elvis, I'm in NZ - the nearest Ikea is in Australia, some 2000 km away, and I don't even want to hazard a guess as to the nearest M&S. Maybe in Hong Kong?

Incidentally, I put our latest name shortlist on the baby names thread - see what you think! Thread here Not sure DH was totally serious about Thor...

MakeTeaNotWar · 31/03/2012 13:40

Are you or DH Kiwi then pinpan? Where are you? We had a wonderful holiday there in Feb, went to a friend's wedding & got my BFB in the loos of Heathrow T3! Slightly Envy that the wedding was at a vineyard though. We took DD who was 17 months at the time, stopping off at the Cook Islands on the way back, paradise! It was a very different trip from our first time in NZ 10 years ago as beer-hunting backpackers!

RnB · 31/03/2012 16:16

pinpan Iove Rufus, Magnus and Benedict on your list (my oldest is Benedict Smile)

MissPenteuth · 31/03/2012 19:38

Hi all, just popping in to say that 12w scan this morning went well, everything looks as expected. DH and I both said afterwards that we thought it looked like a boy, but we'll see. Booked 20w scan in May so hopefully we'll find out then :) I've hardly slept the past 2 nights, maybe tonight I can finally relax!

Guccigirl79 · 31/03/2012 21:15

Congrats MissPenteuth on your successful scan :) Bet you cant wait to find out for sure what the sex is!! Put your feet up for the evening you deserve it :)

pinpan · 31/03/2012 22:37

That's great, MissPenteuth. I can't wait for my next scan either!

MakeTea, we're both English - came out here 3 years ago on a 2 year contract and ended up staying. We're just outside of Christchurch, but managed to avoid the worst of the earthquake damage. I'm a great fan of the vineyards too! DH gave me a crate of Forrest wine for Christmas, and we only got through two bottles before having to cease fire. I shall make up for it in due course...

MakeTeaNotWar · 01/04/2012 09:12

Made the lemon cake - my god it's good, just had a fat slice with tea for breakfast & am eyeing it up for more!

GizzyBoo · 01/04/2012 11:56

I think I need to make lemon cake.....
Just emptied the chook house of eggs.....8 this morning Grin best get baking Grin

Fab news on the scans everyone ....we really are rolling now. It's all so exciting Grin

Gonna have a lazy day I think. Have cleaned out the chooks and done the recycling, cleaned the kitchen and done a couple of loads of washing. An afternoon in the bath with good book and a lime and soda I think Grin

Mmm lemon cake sounds good!
I've just got in from my nieces christening and am trying to decide which tier of her cake is my favourite...vanilla or chocolate sponge?? One piece was supposed to be for DP but by the time he gets home I doubt there will be any left!

Whilst me and DS went to church, DP has gone to see his mum in hospital. She's got dvt and some sort of bug that he's picked up in there Sad DP's family are so lost without her buzzing around the kitchen, so hoping she's not in much longer.

Haven't yet told the rest of my family about the baby, as was waiting to get this christening out of the way. But now it's done I don't know whether to keep it quiet just a couple of weeks longer! Has everybody told everybody yet??

pinpan · 01/04/2012 20:38

Lemon cake for breakfast? Outrageous! (And an excellent idea...)

Hope your DP's mum feels better soon, newton.

I haven't told everyone yet - mainly I haven't told facebook! - but I've told most people that I am friends with, and I expect the grapevine to do the rest for me in due course (or that I'll just start looking really fat Grin instead of my current, ambiguous, "slightly too much pie?" waistline). Haven't told quite all the people who I work with because I want to make plans for what will happen in my absence first. I've been pleasantly surprised at how happy everyone has been though, even the ones I do lots of work for and the ones who don't particularly like/want children!

Guccigirl79 · 01/04/2012 21:04

Have only told our nearest & dearest, have even left out some family members until we have ok from scan.DP's sister is currently brewing her third DC (youngest is around 18 months) & she is a bit precious & very much the apple of MIL eye (which I think is a disgrace when you have multiple children. She treats all of them differently) & she hasn't told us with any of her pregnancies until she was at least 13wks,so that's what we're doing,& DP's brother thinks the idea of babies is the worst thing in the world & wants nothing to do with any of them so needless to say we've not told him yet either!! I told my brother the day after I found out as couldn't keep it from him (we're quite close)

Had a thought today that what if we go for scan on thursday & nothing is there & I've imagined all the symptoms or it's phantom & my body just thinks there's something there. I know this is quite irrational but just couldn't help the thought process! Am I totally abnormal??!!!
I think my mind is doing this because I am becoming increasingly concerned about the whole thing & I'm beginning to freak out!!!!!!!!!!

Emmiedarling · 01/04/2012 21:37

I've pretty much told all my friends. I bloody need the support! Family still in denial that its even happening and brother isnt speaking to me. Oh the joys of it all!

Has anyone broken out the maternity wear yet? or am i still the only one? I feel HUGE. And i haven't even enjoyed any lemon cake. Sigh.

elvislives2012 · 01/04/2012 21:59

We were really worried that the scan would show nothing at all or a problem with baby, so we agreed not to tell anyone til after the scan. I felt difficult lying to parents and siblings so agreed that if they asked we would tell them. They asked! So glad they knew before the scan as extra support was great. Scan was absolutely fine so having so much fun telling people now! Everyone is so excited!

emmiedarling I have! I've got a flabby belly atm with a mahoosive muffin top that I've never had before! It's a relief to wear elasticated trousers!

pinpan · 02/04/2012 06:30

Gucci, I think it's normal to get the fear before the scan - I certainly did. Keep calm and eat cake, you are totally normal!

I only told parents and a couple of close friends early on, on the basis that I'd probably tell them even if it had all gone wrong, so as to have the support. Didn't tell anyone else until after the scan/blood tests came back all cheerful, and even then it took me a few days to work out how to bring up the subject!

Emmie, I've been loving the elasticated glories of maternity jeans for at least two weeks now. I'm not sure I can ever go back. Grin

babybrain3 · 02/04/2012 07:20

We've told most people-were waiting for the scan picture tomorrow before informing the wide world of Facebook-I can't wait!!! GrinGrinGrin

I've been in maternity wear for a few weeks now, and if I wear a dress my bump really stick out. Mum think I'm having twins-I think I'm just a bit podgey!! ConfusedConfused

GizzyBoo · 02/04/2012 07:58

I couldn't help but blab the week before my scan. We did have to go away for 4 days though so it was hard to hide the fact. And we had told the kids who were struggling to keep it a secret Grin
Peoples reactions were lovely.....I was expecting criticism after such a gap from the last 3 but it didn't happen.

1st day of the school holidays today and my internal body clock seems to have forgotten...grrrrr. Wide awake at 7am as per usual. Enjoying having my morning cuppa in peace though.

I don't visibly look any different bump wise but I am short and fat so have plenty of space to hide the button. I do feel it though and my clothes are feeling tight and a little uncomfortable. I think I have a few more weeks before I have to do any shopping though Grin

cakes82 · 02/04/2012 10:19

I had a scan at 7 weeks so my family and bosses have known since then. Then gradually I have told everyone else. So by time of 12w scan majority of people knew.

My clothes are starting to feel tight and I think I am starting to get a bump but where I live there aren't any decent shops so its more difficult to find things. I'm also not sure how best to go about sizing for anything. Any suggestions?

GizzyBoo · 02/04/2012 10:40

ha you are one up on me Cakes.....where I live there are NO shops GrinGrin

I'm watching a couple of bundles of stuff on ebay at present. Hoping a couple of lots of those will see me through Blush

OP posts:
cakes82 · 02/04/2012 10:57

I live in a village. The nearest town is 8 miles away from my house- no clothes shops at all, well unless you count charity shops.
Biggest near towns are about an hour away, never really get chance to go to them or know them well enough to find anything.

I hadn't thought of looking on ebay for clothes lol
How are you choosing sizes?

cakes82 · 02/04/2012 10:59

Gizzy Just looked at your profile can see in that location why you might have a lack of shops :)

GizzyBoo · 02/04/2012 11:15

We have a small co-op and an even smaller general store which also doubles up as the butchers and petrol station.
Tis a 5 hour ferry ride to the mainland Grin

I am just going to buy my normal size I think. Most of the tops have plenty of stretch in them. jeans/trousers might be a bit more tricky but I figure if I buy them cheap on ebay I wont feel so bad if I have to go for something else later on Blush

I hate shopping anyway so ebay is my friend Grin

cakes82 · 02/04/2012 11:21

Do places like Asda, matalan and tesco deliver to you? Have been looking at them but worried about sizes lol

GizzyBoo · 02/04/2012 11:25

Yeah most online places will deliver. Sometimes the delivery is more as we are not mainland UK.
Argos won't deliver which bugs me for the little stuff lol
Getting my pram is gonna be a challenge.

We are back over to Glasgow in May for the 20 week scan so may have to get it then.

Do they offer free returns Cakes?? That way you can order a couple of sizes and go with what feels right. Just send the rest back?

HeyMicky · 02/04/2012 11:52

I made pinpan's lemon cake over the weekend - anyone who hasn't done so yet, go make it immediately. Delicious.

Cakes*, I've use Matalan, Next and Asos online for maternity wear so far - all excellent. Very quick, easy returns and they also size big :)

McPopcornMouseNFries · 02/04/2012 11:59

cakes I ordered some stuff in the Next sale this morning - their fitting guidelines say to choose the size you were before pregnancy, as they've altered the fit and ease to suit pregnancy :)
