Thought I'd get the ball rolling as I know there have been some BFPs in the last few days on here.....

Just got a confirmatory BFP on a clear blue. This will be DC2, DC1 will be two in two weeks!

So grab a seat, buckle up and enjoy the vino soft drinks on offer.

Ps is it really bad that I am craving a jug of Pimm's?!

I've been told I'll be straight on the labour ward. I think I would prefer ELCS to be honest. At least I've got time to think about it before I have to argue my case cause I'm not 100%. It's a big decision isn't it? Childbirth isn't gonna be easy either way, but I'm really scared of rupture and in some ways I'd rather stick to what I know.

monstergoose · 13/06/2012 22:17

WRT the post above-I'm not sure that you can get an epidural in purely midwife led care as it has to be administered by an anaesthetist. So if you're in a birth centre within a hospital with a maternity ward you should be ok but if the hosp doesn't have a maternity ward then you won't get one :-( At least that's what happes with my local birth centre-only painrelief available is gas and air or pethidine even though it's within a hospital, as there is no maternity ward. Its a tough choice-really don't want to be stuck somewhere in agony and wanting an epidural but not sure I want to deliver in the skanky local hospital which is the other alternative!

Pinkie29 · 13/06/2012 22:20

When I get cramps I tell Poppy not to scare mummy Smile i also say hello haha

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 13/06/2012 22:27

We had to move off the midwife led unit for an epidural but it wasn't a biggy as it was only on the next floor up.. I didn't get great care in the midwife unit so it didn't make much of a difference, I was just happy to get some pain relief!

spottypyjamas · 13/06/2012 22:54

Hey again all,

Underwhelming appointment with GP on Monday - he basically said see the midwife and read up on the internet as i cant eat shellfish! yeah cheers for that, really worthwhile! Thank god for mumsnet eh!

Tried to make midwife appointment today but shes fully booked til mid July, and i cant make appointments beyond then as its too far away as "the system doesnt allow it". Shes going to ring me apparently. Wonder if i might need an early scan like a couple of you as if they go my my last period thats 6 weeks ahead of what i know i am.

I will wait patiently.

All this talk about bras on here today, can't wait to have to buy new ones, its the one part of my body i would happily allow to get bigger :)

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 13/06/2012 22:57

I have to see the dr apparently even though all he will do is look bored and tell the midwife to call me!

Pinkie29 · 13/06/2012 22:59

Spotty mine have git huge already! Am praying no-one notices before I've had my scan and shared the news! Convinced I have a tiny bump too but could be bloated

JoyfulJoyful · 13/06/2012 23:21

Hello ladies, may I please join you?
Nice to see familiar names Queen, Littlemiss, Pinkie, morecoffee from the conception thread.
Congratulations to everyone here.
Brief background on me - had a MMC in Feb, tested on Saturday and got faint lines, tested with a CB Digi on Subday, got 1-2 weeks, tested today and got 2-3 weeks which is encouraging however, I have been having the most uncomfortable pain in my stomach for 2 days now. Its a dull ache on my left side. I panicked and went to the hospital but Dr said too early to tell what is going on. She asked if it could be constipation but I 'went' this afternoon although I felt completely relieved but pain came back.

Sorry for the long mememe post but I am so uncomfortable and funny enough eating relieves the pain for a short while.

So, how's everyone doing? I'm 4+2 today.

Sirenetta · 14/06/2012 01:26

Hi everyone - wow, lots of posts!

Joyful, sorry about the pain. My guess is there's nothing wrong (not that I'm qualified or anything...). I have been having some random "flank" aches that go on for a day or so as well. Have been presuming it's all just connected to the little un burrowing down, and maybe the uterus beginning to change shape. Really uncomfortable. Despite it being June, I'm glued to my hot water bottle when at home.

I am 7.5 weeks by my calculations. I live in the US and have had a 2 week wait to see my ob/gyn but I get to go in on Friday. Reading about midwives and so forth on here makes me want to back in the UK for this bit of life. Worried about US maternity wards - lots of pitocin and a much higher chance of c-section. They say it's changing and there are ways to insist on your birth plan, but am skeptical [hmmm]. Much investigation to do!

D30rvg · 14/06/2012 07:03

Morning!

Woke up this morning to find a bit of blood when I wiped. Taking hope from all the previous posts that this will be completely fine but have all my fingers & toes crossed as well.

My first lesson this morning is being observed - the last thing I need. Got a few crampy pains in my tummy & nothing but baby on my mind. Will have to see how it goes.

LittleMissSnowShine · 14/06/2012 07:25

Hello joyful!

D30 - a bit if spotting can be normal but if its bright red or gets any heavier a phonecall to your GP might be in.order. Fx for u that it stops tho!!

whospickle/ monstergoose - im really debating where to hav this baby, hospital with shiny new home from home unit has some big pros but they cant guarantee u an epidural so I ended up with this other drug called remifentanil (which is not dissimilar to the drug that killed Michael Jackson...random trivia) which was a lot better than pethidine cos it doesnt cross the placenta and get into the baby's bloodstream and it also breaks down.v quickly which meant that I was back in reality v soon after they took.the drip out and I was (just!) able to push the baby out...pain relief free! I'd probably rather have a proper epidural next time tho so im thinking of local, slightly skanky hospital where an epidural is guaranteed, it's right beside where I work and they have a specialist neo natal unit just in case. I wish I wasnt such a wimp tho cos i'd love a home birth but I dont think I could handle it Blush

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/06/2012 07:25

joyful Congrats and welcome! I think dull aches are normal, but your gp is there to be pestered if your worried.

D30vrg hope you're ok. Spotting is common and normal. Take it easy today and keeping fx for you. My friend had spotting every 4wks or so for first 6months of pregnancy. Her baby is now a energetic 6yr old girl at school!

LittleMissSnowShine · 14/06/2012 07:32

Ps spotty pyjamas - I also have to see useless gp first, and couldnt even get an appt there til 26th and then have to wait another few weeks til.booking in.appt with midwife. Im only 4 + 1 today but still, it does seem.like a.long wait doesnt it??

Pinkie29 · 14/06/2012 07:45

My mw appointment is next Friday and I'm literally counting the hours!! Taken the the off as won't be able to think straight after Smile

JoyfulJoyful · 14/06/2012 08:04

Thanks Littlemiss & Morecoffee, I think I'm a bit more relaxed now but I still haven't got any symptom just slight boob pain when I take my bra off.

D30, blood in pregnancy doesn't always mean doom. My sister bled buckets in her first pregnancy and that baby will be 9 in Sept.

BabylannShallFall · 14/06/2012 08:33

Yeah my cousin is also 26 years of proof that bleeding in pregnancy doesn't necessary mean anything bad.

Couldn't sleep last night for nausea, every time I started drifting off I'd wake up with a jolt and feel extremely sick. And when I did finally get to sleep I had a dream I was bleeding and trying to get to hospital but people kept stopping me or getting in the way.

A rough night over all!

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/06/2012 09:12

Seeing gp today. We have a phone on the day system. However, the 2 gps I like are off today so I have Dr grumpy instead. I have to see gp to get referred to midwife. I'm quite excited as even though I know the appt will be seriously underwhelming, its another step closer to a scan and makes everything seem that bit more real.....

Been struggling to get up in the mornings, I'm so tired! Ended up rushing around this morning to get Ds to school on time and now feel very nauseous.

BeanDunne · 14/06/2012 09:32

Morning all :)

d30 i bet it must be scary to see blood but its totally normal. but just watch it to make sure it doesn't get worse.

Welcome joy congrats to you :)

Im 4 weeks today wooooo. Blasty is now an embryo or so my email told me today. i had the most horrible dreams last night and they felt so real i woke up scared outta my wits.
Went to bed last night feeling as sick as a pig but didn't actually get sick.
I should probably phone my doctor and make an appointment really shouldnt i.

I get to buy things today to treat myself after having coffee decaf tea with my manager about a complaint i made. im pretty nervous about the whole thing really. i just hope he takes me seriously

perfectshadeofgrey · 14/06/2012 09:33

This thread is moving so fast wow.
Hello new people.
Just wanted to say that sometimes you don't need to the GP at all (it's a waste of time anyway. all he'll say is : are you happy? which hospital do you want to go to?') In my hospital (where I had DD) you can self refer. You just call them up and make the appointment over the phone. I know for a first time mum it's very exciting thinking about their first mw appointment but when I had mine the first time around I was really underwhelmed. She asks a lot of questions and starts filling in your notes. It's the first scan when things start getting really exciting :o

Hope you are all well today :)

BabylannShallFall · 14/06/2012 09:43

Yeah, dp literally went into the clinic and said 'my partner is pregnant', they gave me an appointment with the midwife straight away.

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/06/2012 09:44

Hi perfect my gp surgery still runs the same system as they did 7yrs ago during my 1st pregnancy! You have to see gp who refers you to the practice midwife who's in the same building! Total waste of time and a waste of a Drs appt, but that's their system apparently!

perfectshadeofgrey · 14/06/2012 09:49

morecoffeemorecoffe - what a waste of time and money isn't it? The funniest thing is the GP really doens't do anything, only refers to you to the mw. No check if you are really pregnant. Nothing.

BeanDunne · 14/06/2012 10:00

Well i bet over here they make you see the doctor as it costs 50 euro and they wouldn't want to miss out on that now would they.
Ill pop in today and ask

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/06/2012 10:03

I know. When I was pregnant with dc1 and dc2, I had to see gp, told him I was pregnant. He gave me a piece of paper to take back to reception which asked the receptionist to book me in with midwife! I'm expecting today to be the same. They don't do a preg test, so its utterly pointless!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 14/06/2012 10:34

Im going in Tuesday. Pain in the bum! Angry
