Thought I'd get the ball rolling as I know there have been some BFPs in the last few days on here.....

Just got a confirmatory BFP on a clear blue. This will be DC2, DC1 will be two in two weeks!

So grab a seat, buckle up and enjoy the vino soft drinks on offer.

Ps is it really bad that I am craving a jug of Pimm's?!

Oh pickles! Hopefully the weekend will pass quickly!

I can't stop peeing today! Also can feel a migraine coming. My usual tablets can't be taken in pregnancy and paracetamol does nothing :( any suggestions?

BabylannShallFall · 14/06/2012 10:49

Maybe I'm getting a bit ahead of myself but I just spent an hour writing my birth plan, to see if it would make me feel better about a vbac. It didn't, it just made me brood on my last birth and feel even more reluctant for vbac and desperate for elcs... I just feel like deep down a vbac isn't going to work and I'm going to end up with a birth similar to my last which was quite awful and frightening.

I wrote that I'd be willing to try for vbac if I enter labour spontaneously (no induction) and things progress well... But I don't know. I've got myself all worked up thinking about it :(

How daft is that, it's ages away!

BabylannShallFall · 14/06/2012 10:50

X-post. Any chance you can take a nap or have a bath? Or do you have any of those cold pressure pads you can put on your head?

Only other suggestion is lots of water.

Thanks baby ds2 is off to preschool soon so I will be off to bed for a bit before gp appt.

What happened in your birth originally to result in EMCS? I was induced during my 1st birth. After 24hrs of labour and continuous contractions I was not progressing beyond 2-3cms. Had an EMCS in the end. Ds was back to back and had got stuck. He was a big boy (2wks over due and nearly 10lbs!) Dr said Ds would never had got through my pelvis! He also said he would recommend that I have the option of elcs in next pregnancy if I wished. However, fast forward 2yrs, I'm pregnant with ds2. Midwife is supportive if my wish for elcs. Scans show another large baby (some measurements off the scale!) Saw consultant to get her to book me in for elsc and she was a total cow to me. I spent 2hrs in that room crying and arguing for my elcs. Dh was with me and was so good and was very supportive. It was only the threat of us making a complaint that she agreed to book me in at 40wks. Refused to book me in at38wks which is the norm. She tried to argue that ds2 was average size and said all the scans etc were wrong! He was born on his due date, just under 10lbs!

I will be requesting an elcs with this pregnancy. I will be requesting to see my hospital notes on my previous births and will not be seeing that bitch consultant this time! Also, request to see your hospital notes. It may help you understand what happened last time. It may even reassure you that a vbac is possible and not as risky as you think.

My point is, be prepared for them to disagree with you decision. But make sure you are 100% happy with your birth plan.

BackPackBackPack · 14/06/2012 11:31

morecoffeemorecoffee I suffer with Migraines and my neurologist told me to use the Migraine strips and rub thing on my forehead. I've not used it yet as my migraines have not been to bad but before I fell pregnant and the medication never worked it worked really good.

I'm going to be Consultant led through my health. Does anyone know the difference between Midwife led and Consultant led?

I was Midwife led until my Due date with DD when I was referred to Consultants to be induced through bad SPD but DD was born 3 days later after a 3 day labour.

My sickness is quite bad today, DP came next to me but his deodorant made me vomit so he had to go and have a shower to wash it off. The only thing that doesn't make me vomit is water.

perfectshadeofgrey · 14/06/2012 11:31

baby - I think it also depends on what happened in your first birth.
vbac is possible but you have to be happy about the decision. It's very likely it will not go to plan if you are not sure during labour and getting stressed.

more - I didn't know I could request to see my notes. Thanks for the tip. I'll defo ask about that. I would love to see what exactly happened because I have a feeling that my memories of the day are somewhat different from what really happened :)

Pinkie29 · 14/06/2012 12:15

Anyone got their maternity bras yet?? Been spinning out of my regular ones so just popped to get a fitting all done now!

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 14/06/2012 12:50

pinkie where did you go for your fitting?

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/06/2012 12:57

Not yet, just waiting a bit longer.

Anyone going off loads of food? I've completely gone off chocolate (probably a good thing! Hope it lasts for the entire pregnancy!) Also, feeling really sick because I'm so hungry. The only thing I could manage was 3 cream crackers with a scrape of butter. Bread, salad etc makes me want to be sick :(

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/06/2012 12:58

Oh, by going off loads of food, I mean lots of different types of food rather than big portions! Haha!

Askja · 14/06/2012 13:16

Thanks LittleMiss, morecoffee and Babylann - will ask for MW-led then. Really hoping to avoid a CS this time as found the recovery v. hard. Early days yet though - only just made my booking-in appointment (they gave me 4th July). Will be nearly 10 weeks by then - seems a long way off...

loveschocolate · 14/06/2012 13:28

Since choosing my nickname ironically I'm off cakes, sweet things and diet coke. Bizarre because I usually drink more diet coke than is good for me. I was a bit concerned about my caffeine intake before pregnancy and how I'd cope with reducing it but even the thought of it makes me feel sick so have gone "cold turkey".

Mrs RT, I'm also in the Bristol area - North Somerset.

BabylannShallFall · 14/06/2012 13:40

Same as you, I wasn't progressing, I was in labour for 3 days and never got past 3cm. It was painful and tiring and I was frowned at on day 2 for asking for an epidural. I had mild pre eclampsia but they let me go two weeks over, I went into moderate pre eclampsia during labour. I had a high temperature and wasn't allowed to move from the bed for 2 days because of the induction and epidural. Then my pulse started to get faster so they decided it was a good time to do an ecg.

This isn't terrible in the grand scheme of things, but with my health anxiety disorder it was the most frightening time of my life, I had to have anti birth counselling and a year of cbt to recover enough to be ready for another baby.

I think I'll just have to be firm with my wishes, the more I think about it the more I think I can't even agree to attempt a vbac.

Dd was also big, though not as big as yours, 9lbs3 and 55cm long. (she has continued to be big, she's been in the next size up since she was born (just turned 2 and a lot of 2-3 stuff doesn't fit) and her daddy is very tall, so I predict another tall baby. And I'm 5'2 with a small spd riddled pelvis.

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/06/2012 14:04

baby sounds like you had a tough time. For what its worth, when I did have my elcs with ds2 it was a lovely experience. Dh and I arrived at the hospital at 8am and settled into our room which we would return to after the op for recovery. I walked down to the theatre and it was all calm and relaxed. I was able to express my wishes for the birth and they listened! I requested the screen be removed for the delivery which they did. They then lifted me up slightly and I saw hhim being born! I also held him straight away rather than Dh. Recovery was lots easier and even though I had a 2yr old at home, it wasn't that difficult.

McPrice · 14/06/2012 14:08

urgh did my first nightsift preggers last night, struggled without caffine. think i may have been going a bit peculiar by 4am, as was too tierd to read anything but restless at the same time, just woke up after broken sleep having to pee all the time :(
what doesnt kill me will make me stronger i guess...I miss redbull

Pinkie29 · 14/06/2012 14:20

cheese I went to Mothercare they were brilliant! Very helpful and put up with be trying in about 10 different ones! Got three in the end for £31 and she fitted them so that they were on the tightest hook so should see me throughout my pregnancy.

Also gave me a bunch of vouchers and signed up to something called 'baby & me'

LittleMissSnowShine · 14/06/2012 14:29

Morecoffee - maybe headache is dehydration? Or lack of caffeine? I've just switched to rooibos tea instead if my usual coffee and im.expecting some headaches now!

Babylann - maybe yr hospital can refer u to.a counselor (sp!) because that does sound like.u have been left a bit traumatised :( altho I.managed to avoid an emcs last time it was literally by the skin of my teeth and I had a pretty brutal episiotomy, lost a lot of blood and ended up with a bad infection. Im tempted to go elcs this time but onky thing that puts me iff is the recovery time and potential for complications with 2 kids to take care of. Thats why im.thinking of going to nct classes and mayve doing sime holistic stuff to help like birth prep yoga, hypnobirth and acupuncture - dont know.how helpful it will all be in the grand scheme of things but might help.me feel more in.control. Bollocks - I thought 2nd time round was supposed to be easier on us.lol

Bean - 50 euro, yep they wont miss the chance to get that off u - ouch! Hope things in.work.all work out for u

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/06/2012 15:06

Saw gp. He was great. Checked blood pressure etc and even congratulated me! Said they will go by my dates rather than when I ovulated until I have my first scan and will then recalculate. Therefore Drs due date is 13th Jan! Real due date will be more like 16th Feb. Got given a big pack with screening programmes info, NICE guidance booklet for antenatal care and a few leaflets. Just need to wait for midwife to call now to arrange booking appt. :)

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 14/06/2012 15:59

With the mothercare bras though from last pregnancy, I felt that they didn't give much support ( the bras not the staff Grin), which I need when I am a dd cup when not pregnant! Any other recommendations ladies? Otherwise I think will pop over to bravissimo.

perfectshadeofgrey · 14/06/2012 16:02

more - wow! that's great. I'm glad things have changed a bit :)

Pinkie29 · 14/06/2012 16:06

These ones feel great! I'm usually a small C but hit D already! Had them in the tightest setting and v comfy do plenty if room to grow

BeanDunne · 14/06/2012 16:10

Went to new look today to look at bump bands and they were reduced to 6 euro for three so i had to get them. i put one on just to see what it felt like and im now refusing to take it off as its so comfy :)

Telling my dad in a few hours and i cant wait :)

Im on the decaf tea and it tastes just the same as normal tea which is just great as i do love a cup or 20 in a day.

Mcprice how on earth did you cope with a night shift. i cant even stay awake all day let alone all night

LittleMissSnowShine · 14/06/2012 16:12

Cheeseandmushroom - I think bravado bras are excellent but u hav to order online or go to a maternity boutiwue kinda place - I was an e cup when I was preg so feel your pain!!

Morecoffee - yay, thats u well on the way now :)

QueenOfTheDrama · 14/06/2012 16:18

Glad docs app went well more Smile I was shocked when I called my GP surgery as I expected to have to go in at least for a general health chat, check blood pressure etc (this is what happened during my last pg but unfortunately didn't make it to any midwife appointments before mc). Apparently everything has changed now though in my area and you don't need to see anyone at all until 1st midwife app at 8wks. Just seems a bit strange to me that you can be left on your own for two months with no checks at all? Thank god for you lot, you're like my personal doctors I come to for advice for every twinge! Grin

mcprice Sad I haven't got to do any night shifts for a couple of weeks thankfully as my shifts are varied next week. I can imagine its going to be awful though, coffee and redbull are my friends during nights!

Welcome to joyful - lovely to see you here Smile

pinkie this will sound like a really dim question but how do the bra fitters know what size to give you this early on?! I've been thinking I should probably buy some of my maternity stuff early on as late in the pregnancy I'm pretty sure all my money will be spent on baby things!

Oh by the way - where is everybody in the country? I'm in North-West. I was told by the GP's receptionist to have a think about where I want to have the baby as the midwife will ask me at my first appointment. If anyone is near me, what hospitals are you considering? I'm torn between Ormskirk or Liverpool Women's.

QueenOfTheDrama · 14/06/2012 16:21

Oh forgot to say! bean like you I'm also telling my parents tonight! Well, if I don't bottle it that is Confused
