Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks for adding me to the list shellybobs

I think I might call tomorrow and ask about my date for a scan. No point complaining if I don't ask about it! Everything else was quite efficient so I just assumed this would be speedy. I suppose they have another 2 weeks still as I am 12 weeks tomorrow. Cutting it a bit fine though!

ShellyBobbs · 25/04/2012 17:50

passme No problem. Worth the phone call, it could be that your letter with your appointment has been lost in the post.

Stuntnun · 25/04/2012 18:06

Shelly you know the day you dtd but you could have ovulated four days later and the little swimmers were there waiting for it. Doesn't really matter either way, only five percent of babies arrive on their due date.

VBAC is vaginal birth after Caesarean.
Synto is the syntocin drip they put you on to induce labour. It mimics the action of the hormone oxytocin.

Just put my name down on a nursery waiting list?! Omg?!!! Theyre all so full?! Think mum may have to retire!! Maybe a childminder better? Fingers crossed justone all ok xxx

ValiumQueen · 25/04/2012 18:19

Horseylady nurseries are constantly moving kids up in agegroups and lose a lot to school etc each year. They will have space for you when the time comes.

GTbaby · 25/04/2012 18:21

I have been to 2 baby showers (im in London area) one was just a get together in a pub n other at friends house with games and decorations. Think it's becoming more common.

For me is more just a chance for a girly get together with my close friends n family. Sister will organise it (she has already started looking At decorations and games). I am going to have a no gifts policy. As my mil is against buying anything for the baby, so tech not really a shower.

ValiumQueen · 25/04/2012 18:24

I would chose a nursery over childminder any day as used to have problems arranging alternate care if CM or her kids ill, when she was on holiday etc. Nurseries also have usually more structure and activities. I found out that DD1 spent most of her day in car seat or pushchair doing school runs or watching TV - she came on in leaps and bounds when she started nursery. DD2 has only ever been at nursery and she loves it.

applepieinthesky · 25/04/2012 18:50

Yes shelly baby showers are becoming more and more common over here. I have been to a few and I'm invited to another next month.

ShellyBobbs · 25/04/2012 18:59

Stunt 'Shelly you know the day you dtd but you could have ovulated four days later and the little swimmers were there waiting for it. Doesn't really matter either way, only five percent of babies arrive on their due date.'

Doesn't my new date (4 days earlier) mean I would have conceived earlier than my date? I have severe baby brain at the moment so excuse me if I'm being really thick. Thanks for the info re abbreviations too :)

What is the point of a baby shower if no presents? Don't mean to be pedantic, just really intrigued, wouldn't it just be a girly get together? Watch this, I'll be invited to loads now this year :)

My spelling has totally gone out of the window this week, thank goodness for spell check!

ShellyBobbs · 25/04/2012 19:01

My boobs are killing me again too, it might just be that they are growing again because I just bent down and the right one fell out of my bra. Looks like it's an E cup Shock

applepieinthesky · 25/04/2012 19:03

It's just a girly night in really with nibbles and lots of baby themed games.

WaitingForMe · 25/04/2012 19:06

My brother's fiancée is keen for me to have a baby shower ShellyBobbs. I've been a bit reluctant as it seems greedy when I intend to have a party for the naming ceremony (think full on Christening but with atheists) and know my family and friends will be buying gifts then.

I've agreed to do something small where my family are (mum, brother and stepbrothers all in same town) so she can order cupcakes with tiny sugar shoes etc but shan't be asking my friends to contribute or join in.

It's the first baby in my generation and I'm flattered she wants to make a fuss. Even if I do have to play party games Hmm

ShellyBobbs · 25/04/2012 19:13

Hehe Apple & Waiting, sounds good, especially the nibbles :)

applepieinthesky · 25/04/2012 19:21

Some games I have played at baby showers are guess the name, weight & date, guess the size of the baby bump with a tape measure, guess how many sweets in a baby's bottle, celebrity baby names quiz. Then we eat, drink and sit around cooing at all the cute presents Smile

TheDetective · 25/04/2012 19:23

Home - all is fine. :)

Feeling a little deflated however, as I saw the screen for all of 10 seconds and have the crappest picture ever. Now going to arrange a private scan because I feel so damn hormonal ungrateful bitch. DP assures me the baby was wriggling away, and saw it doing all kinds. But I didn't. And I want to. Blush

Due date moved forwards, to 3rd November, making me 12+4. I don't think its right, but whatever. It makes no difference to my plans, as I will be refusing IOL Grin. The scan I had at 8 weeks exactly put me as 7+4, so I am now 6 days ahead of those dates. Ah well!

I suspect it will just be another monster baby!

No problems in ANC afterwards, the midwife knew me but I didn't know her! as she is newly qualified (been there 3 weeks!) and had trained where I work. She just made a note of 'declines cons. care, declines GTT, planning home birth.' Grin So that was a worry over nothing!

I had to go book my anomoly scan following this, and was a little alarmed by the receptionist who declared 'oh shit, not another one'. Confused Apparently because of the bank hols in June, and they are closed for a week for audit, they can't fit me in. So I will be 20+4, which makes me a little concerned - if there are any problems, or they are unable to scan me properly, then time is ticking. They were supposed to book me in at 18 weeks.

The receptionist couldn't understand why they were so inundated with scans. I informed her of the reasons why this may be Grin so it looks like November is a busy month.

Chunkychicken · 25/04/2012 19:28

My "baby shower" with DD was afternoon tea at a nice coffee shop with some of my work friends after work, & they kindly gave me gifts etc.

I also went to my work friend's own baby shower & it was a MUCH bigger thing. Loads of guests, at a hired venue, tea & cakes laid on and played games. It was far more than I would enjoy personally, but each to their own.

Obviously I won't be "entitled" to anything this time because its #2... Grin

Chunkychicken · 25/04/2012 19:32

Is it really that urgent for the anomaly scan detective? I only ask because I had mine with DD at something like 21+ weeks I think. I remember it was on time for 12 wk scan & more than 8 wks later for 2nd one.... Also, what's GTT? Glad everything is ok :)

Chunkychicken · 25/04/2012 19:33

Oh and 'IOL'? Confused

DonnaDoon · 25/04/2012 19:35

That is pants really isnt it Detective ? such is disapointment when youve been so looking forward to it.

TheDetective · 25/04/2012 19:40

GTT - glucose tolerance test to check for gestational diabetes. Offered if you have certain 'risk factors' or develop particular issues in pregnancy where it may be suspected.

IOL - induction of labour.

It isn't that urgent, its just that if there are problems, well, they should be known as early in the pregnancy as possible. The anomoly scan is to check for abnormalities. I guess not knowing things are okay, when I could have known almost 3 weeks earlier is what is bothering me.

Just found an online deal for a scan for £39. Might buy it....

DonnaDoon · 25/04/2012 19:42

I would... I mean 10 seconds seeing your babba...not enough is it ?

TheDetective · 25/04/2012 19:46

I wouldn't of even minded 30 seconds, just to look. DP got to see it all and he is happy as larry :( I feel bad for feeling so disappointed. But you can't help your hormones, huh?! And the picture isn't recognisable as anything!

Am going to book it, once I've rang them and checked availability.

applepieinthesky · 25/04/2012 19:50

£39 is a bargain. They are £95 around here.

Tiago · 25/04/2012 20:01

Definite bargain - a 12 week scan is nearly £200 here. Glad all is well detective.

ValiumQueen · 25/04/2012 20:08

Is the company nation wide detective?
