Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
minipie · 29/05/2012 14:39

Hi everyone

Good news! Just had my CVS results and we are all clear for Downs, Edwards and Patau. I am sooo relieved. Now I have to figure out how to tell the wider world... especially work, eek!

strawb good luck with your landlord issues, and have fun at coldplay!

spotty I think feta is fine, most of it is pasteurised so just check the label, and it's not mould ripened.

ivana NHS guidance says avoid soft mould ripened cheeses like Brie even if they are made of pasteurised milk, as the listeria can grow in these cheeses after they are made (ie after pasteurisation). Conversely, hard cheeses like Cheddar are ok even if unpasteurised as listeria doesn't really grow in them. And all cheeses are ok if thoroughly cooked.

Great news mini - have had fingers crossed for you. What a relief!

Enjoy telling people - and keep a note of any bonkers reactions you get, so you can come on here and tell us laugh about them later! Grin

lauraloo09 · 29/05/2012 15:06

minipie thats wonderful news so happy for you!!! xxx

itsMYNutella · 29/05/2012 15:08

minipie I'm thrilled for you, many congratulations!!! Gosh I'm sure that's a load of your mind :)

I'm totally confused about what cheese I can eat and I'm off to visit my Mum in France in a couple of weeks. Mind you OH is fiercely protective of the bean I'm growing so I probably don't have a choice when it comes to "should I eat this or not..." So I'll replace my cheese portion with biscuits and chocolates I think ;)

Also because we're going on holiday we might break our seal of silence and tell nearest and dearest next week (no.11).... can't wait for the secrecy to be over; but scan isn't till I'm 11+4 so fingers crossed. :o

Clarella I had to go through the Mumsnet abbreviation list doo dah on more than one occasion to help me follow a conversation!

Clarella · 29/05/2012 15:38

Yeay mini! little dance :)

strawb hope you get sorted - that's what I'd have advised. He really could have made an exception though, we rent my old little house and we have in the past. Any stress seems to be magnified a billion times in preggo.

Cheese - mmmmm! My belly is a little round cheddar and also gets patted and admired by DH though I keep pointing out its not what he thinks it is.

Hot tubs - surely not much diff to a bath in reasonable doses? A sauna might be a diff story. Mind you my capacity for heat( despite often cold) is much reduced, keep having to pop out of yoga whereas usually like it a bit warmer (not hot yoga, but they make it a little warmer)

On that score I'm seriously getting crap at stuff!

(now for my moan)
After being so anxious and depressed (now realise probably also due to skyrocketing thyroid - which is now rapidly coming down yay!) Cos of this slapped cheek stuff and being off for 4 weeks, 2 days, all geared up to go in tomorrow afternoon for baking, for the Thursday jubilee picnic (seriously sad to miss as my gorgeous autistic class are raging royalists and been wearing gb flags ALL DAY since Easter - hilarious) and major training on Friday (read write ink). Just had a phone call to say another case of FECKING SLAPPED CHEEK in my school, and in the only blooming class my kids actually mix with! (talking hugs and kisses if they can, favourite activity: synchronized floor rolling. Aged 10.)

Same class as the suspected cases exactly 4 weeks ago. At least not so panicky now though :) and plans to work off site on schemes, awards etc. (after half term)

Clarella · 29/05/2012 15:43

Ooo is there an abbreviation list?! Need to look!

Clarella · 29/05/2012 15:44

Btw, DH does his nut over herbal teas - is discovered a lovely rosehip and hibiscus at sainsburies but was fiercely banned! (sneak a few)

Queenofsiburbia · 29/05/2012 15:58

I joined a special MN pregnancy & cheese thread as I love cheese and was told that you can't eat any mould ripened cheese even if pasteurised (that was after I ate half a small camembert - whoops) as its still listeria risk and you're 20X more susceptible (? Really ?) when pregnant. Also feta is out can't remember why.

I know this Q will drive anyone with severe MS mad but why does my nausea only relate to winter type veg, roasted meats and sauces? Why not choc or cake or cheese?!

Also driving DH mad as all I want to 'cook' is salad plus chicken or cheese and baguette. Bye bye Sunday lunch!

Queenofsiburbia · 29/05/2012 16:01

BTW, Sorry to sound dim but, I'm guessing 'slapped cheek' is not a result of one over zealous teacher gone on a rampage (you maybe clarella Wink?!) but an illness. WTH is it?

SpottyTeacakes · 29/05/2012 16:18

Hmm NHS website said feta is ok. I'm planning a bacon and feta salad for dinner and I have some feta stuffed chillies Confused

Clarella · 29/05/2012 16:39

Oh god after being so positive I'm now in utter floods of tears about the thyroid stuff again. Even though its getting better now the consultant's doubled the dose the critical period was when it was at its worse and the bloody docs took 2 weeks to tell me to up my dose to what the consultant says wasn't enough anyway. Tried so hard to be on the ball but its obviously buggered beyond what is usual. Was looking forward to going back to work (though nervous about being infected if any kids had the virus) simply cos it stops me thinking about all this crap.

It's a stupid childhood virus, very mild for kids but dangerous to pregnant mums up to 20 weeks if you're not immune. Causes late mc or fetal hydrops, is actually everywhere but chances if infection much higher if you work with kids or your own kid gets it. If exposed its only 25% chance it will affect baby but they can't risk it. Also - can be symptomless in 20% kids and most adults, and, as in this case, take 4 weeks to see the tell tale rash after an incubation of 3 weeks.

Im just so unhappy :(

Clarella · 29/05/2012 16:40

I know I have so much to be happy about but it don't seem to work :(

minipie · 29/05/2012 16:49

Clarella I think I saw your thyroid stats on another thread - from what I saw, your TSH was high but your T4 was ok, is that right? If so then that is good, it's T4 that is most important for health purposes. Docs always look at TSH because that shows how hard your thyroid is working and if TSH is high then T4 is often low. However sometimes TSH can be high with normal T4, which is much less worrying.

Please try not to worry (she says, having been been a ball of nerves for the past 8 weeks few days).

PrunellaDeVille · 29/05/2012 16:55

mini delighted to hear your news, you had us all crossing everything there for a while.

my local nhs don't do the nuchal scan but do 2 blood tests at 12 and 16 weeks instead so i won't know until after that what my risks are, at which point i don't think i could have the cvs test - doesn't that need to be done before a certain number of weeks? (i'm also not going to be able to have the second lot of bloods until 17+5 as i'm on holiday until then) Confused

clarella chin up, focus on the positives

minipie · 29/05/2012 17:01

thanks everyone! feel slightly like crying with the relief! (can't though as I'm in the office)

Prunella I think the cvs can be done until 22 weeks, but once you're past 16 weeks they seem to usually do the amnio instead, maybe that is less risky for that stage of pregnancy? not sure. that's a bit rubbish about the nuchal scan and delayed bloods. any chance of paying for a private nuchal scan?

OP posts:
PrunellaDeVille · 29/05/2012 17:23

mini I think i can pay for a nuchal scan but i'm a bit brassic and am trying to persuade myself that they know what they're doing by adopting this method but your experience is making me waiver.

minipie · 29/05/2012 17:43

Prunella you could look at it the other way, my results were all clear so you could say the nuchal just gave me an unnecessary worry! Also I've been told my high risk result was mostly due to the bloods as my nuchal measurement was nearly normal, so your method would pick that up anyway. If you're short on cash I would go with the NHS option tbh, I am sure they wouldn't use it if it was unreliable.

OP posts:
PrunellaDeVille · 29/05/2012 17:51

thanks minipie, common sense prevails, i shall bide my time and try not to worry about what ifs.

Bellaboo123 · 29/05/2012 18:48

Hi all congrats on all the good news and hope ms is subsiding! Chloe hope things work out ok.
Had my scan today and yay everything is fine - been up since 4am stressing! Had bloods for nuchal apparently if I'm high risk I'll know in a week. My dd is now 11/12 so slightly earlier making me 12 weeks today!
Told my boss who was lovely about it!
Feeling so much better although I don't think it's sunk in yet that in I'm having a baby! Does any one else feel like that?

livismum · 29/05/2012 19:34

Prunella with my first 2 pregnancies we didn't get the combined blood test and scan on the same day, I had the dating scan at 12 weeks (with measurements of everything) then this was combined with blood tests taken at 16 weeks to give u risk factor, so any probs would have been picked up just a bit later, try not to worry they will check everything out (and of course fingerscrossed all will be fine!)

Barbeasty · 29/05/2012 19:43

Minipie, that's brilliant news.

Prunella, we have the same now. It used to be scan plus blood around 12 weeks, but now it's done with blood taken at 12 and 16 weeks. At my booking in the midwife did say you can pay to have a nuchal scan if you want, which gives the results sooner. She did make it clear that by 16 weeks you may well be feeling movement. I guess she was implying that a choice might be harder to make at that point with a positive downs result.

Clarella, how frustrating. Of course, now in 4 weeks someone in your class will get it...

pleasebethismonth · 29/05/2012 20:22

Congratulations on good scan results guys and brilliant news minipie Grin

Sickness finally going away now 14 weeks today!

My dd had slapped cheek last week so I phoned the midwife who suggested I get a blood test today, doctor however said it was a waste of time and midwife knows bugger all! He was so rude made out I was wasting their time and said it was not harmful to preg ladies! Now I don't know what to do!

cashmere · 29/05/2012 21:02

Hello

Mini- really glad everything has turned out okay for you.

I'm in a better mood. Spoke to midwife on Friday who said hospital wouldn't see me till after the 10th June and I'm away on holiday then. Someone lost my referral. Therefore, on Saturday we paid £100 for a private Nuchal. Baby in wrong position so scan took 25 minutes which was good! All fine, also gave odds for Edwards and Pateau (which was 1 in 90000!)

Due date moved from 11th to 2nd! So was 12,6 weeks.

Anyway hospital rang today and have squeezed me in this Thursday.
I'm going to go as need bloods taking as well and will be 13,4 so time ticking on. Unfortunately DH can't get time off so I'm a little sad to go alone. At least he saw the baby on Saturday though.

cashmere · 29/05/2012 21:04

Ps if anyone is on a pc can you update my due date to 2nd December?
Thanks

Barbeasty · 29/05/2012 21:31

Pleasebethismonth: look at the links below and take them to the GP!

Maybe ask for an appointment with another GP if you can, or complain to the practice manager. Whilst I expect everything's fine, the risk is there. Technically it isn't you that's at risk, but you should be tested!

The last link is to where you can download the Health Protection Agency guidelines for dealing with rashes in pregnancy. According to the BBC article the HPA say pregnant women coming into contact with slap cheek should be tested immediately due to the risks. I can't download it on my phone to read and check though.

I'm sure Clarella can tell you more!
