cor that's a timely post HC, as I have clean forgotten to book in my 16 week midwife appt, so have just done it and will be 18 weeks when I go. That's okay isn't it?

Hello all new comers, welcome welcome.

Can you please come round and do my ironing HC? It's all there ready for you, I make a mean cuppa, and I won't talk over Desperate Housewives. If not I will have to knuckle down and at least do DS's tonight as otherwise he will be in pyjamas all weekend, have completely run out of clothes for him until I iron somemore.

Do you know girls I think I might be blooming well blooming? Feel fine, tiredness not too bad till bed time, no sickness, no headaches....HOWEVER - major spots, piles and increased cellulite, is that too much information?

17 + 2 today.

heartinthecountry · 17/02/2006 13:04

That's a good point. Will be 18 weeks tomorrow and haven't seen a midwife since about 8 weeks. Am I supposed to have booked it or should they have sent me an appointment? Honestly, even 2nd time around I don't know what i am doing!

jersey · 17/02/2006 13:35

HITC I was told to book my 15 week after I had my 12 week scan. Don't know if thats the same with you?

My next one is when I am 20 weeks.

HTH

IamBlossom · 17/02/2006 14:24

it's written in my white book to book an appt for 16 weeks - but of course i don't read my white book regularly/at all. only realised i needed to book one cos my sis has just had hers...........

I know my sisters think I am well anal ironing DS's clothes. Wait till Ihave two, then I won't be so fussy.

maewest · 17/02/2006 19:12

I gave up ironing years ago, I put all shirts on hangers to minimise creases and just live with the crinkles! DH likes to have a nicely ironed shirt for work... so he does his own. I have been known to pick up an iron, but has to be for a pretty important occasion - job interview/wedding/funeral etc.

Appts - had booking at about 12 wks, one at 16, scan booked for 19 wks, then next appt for 21 wks. I was told that for 1st time mums that we get seen roughly every 4 weeks up to 28, then it gets more regular. And my mw makes the next appt each time I go, so don't have to remember to book!

17 wks exactly today!

jom · 17/02/2006 19:57

Seems the appointment thingy varies depending where you live. My first appointment with my midwife was at 13 weeks, after my 12 week scan. I was given a list of all my appointments then stating where they were and with whom. This is my second but as my first was born in Australia I've got no idea how it all works here (although it seems pretty similar) I just ask lots of questions!

Iamblossom -I was beginning to have problems with piles quite early on which I (luckily)didn't really experience with DS and read somewhere that apart from making sure your diet is pretty good which mine is the best things to do are drink lots of water and do regular exercise. I immediately started drinking lots of water (2 litres a day) and picked up my exercise (not as regularly as I'd like - but better than I was) and everything changed - literally overnight. I think the water is the main thing because I'm pretty active anyway despite not always doing regular excercise. Hope this helps.

Has anyone got a good system for remembering to do pelvic floor exercises? Something I'm not so good at.

kbaby · 17/02/2006 20:01

kayzed with dd I started having painful bh at around 23 weeks. I was in hosp overnight because they thought they were contractions but luckily nothing else developed although I continued to get bh right through until 40 weeks esp bad if I over did it during the day. At least you can be reassured that the hosp has checked out out.

Feeling terrible at the moment, between the headaches, ear ache and general tiredness as DD wakes me up at 2am singing or talking to herself I could do with a good rest, it feels like I was never off work. Im hoping to book in for a nice indian head massage after pay day to hopefully relax me.

At my 12 week scan they gave us a date for the 20 week scan, a date for the 16 weeks blood and also a date for 41weeks if im over. The midwifes also booked a 24 week appointment. The hospital seem quite organised.

17 weeks today

usandbump · 17/02/2006 20:51

Looks like appointment systems vary, in my area we also don't get a 12 week scan just the one at 20 wks. Think I will phone next week for a midwife appointment maybe it is down to me to make the appointment but someone forgot to tell me!
Have been feeling definite kicks this week even saw my tummy move for the first time last night - so exciting! Dp missed it coz he was too busy watching Prince on the Brits!
Anyone have any suggestions for a middle name that goes with the first name Zack? Zack was the first name we both said we liked and we think we will stick with it but can't come up with a middle name, desperately trying to avoid family tradition of Norman

AggiePanther · 17/02/2006 20:58

Welcome mumtwobe ..I'm going to find out this time but didn't last time..personal preference I guess
usandbump ..here we get seen every 4 weeks (from about 8/9 wks) although the 12 and 20 wk scans count as appointments. Had to arrange 16wks appt myself though.
Hope you feeling better soon kbaby xx
HC ..I don't iron either..well i will if its really crumpled and I need to wear it but nothing gets ironed before being put away ..am such a slob

USANDBUMP WHATS THE SURNAME LIKE.
You could have Zack Evan, Zack Lewis.

I quite like the name Eve for a girl but our surname is Owen and DH said if shes not a petite little girl then in school they would call her 'Heave O' Also like Ben but it reminds DH of too many rude movies with Ben dover in and he thought it was too similar.

LOL Kbaby

surname is Parker, still giggling over your Dh you have to be so careful dont you?!

bumpybel · 17/02/2006 21:41

Evening everyone and big welcomes to deblaca and mumtwobe!

Kayzed, glad everything checked out ok at the docs. Sounded frightening.
HC your orange wee could be dehydration (?) My early morning wee is normally horrifically dark and tropical squash coloured!

Iamblosom I'm sorry but I laughed at your 'spots. piles and cellulite' comment!! I've always had disgusting orange peel cellulite on thighs (typical jodhpur type thighs!), so I dont feel sorry for you on that front!!! I'm getting little white spots on the tops of my arms which is quite odd.

While everyones mentioning stuff like that and pelvic floor excercises, I'll add my two pwnce worth. I went to aqua natal this morning and the midwife had us doing them in the pool. Its not something i'd recommend in the water as i felt as if i'd sucked half the pool water unto my bits by the end of it (nice!!!) and spent the rest of the day leaking chloriney water! Midwife said to do them after a wee is best.

Usandbump... laughed at Norman too!!! (sorry if anyone has chosen that... no offence intended!!)My DH has got a history of Brians in the family!! I have determinedly said that we are going for something fresh! You could have Zach.. William/ Jonathan/ Stuart... something two or three syllabled...

I've felt loads of twitching and fluttering this week, but nothing yesterday or today. Felt knackered yesterday and midwife said that if you're knackered that might be why not feeling any movement. Am desperately trying to relax to encourage more movement.

Pleased to hear about Jamiesam, HC. Is she on antenatal thread?

Night all xxxx

usandbump · 17/02/2006 21:49

Ooh really like Zack William will mention it to Dp tomorrow.

Brian no-one could be so mean

Now I have been trying to do my pelvic floors but only manage a few before I start feeling really crampy and uncomfortable. Someone suggested doing them everytime you fix yourself a drink but feel so uncomfortable afterwards I don't enjoy my cuppa!

deblaca · 17/02/2006 22:08

lol here also - KBABY

i guess the appts do differ from place to place but according to my "maternity services guide" its 10-12 bkg - 16 mw (or obs) - 22 mw - 26 mw or obs - 30 mw - 34 mw - 37 mw - 39 mw - 40 mw with scans at 12 and 20 weeks ....... my mw made the next two appts at my bkg, but i rang them to bring forward the 22 week appointment (actually made for 23 wks) because i was too anxious to wait a full 6 weeks between appointments, so i have that next thursday .... i do what JOM does and ask lots of questions

btw my iron hasn't seen the light of day for many a month - one of the benefits of maternity clothes - stretchy - will i have to become more tidy once i'm a mum?

usandbump - like the name - simple and strong - i guess the good thing is you can go with either way with the middle name

20 weeks tomorrow!

deblaca · 17/02/2006 22:16

my dad's name was brian and would love to name a son after him but couldn't bring myself -

bumpybel - we do pelvic floor at our aqua also but it always feels like i want to wee - not nice!

so like usandbump any hints to remember welcomed

bumpybel · 17/02/2006 22:25

Ha! Usandbumnp gets bitten on tail by cruel Brian p*ss taking! I think its more of a dads type name anyway deblaca!!

William is my first choice for boys name... after Norman of course!

HumphreysCorner · 17/02/2006 22:29

Open door, pelvic floor!

Night all

xxx

bumpybel · 17/02/2006 22:29

I'm feeling like a good old roaring laugh about something... but theres only pants stuff on telly and DH is engrossed in rugby!

Feel ever so slightly insane!

lilianna · 17/02/2006 22:43

hi. anyone thought of names yet? i have a girls name already but really want Timothy if its a boy can anyone think of middle names to go with this first name. Thank you and i hope everyone is doing well.

agalch · 18/02/2006 06:55

Morning everyone
Hope you are all feeling good. I am 17+3 today.Got my AFP results yesterday and it says low risk and no further action needed so thats a relief. One of my mindees(i'm a childminder) left yesterday so thats a relief too as she was just beginning the tantrums etc so life will be a little easier in this house(for a while anyway). Can't believe how many posts there is when you don't check in for a few days.I won't be finding out the sex of my baby cos they don't offer a sexing scan up in Scotland.Although a little part of me is always curious i like the surprise at the end.Anyway take care of yourselves and your bumps and have a good weekend.

usandbump · 18/02/2006 07:21

oops sorry deblaca

My new mantra 'open door....' See if I last today

Excellent news about your results Agalch, what a relief and what a good reason to treat yourselves this weekend

Okay Timothy....James
Lawrence
Alex
Andrew
Daniel
Lewis
Brian
Norman

In all seriousness I would like to keep the tradition going but NORMAN! Zack Norman...... Zack William Norman........ it just doesn't work it spoils the whole feel of our chosen name Just going to have to put my foot down And as my sister reminded me he isn't the first born grandson so really it should have been used the frist time round.

spub · 18/02/2006 07:30

Hi all!
Aggie - off to a mate's 40th tonight; loads of ABBA but all the disco stuff so no tears!
Jersey, Thx for kind message. I didn't do the needle test!
Pink - Hope your head is better and thx for the conrgats.
Kayzed - glad all well. Let downs! Breast pads at the ready?
HC - hope you are well. Bright orange wee? No idea - mine is pale and cloudy! Personally, I wouldn't mind a houseful of girls. I'm viewing this boy as an "experiment"! Plus, as Aggie pointed out it's your DH and not you that's the deciding factor! It is lovely news re Jamiesam, isn't it?
Welcome Deblaca - we're due arund the same time.
Us and bumo - thx, too. I have no midwife apointments organised yet. Must phone and check!
Mumtwobe - welcome. Up to you about finding out the sex - depends if you can bear the suspense...I couldn't!
IamBlossom - ROFL at your "bloom" - I also have piles!
Kbaby - hope your massage was gorgeous. Sounds
fab.
Us - re boy's names - Parker is a good surname for most names except for Peter, maybe!
Algach - fab news re AFP. BTW, I'm in Scotland and found out the sex both times. You may just have to work your magic with the sonographer!
Have a good one, everyone!
