Trying not to sound like I'm moaning but has anyone else found that second time round people don't seem to be that excited about the baby?

No one else seems to bothered where as with DS everyone was excited and checking on mine and bumps progress, buying things, etc. This time I hardly get asked anything and noone seems bothered about how the checks and appointments are going.

Is it me being hormonal as I was on a bit of a down yesterday or has anyone else found this?

Thanks

OldieMum · 14/02/2006 09:37

Jersey, I have found this - but isn't that what one would expect? Perhaps people think that you are taking it all in your stride. If you do feel that you would like people to take more of an interest, perhaps you could drop a few hints. Good luck with your next appointment, anyway!

jom · 14/02/2006 09:39

Thanks for your welcomes, it feels good to be "out in the open" with my Mumsnet addiction!

Can everyone feel movement at the moment? I'm 18 weeks and haven't felt anything yet and an beginning to feel a little concerned as remember that I felt those fluttery feelings at 16 weeks with DS. I heard the heartbeat at 16 weeks when I had my bloodtests done and have been feeling well since and have no real reason to think anythings wrong but can't seem to get this out of my head.

pinkdolly · 14/02/2006 09:43

hi Jom, welcome to the group.

Jersey - I'm on my third and like you i think people have been less excited. apart from me that is, i keep checking up all the time on baby's progress and am just as excited now as I was with the other 2. I cant wait to be a mummy again.
people seem to really fuss over you the first time. But nener mind, just make sure you enjoy it.

Have a good day everyone, Kbaby the pics are lovely.

jersey · 14/02/2006 10:18

Thanks

I think I was just having a down day yesterday and everything seems a bit exagerated then.

OldieMum · 14/02/2006 10:20

Jom - why not contact your MW and have a chat about it? It might help to have your mind put at rest.

AggiePanther · 14/02/2006 10:36

Welcome Jom - yes I'm feeling movements, but don't worry if you aren't - if the baby is facing your back you'll feel less, also if your placenta is right at the front you'll feel less too apparently (because the baby kicks that rather than into you)
Jersey - everyone seems pretty excited with this baby, but that's probably because its 11 years since DD so everyone had given up on me I think!

Oh btw re weight gain - have put on an astounding 18lbs!! Most of it in first 10weeks when I was constantly grazing to stave off the nausea...not really put much on since then, but have been doing slimming world for past 2 weeks to make sure I don't get too lardy

Jersey I know what you mean. It took until I was 14 weeks for someone to ask me how I was feeling DH says he forgets im pregnant. One good thing is that at least the time is going quickly and im not counting down the days.
I feel almost as bad though because by now with DD I had bought a few outfits and this time I havent bought anything.

I had a card and cd of dh this morning but hs off to the gym tonight so no romantic meals.

jersey · 14/02/2006 11:48

Jom I get movements and then nothing for upto a week, so I think it is normal. With DS I was 20+ weeks before I felt anything. But he made up for it after that. I should have been black and blue!!!

maewest · 14/02/2006 11:56

Hi, took me a while to catch up as I haven't been on over the weekend. Have had a really horrible cold with accompanying chesty cough. By Thursday I decided to stop fighting it and get some rest so took time off sick, which was a bit of a relief actually. I'm staying at my parents for a few days as I had meeting in London yesterday and another one tomorrow. This means I miss valentines day, but prob more excited about my birthday next week to be honest. Also it was my gran's funeral on valentines day a couple of years ago and it kind of takes the shine off...

Now I'm starting to feel better again I can hopefull get back to 'blooming', as I was feeling pretty good before being struck down by the lurgy. I had blood taken for the Downs tests last friday, so have 2 week wait for them to come back.

Also, on a slightly embarrassing note, I read an article in the Observer on Sunday about postnatal depression and ended up sobbing my eyes out. I KNOW it is ridiculous to worry about something that may not happen, but I did suffer from clinical depression when I was younger, so think it had been niggling me a bit. Had a good chat and hug with dh and felt better about it.

Sorry, mega post - best wishes ladies with babies - maewest signing off...

bumpybel · 14/02/2006 14:16

Oooh loads of updates to read! Lovely.

Welcome Jom... i've become an MN addict since discovering this thread!I love it... makes you feel part of a nice cosy group!

Kbaby what fab photos. I'm such a nosy horse... were the wedding ones your wedding? Where did you tie the knot? I did it in the Coed Y Mwster nr Bridgend.

Jersey... how are you feeling today?... hows your bump growing? Have you bought any cute little clothes yet?(Bumpy transmits long distance interest showing, in Jerseys second baby!!!)

Hey spub, we are TWENTY WEEKS TODAY.... wahoo! Feeling quite chirpy with everything. Have got the step kids with us this week and they seem to have come round to the idea of having a new baby quite well, which is a relief.

AggieP sounds like youre having a rough time... hope you are getting lots of help around the house. It has reassured me to know that i'm not the only one who put on weight in first trimester!

Maewest... hope you feeling ok too... next valentines day will be sooo different for you! (.. and me!.. its going to be nuts having a baby!)I'm quite excited but also s**ting myself at idea of having to give birth first!

Hope everyones doing ok. Lots of love

spub · 14/02/2006 14:47

Hi guys!
Woo hoo! Yeah bumpy, 20 weeks! Hurrah! I have my scan tomorrow so may find out what flavour of baby this is. Honestly don't care but the anal retentive in me would like to know for "organisational purposes"!!
Jersey, yup 2nd and subsequent babies don't merit half the attention in utero. Think as was suggested, people reckon you can just get on with it!
Welcome Jom.
Aggie and Maewest - hope you're ok, too.
Hi to evertone else - I'm a dozy cow and don't always keep up

jersey · 14/02/2006 15:28

Hi thanks bumpy for you interest, you made me smile!! . Feeling a lot better thanks, have these downs now and again when everything gets blown out of proportion .

Have a couple of outfits but very little neutral out there so putting it off until we know what we are having. Got the fabric for mum to recover the moses basket as couldn't find any where selling new covers, and haven't time to make them myself. Now need to get DS new bedroom cleared and decorated so he can move rooms well before the new one arrives.

Thinking of a 4d scan, has anyone looked into these, e.g. are they safe?

Good luck for your scan spud let us know when you get back, so envious, roll on 14th march when its our turn.

kbaby · 14/02/2006 15:34

Bumpybel yes they were our wedding. We only got married in April last year. We married in vegas and went to hawaii for our honeymoon. Wed been together 12 years and even though I wanted the whole white wedding thing our finances would stretch so we compromised with the white wedding abroad instead.
Ive never been to coed - y- mwster but I remember getting brochures on it when we were looking. It looked really nice.

Ive just had some test results back from the amnio. So far theyve checked for Downs, Edwards and patersgers and baby is all in the clear. I am so relieved. Now we just have to wait for the others in 10 days.

jersey · 14/02/2006 15:42

Congrats kbaby on the good test results .

Your wedding photos looked lovely. We got married in 2003 in September at Elizabeth Castle in Jersey with photos on the beach, on a very hot day. We decided that as our familys where so far apart (distance) and each wanted us to get married in their location we would go somewhere neutral with just very close family and best friends.

Welcome jom

I never have time to reply to everyone even hough I would like to! I do read every post, and I love to hear how everyone is getting on.

You must be relieved about your results kbaby. And enjoy your scan spub

About movements - I felt heaps yesterday - it was really rumbling about, and I could even feel the movement with my hand on my bump. Today I haven't felt a thing!

HumphreysCorner · 14/02/2006 18:18

Wowee ladies-v. chatty today.

kbaby-really good news hun. Did you find out the sex? ((xx))

A big welcome to jom and congratulations on your pregnancy. ((xx))

I know there are many more July ladies out there because I have seen them on other threads so COME AND JOIN US !

maewest-you'll be fine hun. Having clinical depression doesn't neccessarily mean you will get PN depression but the Dr and HV will monitor you like they did me. I was determined to be OK and luckily I was and I'm sure you will be too. ((xx))

Not even a Valentine Card for me today. . At least my dad gave me some hyacinths.

spub-good luck with your scan. Mine is on Thursday but the shine has been taken off it due to the amnio scan but at least I will get some pictures. Please can someone be having a girl to make DH feel better. I can't get him to discuss names-all he says is Matthew when I ask. I have given him a choice of Sophie or Lucy but he tells me to shut up about it. Men!!!!!((xx))

Must go and get some tea but what I do not know.

Love and hugs to all and bye for now.

xxx

munz · 14/02/2006 18:43

quick hijack girls sorry! jersey just read ur message on our thread, rom's due the 8th march i'm the 3rd - so only 3/4 weeks left for each of us! can't wait till it's over and I can actually get comfy in bed! lol.

hope all's well with u and ur PG, as with the rest of u girls, hope u're all getting on well and the bump's arn't gettin too big, it'll soon be u guys with a few weeks left to go!

kbaby · 14/02/2006 19:19

DH wont let me find out the sex but HC my list of girls names is double that of boys so far I have;
Bethan, Caitlin, Grace, sabelle, Lily, Lucy, Madeleine, Olivia, Scarlett, Phoebe, Alice, may

Boys are
Jack, James, Eliiot, Zack and Ben

DH doesnt like any of the names so far.

maewest, I had antenatal depression with DD last time and dreaded getting postnatal but luckily I was fine. Im hoping I dont develop antenatal depression this time but at least i know the signs and plan on getting treatment asap if needed. Im sure you will be fine and one depression doesnt mean youll get postnatal.

AggiePanther · 14/02/2006 21:17

Good news kbaby
Evening ladies and good luck to all of you having scans and blood tests.
Mae west I'm sure you'll be fine ...also I think it's normal at this stage to be really emotional there are so many hormones swishing about that we'll get tearful about day to day stuff let alone stuff that worries us...
I went to see mamma mia at the weekend and cried the whole way through and I mean the WHOLE way..from the minute the orchestra started the overture to the standing in the aisles at the end ...there was one bit which was actually meant to be sad and for that bit I was literally sobbing...great heaving shaking snotty sobs ...so embarrassing. Great show though - loved it!

Kbaby - nice names.
Aggie - I also cried all the way through Mama Mia and I wasn't even pg at the time! The "slipping through my fingers" bit really choked me cos I kept thinking about how one day my dd wouldn't need me any more and that was it, blub city!!
Kayzed - me and DH sat watching American Psycho in a cinema in San Diego absolutely pissing ourselves with lauhter. No one else laughed at all and we could tell that they thought we were totally sick!
HC - I know the whole amnio situation has been really stressful and awful but I hope you do enjoy your scan tomorrow. Mine's at 10.30 today so I'll check back in. Hope to find out the sex and I will tell you!
Have a good one!

jersey · 15/02/2006 09:14

Thanks munz saw you on another thread and thought you 2 must be close now .

Love the names kbaby, luckly we have already decided on a girls and a boys name as they where on our list from last time.

Its Grace Ann for a girl (DH choice on first name) and Daniel Morley for a boy (my choice on first name). Wanted Daniel last time but someone else got there just before us so decided that I wanted it this time . Second names are family names on DH side. We decided as DH wanted Grace and nothing else that if a boy I get my choice of first name and if a girl DH gets his choice.

Last time round whe choose 3 different names and then went off them before we got to Joseph DS's name. I don't know why but we never had a problem with girls names.

Goodluck spud for today, and HC for tomorrow with your scans, I'm sure it will still be exciting to see your daughter again.

My posts seem to be getting longer!!!

Wallace · 15/02/2006 12:47

Those are lovely names. If ours is a girl she will be Daisy May. Daisy was dh's granny, and May is my middle name. As for a boy - not a clue! I like Leo, but dh doesn't.
