Oh Detective, that sounds rough -sorry. You do accrue annual leave while on mat leave so you should be able to add that on before / after your official leave.

I'm 11 weeks today. I've had bad headaches for about a week, but paracetamol makes me sick so I can't take anything. I'm also sneezing a lot. Today I took DD (4) into town for a playdate in the park. We got rained on and I had to lift her on and off some fairground rides, and stand for about 3/4 hours. I've totally overdone it. I feel all strained and overstretched, and I passed out on the sofa while I was supposed to be making her supper. Egg on toast for me and DH later I think, and an early night.

My scan is a week on Monday and my first consultant appt the Friday after. It's been a while since I've had a scan so I'm a bit concerned they're both OK. Everyone knows it's twins - I'm huge already so keeping it quiet is impossible - and it would be awful if it suddenly wasn't twins after all . Meanwhile I've been scaring myself on the multiple births thread (60% of twins are born before 34 weeks, eek), and the giving-birth-in-France threads (it sounds as if the mother has no say in what happens during labour or after, and they keep you in hospital for a week), and the baby equipment threads (2 of everything! How much will all that cost? And where will it go??) and the pregnant-with-an-underactive-thyroid-and-diabetes threads, and have generally been too tired and hungry/sick to be excited. ILs come next week so I will let them look after DD and cook for a bit while I rest up. I will feel better after the scan and appointment, once I have an idea of what I'm in for.

Poor you detective, thats no way to spend a day
I used to work in SCBU when I was preggo with no 3 the only way I could afford to stay on working was stick to bank work which was so much better paid but as I could never afford to go onto contract, I never did get a pension or any other longterm benefits. Hope you feel brighter soon

I got my appointment through the post today for 3rd of May at 4.30pm.
DP can't make it because of work so I'm going to tell my mum at the weekend and ask her to come with me.

Detective this is pasted from the Agenda for Change handbook -

"in the case of an employee on unpaid sick absence or on
sick absence attracting half pay during the whole or part
of the period used for calculating average weekly
earnings in accordance with the earnings rules for
Statutory Maternity Pay purposes, average weekly
earnings for the period of sick absence shall be

calculated on the basis of notional full sick pay."

I had the same problem when i was pregnant with my daughter. Payroll told me it would be June and July's wage that mat pay was calculated on but i was off sick and down to half pay so i was really concerned but they told me mat pay is based on what you would have been paid not the sick pay! a big relief!

As I couldn't face DIY I got my hair dyed at the salon. Got a party in early May and will be back for a cut and colour then. Eyebrows will keep being waxed and I'm shaving whenever I can face it. DH didn't marry for my glamour but it was something that first attracted him and I don't want to lose that part of myself if I can help it IYSWIM.

We just got a date for MIL to have brain surgery. Good news as she should be transferred back to a local hospital or out by the time bump is born. We've been waiting 4 months and are telling her about bump the day before she goes in.

In the NHS you can get your mat pay paid in six equal payments rather than full pay for two months, half pay for 4. Because of SMP, this means we get paid a bit more overall. I had to go back to work at 5mths with both my two as DH was an unpaid student, and we were not entitled to any benefits. He is now working, so I will actually be better off taking the full year than going back and paying for 2 lots of childcare. I will also probably be better off cutting my hours.

detective do you pay a mortgage? if so you could take a payment holiday?

chicken Every scan but one that I've had (and I've had over a dozen) have been on an empty bladder. Maybe because I have huge fibroids and that helps make it easier to see?

I had my OMP split over the full year i took off last time (NHS), the SMP cant get split so is paid from weeks 9-39 i think it is which tends to mean that first and last few months are less money but much better than having no pay for last 3 months!

On more interesting news I have my scan tomorrow (a reassurance one due to clot), quite nervous!

I've ate crab this lunch time, and forbidden food is the best! Well I'm off to bed as I have to be up early tomorrow for work.
I've also updated my self too.

Izzy I did not know you could get it split over the year - I will try for that. Also, I thought SMP was for a full year. I clearly need to look into this. All the best for your scan tomorrow - hope the pesky clot is not causing any problems and that little bean is fine x

NHS pay is 8 weeks full pay (no SMP cos that would mean you had more than your usual wages!), 18 weeks half pay (+SMP), 13 weeks SMP only and 13 weeks unpaid. So the 8 weeks full pay and 18 weeks half pay is split over the year but some months you will be entitled to SMP also. Also cos SMP is paid weekly some months you get 4 weeks and some 5!

Sorry I've been absent, I had a big of a wobble and didn't want to get too excited about things incase I miscarried again.

But here I am, still pregnant, booked in with my mw and had a scan to see heartbeat flickering away. Next scan will be at 12 weeks.
I'm 9+4 today.

Cravings are garlic bread, melon and grapes but saying that sickness and heartburn are getting worse by the day.

My thighs also look like lard although my stomach is rounded it's quite firm.

Looking forward to telling people, atm people think I'm being a mardy recluse.

I got a call today to say my last wee sample was showing infection so needs repeating urgently, and I'm still on Fragmin for my sticky blood.

I've finally de-fuzzed myself today and am smooth and silky until the re-growth tomorrow.

I'm dreading maternity leave and the going back, it's absolutely awful when you have to leave your little baby at home, the mothers guilt thing is a killer. We should start a lottery syndicate and keep our fingers crossed for a November win so we call all tell them to stuff it :)

10 weeks today yay, double figures at last and only in the last couple of days have I been able to feel my uterus.

Going to get a load of holidays in tomorrow I think to start breaking up these shifts, I can only imagine how hard it will be dragging round the large bump for 12 hours :)

When I spoke to the twats HR, they told me that if I wanted averaged pay, and I was only taking 6 months off, it was pointless.

I would recieve £550 less a month in the first 2 months because SMP only kicks in at week 9. So would be no better off having averaged pay.

Mortgage holiday is not an option due to negative equity - been there and done that, rang them when was TTC to see if it was a possibility, and told no. Also mortgage just been put up by Halifax because they decided to increase the SVR, and we are tied to it due to neg. equity.

The only option is the bank shifts, and save the money, to use to top up wages in the shitty months!! Need to save at least £2000 between now and November.

I feel for you regarding the mortgage thing. We are also in negative equity supposedly although their 'valuation' is done from guestimates so they did say if i get a proper valuation that may help. We too have been hit by the svr RISE!

Yes, I asked about having it valued properly, as the information they must be going off isn't accurate for our property. We live on a main road, and all the houses here are very different, so not sure how they can value it over the phone! They told me it would be £400 to value it to see if they could help me with a mortgage holiday. I put the phone down! You have to be at no higher than 80% LTV. Or 120% to go on a different product. But they said mine was 122% LTV!

So woke up and start chugging thro my aim of two pints. Also had my Cheerios 5 mins before we left ... I said goodbye to my water n Cheerios down the loo. Felt awful, so couldn't even sip water on way to hospital.

So then got a lil worried at thought of dildo scan. ( was relieved I got the full wax )

But all was fine. Was surprised that the gel was warm!
Was totally shocked to see my lil fraggle on the screen. was moving so much, arms legs can see the nose Loved it.

Ended up at home Very tiered n headache due to lack of food/ drink n crashed out for the rest of the day.

The baby reads 12+3. N according to my calculation I'm 12days. Not going to change my stats tho as unlikely to be born on any due date I'm given anyway! N 1st nov is easy for me to remember lol.

Also detective is it possible to get a free valuation from a local estate agent. That way u will have an idea of ur house price n can then decide if paying bank to do it will be worth it or not.

Detective mortgages are terrible at the moment aren't they? We've been with Scottish Widows for six years, never missed a payment but because our LTV ratio is over 90% we are judged to be a 'bad credit risk' and can't get a fixed deal. It sucks!

We are a house of plague at the moment. DS2 has a temperature of 38.5 and it looks like the cat has cat flu. She hasn't moved yet this morning but the tip of her tail is twitching so I don't think she's in a coma but I'm very worried. I hope I'll be able to get an appointment for her early this morning.

Felt sick last night despite sucking on lemon sherberts. I feel quite bad I promised dh some sex as we haven't since sat but I was in a poo mood because ds took ages to go to sleep, then I felt sick then knackered and just fell asleep in bed! I know I don't have to do anything if I don't want to but I DO want to! I just physically can't by the evening.
We've got the afternoon all to ourselves on sat as its my birthday and my mum is looking after ds. The weather looks like its going to be awful so we've decided on a DVD/ sex afternoon!

Hope you are all well. Just been reading through and lots happening. That's a pain detective about the mat leave, I really hope you manage to work it out. I honestly haven't looked in to it yet but probably should soon. I've had to start working in clinic since the scary bleed the other week which means no nights or weekends (woohoo) but also no increments (boohoo) I had planned to glow through pregnancy and also do bank shifts twice a month to fill up some savings but need a new plan now!!

Like thereis I'm going up need 2 of everything. I'm hoping that them being the first grandchildren on both side may pull at some heart strings?!

12 weeks on Monday scan on Wednesday - counting the minutes!!!

SMP is payable when you first go on Mat leave - you do not need to wait 6 weeks, so if with NHS, ask for equal payments over the time you are off, and SMP will bump up earnings to 90% for first six weeks, then kick in at standard for the remainder of the 39 weeks. I have done this twice already.
