Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ChateauMargot · 08/05/2012 12:55

Btw, has anyone else heard the advice to cut out wheat and dairy from 34 weeks? Something to do with those things contributing to a thickening of the cervix (so, if you cut them out it helps the cervix to thin in preparation for birth, and therefore a shorter, more comfortable labour). A couple of women in my preggy yoga class have been doing this, but I've not been able to find any substantial info online...

??

McKayz · 08/05/2012 13:01

Chateau No I have never heard that at all.

Ceej I hope it goes well but I am stupid and have no idea what a viva is except for a music channel. (spot the un educated June Mum)

Kveta Yes I think we should have a list of the people that are regular posters. I was trying to work out who was due first and I think it is you out of the regular posters.

Kveta · 08/05/2012 13:15

Chateau may I be profane, and say FUCK THAT, I am not cutting out wheat and dairy! Shock can you imagine?! no toast! no chocolate! NO ICE CREAM!!!!!!

McKayz a viva is an exam ('viva voce'), generally at the end of a PhD - hopefully ceeej won't see this before going in, but mine was 4 hours of hell - 4 hours of questions that were in no way connected to my work, from a little man who was very pleased with himself. No fun. I did not enjoy mine :o

ok, stats list then? just copy and paste with your own stats :)

Lol, Kveta! I know - I'm addicted to toast, cheese and yogurt, so it's not a diet likely to appeal to me at the best of times. If there was evidence to support the theory, I guess I'd be willing to try it for a few weeks - anything for an easy labour! - but unless someone's able to show me some proof, I'll be quite content to continue as normal...

Hi everyone

I've just had a marathon catch up with everyone's posts. Such sad news from Greengoose, I am sure we are all thinking of her and her family, sending you strength if you're reading this Greengoose x

Bemy sorry to hear about your flat, but your seem to have just the right attitude to it all, good luck with getting it all sorted out.

Blondie thank you for the link - as a first timer, all information is very welcome :)

Rhi my baby's belly is much bigger than her legs and head (in comparison)..I think I'm having a little ET look alike!
I hope your appointment goes well with the urologist - keeping my fingers crossed for you x

Rachyroodle I will PM you re meeting up. I am working until 1st June and then I'm free! So maybe after then? Ooh very excited to meet a real life MN June Babybus person Grin

TDW Thank you for sharing your BF experience, it is very reassuring..I am v nervous about it but v determined!

Surf How are you and have you had your scan yet? I am thinking of you and have my fingers crossed.

Gwennie Urghhh to throwing up in your sleep, you poor thing :( I keep waking with heartburn but not been sick...yet!

10000FF How did it go with your consultant today (at least I think it was today!)?

Tea Yay to babytea coming home! :) You sound like you are doing a fabulous job, I am a little in awe of what you and babytea have achieved, please stay positive you are an inspiration...even though you may not feel it!

McKayz I am thinking of you whilst your DH is away. I'm an ex army wife so know what it is like to go long periods of time without your other half around. It's tough. Keep talking to us though, that's what we're here for x

Special I've just finished our nursery too. I hit it over the bank holiday weekend. Absolutely shattered now but very pleased with it. It was only really meant to be a cot in our office, but I have managed to make it into a nursery after all. The desk is now in the other bedroom and DP has put up shelves so all the paperwork is now in there too. :)

Novmama Glad you are no longer breech - fab news!

Kveta I love the name Emilie, it is one we have considered too :)

Chateau I am doing the GBS, my midwife said it's a good idea as the NHS don't offer it.

Small my bump seems to have dropped too...I only think this because I can breathe again!

Ceej good luck today :)

Hope you all have a good day and it's not too much of a shock after the bank holiday weekend, particularly for those still at work! I bet you're all counting down the days too :)

Updated stats....just thinking though, mine better be a boy after all the boys stuff I have bought!!

Good luck ceej hope it goes well.....! At elast you can relax and focus on baby ceej once that's over :)

tea great news that you will get home soon but must be scary! When DH saw pics of baby tea he started worrying about how on earth to look after something so small...must be so scary when it comes to hometime! You'll be fine though I'm sure and hopefully you have a lot of support. Great the breastfeeding is working.

We put our cot up at the weekend and picked up the pram so it all feels very real now. I'm so excited but just need to get through the next few weeks of work first. The woman we took on to cover some of my job when on maternity seems pretty useless so I have been told to sack her before I go...just don't need that stress :(

kveta hope the appointment goes well....I have one next week and can't wait to see how much he's grown.

I'll join the overheating club...I suppose it's maybe a good thing that May hasn't been too hot so far Grin

Totally agree with everyone refusing to give up wheat and dairy. I don't know what i'd eat! I'm sticking with the raspberry leaf capsules and hoping they counteract any bad stuff that lovely chocolate does to my cervix :o

In utter shock at Greengoose's loss...xx

If anyone can help with this then please have a look. Greengoose's Blanket

bemybebe · 08/05/2012 17:06

Hi again guys! I will add myself to the list later - what is the difference between "predicted to be a xxx" and "xxx" btw?

In case anyone is interested I have found two apps for contraction timing
www.contractionmaster.com/ which is probably most mentioned but one has to pay for it (despite it still being on google as "FREE") and Full Term from App Store in iTunes that gets v good reviews and does pretty much everything the first does including emailing the report to address you want!

Gwennie do you take ranitidine? I am also a fellow hb sufferer and it does help greatly (safe in pregnancy but on prescription). Otherwise I was told I can go to the stronger Omerprazole (sp??), but there was no need. I continue my digestive tumbler of aniseed gaviscon, even learned to like it (yum-yum Wink kidding! fucking hate its "wood glue" texture!)

Kayz my sympathies to your family about dh departure. My grand parents were a military family (dgd was a fighter pilot and dgm a doctor) and they traveled extensively as a couple. Their only child (my dm) was left in the care of her own gparents. One has to do what one has to do, but it does not make it any easier.

Tea still chuffed with the news that your LO is coming home so soon. Smile

Positive vibes to all overheaters and sleepless mums-to-be. I am FINE, but bet tonight it will all change (now that I uttered the F word). My gripe is BH and strong pain in the muscles between the ribs that are also contracting with BH. Went to see the physio and they are all just shaking heads "pregnancy niggles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes one does not imagine before getting pg"... (cheers!)

I am still tested every 2 weeks for GBS Chateau. I would have done it privately at 37 weeks if I was not simply because I know how devastating it can be if left undiagnosed. My hairdresser told me recently her 3 yo caught gbs intrapartum and had to spend over a week in the hospital after being allowed home for a couple of days first. Just remember, it is a funny infection, it comes and goes (I was tested all throughout this pg and was not tested + once despite loosing dd1 at 24 weeks last year due to this very one horrible infection). The most important thing is to be informed and prepared.

special don't worry about the weight. I had a chat with my MW the other day. I am now 33 weeks and put only 2.5kg Shock, so worried that somehow I am starving my lo of important nutrients but she just shrug the shoulders and said they are no longer weighting pg women because it is individual and is no indication of how the pg is progressing. Pre-pg BMI and u/s measurements of the baby give them a lot more info. Also, how quickly people drop off weight will be highly individual and hereditary as much as an indicator of a lifestyle habits.

Hope I did not bore you guys too much. Still wondering if anyone has any energy for a meet up sometime in May? Wink

McKayz · 08/05/2012 17:11

BeMy I put girl down as I have had 5 scans now that have said girl. During my growth scan the other week baby had 'her' legs wide open and there certainly weren't any boy bits Grin

I've put me on the bottom..... oh.... I'm going to be waiting after all you guys are well on the way to knowing what you're doing!! :( Same with my NCT class! :(

bemy haven't heard of rantidine... will have to ask the GP. Just been into collect my latest prescription of gaviscon and the lovely pharmacist asked why they hadn't given me a larger quantity. She also laughed when I went to get out my maternity exemption card and said she "hardly needed to see the card"! Why is it that when some people comment on how large you are it's just fine, and with others (like the lady who keeps calling me "great pie-eater") it's really rude and annoying!

My DH is being just lovely and I haven't really snapped at him yet, but the kids at school.... that's another matter. One of them was really quite rude to me today (enough that the rest of the class gave a communal intake of breath to see how I would react) and I lost the plot with him. I'm sorry, I'm just not that into seven year olds telling their teachers what to do. Grrr.

Really beginning to worry I can't manage much more work. Only done one day this week, and Tuesdays aren't even really very hard as we have lots of assemblies and stuff, but I'm shattered and feeling really weepy. They only interviewed today for my maternity cover until July and the one candidate (farcical, I know) can't start until May 28th, so only one week of handover and no lee-way for me to crash out earlier. I don't really know what to do because I don't want to go earlier than I need but I'm feeling a bit desperate..... wish I could go part time for a few weeks! Probably not helped by massively sore throat and general knackeredness....

ceej hope your viva went well... I assume it is over now! Does that mean we get to call you Dr Ceej now? My DH is a Dr of mathematics and the kids at school find it very odd that I refer to him as Dr Bee so I do it on purpose!!

ceeej · 08/05/2012 18:23

Thanks for all the positive thoughts ladies, they must have worked because examiners managed to (mostly) stay on track and actually ask me questions about my work and it only took two and a half hours for them to decide they'd pass me Grin There were a few ropey moments where I dug myself into a bit of a hole but generally no where near as terrifying as I expected. Off to the pub now to encourage everyone else to have a drink on my behalf!

McKayz thanks for the link to the blanket, have just volunteered

Wheat avoidance is part of the gentle birth method which one of the ladies in my NCT group is doing, no idea what the actual logic behind it is though

Stats updated below, I'm saying definitely girl as the sonographer showed us a very clear view of her 'girl parts' at 32 weeks!
