Thought I'd get the ball rolling as I know there have been some BFPs in the last few days on here.....

Just got a confirmatory BFP on a clear blue. This will be DC2, DC1 will be two in two weeks!

So grab a seat, buckle up and enjoy the vino soft drinks on offer.

Ps is it really bad that I am craving a jug of Pimm's?!

Thanks for the tips re sizing in different shops littlemiss - think I'll go with the generous sizing shops so I don't feel as bad!! Blush

Have finally got through to clinic, they said midwife doesn't want to see me until 8wks so have got appointment for 9th July- that seems like ages away!! Sad Also out of all the different people I've spoken to today not one of them said congratulations, just asked me if I wanted to keep the baby or not?! Got off the phone and wanted to cry! Stupid hormones!!

LittleMissSnowShine · 13/06/2012 15:10

Oh no Queen, not a great start! I suppose they are just trying to be impartial and non-judgemental and stuff but nothing beats a great big flipping CONGRATS!! Hope you get a nice midwife - there are some really lovely ones, and the ones on the ward I thought were excellent and the community ones who visited me at home afterwards for a few weeks too but the one who was attached to my old GP surgery was a bit of a stroppy cow! I moved house and changed GP tho so won't be seeing her again this time - phew! She told me at 30 weeks that she thought she was definitely hearing 2 heartbeats Shock (there was definitely only one in there) and then she told me at 36 weeks baby was breech (he wasn't!) so don't let the strange medical professionals you meet along the way put you off!

I was thinking about doing the NCT classes this time round. I didn't before but i used to go to a mum and baby NCT group which was fab and i had such a yuck experience delivering DS i thought they might be quite good for helping me feel a bit more positive/excited about the birth. Anyone else been to these? Thinking of going??

orangewellies · 13/06/2012 16:12

Wowsers this thread moves fast! Congrats to any new BFPs!! I'm with those who tested too early - I'm only 4+4 today and feels like I've known forever! Last times I was really relaxed and waited until AF was like a week late, which reduced the waiting until 12 weeks, much better strategy! Was too impatient this time.

Got my booking in appoint yesterday for 3 weeks - the receptionist said I should have it at 8-12 weeks and then booked me in for 7 weeks(!) I wasn't going to correct her - at least it will feel like things are a bit more real then!

I totally forgot about the soft eggs the other day and ate one, which i then also realised was a few days out of date - Shock, so of course i was panicking all day, but i guess if it didn't make me sick then all is well...must be more careful. I think peanut butter is OK now (they do keep changing the 'rules' on that though) as long as you don't have a history of nut allergy or eczema/asthma.

Queen thats really rubbish not to hear congrats from the medical people - don't they realise this is an emotional time?! The receptionists are particularly miserable at our surgery so wouldn't have expected to hear anything positive from them!

BabylannShallFall · 13/06/2012 16:46

Just got back from my midwife appointment, got a scan for tuesday! Because my last period would make me 14 weeks (even though I'm sure I'd actually be 6-7 weeks) she just wants to make sure...

I'm so excited! Grin

Mw seems nice, though she did tell me I'd be having a vbac when I hadn't actually decided, but I won't let it bother me too much until the actual appointment with the consultant towards the middle of the pregnancy.

eggandbean · 13/06/2012 16:56

Wow Babylann that's exciting!! Glad mw was nice too.

BackPackBackPack · 13/06/2012 17:02

Babylann that is very exciting :o

morecoffeemorecoffee · 13/06/2012 17:49

Oh, how exciting baby ! I see my gp tomorrow to get referred to midwife. My last period was actually a chemical pregnancy and started on Friday 13th April so, going by that I should be 8weeks preg now! I'm not though, I'm about 4/5 wks. I wonder if my midwife will do the same? I'm pretty sure I Ov last week of may.

MrsM80 · 13/06/2012 18:21

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this but found out on Sunday that I'm pregnant. It's my first and by my calculations I'm due around mid February!

Seeing the doctor on Monday and ccan't wait to get things started! Very excited. Finding it hard not to tell people and feel like I'm starting to show already (is that even possible???).

Congratulations to you all. I look forward to chatting to you all over the coming months!

x

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 13/06/2012 18:26

Babylann I didnt have a consultants appt lst time (I was MW led) will I get one this time if I am consultant led do you know?

I dont care how they get it out, as long as I have an epidural! Thats my plan.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 13/06/2012 18:28

Scan as well!! Thats really good isnt it. Is the normal one 12 weeks? I got told they did them at 9 now.

Pinkie29 · 13/06/2012 18:32

I've been sticking to scrambled eggs, will defo miss poached eggs!

SlightlyBabyCrazed · 13/06/2012 19:09

Hi MrsM80 - congratulations! Welcome to the crew, feel free to tell us all about your aches and pains, we seem to be getting experts already!

SlightlyBabyCrazed · 13/06/2012 19:12

AFM, my cramps had cleared up but have been constipated Blush and am now quite crampy with dull stabby type feeling up my foof. Am desperately trying not to fret about it as my sane mind knows this is all normal!
Am a bit concerned about my digestive system now though, as I have mostly eaten fruit and veg the last two days and still bunged up! SadBlush

morecoffeemorecoffee · 13/06/2012 19:20

Hi slightly I got slightly constipated in my last pregnancy, not badly, just not as regular as I liked so I was feeling uncomfortable iyswim. I bought a powder from supermarket which was powdered chicory so natural. It dissolved in liquid and had no taste or smell. Although you could try and get something on px as it would be free.

morecoffeemorecoffee · 13/06/2012 19:29

Hi all, just a bit more on eggs Grin there is another thread here if you wanted to take a look

BabylannShallFall · 13/06/2012 20:00

Luckily I don't have to worry about eggs! Even the smell of DP cooking them made me feel awful earlier, let alone the idea of actually eating one!

As for the scan, she said (for our area at least) that they don't usually do them until 11-14 weeks because then you can have the scan which checks for downs syndrome, etc. Most of my friends had theirs at 12 weeks. I'm guessing mine will purely be a dating scan, as I know in my heart I'm not 14 weeks along - there just wasn't enough sex at the right time, and I definitely felt ovulation happening - and me getting a BFP 2 weeks later! Hopefully I will still have the option to go to the 12 week scan because I would like to get to that stage and get a "great, first trimester is over and everything is going well so far" time like I had with DD's first scan.

I also double checked that if it's too early they won't try and give me the dildo cam. Really, really don't fancy that!

Welcome MrsM80, congratulations :)

I'm not sure Whospickle, this is only my 2nd pregnancy. I've always heard that if you have a caesarean 1st time around that you'll have an appointment 2nd time with a consultant to discuss VBACs and ELCSs, even if MW care.

There were lots of things that were different this time around. For example, she said "Absolutely no drinking is recommended in pregnancy" whereas my last mw team were very clear in "1 glass of wine occasionally is fine!" And she also said paracetemol is absolutely fine to take if I'm ill, but nothing else, whereas last mw team said to try and avoid taking anything at all if I'm ill.

It really didn't help that DD was there. She had to rush through all the paperwork and questions because DD is only 2 and not accustomed to sitting in one spot for more than a couple of minutes, so having a bit of a grumble at her misfortune!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 13/06/2012 20:08

I`ll find out soon enough! Just being impatient.

They came to my house last time so I hope they do the same again! Its a day when I have DS so I`ll be in the same boat. He is like a wild animal at the moment!

morecoffeemorecoffee · 13/06/2012 20:33

Quick question-

Does steak have to be cooked through or is medium/medium well ok? I'm cooking it now with salad for dinner. Thanks!

LittleMissSnowShine · 13/06/2012 20:53

morecoffee - cooked through i believe. eyeugh!

welcome mrsm!

how exciting baby - i got an early scan with DS because going by dates i was 10 weeks tho of course in reality i was only 6 weeks or something. i think this time round my cycle was only about a week out of sync tho so no early scan for me! Not that there's much t see but it's so lovely to see the little heartbeat flickering away on the screen :)

whospickle - i don't think nhs will guarantee that you'll be seen by a consultant unless there's a specific medical issue that makes it necessary. if you opt out of midwife care they'll either get you to see a dr in the hospital, who wil be either a registrar or possibly a consultant, or some hospital units will get you to to go to your GP for most appointments, other than the scans. Just depends! As far as I know, it's still somewhere around 10-12 weeks you get your first scan. Even tho i pretty hairy delivery last time round i think i'm still going to go midwife-led unless the scan shows anything strange or startling up...

BabylannShallFall · 13/06/2012 21:12

Yep cooked through, apparently can't have any blood at all.

I was planning on announcing my pregnancy after my 12 week scan so if I don't have one, I won't have the milestone to aim for anymore! And when I do get to 12 weeks, how will I know things are still ok? iyswim Confused

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 13/06/2012 21:18

I`ll be consultant led for sure, to be honest I don't mind as they have the best drugs!

I'm all about the pain relief me!

Askja · 13/06/2012 21:20

Wow! Been away for 2 weeks (in Wales... camping... yes it was quite wet...) and suddenly there are 400+ posts! Congrats to all with BFPs.

Have been feeling quite queasy at breakfast although not been sick yet...

LittleMiss I went to NCT classes with my first and they were very good - positive but thorough - would def recommend them.

I went with midwife-led last time (was 'low risk') and the care was good. Really want to do the same this time but not sure if I'll be allowed (had an EMCS so now 'high risk') - anyone know?

BabylannShallFall · 13/06/2012 21:32

I had EMCS and pre-eclampsia last time and have been put on MW led this time :)

morecoffeemorecoffee · 13/06/2012 21:38

Had my steak, twas very tasty, even though it was cooked more than I liked. Just eaten some cheesecake and then realised that that may not be ok! Blimey, considering I've gone through 2 pregnancies before, I can't remember anything! It's our wedding anniversary tonight so cooked us some dinner after the dc went ro bed. No wine or champagne tonight though- oj and lemonade instead, its practically a cocktail! Grin

askja during my 1st pregnancy I had a easy trouble free time, mid wife led, but had emcs in the end. With dc2 I saw consultant at about 30 wks as I wanted a csection again. I was booked in for one on my due date. I only saw consultant that one time. Had another appt at 37wks at hospital to arrange the anaesthetic and have a general health check (weight, bp, check maternity notes etc) and that was it. Everything else throughout the pregnancy was midwife led and all nhs.

LittleMissSnowShine · 13/06/2012 21:55

Askja - Yes, as far as I know, if you want a VBAC and you want midwife-led care then unless there's a specific health issue for you or the baby I think you should be ok to go ahead with that. Thanks for the NCT tip, might just do that!!

WhosPickle - Not sure what your hospital is like but the one I went to last time had a traditional labour ward and a midwife-led home from home unit in the same building. For us, though, even if you opted for midwife-led care yous till got to decide when you turned up in labour whether you wanted to go to home from home or onto the ward. My original plan was home from home but i had horrific spurious labour that didn't let up even though i was dilating really really slowly so I decided to go straight for the ward and a mobile epidural thingy. I was still able to get this (or a traditional epidural or pethidine) under midwife-led care - the only things midwives can't do are sections or forceps, and if you need either of those (fx not!) they can just page a dr. The only reason I'm saying this is that if you go midwife led then the people you see at your hospital appts will prob end up being the ones to deliver the baby and maybe see you at home afterwards which is nice, whereas if you go with consultant or dr-led care then you'll prob only see a dr (and possibly not even the same dr) a couple of times durand they won't necessarily be there when you're in labour, though the midwives will be. And you should be entitled to the same drugs either way!! Dr-led care is probably great too, though, but I'd be sure and find out what the benefits of each approach is at the hospital/birth centre you'll be going to.
