Hello ladies, may I join you please? I had my dating scan today, am 12+4 with baby no 4 (due September 20th). Already have 3 DDs. Scan went well, have put the news on facebook, and am now going to dig out my maternity clothes- I didn't want to tempt fate befoee, by my wearable wardrobe is dramatically shrinking!

Ju1es22 · 12/03/2012 18:01

Hello all

Trying to keep up! Just had a good read through the threads.

I've just come back from been away for my wedding anniversary, 3 years yesterday had a lovely time in yorkshire even had a fab massage!

Firstly I wanted to say how sorry I am to hear so many ladies on the old/new threads that didn't have good news, I've been there and know how hard it is. Don't give up hope im nearly 15 weeks pregnant after recurrent losses and for some its just bad luck. I send you all a big hug and wish you all the luck in the future.

Still bricking it ladies, i know im over the major risk stage but i still worry with every ache and stretch! Boobs a massive gone up nearly 2 cup sizes much to hubbies delight, told him he can look but not touch! Cos im high risk see my mw next week and obs week after anybody else under or been under consultant car, don't know what to expect!

Still not got much appetite feel bad really i ve had quite bad sickness which is getting better, I've lost not gained weight and being slightly under weight to start with feeling guilty!

Seems I've got a few dd buddies to winge and moan with doesn't half seem to flying by im due 6/9 with a very active bean, hb was 175 bpm at 10 weeks cant wait to hear it again next week!

Good luck to all those with scans this week September looks to be a busy month for deliveries!

Ponyclubmum · 12/03/2012 18:47

Hi everyone, I'm sorry I haven't posted in ages. Glad I found the new thread!

All's good here, I'm 15 weeks on Wed. Had my scan and NT test a few weeks ago - result was 1 in 450. I was a bit surprised how high it was, I was expecting around 1 in 900 as the guidelines in the booklet the MW gave me say that is normal for a 30 yr old who isn't over weight, doesn't smoke etc. I assume it was something in the blood test that has made it a higher risk. Last time (3 years ago) I was 1 in several thousand and something so that's why I'm surprised. It's still classed as low risk though so I'll go with it.

I've been feeling quite a bit of movement for a few weeks now. A bit earlier than I felt DS (first felt him move at 15 weeks). Got a bit of a bump too, but it might be ice cream! Blush

Hope you're all well and happy. :)

elliemay80 · 12/03/2012 18:55

I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and have quite a noticeable bump. As in not only noticeable to close friends and DH but strangers would think I was pregnant and people's eyes are drawn to the bump! Am quite pleased as I'm freeting that something's wrong (no reason, just the kind of paranoia anyone who's MC'd seems to have...) Can't wait for my next midwife appt in early April. Had fluttery feelings in my tummy a week ago but not since. Have been told that they come and go at this early stage though...

Whatevertheweather · 12/03/2012 18:59

Anyone who needs/wants nice wrap dresses etc for work or formal events Isabella Oliver has got a clearance sake on at the moment. Still not spectacularly cheap but I have just ordered 2 dresses for work and a wedding at £78 each instead of £140 each.

funchum8am · 12/03/2012 21:04

I'm not showing yet but trousers are starting to get tight. I wear a lot of dresses anyway and most of those are fine but will start getting out some wrap style ones now it's a bit warmer and they're needed! I haven't allowed myself to buy anything because I haven't had the 12 week scan yet (Wednesday! so excited!) but after that am off to buy some maternity jeans. May ask work if I can wear leggings if I wear a long smart top over (we are meant to wear business dress but it's a school, hopefully they'll let me, at least a bit later on anyway).

Thinking about how to tell my teaching team: I think I might do something along the lines of "We're overstaffed for the next academic year so I have come up with a very elegant solution...I'll be taking a bit of a leave of absence..." and then say why! Though I'm only planning to take one term off (DH is giving up work to be main carer) so actually the overstaffing issue will still remain when I get back...think I will end up teaching outside my own faculty area for the rest of the year but I don't mind - presumably I'll be in a state anyway from lack of sleep.

Anyone else having a scan on Wednesday? I'm so excited about seeing the little one (hopefully) safe and wriggling about happily.

MissCoffee sorry to hear you're feeling a bit barrel-like - I hope you feel more blooming soon!

Macaroons · 12/03/2012 22:54

Am still suffering from a bad headache. Is paracetamol really ok? I've been resisting myself from having any for the whole day but if it doesn't go away tmr I'll have to give in...

Seem to be getting a cough too.. Bought some honey

Will join in with the shopping chat when I feel better!

oikopolis · 12/03/2012 23:00

Macaroons i sympathise. had a head cold and cough during 2ww and had to just get on with it without all the lovely drugs i'm used to.

what saved me was:

  1. paracetamol
  2. halls menthol/honey-lemon sweeties
  3. humidifier/head over steamy bowl of water
  4. lemon slice and honey in hot water

you poor thing i hope you feel better.

oikopolis · 12/03/2012 23:01

and yes paracetamol really is ok. and you should take some. if nothing else it prevents a fever and you really shouldn't allow a fever to take hold.

Whatevertheweather · 13/03/2012 02:34

Oh my goodness I have the most ferocious back pain - it starts at my left hip and is travelling all down my left leg. Ow ow ow can't sleep. No idea if it's pg related or if I pulled something somehow it just came on early this evening. Tried a warm bath and dp gave it a rub but ow!! Sad

Loopyhasanotherbean · 13/03/2012 08:11

whatevertheweather it might be you just pulled something, but i'd watch out just in case it's the start of spd. i had it when pregnant with DS and had never even heard of it before! i had niggles that i ignored, and then one night we went out for a meal, and i went to get up from the table and i couldn't walk or put any weight on my one leg and the pain was awful. Hopefully it isn't SPD but if it is, then better to know sooner rather than later!

I'm in maternity jeans here too, and with boobs being big all through breastfeeding, i never really stopped wearing maternity tops, so now completely back into my maternity wardrobe! (didn't have money or inclination to buy a load of non-maternity clothes for bigger boobs when i hoped it wouldn't be long before we had our next baby!)

Another one with a cold, i have had either a cold, a cough, or both since i fell pregnant, and getting really fed up now. I am so tired, i can't begin to explain how tired! Have already got the whole waking up at least once in the night to have a wee, plus a snoring DP, plus months now of waking myself up in the night either being unable to breath or coughing. DS is so lively, that i am utterly exhausted but i am incapable of grabbing a nap when DS does, as it takes me so long to fall asleep. Doesn't matter how tired i am, i have never been one of those lucky people who drop off as soon as their head hits the pillow :( I hate not being able to take anything, and there is only so much that vics vapor rub can do.

Macaroons · 13/03/2012 08:38

Oikopolis thanks for the advice. I've been having paracetamol and honey with lemon, bought some sweets too, hope I'll feel better soon! It's a busy period at work so I feel bad for taking time off to rest at home, but with a 38C temperature they can't expect me to go to work right.

whatever hope your pain will go away soon!

Was looking at this pregnant.thebump.com/pregnancy/pregnancy-tools/articles/how-big-is-baby.aspx?MsdVisit=1 it's quite interesting. I'm between 14-15 week now although my tummy got bigger I don think I could hide a lemon / orange in that space!

Macaroons · 13/03/2012 09:49

loopy hope you get better soon too!

Whatevertheweather · 13/03/2012 10:23

Thanks Loopy just looked spd up and followed a link to pelvic girdle pain and have self diagnosed it as that Grin Feels exactly as it describes. Boo! Not round the front at all - is that where yours was? Will have a chat with mw next week at 16wk appt see if there's any exercises/stretches I can do to help.

Hope those suffering with colds feel better soon xx

MadMonkeys · 13/03/2012 13:02

I'm in maternity jeans too. They're quite big on me but better than cutting myself in half with normal ones.

Just looked at DD's dating scan pics to see if nub theory was right that time - but my dates weren't what I thought last time so she was only 10 weeks at the time and the scan picture is just a very blurred jelly baby with no nub to examine!

Its funny what a lot of people said when we told them the news - 'oh you'll be wanting a boy then to complete the set'. Actually, I don't care what it is, I know I'll adore it as soon as it arrives. But I do feel that I might be a bit out of my depth with a boy as I have no brothers and only a daughter so far. But I'm sure I'll get the hang of it if it is a boy.

Got my 16 week appointment booked, so I'm looking forward to hearing the heartbeat if the mw can find it.

Hope those with colds feel better soon. It's better to have them now than nearer the end - hopefully there will be few colds around in the summer so we should all be fighting fit in time for delivery! I put my back out last time at about 32 weeks just by coughing, because your joints get loose in preparation for the birth.

I had to tell a friend about our pregnancy who I know is trying for a baby too - anyone else had that? She was fine about it, but I wish she was pregnant too. Hopefully she will be before long.

york67 · 13/03/2012 13:49

Congrats to everyone with good scan result. Mine is on Thursday and I am starting to stress about it.
Partly as I have miscarried at 12 weeks before. Also risk of downs much higher this time as I am in my early forties. Must be on my minds as last night I had a dream where a child with downs had me in a headlock. Not sure now if I want the tests. Maybe better not to know.
Hopefully will have good news to report on Thursday and good luck to my scan buddy too and those with scans this week.

MadMonkeys · 13/03/2012 14:38

Hope your scan is ok york. We're off to Derbyshire for a few days tomorrow, but I'll still think about you on Thursday.

york67 · 13/03/2012 15:00

Thank you madmonkeys. Hope you have a lovely break.

Thali34 · 13/03/2012 16:10

Sorry for all those with colds! I had one a couple of weeks ago and it was miserable! I was a martyr, and tried not to take any meds, but in the end did resort to paracetamol once or twice - it really is OK. I had lots of hot honey and lemon, and hot ribena. Steam didn't really work for me, but used olbas oil on a tissue by my pillow once when I got desperate.

Thanks so much for all the maternity clothes advice - so many great tips! :)
Have had a look and treated myself to the odd item. Have also found a good selection on Dorothy Perkins and New Look.

Fingers crossed for all the scans this week.

Loup23 · 13/03/2012 16:12

Good luck for Thursday york and all others having scans this week, hope they are all good.

I had my 15/16 week MW appoint yesterday and got to hear the heartbeat at 150bpm - very reassuring!

Thanks for the advice macaroons re the IO sale, unfortunately they seem to have sold out of a lot of the sale items already Angry off to ebay I go!

madmonkeys I told a good friend of mine I was pg quite early on as she has been trying a while and we normally chat about it monthly! She has just had her frist round IVF and I'm so hoping she will be pg soon too so we can share the experience together - I honestly think though that good friends will be happy for you (just possibly slightly envious!).

Been driving myself mad with the "nub" theory and this is from someone who apparently isn't going to find out at the 20 week scan....! I find it hard to determine whether there's a nub or a leg so have got no idea!

Dunnitt · 13/03/2012 16:26

Hello everyone - I've found you all at last. I'm due end September / very early October. Don't know the exact date as haven't wanted to be given a date until further down the line as I have a history of MC.

So this is my 4th pregnancy (no children yet) and I'm with a private clinic who are giving me losts of intervention. So far so good. Last scan was at 10wks (1.5 wks ago) and my 12wk is this Friday. Even though the 10wk went well I am still terrified and am obsessing about the nausea coming and going!

Anyway. I hope to be back on Friday with good news wtih the aim of becoming a long term fixture on this thread!

Ponyclubmum · 13/03/2012 17:00

Has anyone tried the baking soda gender test? You put a teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda in a cup, then add a bit of your wee. If it fizzes then you are having a boy, if not then it's a girl. I tried it the other night and got no fizz - I had been wondering if this baby might be a girl because I feel so different to last time (much more nauseous, headaches everyday, etc), so maybe it is?! It is apparently to do with having more acidic urine if you're carrying a boy. I'm sure it's just another myth, but still fun to speculate!

Ponyclubmum · 13/03/2012 17:01

Oh and hi Dunnitt! Welcome, and the best of luck for this Friday.

oikopolis · 13/03/2012 17:35

Macaroons def keep up with the recommended paracetamol dose if you're running a temp of 38. Am not in UK, but when i was ill, i rang the NHS Direct-type line we have here, and the nurse said in no uncertain terms that since i suspected i was pregnant, i was to go directly to A&E if my temperature went over 38 and paracetamol didn't bring it back down.

When I said I had no fever she even asked me if I knew that for sure, did I have a thermometer etc. and a fever was dangerous in pregnancy so i ought to take my temp throughout the day.

so definitely something to watch. and do not feel bad about taking time off! if you're feverish, you can do a lot of damage to yourself by not resting, even if you're not pg. really hoping you feel better. x

Smallgreenone · 13/03/2012 18:52

Hi Dunnit and good luck for Friday.
I'm going to try the test ponyclubmum!!

I agree Loup I think really good friends will be happy for you whatever the circumstances. I found out about a friend being pregnant shortly after I had a miscarriage and I was thrilled for her even though I was devastated about my own loss.
I'm 13 weeks now and still feeling as tired as ever, I'm wondering when my energy is going to return?!
