We have the option of home births, birth centre or big hospital here. I've chosen birth centre although the birth centre has two mw who man it 'office hours ish' then the county's mw work an on call system. So theoretically I have 8 miles to travel to birth centre to meet mw who may be even further than that away. One of my friends daughter gave birth at home instead of birth centre cause mw came and saw her, said she'd be ages so left and she wasn't ages!
I was almost keen to go to big hospital just so i'd give birth in the location I chose rather than at home with only my dh there.
I'm not a water person so didn't want water birth anyway.

I was rather eager to get shopping kept seeing bargains!! I bought my pram months ago second hand I think we have all the big furniture items either sorted or on order, we just need to get new mattresses, towels and bedding and more clothes, more nappies.

CaptainHetty · 03/05/2012 09:31

Home-made mobile is a great idea, might look into doing that as well. Might keep me occupied long enough to stop me impulse buying baby things on a whim :o

I've developed a rather large collection of reusable nappies already. Fuzzi Bunz and Totsbots are my favourite.... I have a favourite nappy. I need to get out more Blush

GizzyBoo · 03/05/2012 11:23

Hetty I have been thinking about reusable nappies but I fear I am just too lazy Blush I know I should but I really don't know if it is something I would keep up with.

Derp. Think my profile and photos are visible now? Grin CapnHetty, if you're feeling crafty, I got my techniques from here and my inspiration from here.

Just bought a second hand futon, and when we were picking it up, we said it was because the spare room was becoming a nursery, and promptly got shown the second hand pram/buggy/wheels and moses basket that she was thinking about selling too! Quite tempted by the wheels (it's a Phil & Ted Sport, so nice big wheels, turns on a sixpence and goes from totally flat with a carry cot insert up to toddler size plus a spare seat for the back just in case we have another one...), just waiting for her to decide how much she wants. Not only was it quite a nice set up, it'd save actually thinking about the vast array of expensive choices out there!

GizzyBoo · 03/05/2012 11:27

Fab creations Pinpan and your scan picture is beautiful. It is so clear too Smile

The buggy sounds fab. And would sure take away a lot of stress from the endless choice out there.

I have just put the washing out and have really sore BH now. This is normal isn't it?? I have been having them for a couple of weeks but if I do anything that involves stretching or carrying anything heavy they can be quite sore. I guess my poor uterus is just feeling a bit over used this being #4 and all.

Hello All. Winnie I am so pleased you have had good news at long last.

DD had her birthday party last Sunday. I think it went well. Everyone was happy and the cake I made looked good. The house now looks like a toy explosion went off. I don't know where to put all her presents.

I will be avoiding buying any new baby things - we have everthing in the loft still. The first pram we used was a Mamas & Papas travel system that we were given second hand from a friend. It is still in really good condition. We did not use the standard push chair attachment for it at all, just the car seat and carry cot. When DD was 13 weeks I took her to Australia to stay with my mum for 5 weeks. I bought a Maclaren XT because I need something with an umbrella fold for the flight. I added a fleece liner and DD was as comfortable in this as the M&P so that went in the loft never to reappear again.

With DD, I was planning to use the MW-led unit at the local hospital. I was told I could also have a water birth. DD had other ideas though and I ended up with an emergency c-section. I am hoping to have a nice, calm, planned elcs this time.

CaptainHetty · 03/05/2012 11:48

Gizzy I find it works quite well if I stick a wash on once an evening and hang them up overnight, they're usually dry by morning in the airing cupboard. Even better in the summer months, they dry in a couple of hours outside and the sunshine keeps them nice and white. I'll probably use disposables in hospital though, save me lugging home dirty nappies to wash :o

Your creations are lovely, pinpan , bookmarked both those sites and will busy myself with some sewing over the weekend rather than Ebaying stuff I don't need :o Also, your scan picture is lovely! It's so clear!

Fantastic news winnie what a relief! I think I think I may have felt bubs wiggle a bit this morning! I do hope so, my 20 week scan (next week!) just can't come quick enough! I was on a training course in central London yesterday and am pleased to report that commuters were very quick to leap out of their seats at the site of my Baby on Board badge, much quicker than the curmudgeonly lot I normally commute with on an overland train.

We are not finding out the sex and we are planning a home water birth. I've already bought a birthing pool off ebay! DD was a waterbirth at a standalone MLU and it was lovely, a very powerful and enriching experience so hopefully we'll have just as straightforward time of it again.

Pezzina · 03/05/2012 16:44

Hello lovely ladies. I have been very slack at writing on here, although I have tried to keep up with everyone's news. So glad you have finally been given good news Winnie. Now you can relax and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy!

Our house move is coming along swiftly - our move date is 16 May, which is also the date of my DH's 40th birthday. Excited and stressed at the same time as I'm also organising a surprise party for DH the weekend before and we go on holiday the weekend after - so lots going on.

Feeling 'Junior' move every day now - such a lovely feeling Smile

My 20 week scan is on 14th May and I really want to find out the sex. I have such a strong feeling I am having a boy and I want to find out for sure. DH is not so keen but I think he will go along with it on the day - will have to see.

In relation to the birth - I had a water birth with DD and it was lovely - up to the point she got stuck and then it was a bit of a blur as they pulled me out and whisked me into another room for a ventouse delivery. Would consider a water birth again though as it was really relaxing and the MW did say that next time the baby shouldn't get stuck.

Well, enough of my ramblings for now. Will try to write more frequently in between the continuous packing that has become my life at the moment.

xx

Bubblebell1 · 03/05/2012 18:56

Hi girls.

Hope your all well. I'm feeling pretty naff.
I have bronchitis and an infection in my jaw Sad. In so much pain but tying to just use paracetamol at bedtime.

I'm not feeling so many movements sobi checked with my Doppler and baby seems to be fine. Must be my anteria placenta stopping me from feeling her.

Littleplasticpeople · 03/05/2012 19:27

I'm rubbish at posting on this thread but have been following. winnie pleased you had positive news.
bubble sorry you are feeling rubbish, hope you are able to rest.

I'm trying not to get too worried about the fact that I was feeling movements (albeit very occasional and slight) but haven't felt anything for the past few days. was definitely feeling moments in my other pregnancies by this stage (18 weeks tomorrow ).

I am hoping to have a (third) home birth. I live in an area with fairly high rates and have only ever had encouragement from the midwives. Can't comment on water births though. I was meant to have one with my first but the pool only had a puddle of water in it by the time ds popped out- birth pools take longer to fill than my babies take to arrive Grin

Littleplasticpeople · 03/05/2012 19:28

*movements, not moments!

Pheebs24 · 03/05/2012 21:54

Hi all, good to catch up - I've been feeling so much better since the MS stopped that I've actually been doing stuff!

Glad not to be alone in the not feeling anything other than the odd twinge and cramp, mum keeps asking and since she was in the room when the sonographer told me what I'd felt to date was my bowels I'm surprised she keeps asking - I clearly have no idea!!

Keeping my fingers crossed that DH might be home in a few days, but trying not to get my hopes up - he's only been gone 6 weeks or so and will want to do a few more weeks. TBH I feel mean wanting him home so much when he's trying to earn enough to get plenty for the baby...

I did have some good news this week though Grin my bessie mate is also expecting!! I'm soooo thrilled about it!! We'll be two fat ladies together - yay Grin

Also a question - is anyone wearing those hidden support vests (the inner shelf type) and are they good enought suport-wise? I hate my non-wire bras so much I'm thinking I might try the vests instead Hmm

newtonupontheheath · 04/05/2012 11:14

Pinpan your scan picture is amazing!! How clear is that?!

Nice to hear from everybody that has been lurking, I go through phases myself of posting/lurking depending how I'm feeling and how much work I have on. It'd be nice to still keep up with the threads after baby is born. I drifted off towards the end of my last pregnancy but hope to do better this time!

My IO order STILL hadn't arrived when I left this morning. I'm getting really pee'd off now Angry

pinpan · 04/05/2012 12:32

It is a nice scan, isn't it? Grin Getting kicked quite a lot every day now - mostly late afternoon and then late evening. Does this mean she'll be an evening creature when she joins the real world? (And I can stay in bed all morning...)

Glad to make it to the weekend, it felt like a long week. Hope you all have a good one!

CaptainHetty · 04/05/2012 14:46

We'll need another new thread soon :o

I'm 18+5 today and the amount of movement I'm feeling all of a sudden over the last couple of days is astonishing. Flump really likes fidgeting when I'm doing yoga, for some reason... Either that or I'm just feeling it more then because I'm relaxed.

Also, back on the subject of hand made mobiles, I found this made using embroidery hoops (which I don't own, but are quite cheap to get hold of) and thought it looked quite sweet.

Nice to see some of you back, sometimes I lurk as well if I don't really have much of any relevance to say, it's nice just to read other people's good news and stuff sometimes :o

MakeTeaNotWar · 04/05/2012 14:51

Envy at movement. But 20 week scan in less than a week, hurrah!

Is anyone also doubling up on the other Oct 12 thread? I feel comfy here Smile but I don't want to miss any news!

CaptainHetty · 04/05/2012 14:55

I wasn't even aware there was another thread until it popped up on the Active threads this morning. I wondered if I should pop in and say hello to them as well, but I'm actually not sure I'd keep up with two threads anyway, and I'd probably just end up seeming antisocial!

Guccigirl79 · 04/05/2012 21:21

Hi Maketea nice to see you on here :)

Thanks for the info Newton I've decided not to go for it in the end it seemed a little flimsy if I'm honest even though it was perfect heightwise for DP (he's 6ft6"!!) Also went to look at more yesterday & my brain is suitably fried on the subject now lol

Not much else going on otherwise,no movement yet though only 16+5 & this is my first so maybe still bit early perhaps??

pinpan · 04/05/2012 22:41

Oooh, I like the embroidery hoop mobile, CapnHetty. I'm of the opinion that mobiles are like scarves - you can never have too many! My mum says I had at least 3 in my room when I was a baby. Grin

I'm going to stick with one October thread I think - I can remember who you all are now (and you're all nice) and my baby-addled brain can't cope with a whole other set of people. Wink

Right, off for some baby tourism at the few places in town we haven't yet explored...

newtonupontheheath · 04/05/2012 22:44

Phew!

Been out this evening with a couple of friends for a wander round the Trafford centre and a bite to eat. Feel really tired now though!

We were chatting about weddings, mine (argh!) and my friends...which is two weeks before my due date and about 300 miles away!! We're still going, it's very posh and we're very excited, but I will also be very pregnant Blush

MakeTeaNotWar · 05/05/2012 12:56

SO Boots have a 3-for-2 on Baby stuff and with free home delivery on over £40, I just ordered a lot of nappies! They work out at less than 10p each which is a bargain. Also ordered maternity pads (12 packets!), Arnica tablets and tea tree and lavender oils for post-birth baths. I know I am getting waaaay ahead of myself but I thought I'd swoop while the price is right plus I guess it's my little way of keeping on top of this pregnancy? How can I make Thursday come round quicker to make sure Bean is all well...?

Have good long weekends all x

Emmiedarling · 05/05/2012 14:58

I haven't bought a thing yet. Its not that I haven't been looking, (since bed rest began, I've done little else) I think, because this is my first, I want to make sure in getting the 'best' of everything. From a baby bath to nappies. I think I may be getting a tad obsessed with reviews!! There is just SO much conflicting information!

How many nappies does one need for the home coming?!
Oh god! I don't have a clue!!! ;)

newtonupontheheath · 05/05/2012 15:20

Oh god. Nappies! I've got one pack of huggies newborn (thanks to free voucher in bounty pack!) and some newborn pampers from some welcome kit I got through the post Grin I have to buy more but that can wait or I'll send DP when baby is born

Re baby baths...we've never had one. Bought a cheap washing up bowl for ds and bathed him in that in the living room til he got too big. Then he had his baths with me as it was the only way I could get my bath in relative peace!! Certainly won't be buying one this time either... My advice (if you were asking Wink ) would be to save your money buy yourself something pretty instead Grin
