Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm with thechick on the buying stuff issue. Nowt here is going to be bought until at least the 12 week scan. And no it's not about jinxing anything but I know I would find a MC even more devastating if the house were full of baby stuff, which apparently was the reason for the old tradition of not keeping the crib in the house until the baby arrives. Which makes sense to me. I felt awful when my sister went into premature labour with her wee girl (at 27 weeks) thinking of all of the things I'd bought her lying around the house and reminding my sister if the worst happened, (which very very thankfully it didn't). Also it doesn't feel real yet.

Our poor wee one is going to get pretty much 99% hand-me-downs as my twin sister has one of each - so basically we have a full wardrobe for either sex. We've also got a bedside crib (we'll get a new mattress) coming from her for the first six months (am going to try to BF), a sling, highchair. Most stuff really - I feel very lucky as it means we can focus on finishing the house (carpets would be nice!) before life turns into a ball of chaos. I think it's only a car seat and a pushchair that we'll need to actually buy. Lets hope the little one isn't fashion conscious as Mummy is from Yorkshire and my favourite phrase when looking at baby stuff is 'how much?!' Does this make me mean? Blush

Oh no thereistheball diabetes - poor you! Good thing they spotted it early though. Take care of yourself x

FoofFighter · 23/03/2012 15:05

bloody hell thereistheball didn't know you could get GD this early on?? 3 slices of bread on it's on really doesn't sound right to me, I thought that it was important to combine with protein/fat?

Peaky1 · 23/03/2012 15:30

thereistheball - Poor you! I don't have a clue about gestational diabetes. What led them to test for it?

As for buying stuff. I think I'm still quite overwhelmed with my first pregnancy. I read all your stuff about prams and my brain just shuts down! Mind you, I'm a full time children's physio but I'm also in the RAF Reserves. I'm right in the middle of my phase 2 trade training course and have lots of exams and a big 2 week exercise coming up in April (weeks 12 and 13, can you effing believe it). It's kind of helped really because I've got the pregnancy on my mind (ok...more like the extreme concentration on NOT vomiting) and all the revision I have to do. I'm at the RAF this weekend and have 2 exams. For the first time ever I cannot WAIT until Monday!

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/03/2012 15:33

I hope chickenspots is ok, wasn't she having a scan today?

thereistheball sorry about the diabetes that's rubbish. I don't know much about it either, will it go once the baby is born?

ValiumQueen · 23/03/2012 15:59

Oh bother thereistheball

Peaky1 are you 'allowed' to do a RAF exercise up the duff? Sounds a bit arduous to me Hmm

Evilwater · 23/03/2012 16:11

Sorry to whinge but today is the first day I've not vomited. Brilliant, and here is the but....
I've caught a cold, and the doctor said paratemol was linked for babies having a high risk of asthma.

So I'm sat with a box of tissues, and Vaseline because my nose is so sore.
Ew

NervousAt20 · 23/03/2012 16:12

thereistheball I hope your okay and just keep postitve at least they've caught it earlier and you can your baby can get the right care.

FoofFighter · 23/03/2012 16:16

EW here www.nhs.uk/news/2011/03March/Pages/paracetamol-pregnancy-asthma-link.aspx seems to suggest it's still safe to take in pregnancy as lots of other factors come into play with asthma in children.

Anyone know what time Chickenspots was in for the scan?

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/03/2012 16:23

Not sure but she hasn't posted to say how she's doing or anything so really hope shes ok.

applepieinthesky · 23/03/2012 16:32

Fingers crossed she's ok

Thechick · 23/03/2012 16:33

Hello ladies, I love this list. Its great to get an overview of so many different people with their own opinions and wot not, not sure if there is anything else like it. NervousAt20 hearing all of your stories, I know that I am very lucky not having any major symptoms, but it would be nice to know there is something going on. I'm sure the ladies that can't keep anything down are just wanting me to be quiet right now lol!! But this was exactly what it was like with my ds. I just had a 3 day labour and a cs to make up for it. There's so much info that I want to reply to but I can't think.

Ummm, when the time comes I would like to find out the sex because thats the only thing you can find out about this thing that you are growing inside of you. I felt that it helped me to bond and it not be so alien.

Belgrano · 23/03/2012 16:34

Thereistheball, sorry about your diabetes news, that's really early to know, I hope you are ok. And thoughts for chickenspots.

My jeans are on hair bobbles too. And I have a rounded old tum already. Had booking appt yesterday. All v straightforward. 8 wks+2 days now.

Does anyone know if it is ok to have your hair dyed when you are pregnant? I had a slightly disastrous attempt at lightening mine which was actually round about the time I conceived (I really hope that the baby is ok and wasn't affected by all that painfully strong bleach - am thinking it wouldn't have been implanted yet - fingers crossed). Anyway I've found a good hairdresser and I need to fix it. I would love to do so before the holiday we are going on in 2 weeks.

Is it ok to get a semi-permanent rinse and some permanent highlights done please anyone???

FoofFighter · 23/03/2012 16:39

Dying hair is fine as long as you do your patch tests, don't rely on them having been fine before as pregnancy will obv changes hormones so you could react to soemthing you hadn't before :)

applepieinthesky · 23/03/2012 16:42

Belgrano a lady I work with is also pregnant and she told me yesterday she asked her midwife about dying her hair during pregnancy and the midwife said it is fine. Apparently it is not something they are concerned about anymore.

thereistheball · 23/03/2012 17:13

To those who asked: you can't really get gestational diabetes at this stage, I don't think. What they seem to be saying is that I developed Type 2 before I got pregnant. But they need more information, hence the monitoring. I need to eat every two hours at the moment and the diet they have put me on certainly doesn't allow that. I will give it a go. It's a pisser though.

Brockle · 23/03/2012 17:25

Hello ladies! Wish I had a bump already, standing on the train and feeling resentful Envy thereistheball sorry to hear about the GD but at least they found it early. I am sure they will take extra care and it does go after birth.

Well this is DC3 so an awful lot of handmedowns. Just need a new stroller so will prob get one suitable for newborns so I can whip it out for the school run. Hoping I can borrow my SILs Moby wrap as well. Have two DSs so will be wellcatered a for boy or a tomboy girl!

Think I may just sit down and give evils at everyone sitting in seats!

Oh and DH21 I am with you on the orgasm front Grin candypop I am exactly the same. Symptoms have died down and not feeling much different other than the bust size and looking four months pregnant after six o clock.

Hop this doesn't post twice like last time sorry! Right I am sitting down before my feet gives in or nicking the seat from the man that went to the loo..

Peaky1 · 23/03/2012 17:51

ValiumQueen - Haha yes it is fine. I won't be running around the woods and throwing myself on the floor with a rifle (passed that test already) and I won't be flying anywhere. The exercise regime I have right now is more vigorous than what I'd be doing there! However, long hours and brain power required so I might be flecked anyway.

FoofFighter · 23/03/2012 18:03

I think as long as you are fit and already at a high level with exercise that it's fine for the first while. My DD ran the Sport Relief Mile today - at 19 weeks pregnant!

Peaky1 · 23/03/2012 18:09

Yeah, exercise is absolutely fine. In fact they encourage it within reason i.e. don't start running if you weren't a keen runner before you got pregnant and listen to your body. Don't push yourself to the point of overheating and significant fatigue. Lots of women keep up their running until late pregnancy (I can't see that happening for me but I'll damn well try!) I plan on doing some aqua aerobics, that looks like loads of fun and my sister can join me!

NervousAt20 · 23/03/2012 18:41

I was thinking about taking up swimming and sure that I've heard it's one of the best exercises to do when pregnant but will double check before

Stuntnun · 23/03/2012 18:43

I've been rushing round all afternoon running errands and shopping etc. and now my lower back is sore and I have sharp pains in my lower abdomen. Is anyone else having problems like this? I feel like I'm injuring myself but I wasn't doing anything I couldn't have done pre-pregnancy.

FoofFighter · 23/03/2012 18:49

I am but then I do have a damaged disc so hard to tell what's normal and what's pregnancy! Also factoring in that Ive not been taking my anti inflams, tranqs, opiates etc!
