Hoping to carry on the brilliant thread started by misscoffeenwine which was so popular we got to 1000 posts before starting another - come over and join me...... Promise to think of a more original name for Part 3!

Forgive the typos... I really struggle with typing on the ipad, so there will be reams. Meant to say below that i am not announcing the news to all and sundry at work yet

We havent started acquiring many baby things yet thugh we have started making lists.... Also lists of names! The hardest thing for us is going to be the surname. I didnt take my husband's since i am professionally v glued to the name on my publications, but i would like wombat to have both our names. Problem is our names are ghastly when hyphenated. But we will keep plotting! Anybody else trying to juggle the surname issue? I dont have any friends who changed their name on marriage - we all kept ours, largely because that is the trend in our job sector - and hyphenating seems to be the way to go usually if a little one appears.....

Hello,

Well we had our second scan yesterday and all was fine! Stomach was the right size and apparantly the placenta was fine too so I don't have to go back at 32 weeks. Not quite sure how it can have changed in 4 days, but never mind! Baby was head up this time whereas he was head down before.

MadMonkeys and WinterMymble, I have an anterior placenta too. I've been feeling movements since 17/18 weeks but I never felt any of the fluttering feelings people describe, for me it was just taps which have got stronger. Maybe the location of the placenta is why. It might be a good thing further on, to have a cushion to soften the baby's kicks!

WinterMymble · 02/05/2012 15:15

Grin - good point Orchid - us anterior lot may be grateful later if it means we are spared some of the late-night kicked-awake experiences :)

elliemay80 · 02/05/2012 16:53

argh!! so annoyed! have had my fourth (or maybe even fifth) recall for a repeat urine test from the hospital due to a 'mixed growth'. After the last one, I was so hacked off with them I just did a urine test at my GP surgery which came back fine. Has anyone else had this?

I don't want to be negligent as I know urine infections are bad news for baby but the hospital is an hour away and I have been back so many times only to get a letter (3 weeks later- this has been going on since booking in appt- 22 weeks now)

I have no symptoms of an infection. I have 24 week appt on 14th. Would others wait til then or take a two hour round trip to wee in a pot for the sixth time?

Good news on scan MediumOrchid!

shellybop · 02/05/2012 17:51

hello all! can i join you? i'm due on 16 sept and had my 20 week scan today - all good and found out i have a blue flavoured bun in the oven! was so lovely to see him wriggling around and waving his arms at us....

I too have an anterior placenta, so haven't felt a huge amount of movement yet, although getting some 'pressure' type feelings in different areas occasionally which i guess is baby shifting around.

WinterMymble - i haven't taken my husbands surname either - for the same reasons as you, but now not sure whether to just change it, so that we can all be the same surname. Difficult decision though. I really like my own surname!!

leelteloo · 02/05/2012 19:37

Team blue here too Grin. Everything normal, very relieved and happy.

shoeprincess2 · 02/05/2012 19:43

It's only by being on this thread that I found out about the position of the placenta affecting how strongly you feel baby's movements. I found out that mine is posterior, so there is no attachment to my old c section scar (hurrah). However, it would explain why I am being kept awake at night by strong-ish movements. I'm wondering how strong they will be in another 10 weeks...

Macaroons · 03/05/2012 08:41

Yay for more good scan result!

I didnt changed my surname when I got married, think I'll probably just keep my surname (it just feels abit strange to change it given this is what i have been known as in the past 30 yrs) while the baby will just take hubby's surname.

For some strange reason im feeling very tired these days, looking forward to long weekend!

Have been feeling stronger baby movement, my hubby felt it too! Grin

ladygagoo · 03/05/2012 08:52

Hello to all the newcomers and yay for more good scan results

At my scan I was told my placenta was at the top, which probably explains why I have been feeling movements for a few weeks, DP is dead chuffed he has felt some too now. We both got walloped last night which was quite funny.

I have surname ishoos too as DP and I aren't married and DSS lives with us so at the moment its two against one (except the cat has my surname:) ). I was reasonably happy for the bump to take DP's name but I'm still not sure. I hate the idea that when travelling, for example, I might have to prove the bump is mine IYSWIM. However we have talked about getting married before September - sort of just legally (and secretly), without a wedding to sort all these issues out and also for wills etc. So it may be that this is resolved anyway.

Like you Macaroons I am feeling cream-crackered and also back-achey most of the time. I thought I was supposed to feel better at this stage - no such luck.

Good luck for anyone having scans the rest of the week - FX

Rusulka · 03/05/2012 10:21

Ladygagoo when we got married it was for legal security as much as anything else, we had a sort of glorified register office do- the register office near us is an old tudor manor house, and you can choose from different ceremonies, depending on how many people you want there- we had a room that would accommodate 30, but we only had 10 guests. It was a lovely venue with lots of choice, and not religious at all, which is what we wanted. We chose our own music to play throughout, which included computer game themes, anime soundtracks, Shakira and Frank Zappa- it really was perfect. I recommend looking into it.
Pull your finger out though, you need to make sure they're free, book the room and celebrant, and get your notices of intent to marry out a certain amount of time before you can do the deed!

I still have no bump unless I lie down, although like I've said before, I already had a tummy. Peanut has been moving around fairly regularly, mostly at night once I've gone to bed, but sometimes during day when I've gone a while without eating- "oi MUM! I'm starving!!!" kick kick kick...

Did have a fright the other day after unsuccessfully trying to squirt expanding foam in a hole in a confined space, only to realise I'd been squirting noxious gas everywhere and breathing it in... Shock
Removed myself to fresh air immediately, but was really upset when Peanut didn't move much that night. Fortunately she seems to be fine now, and after speaking to my dad (who knows this stuff) he says I'm being ridiculous. Which for once, makes me feel better!
Still going to be on edge when she's born, just in case.

Visiting my parents this weekend and doing the gender reveal, after which we'll make it reasonably common knowledge- friends and family- don't want any barbie-pink outfits flying my way! Anyone who's ever met me knows exactly what I'm like and would be sensible- everyone that is, except MiL, who seems to nod in agreement, then do whatever the bloody hell she wants anyway- but people who don't know me at all will be getting frilly, girly, pink, lacy.... ARGH!!! It just doesn't bear thinking about. Wish I lived in Germany, where they seem to just dress girls in red...

funchum8am · 03/05/2012 15:02

Yay our scan was fine, baby was moving around happily and all four limbs and all organs present and correct. I have to go back for another scan at 36 weeks as the placenta was partly covering the cervix, and if it doesn't move apparently that could make a vaginal birth tricky, but the monographer felt ti would most likely move. So we get an extra sneaky peek at the baby not long before the birth as well. And we're still team surprise - I got no clue whatever as to gender from the scan.

Good luck with wedding plans those who are making them!

Sorry to hear some of you are feeling poorly/tired etc...I still have only a small bump and no obvious symptoms but the scan has proved I'm not imagining it!

MissCoffeeNWine · 03/05/2012 17:14

We walked past the register office and into the solicitors office and I got myself much better protected legally there so I'm happy about all that. We are still in the middle of the name argument though. I think the baby should have my name. He thinks his. Neither of us wants to double barrel. We've already been through this argument, it is very annoying.

Small bump developing here and lots of kicking, I'm another with a posterior placenta so I get battered. Easily visible kicks even through clothes. Tomorrow is the 20 week scan, at 21+4. Very scared.

funchum8am · 03/05/2012 17:33

Good luck for tomorrow misscoffee. I was nervous today, though with less past history to give me good reason for that, so I have an inkling of how you feel. Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

I forgot to say earlier that my placenta is partially covering the cervix (so "placenta a bit praevia"?) so I get to go back for another scan at 36 weeks to check it has moved. If not apparently vaginal birth could be "a bit tricky" as the monographer put it, but no biggie for me either way. She seemed confident it would move as it was only partially covering the cervix, but we'll see. Am not going to worry!

Good luck to everyone else still awaiting scans...

funchum8am · 03/05/2012 17:33

oops, I meant sonographer not monographer - I wasn't being scanned by an author of short treatises...

NightmareWalking · 03/05/2012 19:32

We had our scan today and are firmly in team surprise thanks to buggerlugs being an awkward sod again! so the name arguments continue apace Grin Everything else fine & normal, I need to see the consultant again in 8 weeks thanks to me disability but she doesn't see why I shouldn't be signed off to midwife care at some point :)

ladygagoo · 04/05/2012 16:32

Hope the scan went ok today Misscoffee, have been thinking of you.
Good news about yours Nightmare and Funchum welcome to team surprise.

Is anyone else feeling massive already? I keep getting MIL and DM saying how huge I am (have put on 11 pounds now at 21w) It is starting to get on my nerves but it is partly true, had to go and get some more maternity tops today and a cosy mens' hoody as I can't do the normal ones up anymore Confused

Thanks for the marriage advice Rusulka -we have looked into it and hopefully it won't be too difficult to organise. We only want my DM and the PILs there - the idea is not to really tell anyone else and then do a 'proper' churchy wedding thing when we have the time/less of a bump and some money.

Happy bank holiday weekend everyone xx

MrsHelsBels74 · 04/05/2012 20:31

I've hit 20 weeks today, hoping the second half is easier going than the first. Had a shock today though, was walking to nursery & suddenly got an awful stitch like pain in my abdomen, never felt anything like it before! Did some research & it's all ligament pain but it did give me a shock!
Also suffering from back ache & feeling enormous!

WinterMymble · 04/05/2012 22:00

MissCoffee i hope your scan went well. They can be really nervewracking... I hope you found your bean is cheerfully ensconsed.

MrsHelsBels I know what you mean! The stabbing stitch thing... I hadnt even heard of ligament pain. The midwife had to explain it to me a few days ago. I guess it makes sense that stretching has some consequences, but I found the pain quite alarming until she explained.

WinterMymble · 04/05/2012 22:02

funchum you made me giggle... I think being scanned by an author of short treatises would be a diverting break from the usual medical interventions :)

funchum8am · 05/05/2012 15:56

Well how interesting they were would depend what type of treatises they wrote but it would certainly make a change!

misscoffee I hope your scan brought some reassurance.

Am not looking forward to ligament pain!

Had a VERY frustrating morning looking for maternity clothes and have realised that they're all HORRIBLE, at least the ones they bother to stock in store anyway. Online it is for me from now on. At least I managed to get some bump bands, which is what I really wanted so I can get some more wear out of my existing work clothes. I nearly started crying in the shopping centre as I just couldn't find anything I would even consider buying - that is my first really hormonal moment for AGES! Let's hope that is a one-off, I need my wits about me at work for another week before pupils go on study leave!

Whatevertheweather · 05/05/2012 17:53

Funchum I agree most maternity clothes are dire! I'm sooo tempted just to buy some from Isabella Oliver but they are so expensive. I did buy one top in the last sale and it's lovely, great colour, fit and material and gives me proper bump shape.

I went to see my consultant last week and she is happy with everything so far. She has put me on fortnightly scans from now on. I was quite surprised as thought it would be monthly until nearer the end but will take all the extra reassurance I can Smile Plan is still elcs at 37 weeks if I can make it that far without imploding with anxiety. Thought it would get easier once I started feeling regular movements but actually I can't stop obsessing about when I last felt her move.

Hope your scan went well MissCoffee

mrsmaccas · 05/05/2012 18:37

We had our 20 week scan a couple of weeks back. Decided to not find out the baby's gender but we have two names decided which everyone in the family seem happy with. At first I was sure it was a boy but now I'm not sure.

Baby was doing fine according to all the scans so that was a relief. They found I have 12x9cm fundal fibroid. I've never had any symptoms prior to pregnancy and it certainly didn't effect conception, so it seems that it has really grown due to oestrogen. Went to see the Consultant earlier this week and seems there a slightly increased risk of premature labour and I'll be given some drugs to shrink my uterus post birth (to stem bleeding I think). If it causes me any pain then they might make me spend some time in hospital to give me antibiotics. Moved from purely midwife led care to shared care so will be back at hosp at 28 weeks and maybe have another scan, depending on the growth of the baby. Has anyone else got fibroids or any experience of pregnancy with fibroids?

Otherwise the kicks seem to have intensified this week. Sometimes my DH can feel them, sometimes not. Feeling them in the back quite a lot today, sort of in my bum (probably TMI!) :-)

rightontime · 05/05/2012 18:55

Whatever Have you seen the count the kicks thread in pregnancy. The website it links to sells bracelets that have numbers on and you move the tab every time you feel the baby kick and so can see that it is indeed moving regularly. Might help to bring a little extra reassurance. (((hugs))) for you. It is so stressful.

Whatevertheweather · 05/05/2012 19:01

Thank you rightontime have ordered one Smile Have got an iPhone app too Blush Poor baby isn't allowed to sleep, I keep prodding her and bouncing up and down! How are you feeling now? x

leelteloo · 06/05/2012 06:38

Back to getting up 5 times a night to pee, yawn, good practice I suppose but exhausting as dd gets up at 5.30, yawn
