Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
eversomuch · 18/04/2012 15:22

Welcome rowing. Glad to hear your scan went well. I also have a 13mo DC and am due 8 Nov, so on a similar journey. My scan is next Tuesday. How are you managing these days? I'm sleeping when DD sleeps during the day. Only way I can make it through. In fact, I think she's finally nodded off, so time to crawl into bed for a power nap.

chicken I have been craving mac & cheese like crazy. Planning to make it tomorrow night as DH is away tonight and I would very likely scoff the whole thing down myself. Oh, for a lovely glass of red wine to go with it...

Chunkychicken · 18/04/2012 15:27

I felt totally awful over the Easter break. I suspect my cold was merging with the pg symptoms and making both worse. Felt quite good & energetic at times yesterday which, ironically, concerned me, but equally forgot that about 3pm today & yesterday I almost fell asleep in the front of the TV whilst DD was napping. Is that baby brain do you think - being selective about the symptoms you remember/fret about??!!!

And hey Row :)

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/04/2012 15:39

I think one of the scans today wasn't until 4 so they wouldn't have had it yet.

Got to stop eating all afternoon, feel so bloated by the time we have dinner that I can't eat it and feel sick all eve.

applepieinthesky · 18/04/2012 15:48

Mmmm macaroni cheese Smile

Just made my first ever cup of decaff tea and it is absolutely disgusting. Wtf?
Is it supposed to smell all sickly sweet and taste like crap or is the teabag out of date?

Stuntnun · 18/04/2012 16:09

No Apple, decaf is supposed to taste crap. You can decaffeinate normal tea by steeping the bag for 30 seconds (water must be straight off the boil) then chucking out the water and rebrewing it. This removes most of the caffeine and tastes just the same as real tea.

OP posts:
applepieinthesky · 18/04/2012 16:19

Oh that sounds a much better option. I'll try that next time.
I didn't think decaff would taste so foul. How do people drink it?? Confused

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/04/2012 17:02

Decaff pg tips isn't too bad but then I've gone off tea altogether.

It's gone quiet on the thread recently, hope we haven't lost people :(

Thechick · 18/04/2012 17:09

I'm sure people are just busy with the holidays over.

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/04/2012 17:14

Yeah I keep forgetting that not everyone already has a dc, being a sahm I expect everyone else to be too!

shanelle5 · 18/04/2012 17:18

Im still lurking, I check up on everyone most days but dont post so much as it was moving so fast they seemed to get missed. I do love reading what everyone is up to its so reasurring to compare symptoms!
I had my private scan Saturday as I mentioned and it was just lovely. Bit of a surprise to be dated a week ahead approx as im absolutely convinced I knew when bub was concieved. Its not like we DTD every night TBH so I was really quite confused as a week difference seemed a lot. Baby measured 4.45cm and when I looked up this did seem to big for my assumed date of 10+4 so I will be going by the new date, hopefully confirmed when I have the 12 week scan. I guess they cant be wrong as apparantly the little beans are pretty uniform sizes at the early stages and not just big babies like they could be in later scans Smile Anyway he/she was very active kicking legs and waving tiny arms, even flexing the whole body in a little flip. Even though its my no5 I was still misty eyed and full of wonder

YellowWellies · 18/04/2012 17:29

Hello just got in from the scan. All good! :) Have been dated at exactly 9 weeks with a due date of 21st November. Scan revealed a very wiggly, mobile, hand (hand bud) waving baby. Much more like a baby than the last scan. Next scan is on 2nd May which should be 11 weeks exactly and should enable the nuchal test. We're on holiday then for the next fortnight (great timing) so hence getting it done early.

shanelle5 · 18/04/2012 17:33

Congrats yellow sounds like things are moving along perfectly Smile

TheDetective · 18/04/2012 17:40

Congratulations Shanelle and YW! Yay! How exciting!

I have spent most of today crying. I won't go in to details, but will just say, I am not sure I can take much maternity leave now. Not even the 6 months I was intending to. Finances are too tight with the mat. leave.

I don't know how the fuck I'm going to go back to work and leave a 4/5 month old baby. Not to mention working nights, with such a young baby. And that it probably won't be sleeping through, and I have to be up at 5am some days... and the hormones. Meaning I won't want to leave my baby. :(

I hate my work.

Oh, and they won't tell me which weeks they use for working out my maternity pay. Or what happens if I am still or sick. Or if I have annual leave during that time.

Twats.

Sorry

misslaughalot · 18/04/2012 17:43

Fab news yellow (even if I am a bit Envy at all those having scans...23 days to go...aaarrgghhh)

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 18/04/2012 17:44

Good news yellow wellies - I thought I was the 21st, but had booking in today and am the 22nd. Race you??

After my good day earlier in the week, I've gone downhill again and feel vile. Have insomnia too, which is making the nausea so much worse. Was gagging up bile at 3.30am this morning. Nice.

Am surprised people are thinking about waxing etc for the scans! Do sonographers/midwives actually notice, let alone care? I really can't be arsed. If it manage to brush my hair it's a good day at the moment!

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 18/04/2012 17:46

That sounds shit Detective. I would have thought midwifery was quite a family friendly job. Obviously not.

Do you have family who can help you out?

YellowWellies · 18/04/2012 17:47

Fruitsalad I was just proud I didn't wee on the sonographer when she was pressing on my belly. I really really don't give a rats ass about my lady bits general tidiness at the mo' (poor DH, actually no sod it he didn't marry Amy Childs so he doesn't expect that kind of artifice) Grin. I'm on a for a race!

daisychain76 · 18/04/2012 17:51

Lovely news yellow and shanelle

apple Yorkshire decaff is pretty ok

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 18/04/2012 17:53

Yes, what is this full bladder nonsense? I wasn't told to do it last time. And that was at a much better hospital than I am currently at ( I have moved house).

TheDetective · 18/04/2012 17:55

Fruit

It is the most unfamily friendly job ever. Well, it feels that way.

There is a lot of discontent at the moment, because management are being horrendous to us all, particularly with flexible working requests, and shift swaps that we may need. Everything is being refused. Its been a nightmare for a while. Been in this trust 16 months, and as soon as I've had the baby, I'm going to look for work elsewhere. I should of stayed where I was when I got my first job. The travelling was horrific, but conditions were a damn site better than where I am now!

Not got family to help out in the way of someone to care for the baby while I work, but DP is going to work less hours. Its still going to be a flippin' nightmare though. I think DP will take the rest of my leave, but he can only do that once my pay increases, as we can't take the hit all in one go. Nightmare.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 18/04/2012 18:11

Oh that is hard. Sounds like you need to change trusts as soon as you can. Not great to be worrying about it now though! I know a midwife and she has a really good balance - does one or two long shifts a week where her husband covers childcare. Although obviously long shifts are tiring!

I am thinking of training to be a midwife eventually ( was a journo in former life but don't want to go back to it now), but not until this one is older - I'm told the course is quite full on!

Anyway, my good news is my midwife was really keen for me to have a homebirth, so I'm excited about that. Although I'm still not entirely convinced there is a baby there - roll on scan day! I can't find my uterus either, am I being stupid?

PetiteRaleuse · 18/04/2012 18:17

Well done to those who had good scans today :)

I'll be having mine tomorrow morning and then if all is well shall we digging out the matnernity clothes over the weekend as everything is getting too tight. I just didn't want to jinx myself by starting to wear them now.

Looking forward to the blissful comfort of my maternity jeans :)

TheDetective · 18/04/2012 18:21

See, long days would be ideal for me. But our Trust stopped them completely last year. The sickness levels and incidents are now through the roof. But we are being continually punished by management, with things taken away from us. It is actually like being at school.

I despair.

Chunkychicken · 18/04/2012 18:36

Great news about the scans but also v Envy as I have 28 days to wait!!!! Arggghhhh.

Sounds awful Detective and I thought teaching was a bit poor regarding mat pay etc. The irony huh??!!! Perhaps you'll win the lottery... Hmm

Every uterus/ovary scan I've ever had has required a full bladder. Inc the scan to rule out PCOS and that was about an hour late... The sonographer said "oooh, your bladder's a bit full isn't it?" - I kid you not, I was like 'D'Oh!!!' as I resisted the urge to moan in agony as she pressed on it/wee myself Blush

Feel the same way YW DH didn't marry me for my permatan/blonde highlights/fake nails etc and I'm not a girl, I'm a woman FFS so I have HAIR. In places I'd rather not have truth be told, but heh. He's got a hairy back so he can wax first...

TheDetective · 18/04/2012 18:39

That's what DP said while I was crying. I just gave him the death stare Grin.

Just been chatting with someone from work who is due 8 weeks before me. She is planning on going off at 35 weeks with annual leave, and doing bank shifts in that time to save the money and use next years leave at basic pay with the bank money to top up crap wages. That is why I love my colleagues. They are devious... haha!

Just have to join the NHSP bank now. Which is a saga in itself!
