Thought I'd get the ball rolling as I know there have been some BFPs in the last few days on here.....

Just got a confirmatory BFP on a clear blue. This will be DC2, DC1 will be two in two weeks!

So grab a seat, buckle up and enjoy the vino soft drinks on offer.

Ps is it really bad that I am craving a jug of Pimm's?!

Sirenetta · 15/06/2012 17:34

Went for my first appointment today (I am 7 wks) and - SURPRISE - they did a (internal) ultrasound. Am in the US so I guess the services are a little different here. The surprise of being told to undress bottom half was a bit offputting but seeing the bean with my DH there, and hearing a few heartbeats, was beyond amazing.

Launched into my zillion worries about how I can't eat anything except dry crackers and am I harming the baby etc etc and the answer was, basically, "chill out - it's getting everything it needs." Also got a prescription for anti-nausea stuff so may give that a go.

Where i get care (called Kaiser Permanente) you then go back at 10 weeks for much more chat with the nurses and lots of forms - sounds like what you all are calling "booking in".

Well done all for getting through another work week! It's quite a battle, isn't it?

somethingwittynot · 15/06/2012 17:41

I'm a stay at home mum to DS but even I'm knackered!

Sirenetta · 15/06/2012 17:45

Didn't mean to imply that only the workplace is the knackerer :) Hope you can get some weekend sleep.

morecoffeemorecoffee · 15/06/2012 17:48

loveschocolate oh no! How many weeks are you? Hopefully your midwife will try and see you sooner. Does she have your dates etc?

spotty I think we loose our inhibitions when we get that 2nd line on the pregnancy test! Hope you have a better night tonight.

sirenetta how exciting! I bet it was amazing to see your baby and hear its little heart. When do you get another scan?

Pinkie29 · 15/06/2012 17:52

Sirenetta you aren't wrong there lord knows how I'll manage 9-5 when heavily pg! Still we get a year off so I'm working as close to my due date as possible! I was feeling so queasy all afternoon ick!

On practicalities I can't believe I've overlooked this - cars!! What happens now??

JNO18 · 15/06/2012 17:59

wow perfect I'm impressed. Might go back to bums and tums next week then.

welcome newbies!

I have my docs appointment on Weds next week. Excited!!

morecoffeemorecoffee · 15/06/2012 18:01

Yes pinkie we only have a little 4 seater car and with 2dc already, all the seats are full! Dh is excited about the excuse to get a new car, I'm just thinking about the £££££££!

Pinkie29 · 15/06/2012 18:04

We have two sporty 3 door hatchbacks :/ it's our first dc so plenty of seats but boot space isn't huge, I might really annoy dp and get a people carrier haha

morecoffeemorecoffee · 15/06/2012 18:14

We had a little 3 door hatch back when we had ds1. We ended up getting a bigger car (renault scenic) not long after he was born! However, when ds2 stopped using a pushchair last year, we sold it and bought a hatchback again. Looks like we will be waving goodbye to a small car forever now!

LittleMissSnowShine · 15/06/2012 18:28

Pinkie - I traded in my fiesta just before DS was born. We were going to upgrade from a Fiesta to a Focus but ended up going with a 2006 C Max. It's pretty huge and we only have on street parking so can be a pain to park sometimes but it's got loads of space in the boot, storage space everywhere, air con, great visibility and it's v comfy to drive. Until recently me and DH shared it so between that and the great space in the boot for shopping and a buggy it was v practical. Now DH has to have his own car for work tho so he bought a tiny, retro Fiat to get good petrol mileage out of it and i have the lumbering c max to myself. It's not a cool car by any means but I love it! (Next I'll be wearing Jeremy Clarkson jeans and doing my grocery shopping in M&S hee)

Sirenetta - I had to take cyclazine valoid tablets for the throwing up last time, i was a bit Hmm about taking them, hard to get thalidomide out of your mind, but they did help (even just because they made me so drowsy my body kind of forgot to feel sick!) and i only needed to take them for about 6 weeks...

SlightlyBaby - Amazon also have some mega buggy deals on if you keep your eyes peeled, u can get stuff on there brand new with warranty for less than u can pick it up off gumtree sometimes. I've got a Britax B Twin and I got it off amazon for a song, after I sold my old Maclaren on gumtree. Ah baby bargain hunting!

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 15/06/2012 18:29

Am setting myself a challenge, not to buy a single thing for baby, apart from nappies..... Ds I'd just two, we have everything we need ( plus more ) so what would I need I buy for second dc? Not going to find out gender so if dc2 is a girl then DH will have to do a mad shop, but our first clothes for ds were all unisex anyway and my mum bought a blue cardigan in the evening. Might buy some maternity clothes for me though as I was quite tight with buying them last time.

reckon I'll last a week

Disclaimer - if I get a bigger car that doesn't count!

LittleMissSnowShine · 15/06/2012 18:33

cheese - i'm attempting to do the same, a lot of my stuff for DS is fairly gender neutral so don't need a lot of stuff, maybe a new car seat and a new changing mat, but got vests, highchair, cot, moses basket, sling, cot mobile, nightlights, all that kinda stuff. it's HARD tho! don't know why but i feel like this one is a girl and i had a pretty strong feeling that DS was a boy from the word go, and whenever i think it's a girl i want to go and buy PINK (cos my house is drowning under blue stuff, Cars dvds, toy cars hee)

anewmotivatedme · 15/06/2012 18:37

Due date 18 Feb. Found out I was pregnant on Monday. Not sank in yet. Excited, nervous, worried about how we'll afford it... Tired and emotional stage.

somethingwittynot · 15/06/2012 18:44

Oh I know you weren't implying anything :)

We have an Astra Sri sporty 3 door thing. We will need another cotbed a double pram nappies another high chair and all the bit for hospital again. DS had quite alot of neutral stuff so we will use that to start with. didn't get out the hospital till three weeks after having DS hoping to be out sonner and then go shopping!

Pinkie29 · 15/06/2012 18:44

littlemiss that actually sounds great! I'm past the cool car if I'm honest! Time to grow up... Eeek! Still plenty of time to sort that! I can't wait to start buying little baby grows and booties Smile all neutral as not finding out the sex

MrsRT · 15/06/2012 18:46

Welcome newbies and congratulations! Well I've nearly finished week 6 and I'm looking forward to it getting easier already! I am SO tired all the time, it feels like I am constantly hungover! I'm trying not to moan too much as I know it's all worth it!

loveschocolate · 15/06/2012 18:50

anewmotivatedme can def identify with you. Almost 3 wks since I found out and still haven't told any family / friends as doesn't feel real yet.
morecoffeemorecoffee had to phone the unit directly as couldn't make the appt at the Drs surgery and waiting on a call back. Dr suggested an early dating scan as I conceived so soon after coming off the pill but think should be approx 7 weeks on Sunday.

Convinced I wouldn't suffer from ms as I can't remember the last time I vomited apart from with dreadful handovers but was wrong. Lasts all day:(

LittleMissSnowShine · 15/06/2012 18:51

anew - congrats and welcome! i was still a student when i found out i was pg with DS and now I only work part time so money is tight for us too. You can get great bargains if you shop around online and u can pick up great stuff second hand, so try not to let the money stuff get you down, u only need to spend a fraction of what people always tell u!

Pinkie - I used to drive a smartcar and when it's just me i'm often on foot or on my bike so I always feel a bit like an elephant in the car but it does encapsulate my sensible, mum side, with it's little car seat organisers, play trays, spare packets of raisins for DS to snack on etc Wink

I also didn't find out sex of DS and I don't think we will this time either (tho might change my mind!) but it's funny to see how much you just seem to know what you're having - ike when u pick neutral babygrows out, u still seem to pick ones which are a wee bit on the boyish/girly side and u find it much easier to settle on a boy's name rather than a girl's one, all that kind of stuff. I couldn't think of a single girl name last time I was pg and this time I've known about the baby for all of 4 days and i've got a girls name picked, just like that!

LittleMissSnowShine · 15/06/2012 18:53

loveschocolate - if the sickness is really bad, lasts all day and you feel like you're seasick, ask GP/midwife about getting a cyclazine prescription. hope u feel better soon x

MrsRT · 15/06/2012 18:54

Is anyone experiences waves of anger? I'm not generally an angry person but since becoming pregnant, I am terrible! I have been getting full on road rage, and my poor DH has had to put up with my rages! I think my colleague is suspicious as the littlest things are flipping me out! I suppose it could be nicotine withdrawal?!!

Pinkie29 · 15/06/2012 19:01

MrsRT I've defo snapped at dp a few times totally without meaning to? Just came out of nowhere which is so odd as I'm the calmest most rational person ever, in 2 years me and dp have only had 1 row!

somethingwittynot · 15/06/2012 19:10

I was on sickness and iron tabs last pregnancy though my body didn't absorb the iron and I ended up with four blood transfusions. Be interesting to see what my HB is now also I only had half of my rubella vaccine so does mean I'm still non immune?

loveschocolate · 15/06/2012 19:22

Thanks, Dr won't prescribe anything as I'm not actually vomiting - though a few close calls and constant nausea. I'd looked up a few papers on the subject and cyclizine and phenergan have a long history of being used without any adverse effects and there is increasing evidence for ondansetron so if it continues will go back to the Drs and argue my case.

MrsM80 · 15/06/2012 19:25

If I'm honest I haven't felt any different to normal so far. No mood swings (I can be a bit angry anyway!) no sore boobs, no toilet issues, no lack of sleep, appetite no different to normal and not feeling anymore tired than usual. Little bit bloated maybe but that's not unusual for me. I'm only 5.5 weeks so no nausea or sickness yet either. It's starting to worry me a bit as I feel like I should feel different. If I hadn't had 2 positive digi clear blue tests I'd be wondering if I were pg at all! It sounds daft but I kind of wish I had some sort of symptom (although I may be eating my words shortly) is that normal?

Pinkie29 · 15/06/2012 19:49

MrsM80 I know it's easy for me to say but try not to worry everyone's different and we all react differently to our changing hormones. A friend of mine never felt sick or vomited throughout her two pregnancies the girl who fitted my bra yesterday said she sailed through her pg and last two weeks she didn't stop being sick, her bf weighed less when she gave birth than she did at the start as she never stopped throwing up the whole time!

If you google it you'll get lots of results saying its very common
