minipie glad baby is there and wriggling, and hope you manage to work out what is best for you and your family re. testing

really p*ed off that i haven't even got an appointment for a scan yet, i'm 10+5 :( want something to look forward to

morning sickness however has made a reappearance but i am hoping it is only in the mornings, that i can cope with

oh and chocolate pop tarts, god i'm eating so much crap!

cashmere · 25/05/2012 09:24

Hi not posted for ages, but come on to have a whinge!

Still not got a scan date despite chasing it up since 1st May. I'm now 12,3 (but only 11,4 by their dates). I want nuchal and go on holiday next weekend. So only 5 poss days to have scan and cancel things at work in order to attend (I work in nhs so will need to cancel own patients at short notice).

I've booked a private nuchal for tomorrow but cam only afford basic one and nhs one includes blood markers. Also means I've not had any standard blood tests, urine etc.

I've chased it up ++ and spoken to midwife 4 times and hospital 3. It's just a farce!

PurplePidjin · 25/05/2012 10:23

Adjusted risk for Trisomy 21 - 1:9474

:)

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 25/05/2012 10:25

cashmere, i've had to chase my booking appointment, and they've shoved me in at the hospital ante-natal tomorrow lunchtime (weekend appointments unheard of round here) and it's 10 miles away, and no scan appointment yet either. I'd say keep on at them, hope you get one soon!

brooke89 · 25/05/2012 12:36

Nice to read all the good news about scans, mines next Thursday and am so excited! Hope everyone's who's having problems getting there's booked gets that sorted too!

Any existing mums out there know if migraines are common at this stage? I have a really bad one and have had to go home from work Sad boss was really off with me about it and asked If I can't just take paracetamol... Really don't want to take much during pregnancy and have already taken 4 today. Now at home feeling sorry for myself and worried boooohooooo

Chloe55 · 25/05/2012 12:51

Paracetamol doesn't even touch a migraine anyway brooke - I feel your pain, not had one for a good year (touch wood) but they are hideous things. I have started with a headache a few days ago that won't leave but read somewhere that the changes in hormones can cause this - I guess it depends if you have any idea what triggers your migraines (for me it's certain lights) but yours could be hormonal?

FriendofDorothy · 25/05/2012 13:13

Scan went fine. I am 10+5 today and they have given me an EDD of 16 December. Feel very relieved and he told me to try not to get too upset aboout the bleeding. Baby was very wriggly today!

MyDaydream · 25/05/2012 13:13

Still no scan letter for me. Had a massive wobble last night brought on from not being able to find a letter I need to start my new job. Spent a good hour wailing about how if I can't keep a letter safe how am I going to keep a baby safe, and on and on and on.

I'm also now officially more pregnant than I got last time which I'm very happy about, but seem to have traded nausea in for extra tiredness.
Also all you ladies who were talking about Mars Icecreams are evil, I live in a village that has three shops and not one of them sells ice cream and we don't seem to get an ice cream van either.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 25/05/2012 13:37

i hate you all! my ice lollies are no longer cutting it, might take the kids to the corner shop to 'treat' them to an ice cream so i can get a mars bar ice cream :) lol

Stacks · 25/05/2012 14:13

Glad to hear good news about scans, mine isn't till next Wed. I think the lovely weather will make the weekend fly by, so it's really not long to wait now.

Nothing else to report here though, tired today, with a bit of a headache. Could just be from the sunshine though. I think I'm going to try and swing going home early today, maybe take an afternoon nap outside in the sun.

minipie · 25/05/2012 17:37

Thanks for all the good wishes all. So, it's all moved pretty quickly today - I went to the Fetal Medicine Centre this morning for a more detailed scan, they gave me slightly lower odds for Downs (1:175) but quite high odds (1:42) for Edwards and Patau syndrome (haven't googled but know these are v serious) due to bloods and nuchal thickness. So we decided to go for a CVS... Had CVS at St George's this afternoon, will get results mid next week. Going to be a nerve wracking few days but I am clinging to the 41:42 odds that everything is ok.

Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely sunny weather - I think it's helping me be a bit more relaxed about it all.

cashmere best of luck, keep at them!

Stacks · 25/05/2012 17:58

Oh mini, sorry I didn't respond to your news before. I've had an awful headache today, though that is a poor excuse. I'm sure everything will be fine for you and your bean. You still have excellent odds for everything being fine. Statistics and odds are scary things, sometimes you just have to accept them, then forget about them. Just think, if you had a 1 in 40 chance of something good happening to you, you'd tell yourself not to get your hopes up because the chances are out won't happen. Well, this is the same (though backwards obviously) you have a 1 in 40 chance of something bad, so tell yourself there's practically no chance, and carry on as normal.

I found out today that we have downs in the family, I wonder how that will change our odds with the test?

CODwidow · 25/05/2012 18:27

Awful awful headaches Angry

StrawberrytallCAKE · 25/05/2012 20:00

minipie I really hope your results are the best you can get. I would have gone for the CVS too.

Stacks, my dbro has downs and it didn't affect the odds with me, mw told me 95% of downs are not hereditary or genetically transferrable to other family members.

mwahmwah · 25/05/2012 20:50

So scary for you miniple. As others have said think of the positives in the odds. So hard to think of it like that though. Really hoping you get the best possible outcome.x

lauraloo09 · 25/05/2012 20:57

minipie fingers crossed for good results next week xxx

had my scan today and it was great, bubs wouldnt stay still for sonographer to measure him/her properly they finally managed to measure after 30 mins of trying lol so im 12w+2 and due date now 5th dec so need to change my stats lol the baby did wave at us tho which was great :)

CODwidow · 25/05/2012 21:32

Thinking of you minipie I'm sure it's very scary but please remember for all the odds not in your favour there are a lot in your favour (if that makes sense) Smile

Chloe55 · 25/05/2012 22:53

Fingers crossed for a good result mini, everything will be fine I'm sure.

Another one with headaches here, 4 days and counting Sad

SeymoreButts · 25/05/2012 23:49

Minipie I'll be thinking of you. Like you say, the chances are your baby does not have Edwards and Patau, just keeping thinking about that and stay away from google. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to google. I'm still haunted by things I googled in my last pregnancy

SeymoreButts · 26/05/2012 00:03

Sorry, Edwards or Patau.

Also congratulations to those who had scans today. Is anyone else having to get up a few times in the night to use the toilet already? It's really annoying, I've tried not drinking during the night but that just gives me a terrible headache.

kateand2boys · 26/05/2012 09:02

minipie so sorry to hear about your anxious wait. Cod is right there is a higher chance that everything is fine, than things are not OK. Sending good thoughts your way Smile

Congrats to all those who have had good outcomes at scans, still no twins yet Grin I have a friend who is convinced I'm having twin girls, hope not!!!

To add to the opinions on travel systems, I had one with ds1 and hated it. It was very top heavy to push and I didn't like him being in his car seat too much. So when I had ds2 I bought a pram and the biggest car seat I could and left the seat in the car permanently and used to scoop ds2 out when needed. I much preferred this. I still have moses basket and will be buying a baby bath. I think I;m going for the icandy apple, as I'll be walking to school and back everyday, so want something substantial for the colder weather. I'll still have to go out in the snow.

I've been too busy to post this week, real life has got in the way, work, school trips, mufti, special assemblies etc. I was exhausted last night and fell asleep at about 9, bit pathetic. Not as bad as last Sunday when I slept in til 9, had a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and went to sleep at 8 Blush I was starting to forget what my family look like Blush

So Envy of those craving food, I am eating about half of what I normally do and I haven't eaten bread for a bout 6 weeks. Still, I'm no Tinkerbell, so maybe this isn't such a bad thing. However, I can't get enough of anything lemon flavoured, but not sweet things, the sourer the better. Yesterday, I even ate slices of lemon, nice and cold from the fridge and my lemon ice lolly count for yesterday was ... 5!!

Got a scan booked for tomorrow, I'm very anxious, not excited at all. This is my third, I've no history of miscarriages and I'm convinced every time that they'll tell me it's fresh air up there and I've made a mistake, despite the 10 positive pregnancy tests. Would it be unreasonable to take another one at this stage?

itsMYNutella · 26/05/2012 10:13

minipie we're thinking of you and your anxious wait, keeping everything crossed for good news!

Well I went from being crazy hungry on Thurs to eating much more normally yesterday. We're having a BBQ with friends tonight, I'm not craving too many sweet things ( not more than normal anyway) .....

But I've made couscous this morning for the BBQ, might be the only thing I eat tonight, it's sooooo good!!

minipie · 26/05/2012 11:49

thanks everyone xx

Hello all - I'm rocking a stomach upset which, along with constant feelings of sickness, has meant that I'm actually sipping Oral Rehydration Salts this morning. It's very hot and humid here, lovely H has taken the toddler and the dog for a long walk in the woods, coming home via the shop for some gatorade (not as nice as lucozade, sniff) for me!
I am also staring down a banana, trying to muster the strength of will to eat it. yesterday 2 bowls of cereal and a hard-boiled egg. We've run out of lemons AND oranges - I can't cope! going to do a bit (citrus-obsessed) shop today!

Clarella · 26/05/2012 15:05

Thinking of you minipie as others have said the odds are in your favour, but I know what I'm like with odds and obsess over the negative bit manically.

Glad scans seem good so far - keep staring at ours ( and a suspicious dangly bit)

On the madness score starting to realise recent depression/anxiety/loss of marbles very likely to be thyroid linked on top of preggo madness. It's 8 times more than it should be and doubled in 3 weeks; I usually go a little loopy but it creeps up so much slower normally. Really hoping baby will be ok. At least the consultant is on the job. After 3 days of mega dose actually feel saner already!

seymore it sounds like you've naturally stabilized, anything below 2.5 is v good but you could ask again in a month or so.

New citrus obsession: red grapefruit. Pink doesn't cut it and 15p more pricey : ) think ill try squeezing one in a bit!
