Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

darcy - sorry! I just gave a really confusing answer about due dates which you hadn't asked about! Blush. Anyway, as I was wittering on, all my scan stuff was in the letter she stapled in to the notes

Im 22 and still will be when this one comes along which was always my plan.
But nearly all my mum friends are in their late 20s/ early 30s because I get on with them much better than mums my own age.

Chunkychicken · 17/05/2012 19:35

I haven't even got my notes yet!! Get them at my 16wk appt apparently, but have got the sonographers report.

Age is just a number DH Grin I left the group though, as I thought it was easier

daisychain76 · 17/05/2012 19:51

Hi Swiss and Darcy and welcome back shiny

I have a bit of the age thing going on from my mother (who had me and my brother in her 20s) - she seems to put every symptom I have down to the fact "you are that bit older now" grrr! (I'm 36 so not totally ancient!) I must say, it does scare me a bit when I think of DH being 60 when this baby is 20, but I know there are lots of positives to being a bit older too. I would say the majority of mums are the same age as me and older at DCs school.

Don't know if all Aldi's sell the same, but mine has got some good baby stuff in atm - got muslims, tommy tippee free flow cups and those towels with hoods on (can't think of the name) there today. There were also some nice, neutral vests and body suits, but I restrained myself as November still seems a long way off.

Feeling very virtuous today - made a homemade quiche and jam tart, emptied the dishwasher and walked the DCs home from school. Don't feel glowing tho - just completely knackered now!

Passmethecrisps · 17/05/2012 19:55

Hi to all the lovey newcomers! I am always on my phone which makes it really hard to go back and pick out people's names and welcome them personally.

When I had my scan I had to wiggle my hips from side to side and the midwife prodded me. Still would tip sausage onto his back so no NT for us. We had two screens as well. One for her and one for us. Wish I could have another one :(

Does anyone else have a sinusitis type thing? I might just have an infection but I always presume it is pregnant related. Sore back? Pregnancy. Bunged up nose? Pregnancy. Sore neck? Pregnancy.

SwissArmyWife · 17/05/2012 20:10

Sore back and neck over here! :( No bunged up nose though, although had a horrible cold earlier on in the pregnancy. Hope you get better soon Passme :)

Daisychain well done for today Grin all i've done is hung out the washing, done the dusting in the living room only (felt like I needed a sit down afterwards Grin) and cooked tea. Obviously I've been looking after DD aswell, who now strokes my tummy when I point to it and say "awwww" which I think is very sweet!

Little9 · 17/05/2012 21:17

Bunged up/runny nose thing going on here! Had a major cold when I first got pregnant and haven't seemed to stop coughing since then. It's much better now but getting on my nerves. Think some if it is hayfever now though!

Welcome Swiss and anyone else my poor pregnancy brain has forgotten about.

Chunky - I hate opinionated people who think that only their view is correct! I don't mind people putting their view across as long as they don't criticise you for having a different one. Everyone is different and has different circumstances, so having kids early may suit some people (like my best friend) whilst leaving it a while may suit others (like me at 38).

I made a bad move last night and weighed myself. I've put on a stone already!!! What's that about not putting any weight on in the first trimester??? I'm probably going to put another one on over the next few weeks as holiday is all inclusive. This does not bode well! No wonder my DH calls me a pot belly pig. Blush

ItalaItala · 17/05/2012 21:48

Helllo

chunky I agree totally with what Little9 said. I didn't start my family until I was in my 30s and like others said it would have been a disaster if I had children in my 20s.

I have a runny nose/ sore throat but I know it is just a cold and nothing to do with pg as DD2 has it too. I also have mouth ulcers and not just a couple: 14 it is agony I can't eat anything, just some soup. Sad

I am getting breathless too - sometimes I just huff and puff going from the living room to the kitchen but then other days I walk to/from preschool (1mile away & we live on a very steep hill) and feel all energised Confused

Little9 · 17/05/2012 21:55

Ooo, Italia. That sounds painful with a capital P. Hope your mouth recovers soon. :)

WaitingForMe · 17/05/2012 21:58

Crikey I'd have been a terrible mother in my early twenties. My first husband was abusive and used to trigger my OCD deliberately. It was DH who made me get help by making it a condition of us being together. I'm so much calmer and in control. Sure there are increased risks from your late 30s but so too if you were the kind of twenty something to dance on tables and drink tequila!

I'm struggling with my energy but find exercise helps my backache. So lots of walking and gardening for me. I think part of the reason I've not put much weight on is that my stomach feels squashed. I can only eat small portions.

StuntNun · 17/05/2012 22:37

Ouch Itala is there anything you can use for that in pregnancy? Corsodyl or Bonjela or mouth ulcer pastilles?

OP posts:
ItalaItala · 17/05/2012 22:53

My first port of call was DD's bonjela (as it was to hand as DD2 has been teething last wkend) but is says not suitable for use during pg or when bfing in big letters on the tube. AND everywhere round here has run out of corsodyl Grrrr.... At the mo I am rinsing my mouth with salt water, made quite strong it does hurt but i think they are getting a bit better.

Cacacaz · 17/05/2012 23:02

Welcome newbies Grin

Itala that sounds incredibly painful, one ulcer is bad enough Sad

I have been unwell for the last couple of weeks. I had what I thought was a cold, then I put it down to pregnancy stuffiness. It turns out I have sinusitis, although it seems to be finally shifting with the help of a steroid nasal spray. I am coughing like I have a 60 a day habit and have pounding headaches. So I'm generally feeling very sorry for myself and über emotional, ended up in tears when dh said he was going to sleep in the spare room tonight Blush

I'm 29, but turn 30 5 days after my edd, there is absolutely no way I was ready for children before now. I think we as a couple needed to have time by ourselves to do all the spontaneous activities and foreign holidays, that aren't possible with children. We, as a couple, took time to discuss becoming parents, we both knew it was something we wanted eventually. My mother had 3 children under 3 by the tone she was 27, there is absolutely no way I would have been emotionally mature enough to cope with the responsibility before now.

SwissArmyWife · 18/05/2012 06:57

Hope those of you that are ill get better soon :) -Distributes honey and lemon, and chocolate- Wink

As for the whole age thing, I absolutely adore being a mum (and quite proud of myself for the little things, like the fact my daughter prefers fruit and veg over chips any day and is a very sociable, friendly little girl) and wouldn't change it for the world, and i'm lucky in the respect that my partner (25) just wants to settle down and have a little family. He's fantastic with DD and will be fantastic with the new arrival.
Neither of us like to get drunk and don't feel the need to live like that, (been there, done that, got the t-shirt and the hangovers) because we're happy settling down :)

It is different for everyone, although it's a shame a lot of people who aren't ready to have children do it anyway :(

Chunkychicken · 18/05/2012 07:04

I've had a headache since yesterday afternoon and woken up with a heavy weight on my nose/eyebrows and a sniff. I think I have a cold :(

And thanks everyone for the age comments. As I said, I've left that group now and some like-minded prehistoric mums (like myself apparently) are likely to form our own group/get closer, so its no bad thing. The most annoying thing about is that my own personal foible/fault is I hate not being heard/listened to (hell as a teacher!! :) ) especially when I've tried to explain my POV rationally and carefully, using simple facts to support it. To then be accused of being selfish and old when you're having #2 at 32 really irked me. I didn't 'choose' to wait until I was 30 as such, I chose to wait until I was married. That was my choice, right for me, but I wasn't trying to imply others, who make different choices were wrong, yet they were implying it was wrong to wait... grr. Never mind, over and done with now!!! Time to move on.

This weekend should be fun not. Travelling up north with a 2yo and a cold starting, with ms and a pg bladder. Nice Grin

ValiumQueen · 18/05/2012 07:10

I would get stoned then - 43 and pg with no3!

SwissArmyWife · 18/05/2012 07:59

Chunky - Sounds like a very fun weekend ahead of you Wink

Today i'm getting my DD a new pushchair, which i'm quite excited about, and I get a day of help she gets to see her granny too Grin

I've suddenly developed this massive worry about the baby though, I had started feeling movements, admittedly only occasionally but haven't felt anything for a couple of days now :( I keep trying to tell myself it's too early to go by the movements and that it's ok, but still can't help worrying. -sob-

horseylady · 18/05/2012 08:56

I feel awful too actually assumed it was hayfever as my mum got it really bad when she was pregnant. Maybe in just run down?

With regards to age, different people go through life in different ways, with different morals and different outlooks. It's what makes life, life. Don't worry about what other people say, just do the best you can and enjoy yourself :)

Right, back to work!!

eversomuch · 18/05/2012 10:01

Sorry to hear there are lots of colds and aches and pains going around. I had a headache most of last evening and throughout the night, but am feeling a bit better today. Hope everyone else is soon on the mend.

Still feeling queasy and tired but much less so than even a week ago. Have skipped my afternoon nap (a luxury, I know!) the past several days and still made it until 10pm. Really am starting to feel that my energy is coming back and I'm starting to eat a bit more normally. I am soooo grateful to finally be reaching this point. Hope it lasts!

swissarmy I was sure I was feeling movements around 11 or 12 weeks, which seemed so early to me. I still get the fluttering occasionally, but not that much. The babies are still so tiny, so it's probably nothing to worry about if yours has gotten a little quiet. But maybe call your MW if it will put your mind at ease?!

Re: age, I used to think I wanted to have my kids around age 30, but DH wasn't so keen and for a long time, it looked like we weren't ever going to have any. That obviously eventually changed, and we're both happy for that. I was 38 when DD was born and will be 40 when DS arrives. Part of me wishes we'd had them sooner so we'll be around longer to enjoy them and see how they grow up (getting teary now!), but I do think I'm a MUCH better parent now than I would have been eight or ten years ago, and I've done things I wouldn't have been able to had we had kids earlier. So overall, I'm not too worried about being a prehistoric mum. Most people don't believe me when I tell them my age anyway, so that sort of helps now that I'm at the age where I appreciate it. :)

Hope you all have lovely weekends!

SwissArmyWife · 18/05/2012 11:27

eversomuch - I know what you mean, I was just so certain I could feel it (i'm 15weeks today) as it's my second and they say you're likely to feel them sooner :) I'm seeing my midwife soon (I think) anyway so will talk to her then. The 20 week scan can't come fast enough imo!

applepieinthesky · 18/05/2012 12:27

It's our last day in Devon today before heading home tomorrow morning. It has been a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable break. Lots of nice walks with the dog on the beach and lounging around not doing a lot.

Bought a couple of books - Pregnancy week by week and a baby name book which we have been trawling through. Think we are settled on a boys name and a girls name Smile Just looking for middle names now. It is a miracle we have found two names we agree on so I don't hold out much hope we will agree on middle names as well. But DP isn't bothered about middle names - he doesn't have one himself, so he is quite happy for me to choose.

I will be 25 when baby is born which I think is a great age. I'm not a teenager anymore, I have lived a little but will still be quite a young mum. I have been broody since I have been with DP which is 9 years now so I don't think I could ever have held out until I was 30.

We got some travel brochures when we went shopping yesterday and are planning on going to Spain or Portugal next year with the baby. It's a short flight and we have decided we definitely need some sunshine next year. So exciting to think we will have a 6 month old baby with us! We will be booking soon so that we can pay the majority of it off before I go on mat leave. Will also be going all inclusive to cut down on the amount of spending money we will need.

TheDetective · 18/05/2012 12:56

Had my 16 week appointment this morning, and yet again, can't pick up the heartbeat.

Gaaaaaah!

Other than that, went well, and the midwife is still very enthusiastic about my home birth!! Yippeeeee! Just hope it stays that way! As my appointment was last, we had a good old chat, and whinge about various midwifery related things. So that was nice!

Off to work myself now. After all, some one has to pay for the damage DP caused to someone elses car this morning at the school (in the car park that he shouldn't have been in no less!). Grrrrr. Flippin' men.

Oh, I too have an annoying cough. I think i've had it a good few weeks now. Not sure. It just comes from time to time?!

Iheartpasties · 18/05/2012 13:09

Hi everyone,

I have had an exhausting day, I went to a big baby and toddler expo! That was a first for me, I wouldnt have been that bothered about going but my friend wanted to go so I went along. It was nice to hang out with her all day :) I am happy because I saw a pram I would like. Another mum was pushing it around! So now I think I know that I want the steelcraft strider plus 4. I will watch out on ebay for a good one. It's a double pram so thats great.

I also bought three bras. I'm happy about that. I was only moaning this week about how uncomfy mine are at the moment, and how un-flattering they are. I think maternity bras can be pretty bad for your boob shape! Anyway fingers crossed I get on with these new ones. I always think I have found something new and great and sometimes it doesn't seem to work out like that, so we'll see.

I got a few freebies, but I'm not too sure what! I had so many bags by the end of the day and I need to go through them and see what I have got!

I have never seen so many prams and mums in one place before!!

Nice to see some more newbies on this thread, and to hear everyones news.

I am hoping for a nice relaxing weekend, but we'll see how we go!

Thechick · 18/05/2012 14:15

Welcome to the newbies. Hope you enjoy the list.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with the flutters that have gone away. I do have to keep reminding myself that it prob was only gas, or its changed position rather than anything else. Im not even 14 weeks yet so it is very early in the day. I don't get to see my midwife until I'm 17 weeks and my 20 week scan is at 22 weeks. Thats both ages away.
