spotty how exciting for you and your friend!

giraffe213 · 01/06/2012 20:26

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking on and off for a while but thought I'd finally make an appearance :) Due 7th December, first pregnancy, very excited! Wake up every morning hoping to not feel sick any more but even if I feel a little better first thing, it comes back at some point before lunchtime. Eating helps as long as it's nothing too fatty/sugary/salty (so basically nothing interesting!). I still can't eat chocolate at all :( though small amounts of chocolate cake are beginning to seem interesting again.

I'm amused by your conversations about being teary... several of your anecdotes have made me cry just by feeling your emotional-ness!! And the other week I cried until I had a nosebleed watching Lorelai and Luke split up on Gilmore Girls Blush

Has anyone else been having nosebleeds? I read that they can be pregnancy related but my GP doesn't seem to think so and is talking about sending me to have a camera put up my nose if they don't clear up. Seems like a bit of an over-reaction to me.

nasara · 01/06/2012 20:35

I have nosebleeds occasionally - and did so with dd, too.

Welcome to all the newbies - seems to be a tonne of babies due in December - someone's bound to have a xmas baby (please don't be me...!)

6 more sleeps till my scan - anyone taking their dcs to the scan?

SpottyTeacakes · 01/06/2012 20:39

I will be taking dd as she has a peads appointment just before. Dp will be with me though so can take her out if he needs to

CODwidow · 01/06/2012 20:44

They don't allow dc's into scans here so have to leave them behind.
I've had a couple of nosebleeds so far but did with the others so pretty normal I guess.
I also cried because ds who's 5 went to the optician today and his eyes have become even worse so I bawled my eyes out once I'd dropped him back to school, oops!
Had to stop myself buying some little teeny vests today I've promised myself I'll buy some after my scan and show them to dm when I pick the boys up.

PrunellaDeVille · 01/06/2012 20:59

all alone tonight and have just spent hours pawing through name lists endlessly. i've been at it for weeks (not to quite this extreme) but i just can't seem to find that perfect combination.
this is becoming an obsession Blush

cried when DM told me she'd passed on our news to my grandmother - admittedly i had been looking forward to it so i was a bit peeved - but DM told me i was acting like i was 15 again Sad bloomin hormones

welcome giraffe

Clarella · 02/06/2012 00:00

Hi giraffe!
Hope you feel better soon kate - I know its no fun but try to soak up the sleep.

Mmmm rediscovered crab sticks today :)

Couple o tears shed at desert island discs this morn, then absolute tears of screaming laughter watching nina conte on that Russell whatsit show (bbc3?) - so doubled over and weak I started worrying about the wee lemon in side me! I wonder what they do with the jiggling and giggling - think they pick up the feel good hormones? She may be a good cure Kate :)

Chloe55 · 02/06/2012 07:17

Welcome newbies Smile

prunella u have every right to be upset, it was your news to share, not your dm's, I'd be well pissed off!

Going ok in this household so far. Dh hasn't had one drink since last weekend, has been very grumpy but then hes used to his bottle of wine on a night so I'm guessing it's a bit of withdrawal so trying to stay supportive. Went to pizza hut last night and he had a coke Smile Monday is the big test as we will be socialising but trying to stay positive he won't let me down. Thing is, I'm not sure what my tolerance/crossed line should be. Obviously my issue is that he's a horrible git when he gets totally wasted, however, I'm not sure it's realistic for him to completely stop drinking nor do I actually want him to if that makes sense Confused But can someone with a binge drink problem pull themselves back from the brink but still be able to have civilised drinks?

I still have protein in my urine despite a course of antibiotics according to dr receptionist-she told me to contact midwife, which I tried, left a message etc, heard nothing Angry

Work is ridiculously busy at mo, back there again in half hour then working Tuesday too Sad my next break is end of July and it can't come soon enough, I am physically exhausted.

Barbeasty · 02/06/2012 07:46

Chloe- glad things are going well with your DH.

Giraffe- just read in my pregnancy book that nose bleeds are common at this point, due to increased blood flow to the vessels there, but if you get loads to go to your GP who may refer you to a specialist.

We showed DD (who's nearly 2) the scan pictures and said the baby was waving at her from mummy's tummy. She's grasped the big sister bit (the words anyway) but when we just asked her where the baby was she pointed to DH's tummy!

SpottyTeacakes · 02/06/2012 09:04

Prunella I would be upset too definitely your news to tell!

Glad things are going well Chloe Smile I don't have any experience so can't really advise but I would say a couple of drinks would be fine but (if it was my dp) I would want him to have gone more than a week without drinking before starting again.

Feeling a bit ill this morning woke at 5:30 so hoping dp will let me go back to bed for a bit once he's back from buying bacon Grin.

Sorry previous poster I can't remember your name (on my phone) sounds like your dc is the same age as mine I'll be interested in what she thinks of it when I show her the scan photo. Are you going to buy one of those 'mummy's having a baby' books or anything to prepare her? Dd loves babies but gets upset when they cry!

ivanapoo · 02/06/2012 10:35

Prunella can understand your annoyance - my MIL has told a load of people despite being under strict instructions not to (not at 12 wks yet). We only found out as DH received a bday card from a family friend mentioning it.

Luckily the preg hormones are making me very zen so I haven't gone apeshit! ;)

beccabubbless · 02/06/2012 13:48

hii everyone (waves!)
so glad ive found a group of people as emotionality distraught at i am, cried over my ratio of mashed potato to shephards pie yesterday.. my DP literally thought i was losing the plot!
10 weeks today,, just wondering from anyone elses experience....
going to a bbq tonight with a load of DP's friends, and we dont see them very often.. do you recon its too early to tell them?

prunella/ ivananpoo i would pull up the MIL's on it! its not their news to tell, and you might have / have been obviously waiting for a reason.. maybe they were just excited and didnt know it was a secret?!

ivanapoo · 02/06/2012 14:09

Hi becca and congrats! I told small circle of friends at 10 weeks mainly because after a 5th night of no booze they were clearly becoming suspicious... I have been careful not to tell people at work or people who know people I work with.

I would be careful telling anyone except your closest most trustworthy friends if you don't want lots of people to know - the least close friend I told (more through default) went on to tell a few people which annoyed me.

In MIL's case she said "we swear to keep our mouths shut" without even any prompting from us so definitely no ambiguity there! We did back it up with "please don't tell anyone". I'm not massively pissed off but I might be when I find out exactly how many people they've told!

Barbeasty · 02/06/2012 14:13

Spotty- I think I'll get a book or 2 nearer the time, and hope as the bump gets bigger she'll start to understand more.

There are some good threads around too, with ideas of things like getting a present for older DC from the baby (apparently babies are magic like father Christmas so can shop before birth).

What she'll make of a real baby, competing for attention though...

beccabubbless · 02/06/2012 14:34

yeah,, my employers already know as ive been off of work for a month with horrific morning sickness (and i work in a kitchen!)

the scan thats coming up is the neural defects one, which tells us about downs and that sort of thing.. but does it tell me anything else? do i find out the sex at this one? or is that later?!
ive tried asking my mw about it and she was useless busy so didnt really explain?!
im 20 and this is my first pregnancy, so hand holding neccessary! sorry :(

ivanapoo · 02/06/2012 15:17

Hi becca usually your first scan is for dating too so they measure the baby to see how far along you are.

Barbeasty · 02/06/2012 16:08

They date the pregnancy by measuring the distance from head to bottom (crown to rump), and look for the heart beat and that everything else they expect to see is there.

I think they could guess the sex, but not accurately so you have to wait for the 20 week scan for that- if your hospital has the policy of telling you, some don't.

Your letter should tell you if you can buy pictures, and how much they are. I'm very jealous of DH's colleague who just had the 20 week scan. Because they agreed to let a trainee do the scan they got the pictures free (normally £5 each at their hospital) and she accidentally printed about 10 off!

This book is good for telling you what to expect at each stage, and a good (but scary!) section on giving birth.

FriendofDorothy · 02/06/2012 17:34

I was very cross because a colleague (fortunately not a close colleague) told a completely nuts patient on the ward that I couldn't come and see her because I was pregnant (she has chicken pox). I was absolutely livid because I really didn't want my clients to know yet!

itsMYNutella · 02/06/2012 18:23

Well we finally told the MIL and FIL on Thursday.
I had really bad pains Thursday morning and couldn't sleep so went to the Doc's in the afternoon for a check-up (I managed to catch up some sleep in the morning after ringing my boss and apologising for the short notice) all good news, everything totally fine and we got a second scan pic which was nice. :o

But poor OH had been so stressed about it all day he needed to tell his parents so that he had more people to go to for support, it was fine. They were of course overjoyed and cried a lot. I was so tired I was quite relaxed and so wasn't as fussed over as much as I might have been Hmm

DP happy now that they know, two ridiculously happy old people who have been bugging their sons for grandchildren for.... oh only about 20 years!

HoneyMum21 · 02/06/2012 18:25

Hello all. Bit of a random one... We just got an angelsounds doppler (I know it's prob too early to hear anything of bump but we saw it and got excited!). We haven't found any sounds from bump yet but my heartbeat sounds really fast - is it normal for mum's hearbeat to speed up in pregnancy? How much is normal? I'm usually quite healthy and I'm 13 weeks pregnant. Thanks

HoneyMum21 · 02/06/2012 18:30

itsMYnutella my dh's grandmother had been having digs for ages (since he was about 21!) about how some of her friends were already great-grandparents. We ended up finding out we were pregnant about 5 weeks before we were due to get married and her response was 'couldn't you have waited till after the wedding?' we gently reminded her how much she had encouraged it! She was happy really and great grandad couldn't stop crying!

PurplePidjinghamPalace · 02/06/2012 19:26

Honeymum, my gran's the same - i was 12w the day before her 91st birthday a couple of weeks ago and she was absolutely made up!

CODwidow · 02/06/2012 19:37

Honeymum- I posted about this a couple of days ago as mine is currently about 135 when resting which is very high. It does increase but it's also a sign of aneamia and seeing as I've been really tired (even more than the first 12 weeks) I'm going to check with mw at next appt.

HoneyMum21 · 02/06/2012 19:47

Sorry CODwidow I've only had time to skim the past couple of days so I must of missed your post Blush but thanks for your reply. I'm seeing my gp this week anyway so I'll ask him if he thinks it's anything to worry about. I hope yours is nothing to worry about :)

PurplePidjinghamPalace · 02/06/2012 19:51

Does anyone have a deep bone-weary flu type ache in all their joints? 14w and this is as bad as the ms was!!
