chunkychicken There is 2 years 6 months between my second and third and they are as thick as thieves, one is DD is 7 my son is 10, they absolutely adore each other. Before that my son was as close to my eldest daughter who is 11, but she soon out matured him :) it seems he is mentally the same age as my youngest who tends to keep him in line much better than I do.

Chunkychicken · 12/04/2012 15:35

I think I saw some posts about movement so far (can only skim read as get so behind, then feel sick etc, so apologies...) surely at 8+ wks any movement I feel is wind right? I mean baby is the size of a large grape, so surely any fidgeting with his/her stumpy little limbs won't impact on me??!! The other Mum I whined about is saying she can feel movement... I'm being a bitch, sorry Blush

My Dad is a twin so DH is convinced its twins but MW said my uterus doesn't feel particularly large, so unlikely but still poss.

I wasn't tempted with homebirth (thinking mess, hassle etc) but after the conversation I had with MW today, its def food for thought. Think I'd send DD to my Mum & Dad's or sister's anyway, but want a waterbirth and feel that the resources at the local hospital are so stretched, I won't be admitted until its too late for that anyway, iyswim, which is kind of what happened first time around. Luckily, it wasn't as quick as you Shelly but 12hrs from show to placenta was quick enough for me!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/04/2012 15:44

I wouldn't have thought you can feel movement at 8 weeks. If the movements you feel is followed by wind then you know what it is!
I'd say at least 12 weeks for a second+ baby and even then depends on position of the placenta and mothers body shape.

ShellyBobbs · 12/04/2012 15:52

Oh yeah, mines all wind and no mistake! I had little bubbles glugging under my boobs last night.

Brockle · 12/04/2012 15:57

Well I too am thinking about a homebirth after my booking appointment. Chanced on my parenbts in ASDA afterwards and they were horrified at the thought of a homebirth which left me a little disappointed. Stupid hormones again. My second labour was textbook and just three hours after being admitted so I think its an option. Lots of time to mull it over. Feels a bit more real now seeing my maternity notes on the shelf, roll on the 9th May and my scan.

Husband shopping with the kids and an assortment of family. Want to be glad that he is out enjoying himself but just bored and resentful!

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/04/2012 16:01

Got my scan date...11th sodding may at 4pm. That's a whole MONTH away fgs. Not only that I've got to wait ALL DAY on the day im not in the best moods today.

GsyAutumn · 12/04/2012 16:03

Blush I fell asleep at my desk......I REALLY hope none of my colleagues noticed! I keep getting raised eyebrows as normally I am the "tea queen" and I have gone right off it.

Hurry up 5 o clock....I need to go fetch the children and then get myself them to bed!

WaitingForMe · 12/04/2012 16:03

Maybe they've mixed up the baby starting to move at around 8 weeks. If I understand it correctly that's when they start moving about but it's tiny movements and because it's so small we can't feel it for quite a few weeks.

My antenatal care is tied to the birth I want. I think I chose the most common option (midwife led care and attend the birth unit) as the midwife basically confirmed this when reading my forms. Unless I'd been over 35 or had a high BMI I think that is what they want most of us to choose.

Chunkychicken · 12/04/2012 16:05

Brockle the short gap between being admitted & birth of DD makes me think about homebirth. I went in early in the evening, and was sent home as only 1cm. In an ideal world, I should have been admitted & getting pain relief (if I wanted it!!) as I went back after my waters broke about 2hrs later, at 9cm. If I want a waterbirth, I would need them to fill the pool when I first go in, iyswim, & I doubt v much that's an option. I also think being in the delivery suite on the g&a slowed it down, so DD would have taken less than 2.5hrs if I'd been in water/at home, moving about, if that makes sense.

Bluetinkerbell · 12/04/2012 16:07

Gsy I love working from home Wink I just had a snooze on the sofa! :)

DD2's pregnancy last year I could feel her from around 12 weeks...

I've been thinking about a home birth as well, or a water birth in the hospital...
but at the moment can't do any of those as I am under consultant-care due to losing DD2 at 20 weeks last year, so will have to wait and hope they will release me back to MW-led care...

Chunkychicken · 12/04/2012 16:12

I thought that about the birth to Waiting but she said they're promoting homebirth as the rate is dropping. I suppose its easier if its your second & the first was low risk etc.

The other Mum also said she felt movement with her first at 10wks. I mean, I know she's dead skinny but still, that's unlikely right??!! I know its earlier with your second, mostly because you recognise it for what it is, but that must be dependant on position of baby/placenta too.Confused

ValiumQueen · 12/04/2012 16:13

I am 10+3 and swear I can feel flutterings. I remember being able to feel DD1 (later, obviously) scratching with her fingers so very clearly - like how a cat does... Of course, if there are three in there... (((faints)))

ValiumQueen · 12/04/2012 16:15

I am not chunkys nemesis, honest. I am not skinny for a start! but I do weigh less now Grin

Brockle · 12/04/2012 16:29

Me too chunky, if I could be at home then I can do what I want and you get same midwife for the duration. No slowing down due to travelling to the hospital etc. DH very sceptical and DP's are horrified so have to convince them first I think, especially as they would be looking after DS1 and DS2. Food for thought.. Also need to make sure the MW can bring three or four cannisters of gas and air Grin

Did anyone take advantage on the Dorothy Perkins glitch that was reported on mumsnet last night? Two discount codes worked at the same time and there is a further offer on maternity trousers/leggings. It is great, maternity wardrobe is a little better stocked now Smile

ShellyBobbs · 12/04/2012 16:41

Do you know, all I can think about when pondering a homebirth is 'will my bedsheets be freshly washed that day'. I can imagine falling into bed and getting a right sniff of stale sweat then hit by day old lingering farts. Not really what you want after all that work Hmm

ShellyBobbs · 12/04/2012 16:41

The pong is my hubbies not mine by the way :)

NervousAt20 · 12/04/2012 17:02

Yeh yeh shellyBobbs of course it is Grin

WaitingForMe · 12/04/2012 17:07

I know a friend wanted a homebirth due to high infection rates at her hospital. I want the birth unit because I want as near a homebirth experience as possible.

My mum is struggling a bit at me having just a midwife team and no consultant so that is a big change since the 80s as I haven't had any friends want consultant led care.

If I was having more (baby will complete our family of me, DH, DSS1 and DSS2) I'd probably consider home birth if this one goes ok.

Thechick · 12/04/2012 17:11

chunkychicken there will be a 13 and a half year difference between ds1 and new baby.

Hey all, I can't imagine a home birth for me. I think it will be quite an amazing experience but, I don't think its for me. My first birth was so trumatic, thats kind of the reason there's such a big gap. I said never again and ment it, and I'm a wuss and can't deal with pain very well.

Stuntnun · 12/04/2012 17:20

DH21 my 12 week scan is on the 11th May as well so we can be scan buddies Grin

izzybizzybuzzybees · 12/04/2012 17:31

I took advantage of the glitch...a bit too much I think. Spent a small fortune, in fact nope just a fortune!

Victorious03 · 12/04/2012 17:56

Glitch?? Which can help with shopping?? Why have I not heard of this sooner Grin?

Is there any chance this is still happening, if so can you point me in the right direction please.
I have been looking to purchase a few maternity items as soon as possible.Grin

Chunkychicken · 12/04/2012 18:02

Ditto Victorious's post Grin

YellowWellies · 12/04/2012 18:04

Wow Bluetinkerbell you have been through an awful lot in the last year. V v sorry to hear about your DD - I had an early MC in Jan, which was bad enough - but 20 weeks - I cannot begin to imagine how devastating that must have been. Lovely to see you back here, and how very special this will make this little one of yours. Also glad to hear I'm not being entirely biased about my beautiful niece - she is a real treasure and is the smiliest child I've ever met. I'm just hoping that my much loved 'parasite' (really must think of a nicer nickname but at the mo' feel so drained!!!) doesn't try similar scare tactics as arriving at 27 weeks up here in Orkney would require the air ambulance.

As for boiled sweets - I don't boil them the sweetmaker does! Grin I think my babybrain is catching....

Wish I could feel movement - but with my doughy arse / gut - from too much craved food retention - am not sure I could feel it if I'd swallowed a toddler. Erk... at this rate will be in danger of being harpooned before I go into labour!

YellowWellies · 12/04/2012 18:05

Woo yes ditto to Victorious post! Linkys please ladies xx
