tomorrow is his last day at nursery Sad. He has the nicest nursery and teachers and Im going to be in TEARS tomorrow. My first born, finished nursery already and off to school in August.

PG hormones turn you into a HUUUGE sap don't they? x

frillylemons · 27/06/2012 22:52

Ok. I am literally wiping away tears. quick...I know it's grim re varicose bits, but your post had me in stitches!! You poor thing!! Trust me thoughV I know what it's like. It was me talking about it Sad Pretty grim huh? At least it's not been painful. I have to use peas ice packs which is a bit grim but it does help!! Sad times re DS and his last day in nursery Sad

ishopthereforeiam · 28/06/2012 00:36

Oh quick - hug? x

Hey ladies, thanks for all the messages re Ddog and mum. Sending all you Thanks.

MrsM hope your Ddog is doing better now.

Ishop yes Hollywood is the same thing as a playboy, all off! in for a penny and all that..... I have the same thing with my nipples too, they are huge. I'm used to small boobs and able to get away with no bra. But in the last few weeks they have gone nuts, now have a cleavage that Jordan would be proud off. Ok so I am exaggerating a bit but thats what they feel like.

Panpipe yes I am hoping for water birth at home too. Had a water birth in hospital with DC2 and it was great, stayed in the water for the whole thing and found it really relaxing and more in control. I need to sort out a pool yet, may hire one and get new liner or buy one, not sure yet.

Vino hope you feel better when you wake up tomorrow, hopefully you will have had a good nights sleep.

Weekipper I have been getting the same thing as you with the sock lines. It only usually happens if I go to bed late or been busy in the day. Tonight they are quite bad as been up and down ladder painting today!

Quickchat you made me spit my cup of tea out with your description. I can tell you that you are not alone with the vein situation down there, most odd, never had it before with the last 2. Just hope it leaves as quickly as it got there!

Hope you all get a good nights sleep ladies

woopsidaisy · 28/06/2012 06:54

So sorry about your dog pint. And ignore your mum. Homebirth sounds great! She has had her kids, you do it your way!

Ladies, am I insane for planning to visit in-laws next week? I'm in Belfast, they are in Marlow Bucks. GP is dragging feet about the letter. And MIL and DH both worried it will be too much for me. DSs are so looking forward to it! In-laws are lovely, outdoor heated pool, beautiful house....but would I be better staying at home??!!

I will also have to register with a GP there and get my bloods done and a midwife check. No biggie, but DH is very unsure.
Gah! I was doing so well. But bump has got so massive, and it is very uncomfortable to walk any distance without feeling like I need to "lift" the bump up. Just don't know what to do.

woopsidaisy · 28/06/2012 06:56

Should have clarified that we will be flying, so need the letter from GP. And have overactive thyroid so need bloods done weekly, as per Reg at the clinic yesterday. But bloods have been perfect all through pregnancy.

woopsidaisy · 28/06/2012 07:29

Should have said will be 35 weeks, back at 36 + 4.

NeedlesCuties · 28/06/2012 07:54

Hi!

Sorry I can't really remember who said what recently, but I have been reading.

quick I almost spat my Weetabix out over the laptop when laughing at your post and the United Nations! Grin Grin I can imagine that was pretty hectic for you.

Woops I'm not sure, but I'd reckon you'd be okay flying to England. When pregnant with DS we drove from Belfast to Dublin and then got flight to Aberdeen (to visit a friend) then back again. That was all at 35 weeks and despite me getting a GP letter not one person asked to see it Hmm However, that was back in the days when it was just DH and I and I was a young spritely 25 year old. I'm not sure about your health issues and as you have other children to look after.... but even if worse came to to worse you'd be in England and able to use hospitals there. Plus your in-laws can help out with the kids, I hope!

(31+5)

woopsidaisy · 28/06/2012 08:05

The in-laws are fab at looking after the kids. Who are 7 & 5. And I have researched and decided to go to Stoke Mandeville if there are any issues.
And FIL knows exactly how to get there as MIL was an inpatient there for ages a year or so ago.
I don't know why, maybe all the raised eyebrows are getting to me. Smile

MrsMigginslovespies · 28/06/2012 08:43

I'm jolly pleased I brought upp the waxing issue as Quick's post is hilarious. Sorry Quick to laugh at your misfortune...Wink. Its all glamour, isn't it?! I'm now going to have a check about veins later as am curious paranoid about down there. WHich is why I wondered about the waxing to begin with!

Ham, yes, I'm going to have a haircut beforehand. Had some highlights done in London recently, but as my hair is very long and all one length (got bored of layers a couple of years ago, so now have heavy fringe and long long back), easy peasy to maintain, so will get the ends lopped off and that'll be fine. I've oddly found that it needs washing less during pregnancy. I can go two --or even three- days without it looking vile, whereas before, would wash every day. Also, my skin has dried out a lot and it's nicest it's ever been. I've hardly had any spots which has been great for me, as I've always struggled with combo skin and sometimes spots on chin. Bet it freaks out and goes mad once baby is born, however...! Am impressed you got underarms done...I've found that AGONY before and always get a rash, so shave carefully instead, as they're very sensitive. One day, I'd like the light laser thing to get rid of all hair there.

Am going to finish hospital bags today I think. Want to have everything in place and ready just in case ,especially as we're away in two weeks for a week to Dorset and by the time we get back, I'll be 36ish weeks. Crazy!

Have another Lazy Daisy class tonight and another trip to the vet for DDog to get her wound checked. Seems like there's tons to organise at the mo, what with car stuff, DDog, baby stuff, school stuff for DH, dentist, etc etc etc. So much for putting up feet and relaxing during final trimester.

Sorry for another long post. Hope everyone has a nice day and feels well xx

ishopthereforeiam · 28/06/2012 09:00

Morning all - hope you're all ok? Lovely day but soooooo hot(!) Really struggling with the heat!

Off for yet another ante natal this afternoon, prepare for more blood, urine tests etc. Yay {sarcastic}!

OP posts:
susiegrapevine · 28/06/2012 09:51

Yes lovely morning

ishop sorry to hear you are not looking forward to antenatal appointment!! Really should be something you look forward to!

Ds's 1st full afternoonn at nursery today so I can actually start getting stuff ready for the birth/baby as I have done nothing and starting to panic a bit as realise I have done nothing and its actually not long at all left plus I thought I had more time cos I thought I would have more energy but some of my time is allocated to napping!! Oh well only 5 days left at work (3 weeks cos I only do 2 days a week!)

hamncheese · 28/06/2012 10:15

Brazillian blow dry sounds good panpipe but my hair isn't very thick so I'd be worried I'd have no volume at all!

Not been moisturising all over chic just the bits that need it most like bump and such... may try that to see if it helps.

Considering it could be an allergic reaction to something now as it does appear to be worse in the house. Was fine with the windows opened but closed them to watch tv last night and the itch got worse so just spent hours de-cat hairing and airing the whole house... knackered!

Haha quick ... another illustration of the unglamerous nature of this pregnancy business.

The underarms are agony the first time miggins or if you've not had them done in a long long time but once you get them done regularly (every 5 weeks I go) it's not so bad. Worse at the moment though due to pregnancy.

Nightfall1983 · 28/06/2012 12:41

Hi Ladies,
Saw the midwife this morning (31 + 5) all was fine and well until she tested my urine and it came up positive for glucose. So she seemed quite worried and did a blood test which I should find out the results of tomorrow and might have to have a GTT test.

I wasn't worried but have been thinking about it and am now!! Has anyone had a positive urine test but then not gone on to have gestational diabetes? Anything else it could be?

:-(

McBaby · 28/06/2012 13:11

Nightfall - had glucose in urine but GTT was fine can sometimes depend what you have eaten before you do the urine test.

Feeling good today - great nights sleep for the first time in 7 months! Head has engaged and bump has dropped so feels like its all going in the right way. Bump dropping also means can breathe easier, eat without indegestion and SPD is feeling better (which seems backwards but the head being in one place can stabilise your pelvis). And the GP retested for group b strep today after a positive result 20 odd weeks ago - fingers crossed its negative then I can have a nice water birth :).

Sorry for rambling feeling positive for the first time in a while 34+2 today :)

capecath · 28/06/2012 13:38

nightfall I had glucose in urine two tests ago, but yesterday urine was fine and 28 week blood test results received yesterday said my glucose was low! Have GTT tomorrow but not worried because of the other results. Suspect it might have been the choc I ate before giving the sample :) And the GP did say sometimes your kidneys can just get a bit leaky.

Nightfall1983 · 28/06/2012 14:01

Thanks McBaby and capecath I'll try not to worry. Actually I always do my "sample" as soon as I get up / before food except for today when I forgot (baby brain?) and had to do it at the docs surgery so after having had cereal and a choc biscuit. Wonder if that's it?

MrsMigginslovespies · 28/06/2012 14:11

Good luck all those with glucose tests etc coming up. Hope they all turn out fine (fingers crossed for you)

TMI alert coming up: so, I've got a vile cold and am sneezing my way around the place. I've just had a huge sneeze and, er, leaked a bit. OMG, am mortified and am upping my pelvic floor. To be fair, I did really need the loo, but still, such a shock and grim. Thought I'd share this special moment with you all Wink.

Tis pouring with rain and miserable here again, but quite warm, so feels muggy and humid. Joy.

susiegrapevine · 28/06/2012 14:45

Nighfall I had glucose in my urine 3 times!! So they sent off for a blood glucose test last week. Went to the docs about my cough and she said blood results fine so phew thought I might have gestational diabietes too!! Anyway I put it down to always eating fruit and fibre cereal before my sample which it turns out is really sugary due to the dry fruit so I switched to bran flakes instead as thought it was best anyway! Trying to get housework done while ds is at nursery but is toooo hot and sunny so am having a rest break now as have finished his room something I defo can't do while he is here!
