jenfraggle · 11/05/2012 08:52

Midwife said at my 36 week appointment that she would do a sweep at my next one if i wanted and then again on my due date so she knows it would be 39+2. All depends on my cervix playing ball so she may not be able to do it anyway.

What does your plan consist of? other than chocolate which I'm sure is a medically approved method

musicalmrs · 11/05/2012 09:06

That's good Jen! :)

Not entirely sure of the precise contents of the plan, but I'm sure it will involve spicy food, pineapple (I've had one for a week but it's only just getting ripe!), lots of walking and bouncing (even though I've done lots of both already), and maybe some hide the sausage if physically possible!

Had to miss a concert with a premier of one of my works in last night due to being in too much pain to survive the car journey there and back, so have consequently decided it's definitely time for this LO to put in an appearance!

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2012 09:31

hello and welcome to LOandI do make yourself comfortable and tell us a bit about yourself. We are the graduate group of the rat smackers/ brook no argument threads on the ttc boards. We also have a post grad thread on the post natal boards somewhere too. Do join in for the ride!

OOh so lots of sweeps coming up? Sounds exciting! And musical I like your plan! Sucks you had to miss a premier of one of your works though. Hopefully pain = beginning of sneeze birth?

What is everyone up to today? DS has a friend coming over this arvo along with parent and smaller sibling so a morning of pottering about tidying for us I think.
I noticed on the rat smackers thread they were doing a questionnaire type thing. So what are we all reading/ making/cooking or growing?

I'm reading If Chins Could Kill, Confessions of a B Movie Star by Bruce Campbell which is good but tres easy to read. I also need to finish The Childrens Book by A S Byatt which I've had on the go for ages but seems to take a long time to read.
I'm not making anythig yet but shall be making a new ring sling for impending baby when back from holibobs.
Not cooking much at the moment as we are on to fruits of the freezer dinners till after holibobs too although the rhubarb needs a cull so will make some rhubarb crumble muffins when we're back.
Over to you all.......

Hello everyone i'm just on my way back from hospital - I was in a lot of pain with v irregular contractions (and very frustrated after 3rd night of no sleep) so I went in to be monitored (and examined - after I insisted! ) midwife wasn't convinced but after she examined me she said "oh. You're 2 cms dilated and had 2 contractions in the past 10 minutes. You can go home now but we'll probably see you back around lunchtime!"
So I'm more positive today!! Looks like things might be happening soon..
Thank you for all the cheering and support it really helped keep me sane!!

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2012 09:38

go myth go! If possiblt try to keep uprightish and a little bit active (as in walking if you can not rock climbing or anything!) as gravity should certainly help. Otherwise, baths, hot water bottles etc where the pain is. Do keep us informed when you can. Brooking no argument you shall have a little baby in your arms to sniff by dinner time tonight! Grin

jenfraggle · 11/05/2012 09:53

Myth rotating your hips will help to push the head down on your cervix and encourage it to dilate further

mythical · 11/05/2012 09:59

Will definitely hop on the ball after this bath - midwife said try and doze off a bit in the bath if i can ( I was quite zombie-like lol!!)

Wants3 · 11/05/2012 10:45

Great news myth!
I have just got back from my midwife appointment, she has offered me a sweep next Friday, 40+1. yay! Although She did say she didn't expect to see me then:) I feel more positive as I wasn't expecting to be offered one until at least 41 weeks.
The builder doing our extension commented to dh that I seem very relaxed for someone who could go into labour any day with DH at least an hour and a half away!

Stacks · 11/05/2012 11:03

wants you should maybe scare your builder and mention he could always take you to the hospital, then your DH can go straight there to meet you. :)

myth I hope you sneeze that baby out soon.

musical I think plan 'baby eviction' is an excellent one, I think I'd be sooo impatient if I were in your shoes.

tock hope you're OK. Not too many early symptoms? I've had nausea since before my BFP, hoping it'll go away soon though. Just at 9 weeks, so the placenta should start kicking in soonish I think/hope.

dream lovely to see you, hope you're getting some sleep now and the twins have settled down and started sleeping at the same time.

Going to have to just send waves and hugs to everyone else. I've spent too long catching up on threads and need to get some work done. Biscuit and Brew for all.

musicalmrs · 11/05/2012 11:56

Wants, hurrah for a good MW appointment - and hurrah for being offered a sweep so soon after 40 weeks!

Just had mine - not so good. I have a consultant's appointment next Friday, where I should be offered a stretch and sweep if I want one. She didn't say anything about how engaged the baby was, but has written NE - not engaged, isn't it? :( I know it has engaged from previous appointments, so think it's engaging and disengaging as and when...

Feeling a little miserable. May have devoured a whole packet of biscuits on the way home... on the plus side she gave me some Lansinoh sachets to try, so will begin testing those today.

Myth, crossing fingers that things are moving quicker for you now - especially as it's now around lunchtime! Brooking everything goes wonderfully.

Ninja, is rock climbing not a good way of getting labour going then?

Wants3 · 11/05/2012 12:58

musical Sorry your appointment wasnt so positive, you have every right to eat as many biscuits as you want! Maybe stomping your feet a bit will help get the head engaged too:)
This bean is still 3/5 ths and will probably stay that way until I go into active labour. I really must get moving but I have just been eating lunch while finishing my book and am feeling quite comfy on the sofa!
DH wants things to happen as he has had a busy week and wants to be off before the next load of work gets pushed his way( his manager has been off sick so DH picking up the slack:( )

musicalmrs · 11/05/2012 13:04

Thanks Wants. Having finished the biscuits, I have a slab of chocolate for this afternoon.. maybe I should hold off a bit!

Thinking about it, my mother engaged during labour with all her children I think - or that's as far as she remembers anyway! Maybe I'll be the same. Clinging to a thread of hope that that's the case :)

My DH also wants things to happen for work reasons Wants! It works out perfectly if the LO arrives on time this weekend sometime -but his boss is a little scuppered if his the baby comes a bit late and his paternity leave has to be delayed.

Going to keep myself busy with some work and room organising this afternoon, alongside more time on the ball!

ScrambledSmegs · 11/05/2012 14:49

Yay mythl! Hope everything's moving along nicely, and that youv'e managed to get a bit of rest.

musical sorry yours wasn't so great. Have you tried some of the birth ball exercises on t'internet that supposedly get the baby into position? I don't know if they worked with DD, but they were definitely comfortable - I fell asleep with my head on the ball once and only woke up when I rolled off!

Had a supremely useless visit to the hospital. I've got my dating/nuchal scan tomorrow, and was told by a receptionist over the phone to go in today to have my combination bloods done Hmm Of course I should have queried this, as clearly they can't do the combination bloods till they have the nuchal scan result. DD got incredibly bored and hyper, but we finally got out of there (with some new dates for consultant meeting and counselling sessions set up re: previous birth trauma, bit late but whatever). I treated her to her first Happy Meal in order to say sorry, she loved it Blush Ah fuck it, it's not going to kill her is it?!

cakes82 · 11/05/2012 15:22

Wow how many babies will have arrived by the time I get back from my holiday? I might get on a computer wed night at MIL otherwise it wont be until we get home on Thurs.
Good luck to everyone enjoy your newborn snuggles.

musicalmrs · 11/05/2012 15:28

Have a lovely holiday cakes! I reckon Myth and Wants will be having their newborn snuggles by Thursday.. :)

Smegs, I've tried the bouncing/rocking/hips in circles on the ball, though none of the kneeling exercises- will have to have a go! :) I sit on it a lot, as I find it a lot more comfy for my back than the sofa (I have a long term back condition). I have definitely felt the LO lowest after being on the ball and walking, so it clearly helps -it's just clearly stubborn, and doesn't like being engaged!

Sorry your hospital visit was useless :( At least you managed to escape - and glad she enjoyed her Happy Meal! One every now and again won't kill her :)

Stacks · 11/05/2012 17:04

Smegs my nephew went to MacD's few times with his child minder as a toddler. Before he could talk (or read obviously) he would point to the big M and say "num nums". Embarrassed my sister no end :)

He'd do the same for the ikea logo too, only that was a little more interesting (from my pov) as he could 'read' it in black and white print, as well as the blue and yellow colouring.

mythical · 11/05/2012 17:39

Musical my lo wasn't engaged either at my 39+ wk appt
(not that I'm a particularly encouraging example)
Still at home as things weren't progressing - just been for a 3 mile walk around the countryside and getting some contractions now.. This is day 4 of slow labour!!
Come on baby :)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 11/05/2012 17:40

Oooh, go Myth! Hope all is progressing nicely.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 11/05/2012 20:02

No Brooking that things start moving faster for MythGood luck! Hopefully the sneezing stage will kick in shortly!

Also No Brooking for Musical, sorry about the lame appt, but you're a No Brooker so nothing is going to get in your way! Your LO has engaged enough times in the past that s/he knows the way and will doubtless slip into position just as you take a deep breath at the start of your sneeze...

Wants I'm sending lots of No Brooking vibes to your LO to make an appearance this weekend! Good luck!

How are you feeling Jen? I hope newborn snuggles are imminent for you too!

Tock and Stacks I feel your pain on the nausea front! I had a dodgy restaurant meal yesterday and ended up puking into my napkin! Haven't had anything like that happen since the first tri, it brought back some memories... I hope you're not feeling too bad, soon you'll be past this stage!

Smegs good luck for your scan tomorrow!!

Ninja your questionnaire made me feel super guilty! At the moment my whole life revolves around PFB - feeding, napping, and introducing her to family members! I can't remember the last time I read/made/cooked or grew anything?!

Munx2 · 11/05/2012 20:05

Evening

I am a rubbish brooker, I cannot keep up...sorry Blush

Keeping everything crossed for speedy labours for the four imminent ladies!

Special mention to myth....... Not long now!

My sacroiliac dysfunction has rendered me pretty much immobile, very fed up and in a lot of pain.

jenfraggle · 11/05/2012 20:07

Nothing is happening here, 2 BH yesterday and that's the first time I've had any for ages.

Munx2 · 11/05/2012 20:14

Hope things get moving Jen are you all set?

I was packing my bags when in labour, and DH was making the crib Blush

She was two weeks early though...... (sorry all over 38 weeks waiting Brookers......)

jenfraggle · 11/05/2012 20:37

Today is the first day in months that for large parts I've forgotten I'm pregnant. I feel so normal and have had more energy too.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2012 21:33

scream you've just had a baby by c-section after being immobilised with spd for months on end. I would expect you (and indeed any other brooking grad) to be dealing with their baby not actually having time to read or pursue hobbies! How is your beautiful bean by the way? You sound smitten Grin
myth hope the walk finally kicked it all off and you're sneezing your bean out right now.
Poor ds appears to be coming down with a stinking cold. He's all snotty and wet eyed and going hot and cold. I reckon tonight could be a long one. Mind you I'd rather he got it now and had a few days to get over the worst before we go away.

I've got lots of chinese take away plastic tubs to fill with freezer meals - anyone got any good suggestions apart from pasta bolognese?

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 11/05/2012 21:51

Ninja - hope DS is ok.

Freezer meals - I did fish pie mix (so I just needed to do some potatoes to go in top of it) and intended to do a chicken pie mix too. Plus gallons and gallons of bolognaise or chicken pasta sauces!
