Oh ffnorm what a shock that must have been. I'm glad all seems to be ok and baby is moving well. Take it easy now!

AmethystMoon · 11/05/2012 22:10

ffnorm oh how scary for you Sad falling on my bump is a big fear of mine. I am so glad your LO is wriggling around. I hope you can relax a bit over the weekend after your fright x

blondiedollface · 11/05/2012 22:10

I live in Bristol!!

Rhi If the trip is long enough that you need an overnight stay, you are more than welcome to stay with us (if you wouldn't feel too weird about it ofc), we have more than enough room. Or even just lifts to and from the station to save you taxi fare :)

McKayz I can feel a Bristol meet up coming in August at the fiesta! We go every year, it's just so lovely, and my cousin is a pilot with Bailey Balloons!

Kveta I applaud you on your drunken escapades aboard the SS Great Britain Grin top marks for your ASBO ;)

Warlin Enjoy having your hair done and 3 hours of total relaxation to kick off your weekend! Put your feet up and chill :)

Gwennie Glad you get to skip the open day, must be such a relief!

Amethyst Fingers crossed that you get the birthing centre, and that your dizziness subsides..

Mamma Glad someone else has been and they were good! I'm going to the mums only ones, but looking forward to them immensely!

More contractions today, cervix thinned but closed and mucus plug still intact (9 months ago I would never have dreamed I could say those words with a straight face) so hoping it stays that way for a bit longer... TMI so apologies in advance, but the pressure was getting so intense down there when I was in the bath I had a bit of a feel and I can feel LO's head through whatever bit of flesh that so happens to be, which is mighty weird!!

Hope all is good with everyone and you all have a lovely weekend! Xx

blondiedollface · 11/05/2012 22:14

X-post ffnorm hope you are ok, take it easy and so glad LO is wriggling away for you!

Xx

DairyNips · 11/05/2012 22:17

Blondie Wow, that must be exciting to be able to feel baby's head! I'm too much of a wimp to checkGrin I'm betting you'll be the next June mummy to pop but let's hope lo cooks a little longerSmile

McKayz · 11/05/2012 22:17

Blondie that would be fab!! PILs live in Portishead so we are down there a few times a year. I've always wanted to go to see the balloons but it was always too far from Norfolk when we lived there and now from Yorkshire. But we have a reason now.

I hope BabyBlondie stays put for a while yet!!

Ffnorm hope all is ok. Sounds very scary. Lots of rest for you. X

blondiedollface · 11/05/2012 22:33

Dairy DH is being a complete wimp about it and saying it's weird - I then reminded him that she'll have to come out of somewhere and that there is optimal and he just grimaced silly boy I told my mum and she just squealed with delight about how awesome it is that I've touched her grandchild's head, she is beyond excited (although simultaneously horrified at becoming a grandmother at 44!) and has turned her spare room into a mini nursery with a travel cot and change station at wheelchair height so she can help out at weekends :)

McKayz It's a date! We're the other side of Bristol from Portishead, but I have been to the Balloon Fiesta every year since I can remember, it's just such a fun atmosphere and so great to catch the early morning flights and/or the glow where all the balloons are tethered and light up in time to music!

My family have ACTUALLY started making bets on dates... I hope she waits until June but once we hit the 1st June any time would be fine.. My dad is away in Indianapolis watching the Indy 500 (so v jealous) from the 21st until the 31st May and I'd hate for him to not be in the country when his first grandchild is born! But yes, I think even I'd bet on myself being next!!

McKayz · 11/05/2012 22:38

Yay!! I'm very much looking forward to seeing you.

I also am happy for baby to arrive from the 1st June onwards. But she's blooming awkward so I imagine it'll be July.

I'd put money on you being next.

PinkPanther27 · 11/05/2012 22:39

Hello all, Im gonna find it really ahrd to keep up with you all! Just returned from a meal and cinema trip with my friend - htought i better get a couple of nights out in before the big event!

Congratulations to Dr. Ceej! Hope you've got some non-alcoholic bubbly to celebrate with :-)
Sounds like we're all very close to the big event with our ailments. My heartburn has eased off so Im guessing she's moved down a bit. I've also started using about 5 pillows and an extra duvet under me in bed (and amazingly still not taking up any of dh's space) and its really helping my SPD and elephant feet. I've also been given some wrist splints to wear at night as I ahve started suffering from pins and needles and complete numbeness in both hands ALL night!

Warlin - my bump has been hurting loads too. When I got home this evening I started getting a sharp ligament pain as I was driving and had to sit in my car outside our house ofr about 5 mins cos I couldnt move cos of the pain. Luckily dh heard me pull up and came out to see what I was doing, was worried that my neighbours might think I'd gone into labour! Just be careful how you turn and lay in bed etc - try getting out by keeping your knees together and rolling onto your side (if you're not doing so already)

MammaintheMaking/Amethyst/Gwennie hats off to you for continuing to work - hope the time goes quickly for you all

Smallwonder are you having any more blood etsts doen to see what your iron levels are? im thinking of asking for one at my next midwife appt to see if Im still anaemic. I spoke to nutritionist who recommended organic barley grass powder to me for its iron and vit c content - has anyone used this?

ffnorm big hugs to you after what must have been a v distressing afternoon. Hope you're resting up and v glad your baby's ok. Hope your ds is more careful in the future. My little man pushed past me on the stairs yesterday and got out of my grip and managed to fall halfway down and land on his head, its horrible. He got checked by the Dr and is ok thank goodness. Our little ones are very tough though.

Rhi I hope your scans goes well and I think you should take up one of the lovely offers from the others on here, its a long journey at this stage of pregnancy.

Blondie really? Have you told the midwife you can feel the head? That's kinda wierd and amazing at the same time lol Dont prod her too much though or she might get curious and wanna come out :0

Well I've still got really bad ligament and back pain so I'm off to bed soon. Night all

DairyNips · 11/05/2012 22:53

blondie that's lovely your mum is so excited. Lol at your dh, it soon won't be a mystery where the baby comes from anymoreWink I'm sure he'll deal with it just found once he's in the thick of it so to speak! I'm surprised my dh can still did me attractive after swing the 'business end' during two labours. I didn't even look down when baby was coming out. I'm not really prudish at all so don't know why, but busy at the time I guessGrin

McKayz · 12/05/2012 07:48

Blondie my Mum was 44 when I had DS1. She was telling everyone she was too young to be a Nanny Grin. My Nan was even more annoyed though. I had DS1, my uncle was 40, I was 21, my other uncle was 30 and my brother turn 18. I think it was my grandparents 45th wedding anniversary too. She was not impressed!!

ffnorm · 12/05/2012 08:08

Morning all

Thanks for your thoughts - feeling a bit stiff and bruised this morning (and still a bit emotional) will try take it easy this weekend but unfortunately DH has to work :(

McK and Blondie - my family is on the other end of the spectrum - when I had DS,I was 33,my dad 68 and my Gran 102.

ffnorm · 12/05/2012 08:09

and at 102 it was her 1st grandchild...

ffnorm · 12/05/2012 08:10

sorry great grandchild (my father's 1st grandchild)

McKayz · 12/05/2012 08:27

DH's parents are in their 60's. It amuses me occasionally that they aren't much younger than my Nan. He's 12 years younger than his brother too.

blondiedollface · 12/05/2012 11:30

My Grandma is 66 - not sure I'd like to be a Great-Grandma at that age! But my dad is actually 57, and my Grandma on his side died this March aged 90. So my parents are quite a bit different... DH's parents are both late fifties and all his DGP are in their 80's...

I find it fascinating how generations change and differ from family to family!

McKayz How coincidental! Must be a good age to become a Grandma :) Although LO is due on my mum's birthday, so she might actually be 45.. I was due on my Grandma's birthday (missed it by a week) and my mum was born on her Grandma's birthday so it's a popular date in our family!! And I always found it funny as a child that my dad was closer in age to my Grandma than my mum, 12 years one way, 9 the other!

Ffnorm My dad's parents were 74 and 68 when I was born, they were the loveliest I could have asked for and as a very small child I loved their stories of how things used to be!

Off to test drive some Toyota Yaris' and Kia Picanto's now! Taking our pram and car-seat just to make sure they fit (not sure if that's a bit weird with bump in tow?) and hopefully by the end of the day have some idea of which car we'll be getting Grin

Have a lovely day and hope it's as sunny where you are!

McKayz · 12/05/2012 11:47

Blondie My LO is due the day before my Mums birthday Grin I think my Nan must have been about 68 when DS1 was born. DH's Nan is 80 on 17th June and I think that would be a cool day for me to have this baby.

ChateauMargot · 12/05/2012 12:37

Right, slightly silly question for you ladies (especially those who have done this before!)

I've just purchased a nursing tank-top. Basically, a white tank with detatchable straps and an in-built sports bra type thing... only with great holes cut out in the bra part.

My question is, does one wear a nursing bra under this, too? In the event of leaking nipples, there's no bra between boob and tank top... so, is this where breast pads come in? How the heck is this supposed to work??

McKayz · 12/05/2012 12:43

I did wear a bra under it once and it was a right pain to undo the bra and then the top too. So then went to not wearing a bra. I never leaked too much but would usually wear another top over the tank top. But DS2 was born in December so no worries about it being warm.

ffnorm · 12/05/2012 13:08

Chateau personally I would wear a bra (esp as it is going to be really warm and that is all you'll be able to wear Grin) if you are leaky then you don't want to have a breast pad escaping incident...and I always felt to me that my breasts looked a funny shape due to pushing through those holes IYSWIM.As McK say the bra and top make it all a bit of a fiddle I think some of the so called breast feeding clothes were not designed by a breast feeder

rhibutterfly · 12/05/2012 15:07

wonder and blondie thank you so much for the offers can't believe how nice that is haven't had RL friends offering to be that generous, but thank god for family, my one sister is taking the day off work to drive me and my other sister is lending her car so i think we're sorted :)
blondie that must be so great, i have short arms don't think i could feel that far down
fform what a shock, i hope your doing ok now and Lo is bouncing around.
kveta poor you, not even drunk enough to take away the pain of the broken wrist
sorry if i've missed anyone, thank you for the support all.

rhibutterfly · 12/05/2012 15:16

My sister made my mum a gran at 37 and i'm going to have dd2 just before i turn 36 makes me feel old

crackersncheese · 12/05/2012 16:34

Afternoon ladies, hope you're all managing a little bit of relaxation this weekend.

Probably a silly question but to save me complaining and looking silly. I've just had an ebay bargain tens machine delivered which was sold as being a maternity package for childbirth and labour. when I've had a look at the instructions it says that the safety of the machine during childbirth and labour has not been established. Do they all say that or does it need sending back? 5 packages to pick up from the post office this morning, think the online shopping obsession is getting a bit silly.

DairyNips · 12/05/2012 16:52

Afternoon ladiesSmile

Ds1 has a temp so not done much today apart from pop to Tesco for a few bits Bd got mils birthday presents (her birthday tomorrow). Bit worried about mil as she's been feeling ill for a while, she went to drs (something she hardly ever does as has a phobia of blood tests) and they said she has bilirubin in her urine, she has to go back for blood tests on mon. Not sure exactly what this means but the dr mentioned her liver and she keeps looking a bit yellow and getting itchy and nauseousSad Hope it's not serious.

crackers I know that you have to use specific tens machines in labour. There are normal tens machines you can't use then there are ones designed for labour so maybe question the one you bought? Not sure exactly what the difference is between them thoughHmm

ChateauMargot · 12/05/2012 17:05

McKayz That's what I was thinking - probably best to wear it under something else, and then not worry about the bra.

ffnorm, will use a bra if it's just the tank on its own. Totally agree that one's boob shape must be pretty odd if there's nothing to support them through the holes!
