I'm just up after a four-hour nap which seems somewhat excessive. I've been sleeping normally, 7-8 hours a night, and I had an hour's nap yesterday afternoon so four hours seems like my day is over already. Very strange. I wonder what bubba is up to in there to sap my energy like that?

GTBaby I'm seeing a physiotherapist for my pain in the bum (the sciatica not the DH) and he seems pretty confident that he can resolve it and prevent it developing into PGP. He used ultrasound on one of my hips to reduce the bursitis and it was soooo comfy sleeping that night. He also gave me some advice on posture and some exercises to do and he's going to give me some more difficult exercises next week plus assess me for a maternity belt. I hope you get a referral quickly. My GP said I should probably go privately at first until the NHS referral goes through but my work will pay for the first four appointments (it's an American company) so that's no problem. The NHS appointment better come through soon though FC. Good luck with getting it sorted.

ValiumQueen now it all makes sense! I was thinking how well I had been sleeping when in the last two pregnancies I was uncomfortable from very early on, particularly when lying on my side, but I have a new bed with a memory foam layer on the top. Genius idea. I recommend them too. I have been sleeping on my tummy so they must really work because it's distinctly rounded now Grin

I have had chiro, sports massages, osteopath all paid for myself. Was referred to nhs Physio after a very bad episode in summer, got appointment in feb! Unfortunately missed an appointment due to morning sickness, so now have to go thro the refferal process again! Hoping going thro midwife might make it quicker?

I go thro long periods of ok back. Then I have two weeks of agony where I can't stand straight/ sit/ well can't do much.

Hope you're all well. My husband has very kindly booked us a mini babymoon in my favourite city Bangkok! I will be 16 weeks then hope all will be ok. As they have excellent medical facilities over there and the Pound conversion rate is so good it'll afford me to have a private scan for a whole lot less than what it costs here.

Now the question? Should I get a 4d done at 16 weeks? Or 17 if we get it done the day before we leave. Will I see much? If not don't want to waste money. It will be about £80. This is my first baby so am clueless, opinions please.

Onamission28 · 13/05/2012 15:32

Oh and valium and Stunt I have a memory foam mattress and haven't had to get any additional pillows to make me comfy as opposed to my sil with a conventional mattress who is due 15 days before me. So maybe there is something in your theory! :)

blonderthanred · 13/05/2012 16:01

Interesting about the memory foam, we've had our mattress for ten years and really need a replacement, but I've never been convinced about the memory foam - what if it remembers one position and then you want to turn over? Both Dh and I are nighttime tossers iyswim!

Passmethecrisps · 13/05/2012 16:22

Same day as me onamission

Not sure about scans - I reckon 16 weeks will be okay but I you can wait then I would.

All this mattress chat is very interesting. I mentioned to OH how painful my back was and that a topper might be the answer. We started taking a look at our current mattress and suddenly it all becomes clear! The entire spring system is broken - it is at least 2 inches lower than when we got it. It's no wonder we are having sleepless nights with aches and pains. Lying in it now and can feel my muscles complaining. New mattress it is then!

Issue is that OH always likes to go for the best possible but with mattresses that is a touch beyond our budget! We NEED a new one now so I will need to persuade him to go for a mid-range one for the medium term. Will look into the memory foam ones - sounds great.

Onamission28 · 13/05/2012 16:30

PASSME we got ours at costco, was £180, i think it is more on the high street but let me tell you it is amazing. It does heat up like all foam mattresses but nothing hubby and I couldn't cope with by changing to a summer tog duvet all year round.

Relatives have recently done up their house and have tried their £900 mattresses but always prefer mine. My husband has a bad back and could never sleep right on our old poorly sprung mattress but this £180 one is a winner.

I would have a look. Ours is a silentnight matressnoe 7 zone jobbie.

Little9 · 13/05/2012 16:50

Gutted. Went into the back of someone today whilst driving my new car. Not even had it 3 days and I've trashed it already. Not a happy bunny. Got myself checked out at A and E and think all ok with bubs, but car looks a bit terminal. Bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger!!.

StuntNun · 13/05/2012 17:12

Oh no Little9 I hope you and bubba are both fine. Sometimes you get sore a day or two after so watch out for your neck and back.

Blonder I have a SilentNight sprung mattress which has a memory foam layer at the top, rather than a memory foam mattress. It was pretty expensive, £500 from BHS, but DH was having really bad back issues as a result of trying to push start a car by himself so I thought it was a good investment at the time. Certainly it's very comfy - his back problems have now resolved and I'm sleeping well. My DS2 loves to sleep in it as well, he's always sneaking into the middle! But his bed is rock hard the poor little mite.

ValiumQueen · 13/05/2012 17:23

Stuntnun my topper is more comfy than the mega expensive mattress my parents bought. I am considering buying one for my 5yo and 2yo, but may be a bit excessive - I wish they would sleep past 5.30am!

Elizadoesdolittle · 13/05/2012 18:13

Hi ladies, got back from Portugal last night. Had a fabulous time and didn't want to come home. At least it's not raining here at the moment. Don't think that's going to last though!

Have a lot to catch up on on this thread. Have to say I'm quite surprised to see the same thread is still in use though! Glad to see lots of happy scan news.

little9 sorry about your car, but thank goodness you and baby are ok. That's the main thing. Since I've had my new car I've had 2 prangs in it. I had my previous car 10yrs and never so much as a scratch on it. It is very annoying and I feel your pain.

I seem to have grown a huge bump. Am only 14weeks and feel it won't be long before I'm reaching for my maternity jeans. Not sure how much I can blame the baby yet though, might be more to do with all the over indulging I did on holiday Grin

ValiumQueen · 13/05/2012 18:51

Sympathies Little9 Sorry I missed your post.

Our topper was just over £100 from QVC 5 years ago and as good as new. Bought a mid range mattress from Ikea, which is also fine. Because of the cell structure it does not absorb fluids, and has been wee'd on by all 4 of us at one time or another Blush No hint of a stain or odour.

Chunkychicken · 13/05/2012 19:20

Little9 that's really rubbish, sorry. We had our new car maybe a day & scrapped it against the gate post reversing in. It's gutting. Equally, at least you & baby are fine.

Little9 · 13/05/2012 19:38

Thanks, ladies. Think it's probably the hormones, but can't stop crying about it. I've had old bangers before and never had a scrape. Then when I finally get a decent new (ish) one, I go and trash it. Need Wine but will have to make do with chocolate! :(

Passmethecrisps · 13/05/2012 19:41

Oh no little9 that sounds dreadful! Take it easy over the next couple of days just to be sure you are fully recovered.

Great tips on the mattress purchasing - thanks all! Might try Costco. Bed is a king size so Ikea don't do one to fit sadly. I remember buying the bed about 7 years ago and it seemed such a lot of money. I think we forget that things age!

Did some housework and baked muffins today - feels great to have even a bit more energy.

Have been having sinus pain which is irritating. However, I have discovered that milky sweet tea does a great job of shifting a headache.

OH cooked a lovely roast linner - only a bit sad I couldn't have some red wine

nutellaontoast · 13/05/2012 20:17

Oh no little9 how gutting Sad - take it easy.

I lurve our memory foam topper. It quite deep. The mattress underneath is really quite hard, but the topper makes our bed very comfy. It does mould to your shape, but it springs right back too, it doesn't sort of compress permanently IYSWIM.

ValiumQueen · 13/05/2012 20:38

Passme our bed is a superking from ikea. Surely they do kingsize still?

It is (short term) memory foam. I have never been disturbed by a previous indent, but there is a slight ridge in the middle as we like to keep to our own sides most of the time. None of this falling asleep entwined crap here. The kids love our bed and come in one by one in the morning. Just as well it is a kingsize to fit the next one in as well.

Passmethecrisps · 13/05/2012 21:38

Weirdly valium they don't do a kingsize. They do single, double and possibly super king but alas no king

WaitingForMe · 13/05/2012 23:12

I've had the odd glass if wine Passmethecrisps. MW said it was fine and they do on the continent.

This afternoon DH hung a print we got framed for the nursery. My late father bought it on a family holiday 14 years ago and it just hit me my child will never know his/her Grandad. I was fine on both wedding days but this has just devastated me. He's been dead nine years and while I get sad now and then, I haven't felt like this for years Sad

DHs stepdad is ace (his biological father is a waste of space) so baby will have a proper Grandad but knowing that isn't really helping.

GTbaby · 14/05/2012 09:10

Oh dear. Just turned up at MW appointment an hour early! Misread the time Sad lucky she saw us anyway. Otherwise I'd have to sit there an hour n DH would have been v annoyed. All ok. But forgot to weigh myself and my scales at home are broken.

Iheartpasties · 14/05/2012 09:17

WaitingForMe that is sad. I hope you feel a bit better soon, I'm sure pregnancy hormones don't help as they make everything seem more emotional. But of course you will feel sad about not having your dad.

little9 sorry about your car, but just focus on the fact you were not hurt and that your little baby is ok too.

We have just bought a new (to us) car, we pick it up tomorrow. I wont get to drive it until we get our car seat though! It is ordered but it has got to get here from the USA. We have gone for an extended rear facing car seat after reading about how they are safer.

My neighbour was saying to me 'not long until your next scan then', and when you think about it, it's really not that long! eek! exciting!

I must phone the hospital tomorrow and get a midwife appointment, haven't seen one yet. whoops.

ditsygem · 14/05/2012 09:32

Oh no little9 I am sorry to hear about your car, but glad you and baby are ok - that's the main thing.

I thought we were all meant to be feeling better now we are past 12 weeks? I am 14+1 and last week I was telling everyone how much better my MS was, only to get really ill on the tube on friday night worse then I have been for ages, and then on the tube into work this morning I felt sick and tired and then suddenly got really really hot and started getting cold sweats and everything went blurred and my hands were tingly like pins and needles and I really thought I was going to faint. Luckily my DH was with me and got me off at the next station to sit down and sip water for a while, but it was really scary. Reading on the net it sounds quite normal due to lower blood pressure etc, has any one else had fainting or dizzyness?

Iheartpasties · 14/05/2012 09:39

ditsygem yes i had similar in my last pregnancy, I think you just have to try and sit or lie down if you feel faint so that the moment passes.
